Not all PKGBUILDS use makepkg.conf

When bulding some packages (smplayer-svn, arora-git, qtscriptgenerator-git, qmpdclient - that's what i notticed) makepkg.conf doesn't influence.
For example for smplayer-svn I have:
g++ -c -m64 -pipe -march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -Wall -W -D_REENTRANT -DDOWNLOAD_SUBS -DDATA_PATH=\"/usr/share/smplayer\" -DDOC_PATH=\"/usr/share/doc/packages/smplayer\" -DTRANSLATION_PATH=\"/usr/share/smplayer/translations\" -DTHEMES_PATH=\"/usr/share/smplayer/themes\" -DSHORTCUTS_PATH=\"/usr/share/smplayer/shortcuts\" -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_XML_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_NETWORK_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/share/qt/mkspecs/linux-g++-64 -I. -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtNetwork -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtXml -I/usr/include -Ifindsubtitles -Ivideopreview -Impcgui -Ifindsubtitles/filedownloader -Ifindsubtitles/quazip -I.moc -I.ui -o .obj/prefinterface.o prefinterface.cpp
while in makepgs.conf:
me$ cat /etc/makepkg.conf | grep -A 1 CFLAGS
CFLAGS="-march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-march=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe"
where is the trick? Arch x86_64 with testing repo enabled.
P.S. maybe I'm wrong but they all use qmake for makefiles generation.

AUR pks mainteners often disables some makeflags to maintain compatibility look for options=('!makeflags') line - "!" sign before makeflags disables user-set makepkg.conf makeflags.

  • Setting build folder using ~/.makepkg.conf

    Until recently, I manually downloaded source tarballs from the AUR or copied folders out of my abs tree into my ~/build directory. I recently switched to packer and pacbuilder and these tools by default build in their temporary directories. However, I can't seem to configure them to my liking. The problem is I do not want the src directories to be deleted every time because I build a few devel packages from git and svn and downloading those whole everytime you update them would be a PITA on my connection. It would kinda beat the purpose as well. Right now I have
    BUILDDIR="/home/$USER/build/temp"
    SRCDEST="/home/$USER/build/sources"
    With that setup however, devel packages lose their repositories every time.
    Edit: Wait, I think my setup actually works as intended. Please don't investigate this.
    2nd edit: I think what confused me is that pacbuilder enforces the usage of /tmp if I understand /usr/bin/pacbuilder correctly. Can someone confirm this?

  • Makepkg.conf: Stripping /usr/local Docs Out Of Builds?

    Trying to strip out '/usr/local/gtk-doc/html' out of builds without resorting to 'without-html-dir'. Tried the following individually within makepkg.conf with no effect:
    OPTIONS=(!docs)
    DOC_DIRS=({usr{,/local}{,/share},opt/*}/{doc,gtk-doc}
    DOC_DIRS=({usr{,/local}{,/share},opt/*}/{doc,gtk-doc{,/html}}
    DOC_DIRS=(usr/{,local/}{,share/}{doc,gtk-doc} opt/*/{doc,gtk-doc})
    DOC_DIRS=(usr/{,local/}{,share/}{doc,gtk-doc{,/html}} opt/*/{doc,gtk-doc{,/html}})
    All fo the above appear to echo properly. No options=() within any PKGBUILD files I am testing. How to strip '/usr/local/gtk-doc/html'  out of builds using makepkg.conf (would rather not add an 'rm' statement to each and every PKGBUILD)?

  • Using makepkg to cross-compile (for sparc64)

    I recently acquired a Sun Ultra 5 system with a TI UltraSparc IIi CPU (sparc64).  I am in the middle of doing some compiling on it using Debian as the host system while dabbling into cross-compiling for it.  It would be superb to have a sparc64 toolchain installed and in the $PATH on a modern x86_64 system while using makepkg to cross-compile sparc64 packages.  I would copy /etc/makepkg.conf to a working directory, make the necessary changes, and run makepkg --config /working/dir/makepkg.conf.  makepkg would then (theoretically) pick up that I'm cross compiling, see the proper toolchain in the path, and cross compile.
    Is this possible?  If not, what kind of work/patching would be necessary to make it happen?

    cedeel wrote:A Sparc64 chroot isn't possible. The closest thing would be to run a chroot-like environment in QEMU.
    A cross toolchain should be preferred, although I have no idea on how to set it up.
    Yeah.  I'm building a toolchain atm.  As long as the PKGBUILDs know that I'm cross compiling, I should be okay.  There will be a bit of hand-cranking needed since not all sources use autotools.  Not really looking forward to cross-compiling openssl, and the kernel will take a bit of screwing around to work right, but, meh, that's part of the fun, right?  There's only 100-ish packages for a base install, so just getting to a functional system won't be too bad.
    I'm going to experiment with an auto-build system when I have the system running.  I'm very comfortable with bash scripting and am learning c++, so I have some good ideas.  I work as a sysadmin too, so I could even give some of the meatier servers at work an extra job to do.  That is, if all goes well

  • Building package using makepkg does not resolve dependency for another

    I am trying to install yaourt from the AUR. Yaourt required that package-query be installed, and this package further required another, etc.
    In short, package-query required yajl, which I downloaded from the AUR. This package does not actually have a PKGBUILD, but rather un-tars into a file that you need to merge with /usr. After doing so I tried to make the package-query package but was still met with a dependency discrepancy. Luckily, yajl was available in the official repositories (same version). After using pacman to install it everything went fine and package-query built and installed fine.
    When I went to build yaourt, using makepkg, it failed and informed that I was missing a dependency, package-query.
    So, in short, is there a registry or something that keeps track of these installed packages? I imagine that when running makepkg there is a query against installed packages to see if you meet the dependency requirements. What can I do to build yaourt in this situation?
    Last edited by sherrellbc (2014-06-08 18:37:19)

    cower doesn't have any dependencies that are not in the official repositories.  It doesn't build packages automatically, but it will download the source tarballs and unpack them for you.  It can also handle dependencies with the official repos and the AUR.
    So for example, if you were to do cower -dd yaourt it would tell you that gettext, diffutils, and pacman are in the official repos.  Then it would download the source tarball for package-query and resolve all of its dependencies.  And it would download the yauort source tarball and unpack that for you.  So it gives you an idea of what depends on what and in which order you should build and install.
    But you really just shouldn't use yaourt.  Many of the upgrade issues that arise on these forums stem from people using yaourt (particularly those who blindly run yaourt -Syua).  The pacaur I mentioned above is a bash script that wraps cower.  So it too should be able to be built and installed without having to resolve other AUR dependencies.
    Edit:
    But none of this is really answering the question though. When I make a package from the AUR, the dependency requirement when trying to install another package is never met. That is, if package A requires B and I then installed B (from the AUR), when I try to make A again it still informs me that B was never installed.
    If this is the case, then you really don't know how to properly use the AUR, and thus should be reading up on that rather than trying to work around it with an AUR helper.

    Hey Eric,
    Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
    Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

    Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
    Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
    If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
    Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

    We have a 10 person office - all either use Acrobat XI or Reader XI.  One person is on Windows 7.  The rest are on Windows 8 (not 8.1).  I say this because I thought it was a Windows 8 issue, but having the same problems on the Windows 7 machine. We are all having problems opening pdf's sent to us from other firms. This has increased in frequency over the past two months. We've checked with the various firms, and their other clients are not having problems. Some pdfs open but with a lot of missing content and strange formatting, others won't open at all.  There are different error messaged depending upon the doc.  Some are regarding the fonts, for example "can't extract the embedded font...."  Others are "insufficient data" errors.  There are more, but for purposes of keeping this short, I won't include them.  Another unrelated issue is that we are having trouble printing excel files to pdf.  The files end up with bad formatting.  I've worked with adobe "chat" support, our IT consultants with no resolution.  I also haven't found any similar "known issue" online  Would very much appreciate any assistance.  Thank you

    The font embedding can be a problem if not done and you are trying to view the PDF and do not have the font on your machine. Acrobat will often try to find a replacement, but it is not always a good choice. Sometimes the "Use Local Fonts" button can be changed in state to resolve some of the viewing issues.
    If you are trying to copy or export info, then it is important that you have the fonts on your system. Otherwise, the message you are getting about embedded fonts would not be showing up.
    As for Excel formatting, be sure that the Adobe PDF printer is selected in the printer screen before you look for the paging and formatting of the file. In most OFFICE programs, if you change the printer the application will reflow the document to best match the printer (called "using printer metrics"). So check before you create the PDF that the layout is correct.

    The iPod's firmware is corrupt. You'll need to restore it again in iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in recovery mode for iTunes to recognize the device. Use the instructions in this Apple support document to walk you through the process of placing the iPod Touch into recovery mode.
