NSService for Java App

Hello,
I have one Java app name "hill-resort", which registers for a service(NSService) on start. I have written JNI code to receive service request in my running java app. and in my app Info.plist, I have created Service entries. I am passing the file/folder name from mac context menu to my java app using JNI, till now it was working fine, but suddenly it has started giving error like:
2014-07-19 18:52:56.807 hill-resort[2050:507] Failed to obtain a valid sandbox extension for item: [789514] of flavor: [public.file-url] from the pasteboard.
2014-07-19 18:52:56.808 hill-resort[2050:507] Failed to get a sandbox extensions for itemIdentifier (789514).  The data for the sandbox extension was NULL
And it is taking 3 to 10 seconds to get a call in java from the service, earlier it was instantaneous.
I have google around to find out how to fix it, but haven't find a workable solution for Java app.
Please help, how to fix it!

The same sysops cover all the BM forums, therefore it doesn't matter.

Is the exception you made STATEFUL? If it's not stateful the return
packets will be dropped.

  • Sql_trace does not work for Java app using Oracle JDBC thin driver

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle 8.1.7. I enabled sql trace at instance level by setting sql_trace and timed_statistics to true in init.ora. I restarted the db instance. I wrote a stand-alone java application which used Oracle JDBC thin driver(classes12.zip) to make a connection to my db instance, do some select statements, and close the connection. There were no trace files generated in the folder specified by udump_dest variable. However, if I used sqlplus or dba studio, I saw trace files generated. Has anyone got Oracle sql trace work for JDBC calls from java apps.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How to set default audio device for java apps on Linux?

    I would like to find a way to choose a particular (ALSA) audio device for java applications. How can this be done without reprogramming the application or changing the default ALSA device? I came across "sound.properties", but could not find any information how to use this file on an ALSA system.
    Thanks for any help, Mark

    We can't satisfy everyone. What you want is a corner case. For most people ALSA and dmix works appropriately, and that is what esd uses by default. We cannot document and automate every configuration possible. That's up to the users.
    However, if you don't want to restart gnome, try the below... I make a few assumptions, but even if they're wrong, they're hardly difficult to work around.
    Just copy the /etc/esd.conf to ~/.esd.conf, make your change, then do killall esd. Presumably gnome will restart esd, and it ought to read your local config. If it doesnt, start it yourself.
    Feel free to write a script that automates this, or document it on the wiki.
    I have to restart Gnome to get this thing working. Other OSes *automatically* can use an alternative device. But if I change ESD, I will have to restart Gnome, no?
    Well, if you try my suggestion above, no. You can restart esd yourself. And that's what all the other distros do, except with some fancy GUI.

  • How to implement secure Licencing for Java Apps?

    Hi
    I'm already thinking some months about this topic. I serached the web, some books and magazines, i asked quite a lot of people - but in the end, there seems to be no really satisfying answer.
    My main question is: what can i do to protect the software i wrote? The problem is, where ever i start, i end with open questions.....
    I may start delivering a custom licence key with my software that contains information i.e. about who may run it and for how long. To check integrity i sign the licences key (with a digest) and ckeck the integrity in the application. Like this, i could make sure, that the software runs only with a valid licence.
    But two new problem araise - if the licence key is given to the web, everyone will be able to run the software. Second, i have to implement a methode to check the digest, so i have to deliver the key with the software and like this, the key could just be used to generate new licence files. Third, i hav to protect my code, since anyone could recompile it, he could check the algorithms i use to check the digest and even worse, he just could disable the codeblock that checks the licence.
    So i use an obfuscator to scramble my code, and to get the most out of this technique, i use a controlflow obfuscator. This adds some security, but still the code can be decompiled but wouldn't be too easy to understand. For making it even a little bit harder to read, i will "distribute" the licence digest check over some different classes.
    But still the first two problems remain. So i think about encrypting the licence file. To make that secure, i would use a public/private key encryption since if i use a secret key encryption i would have to deliver the key with the software and anyone could use it to generate new encrypted licene files. The problem with the public/private key is, that i should deliver a public key with the software that is only capable of decrypting, but not of encrypting. Like this, i can implement a decryption methode in the software that can decrypt the licence file and read all requiered licence data but the user is not able to generate a new licence file because he has the read-only key. Obvisouly there is no such private/public key technique that allows one key to be decrypt only and the other to be encrypt and decrypt (or at least encrypt only). Algorithms like PGP have a public key that allows encryption only and a private key that allows decryption only.
    I could go on presenting some more ideas i found to "protect" software/licence but the all come to the same point where they leave a lot of other open questions.
    I wonder what you all out there do to protect your software, what kind of technique you use for licencing implementation. I would be very glad to read what problem you face reagarding this topics and maybe how you solved it or what your conclusion was.
    Greetings
    josh

    >
    yes, absolutely. That's the point. Try to make it hard
    to get the software some other way. So it's easer to
    get the software by buying it.
    Nope.
    - There are those who steal it just to steal it. They don't use it.
    - There are those who steal it because the price is too extreme. If your income for the year is measured as only several thousand dollars you are not going to be able to buy a package that costs a thousand dollars or more.
    - There are those who steal it because the preceived benifit is less than the cost. For instance, at least in the past, MS software cost at least three times as much in some european companies compared to the exchange rate.
    - Finally there are those who steal simply because they don't want to pay for it.
    As far as I am concerned the last category is the only relevant one. And that is far smaller than any software theft estimates that the software industry regularly claims.

    Here is an example of someone who thinks that their
    work is good enough and valuable enough to stand on
    its own...http://www.fileviewer.com/.
    And I liked it enough that at one company I hadthem
    purchase a site license. And I like it enough thatI
    still remember the company five years after thelast
    time I needed the product.that's fine and it would be very nice if everybody
    would be like you. But that's not the case and you
    even may not be sure if not someone in that company
    took a copy of the software and the licence and now is
    using it for free are even gave it in the "public
    domain". Woulnd't that be sad if the company would
    have to close down someday because just a few people
    are paying for it. Even if it is such a smart
    product?There was a clothing chain that closed down because they claimed that, even after installing anti-theft devices, they were still losing too much money from shop lifters.
    If that is the case why do all of the other companies still exist?
    If your product is good then people will buy it. The successes for that are abundant. The only success stories for copy protection schemes are for the copies that sell those schemes.

    i wonder if you close your door when you leava your
    appartment. I mean, what's wrong with protecting a
    code? It's just the same as protecting the money you
    earn, the furnish in your appartment, ...
    Sorry, when I buy a product then I expect to be able to use it.
    With your analogy I would have to use a code that you provided everytime I wanted to get into and out of my apartment.
    So for any comments, ideas, ... on how to addsome
    more protection i'm very thankfull.You search for "obfuscator".yes, as i wrote in the first posting, i know about
    obfuscator, i'm using it, but it's just very poor
    protection. That's why I'm looking for a smart concept
    to gain a little bit more protection.And if you search for that term in these forums, and read the lengthy posts, you might find some ideas. Which is why I suggested it. (And you might understand why the alternatives are not used.)

  • Oracle To End Support for Java 7

    No More Free Updates for Java 7 after April 2015
    Users must sign long-term support deals or migrate to Java 8 to avoid 'enormous headache and disruption to millions of applications'
    Public updates for Java 7 -- including bug and security fixes -- will end this month, a situation that one security advocate says could impact millions of applications.
    "As outlined in the Oracle JDK [Java Development Kit] Support Roadmap, after April 2015, Oracle will not post further updates of Java SE [Standard Edition] 7 to its public download sites," Oracle's Java SE Support Roadmap states. "Customers who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 7 or older versions can get long-term support through Oracle Java SE Support. The process of migrating users from Java 7 to Java 8 through the auto update feature is expected to take place after the January 2015 CPU release."
    [ The art of programming is changing rapidly. We help you navigate what's hot in programming and what's going cold and give insights into the technologies that are changing how developers work. | Keep up with hot topics in app dev with InfoWorld's Application Development newsletter. ]
    Oracle released Java SE 7 in July 2011; Java SE 8 was released in March 2014. Java, particularly on the client side, has been beset by security issues in recent years. But Oracle has taken many steps to address the issues and stressed that most of the problems dated back several years, before Oracle took over Java from Sun in 2010.
    Still, the impact of Oracle's cessation of public updates could be severe, an official at security firm Waratek, believes. Oracle's "rapid" end-of-life schedule for Java versions is great for innovation and language evolution, Waratek CTO John Matthew Holt said in an emailed statement. "However, there is a dangerous tradeoff; now millions of Java 7 applications will have to defend themselves against code-level vulnerabilities without the benefit of future fixes." Holt advocates either upgrades to Java 8 or use of Java Run-time Application Self Protection (RASP) technologies (Waratek is a RASP vendor).
    This week's security update from Oracle, meanwhile, marks the "proverbial 'end of the road' for Java 7 application security, Holt said. "After today, the only version of the Java Platform which will receive public security updates is Java 8.  This is huge news, and it is going to cause enormous headache and disruption to millions of application owners around the world."
    Contacted Tuesday afternoon for a comment on the end of public updates for Java SE 7, by late evening Oracle had not yet responded.
    The April 2015 Critical Patch Update released Tuesday by Oracle provides 98 new fixes for security issues across a wide range of product families, said Eric Maurice in an Oracle blog post. These range from Oracle Database to Oracle Fusion Middleware, Java SE, and MySQL. Fourteen of the security fixes are for Java SE.

    Java 7 has already been dead for quite a while. While you could still use it for Java apps on your system, Apple blocked its use in browsers long ago. You have to install version 8 if you need Java support for the web.

  • Usage of Object Cache for Java in J2EE apps

    Hi,
    we are investigating on whether we can use the Object Cache for Java
    (OCS4J) for our requirements. The question we have come across is:
    What is the designated way of integration for the Object cache to fit
    into the J2EE environment? Unfortunately, although the current manuals
    group OCS4J into the "Oracle Containers for J2EE Services Guide" and the
    suggested package name for the whole thing in JSR 107 seems to be
    javax.util.jcache, there is very little documentation on how the
    designers would like J2EE programmers to use the cache from within a
    J2EE app and all examples given are not from within a J2EE environment.
    We are in particular thinking about a hierarchy of several cache
    "compartments" (Region->Subregion->group) for different topics and using
    the hierarchical name of the cache (region.subregion.group) as the
    primary key for BMP Entity beans, each of them having their own
    CacheAccess object. Then we would have an API of stateless Session beans
    on top of that, which would be determining the cache "compartment", get
    the appropriate Entity Bean with the Cache Access object and then do the
    required operations on the cache.
    But then we immediately run into the question of how the mapping between
    Cache Objects and CacheAccess objects will be done etc.
    So is there anybody that can give us any hints how to use the OCS4J in
    an EJB scenario?
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    We have Java client requesting over HTTP to application server. We would like to cache some of the objects created by the servlet while serving the request. Can I use the OCS4J for caching the Java objects. Do I require any software or just copying the JAR file and importing the class would serve the purpose?

  • Simple Web Frontend for existing Java app

    Hi there!
    (sorry for my english at first ;)
    I have an existing java app which currently is used via command line. It's a server application which mostly does monitoring outputs and functions you can use in the shell are like starting/stopping the server. For these outputs and for starting/stopping and so on i want to create a simple web frontend which gives me the ability to do this.
    What do i need? It would be fine if i do not have to set up a large tomcat server because the program should run out of the box. Of course i want to access the website via the internet (simple login). The whole thing would be about 2-5 simple pages. Best thing would be if i could update the monitoring variables via java script.
    Can i use servlets (not much experience with it so far, that's why i ask :) )? What do i need for the webserver? Can i access my data variables from right from the servlet?
    Thanks in advance,
    kiwaque

    If you are familiar with Swing, I would suggest GWT for the Frontend... you can build and debug the Frontend similar to a Swing App, and then compile it to HTML/CSS/Javascript...

  • Set up DB Connection Pool for Oracle DataBase Using Java App Server8

    Hi,
    In the Admin Console of Java App Server 8, I tried to create a connection pool for the oracle database. I chose Resource Type to be "javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource" and the Vendor is Oracle. So the Data Source Class Name is filled by the system to be "oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionPoolDataSource". Now, I set up the class path to point to the database driver class "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver" and also the to the Data Source Class Name. Also I set up the JVM options in the console. Restart the server, and then try to ping to the database, but get the error:
    Operation 'pingConnectionPool' failed in 'resources' Config Mbean. Target exception message: Connection could not be allocated because: No suitable driver
    I don't understand what else I should do and why this error is coming?
    Please help me out.
    Thank you
    Regards,
    Sarah

    Hi,
    I've already solve the problem. I did the following:
    set the Url to be: jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:port:SID
    set username
    set password
    add oracle.jdbc.drivers.OracleDriver into the JVM options -Djdbc.drivers
    restart the server
    test the connection
    it works :)

    I am an eclipse user that is looking at studio creator 2 and was wondering if I could create a java app for my palm zire 71. I have read alot about no floating point support in midp... is that true for java on the palm? If so, how does one calculate with floats and doubles to do sqrt functions etc?
    Thanks in advance for your time

    I looked at netbeans and it does not support floating points in midlets. Not good for palm app if no floating point ability. J2ME supports floating point but in netbeans... is uses midlets and there are no floating points. Now what does one do? Not that dreaded C++

    After installing "Java for OS X 2013-004" update, Java apps don't work anymore as expected.
    Windows of Swing apps don't display all GUI elements.
    After replacing System/Library/Java from a Time MAchine Backup, everything works normal again.
    Is this update corrupted?

    "avoid using Java in a web browser at all,..."
    Good advice.
    "...old Java apps/applets that aren't written to modern specs ..."
    The stand-alone Java Swing applications, that don't display their GUI elements after installing this update, have been written according to modern standards. With Oracle Java7, and with Java6 from Apple prior to this update, they run absolutely flawlessly.
    This is absolutely Apple's fault.

  • Book for selling Java app

    Hows it going?
    I have made a java program that I want to sell via a website which I need to set up and I would like to buy a book which can guide me through this (I have 7 years Java programming experience but no real experience of deployment or websites).
    I need to know:
    * How to allow a user to download a 30 trial version which will then expire unless they buy the app.
    * How to accept payment for the app
    * How to prevent others from just reselling my app themselves (copyright?)
    * How to put a forum on the site
    What I am after is a book that will cover as many of these requirements as possible.
    Can anyone recommend anything?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jim

    Its an application for people learning foreign languages. It doesnt use any database and is a stand alone pure java app. It does write to the users local File system to store the data for the app.

  • PKGBUILD Tips for Funky Java App

    I'm trying to make a PKGBUILD for the GURPS character sheet program. It's a Java app, so I tried to follow the Java PKGBUILD guidelines from the wiki, but gcs has a weird build system that made things difficult. The main annoyances are that it tries to include its own JRE, and rather than running using a normal jar it includes a binary launcher for which I can't find the source.
    Here's my PKGBUILD that just tries to whip the binary package into shape:
    pkgname=gcs
    pkgver=4.0.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="An editor for building character sheets for GURPS 4th Edition."
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://gurpscharactersheet.com"
    license=('MPL')
    depends=('java-runtime')
    src="$pkgname-$pkgver-linux"
    if test "$CARCH" == i686; then
    src+='-32'
    fi
    source=("${src}.zip::http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcs-java/files/${src}.zip/download")
    md5sums=('SKIP')
    build() {
    pushd $srcdir/$src
    rm -r support/jre
    ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/default/jre support/jre
    popd
    package() {
    install -d $pkgdir/usr/{bin,share}
    cp -dr --no-preserve=ownership ${src} $pkgdir/usr/share/gcs
    ln -s $pkgdir/usr/share/gcs/gcs $pkgdir/usr/bin/gcs
    Am I doing anything stupid?

    How are you supposed to configure a package that requires Java 8? Should I not use $JAVA_HOME since that could be pointing to an older version?
    Anyway, I've produced a better package, but the build process is still kinda ugly.
    I couldn't figure out a way to use ant's bundle (which includes the JRE and the precompiled binaries), so I skipped that entirely and just copied everything myself - that let me use the recommended /usr/share/java organization. But since the app expects everything to be in one directory (with a fixed path), I had to patch it to let me configure the app directory using an environment variable.
    Here's a git repo for the files: https://github.com/silverhammermba/gcs
    And my new PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=gcs
    pkgver=4.0.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="A WYSIWYG editor for building character sheets for GURPS 4th Edition."
    arch=('any')
    url="http://gurpscharactersheet.com"
    license=('MPL')
    makedepends=('git' 'apache-ant')
    depends=('java-runtime')
    source=(
    'git://code.trollworks.com/apple_stubs.git'
    "git://code.trollworks.com/gcs.git#tag=$pkgver"
    "git://code.trollworks.com/toolkit.git#tag=$pkgver"
    md5sums=('SKIP' 'SKIP' 'SKIP')
    prepare() {
    cd "$srcdir/toolkit"
    git apply "$startdir/set_app_path_from_env.patch"
    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/apple_stubs"
    ant
    cd "$srcdir/toolkit"
    ant
    cd "$srcdir/gcs"
    ant
    package() {
    install -d "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs"
    find "$srcdir" -name '*.jar' ! -name '*-src.*' -execdir install -m644 {} "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs" \;
    mv $pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs/gcs-*.jar "$pkgdir/usr/share/java/gcs/gcs.jar"
    install -d "$pkgdir/usr/share/gcs"
