Novell.Zenworks.Registration.DEVICE_NAME_CHANGED

We had a problem with one workstation, where "something happened" and the user could no longer get past Zenworks Agent login window during login. The technician re-installed agent on workstation and this caused duplicate devices to appear in the zone, one named HOSTNAME and one HOSTNAME-GUID. Not a very big surprise there, such thing has happened before. Both devices were deleted from ZCC and we expected one new device to appear with name HOSTNAME, but it appeared with name HOSTNAME-GUID. Multiple attempts of deleting this device and re-registering with 'zac reg -g' have been made, and each time the device appears in ZCC with its new correct GUID appended to the hostname. In services-messages.log on the primary server, the following is seen:
Code:
Sep 15 13:36:32 thor [2838]: WARN: [09/15/2014 13:36:32.662] Registration Web Service Novell.Zenworks.Registration.DEVICE_NAME_CHANGED Device name already existed, changed to hostname-11c6b303036e09408f6c2aca017a7a40 while attempting to register host : HOSTNAME.
It seems that the old device still exists somewhere in Zenworks database, but I can't figure out how to find it. I've tried from ZCC to perform advanced search by, for example, device serial number or MAC address, and I find only the new device named HOSTNAME-GUID. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Both the managed device and primary server are running ZCM 11.3. Workstation is Windows 7 SP1 x64, server is SLES11 SP3 x86_64.

Even though the "phantom" device didn't turn up in search, it was there when I looked through the list of all devices in folder. As myself I couldn't delete it, even though I have given myself all the device rights. But when I logged in as Administrator I could successfully delete the device and all is good.

  • Moving from Novell Zenworks to Windows Server 2008 domain

I am trying to find ways to automate the process of moving between a Novell Zenworks environment to a server 2008 domain. The first problem to my understanding is changing the names of the machines to legal values in our Windows XP Pro Clients. They are currently mostly named, cata_rm#_computer# (where # is a defined value set manually). To my understanding underscore _ is an invalid character for joining a domain so we want to have an automated script that can easily be deployed over the network to basically replace all "_"with "-". Is this necessary or can this issue be handled easier ****her down the road on moving to a windows domain?
We would then like to be able to deliver a payload via zenworks that will cause all of Novell and Zenworks to be removed from the computer and once that is complete add the computer to the new windows domain. Ideally the payload could be easily run from a network share or flash drive as well. Unattended installers may be available for this software suite but we would want to combine the uninstall process with adding the domain so we can move from our poor zenworks domain to a windows domain without ever touching most of our machines.
This is not my project but I am interested in learning how this process could be completed as painlessly as possible hopefully learning something along the way. Anything from links to guides on where to get started looking to more developed solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

None the less the beginning of my problem, removing Novell is a Novell issue. Thankfully I have figured out most of the removal of novell and zenworks already, now just working on fixing the client names and joining the windows AD domain.

  • Version missmatch of Novell.Zenworks.MDStatus.dll

    Hallo together,
I downloaded the ZCM 10.3.3 patch "ZCM 10.3.3 combined patch for 'Cosmetic' error message when deploying bundles after 10.3.3 updated - see TID 7008298 and zac sts fix - see TID 7008374" (TID 5103230).
When updating according to the Method 3 or Method 4 of the TID (replacing the DLL on the destination machine) I get version 10.3.3.5691 for the file Novell.Zenworks.MDStatus.dll
But when REinstalling the whole Agent after applying Method 2 (or Method 1) to the Installation package I get version 10.3.3.9926 for the file Novell.Zenworks.MDStatus.dll
Is that only a cosmetic issue? A binary file compare of the 2 versions shows several differing sections between the 2 files on 2 different PCs.
I would assume that the singular Novell.Zenworks.MDStatus.dll within the package should have the higher version!
    Thanks to you - Klaus

    BachmannK,
I'd like to thank you for this information: the DLL that engineering
supplied as a separate file was indeed the older version, not the same
as the version in the MSI. I have updated the patch, and emailed
everyone (which includes you) who downloaded it. I will be speaking to
the engineering manager on Monday to try to find out how this
    happened...

  • Object of type Novell.Zenworks.ActionManager.ActionResult cannot beserialized{}

    What the heck does
Object of type Novell.Zenworks.ActionManager.ActionResult cannot be
    serialized{}
    mean?
Seems like app deploy of ZESM 3.5 client is not reporting status to ZCM
10.1. ZESM client tries to deploy over and over and over and over. Ended
up having to set bundle requirements so it checks to see if c:\program
    files\novell\zenworks security client\stengine.exe exists so it won't
install if it's already there. I don't really like this workaround.
It seems as though, partway thru the ZESM client install, the workstation
looses its connection to the network (I see the systray icon indicating
it's broadcasting for a dhcp address.). During this time, Adaptive Agent
cannot send updates to the zcm server. Eventually the workstation
reboots (even though I've specified in the bundle AND in the ZESM msi not
to reboot). When it comes up, ZESM client is installed, but Adaptive
Agent does not think so, and tries to install again. The occurs for
eternity, until I reimage the workstation, or go into safe mode and
disable services, etc... Which sure ain't cool.
Bundle is set to install MSI once per device. Runs as logged in user.
    Run at user login.
Thanks in advance for any clues

    >The reason I am asking a second time is I suspect you know the answer,
    >but just ignored the question.
I wasn't actually for sure if I did know what it meant. Sorry I was not
    more open about that.
My understanding of serialization is simply a method to which move
objects, either to a file (stream) or to another object or system.
    >What does this error mean. I am getting
    >it when ( I think) I am just trying to deploy a simple windows
    >application bundle in ZCM10.1.1. i.e. I am attempting to launch a
    >windows executable. I say I think so, because the error does not
    >indicate which package/bundle generated the error.
    >
There might not be anything wrong with the bundle or package now that I
think about it. Of course we don't want the error message, but in general
there might not be anything wrong other than this specific situation.
    >So the action manager goes through and one by one attempts to perform
    >the appropriate action (in my case launch) for each object for which a
    >user/device is assigned ? and if any one of those objects in this
    >(serial) string of events fails, then this error is generated ?
    >
    >I am wondering of some of these are as simple as, the user logs out,
    >before the action manager finishes its list. ?
I am wondering if the bundle is deploying the ZESM client and wants to
send back a message to the ZCM server about the launch status or
distribution status. This could be done, I don't know for sure as I am not
a developer for ZCM, but this could be done with serialization. So the
bundle is sending a status message back to ZCC, but the ZESM client
install is killing the network connection at the exact time this is
happening which is generating the serialization error.
We might need to do more testing before we can find a fix for this.
Are you saying that other simple bundles do not have this issue? Example:
A bundle that launches calc.exe does not have an issue?

  • Novell Zenworks Application Window is empty

The ZENworks "Application Window" on my Windows XP SP3 desktop computer is empty. Only the "[All]" node is displayed. In other words, there are no Novell-delivered Applications showing up in the "Application Window". So I cannot see the list of the applications that I could manually deliver to my computer. The strange thing is that IT support is able to deliver ZEN applications and patches to my desktop. They are also able to wake up my computer or establish remore desktop connection to my computer via ConsoleOne or other means.
Also when I click the Application Window's menu bar items (File, Edit, View, Help), they have no options available under them.
Furthermore, when I go to the "Application Explorer Properties" and click on the "More" button in order to go to "More About Application Launcher" box, the "Login Information" subwindow is empty while the "File Information" subwindow is full; that is, it has the File Names and their Versions displayed in it.
    The Zenworks's version is 7.0.1.x.
Please help me resolve this issue.
    Thank you.

Thanks, Shaun for your response. I'm new to this forum, so I don't know what "TID 3546801" means.

Devices DO automatically register, but they are missing the "Location:" information in ZCC on the device's Summary page.

We are using custom agent installs, Registration Keys, and are specifying a Location in the Registration Keys. We used the ZCM Migration Tool to bring in our WS Objects from Zen7. The devices are on Zen7, and are being upgraded and brought into ZCM.
Anyone have any suggestions that I can try?

    THEN System setting error again.
I am able to ping the server using it's dns name.
not sure where to go from here any help would be appreciated.

Start with a ZDC report on all of your Servers.
The ZDC Tool can be found on Patchfinder with the other patches.
This can help identify issues such as missing or incorrect files.

  • Zenworks 7 Linux Management Device Registration Issue

    All,
Below is a detailed description of a resistration issue using Zenworks
    Linux Management 7.
    Hardware Configuration:
1- DSL Modem (Westell Model 2200)
1- DI 614+ 2.4 GHz Broadband Wireless Router (includes 4-5 ethernet
ports) with a IP address of 192.168.0.1
1- PC Server running Redhat SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (has a static
IP address of 192.168.0.103). This machine is running the Zenworks 7
Linux Management Software and is able to sucessfully launch the Zenworks
    7 Control Panel.
1- Redhat Linux Enterprise Server 3 on a completely different network
with a static IP address (207.44.142.56). This machine is running the
Zenworks Linux Management Agent install using the ./zlm-install -a
    command.
    Network Configuration:
The broadband DSL modem is connected directly to the WAN ethernet port on
    the wireless router
The primary PC server running Redhat SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 has a
direct connection to one of the ethernet ports on the wireless broadboard
router with a private static IP address of 192.168.0.103 and has a public
    IP of 70.22.107.168.
The DSL modem is has a direct connection to the telephone line.
The Redhat Linux Enterprise Server 3 is on a completely different network
    with a IP of 207.44.142.56.
No firewalls are configured on the primary server and the wireless router
Port Forwarders are configured on the broadband wireless router as
    follows:
    zlm1
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 80/80
    always
    zlm2
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 443/443
    always
    zlm3
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 524/524
    always
    zlm4
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 1299/1299
    always
    zlm5
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 2544/2544
    always
    zlm6
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 5506/5506
    always
    zlm7
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 10389/10389
    always
    zlm8
    192.168.0.103
    TCP 10636/10636
    always
    Goal:
To successfully register the Redhat Linux Enterprise 3 server (i.e. the
managed device with IP 207.44.142.56) with the primary server
(192.168.0.103 SUSE Redhat Enterprise Server 9 machine) so it can be
viewed and managed from the Zenworks 7 Control panel.
    Nature of Problem:
When attempting to register the managed device (207.44.142.56) with the
primary server (192.168.0.103) which resides inside of my Wireless Local
Area Network (WLAN) via the following command, it appears to fail. I'm
unable to view or configure this managed device inside of the Zenworks 7
Linux Management Control Panel. The following are 2 manual approaches
that I take to register the managed device and the results for each.
    Register using private IP approach:
    /opt/novell/zenworks/bin/rug sa https://192.168.0.103
Results: ERROR: Could not add 'https://192.168.0.103': Download failed:
    (https://192.168.0.103/zenworks-registration/service.xml) Error:
    ConnectFailure
    Register using public IP approach:
    /opt/novell/zenworks/bin/rug sa https://70.22.107.168
Results: ERROR: Could not add 'https://70.22.107.168': Download failed:
    (https://70.22.107.168/zenworks-registration/service.xml) Error:
    ConnectFailure

duplicate question - can I gently mention a point? Whilst we naturally
understand that you may need information/help in a hurry, asking the
same question in multiple forums dilutes the answers you get, and makes
more work for those of us who have to read them; it would help if you
    could avoid this in future.
    Many thanks
