NullPoint Error shows up in The Java EE 7 Tutorial

I am reading The Java EE 7 Tutorial from http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/7/tutorial/doc/jsf-facelets005.htm#GIQZR
After I typed the example code in the chapter 8.5 Composite Components in my IDE and run the example on GlassFish4.0, I got an error.
java.lang.NullPointerException
  at java.util.concurrent.ConcurrentHashMap.putIfAbsent(ConcurrentHashMap.java:1078)
  at com.sun.faces.util.Cache.get(Cache.java:116)
  at com.sun.faces.application.view.FaceletViewHandlingStrategy.getComponentMetadata(FaceletViewHandlingStrategy.java:237)
  at com.sun.faces.application.ApplicationImpl.createComponent(ApplicationImpl.java:951)
  at javax.faces.application.ApplicationWrapper.createComponent(ApplicationWrapper.java:648)
Then I check the older version of this tutorial, I found a difference in email.xhtml code. The namespace has been changed from Java EE 7. After I changed the namespace back to JavaEE 6 version, it works.
Java EE 7
xmlns:composite="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/composite"
Java EE 6
xmlns:composite="http://java.sun.com/jsf/composite"
Someone on the StackOverflow told me that this may caused by Glassfish has attempted to download a schema corresponding to one of those namespaces, and received a response that it can't handle. I don't know whether is the real root cause. Is there anyone has the same problem?

The example from 30. august 2013 (tut-install/examples/web/jsf/compositecomponentexample/) is with the old namespace xmlns:composite="http://java.sun.com/jsf/composite"
But the namespace xmlns:composite="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/composite" is also ok. Works with RI 2.2.4 on Tomcat.

    can any one solve this problem if i have to install any another software for that.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Is this 32 bit or 64 bit. If its 64 Bit, first you install 64 Bit JDK and put in PATH. Make sure when you run java -version, it shows this version. Now download weblogic server Generic Installer (.jar extension). Run this command
    java -D64 -jar weblogicgenericxxxxx.jar (Sometimes -D64 should be -d64. I had seen this on few machines. So try -D64 or -d64).

  • Osdm error 'could not create the Java virtual machine.'

    Running on Windows XP. SQL Developer reports Java(TM) Platform=1.5.0_06
    I downloaded and unzipped the osdm early adopter release,but when I double click on the osdm.exe, I get a dialog box titled"Java Virtual Machine Launcher" with the error:
    could not create the Java virtual machine.
    I'm don't know where to begin to troubleshoot this problem.
    Is there a log,trace,error file somewhere?
    Do I need something specific in my path or an environment variable set?

    Thanks Jim, for helping and the support. I'll respond to a few things in this thread for the rest of the forum.
    Feedback
    Let's start with the feedback and support. As Rene said, he is working at answering all queries coming into the feedback application. This means reviewing the issues, working with the developers and logging bugs. Each comment and query in that application is addressed and users can go back in an review the feedback for their own comments in the application too. We have had considerable interest and downloads, about which we are very excited, and this means there are lots of queries. Rene is addressing all these, and as I type, there are no comments in that application that have not been addressed. Not all are closed, as there are some outstanding issues, but each user who has submitted a comment shold have received at least one email.
    The Team
    I'm reluctant to comment about which part of the product is built in which country, but will say that SQL Developer has been a small team, with the greater percentage of developers living outside the US from the outset. I love working in the team including the wide diversity of locales and cultures and also think that because we live across multiple time zones, we can help users most times of the day or night. We are very privileged to have had the modeling team join us and I'm sure you'll get to know them in time too. If you are interested, the team stretches across a few states in the US, Ireland, Northern Ireland,England, Belgium, Bulgaria, India and China!
    Now to the problem. - Java virtual machine
    1. There is a choice of download, either with the JDK or without. If you download the build with the JDK, there should be no problem, as the product knows where to find the jdk. I'm not sure I see which of these 2 downloads was used. So that would be useful information to have.
    2. If you use the build without the JDK, then Data Modeling looking for the detail in your path.(Unlike in SQL Developer where we prompt you) You can test to see what is in your path by starting a command line, or command prompt and typing java -version. This will tell you what version of java is being looked for and used by Data Modeling.
    If you do not have a JDK, then you can download and install that as described on the download page.
    Troubleshooting
    We want to release SQL Developer Data Modeling as a standalone tool (i.e. what you are testing today) or underpinned by a repository. So our main goal is to ensure that we have a solid stable and usable product for production. The plan is to follow production with a much tighter integration to the underlying SQL Developer framework.

    Sue

    i am unable to copy my contact which are in *.vcf format in my pc to my icloud. error shows cannot read the vcard. help

    Hey guys,
    So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

    My explanation is that my typical devlopers path is full of all kinds of stuff, including perl,

    I eventually fixed the rest of the samples build process by cleaning up my path.

    # note this includes the JDK path we want to use
    set path=C:\java\jdk1.8.0\bin;C:\windows\system32;C:\windows;C:\windows\System32\Wbem;

  • Could not run the bookstore1 example from the Java Web Services Tutorial

    The bookstore1 servlets example from the Java Web Services Tutorial (issue Aug 1, 2002) was built and deployed successfully by using the deploytool (following the steps described on pages 498ff of the tutorial).
    After deploying the application the Tomcat Web Application Manager shows the entry:
    /bookstore1:stopped:0:D:\Programme\Java\tomcat\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.8\work\Standalone\localhost\manager\bookstore1.war
    when entering the command: http://localhost:8080/manager/list.
    After entering the command: http://localhost:8080/manager/start?path=/bookstore1, the (uncomplete) message appears:
    FAIL - Application at context path /bookstore1 could not
    It should be noted that I was able to build and deploy the application GSApp (chapter 3 of the tutorial) successfully.

  • Named Parameters in Queries - the spec vs the Java EE 5 Tutorial

    Hi,
    I've been studying the topic about the named parameters in JPA and found one inconsistency between the spec and the Java EE 5 Tutorial. Could anyone lend me a helping hand understanding it?
    The Java Persistence API spec (ejb-3_0-fr-spec-persistence.pdf) 3.6.3 "Named Parameters" at page 69 reads:
    The use of named parameters applies to the Java Persistence query language, and is not defined for native queries.
    whereas the Java EE 5 Tutorial in the section Named Parameters in Queries (http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/PersistenceIntro3.html#wp81563) of The EntityManager reads:
    Named parameters are case-sensitive, and may be used by both dynamic and static queries.
    I think that the reality is that every JPA provider supports named parameters in dynamic and static queries, but it's not fully supported by the spec (yet not forbidden).
    Jacek
    Jacek Laskowski
    http://www.jaceklaskowski.pl

    Hi Jacek,
    These are not conflicting statements. Named parameters apply to the Java Persistence
    Query language only, not to native queries. There are two ways to specifiy
    Java Persistence Query Language queries : dynamically and statically. You can
    either pre-define the query string using @NamedQuery
    static :
    @NamedQuery(name="findPersonByName",
    query="SELECT OBJECT(p) FROM Person p WHERE p.name LIKE :pName")
    OR, pass the query string in at runtime using EntityManger.createQuery
    dynamic :
    em.createQuery("SELECT OBJECT(p) FROM Person p WHERE p.name LIKE :pName")
    The dynamic approach allows you to construct portions of the query string at runtime.
    My example doesn't do that but the point is that use of the createQuery()
    API is considered the dynamic approach.
    The crux of the Java EE 5 Tutorial statement you referenced is that named parameters apply to
    both the static and dynamic use of Java Persistence Query Language queries.

    I downloaded WebLogic Platform 10.3.0.0 (net_server103_win32.exe) and installed it on my Windows Vista laptop.

    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem?
    Thank you,
    B. Regan

    I do not know how to modify any startup parameters. I am new to WebLogic and downloaded and installed the server for the first time yesterday. I used all of the defaults for the install. To start the server I am using Windows Start menu like this:
    Start-->All Programs-->Oracle WebLogic-->WebLogic Server 10gR3-->Examples-->Start Examples Server
    A command prompt window opens and the messages I described earlier display in the window.
    These were the messages when I used another command window to call the example server domain's bin\setDomainEnv.cmd script and then execute java -version (as suggested in the earlier post):
    C:\bea\wlserver_10.3\samples\domains\wl_server>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_05"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_05-b13)
    BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.0-50_o-100423-1.6.0_05-20080626-2105-windows-ia32, c
    ompiled mode)
    I see now that when I go to
    Start-->All Programs-->Oracle WebLogic-->WebLogic Server 10gR3-->Examples
    that there is an option to "Stop Example Server" When I choose that option another command window opens, a couple of messages scroll by, there's a pause at a "connecting to t3://localhost:7001" then a bunch of message flash by and the command window disappears. So I can't capture the output of that command.
    I tried rebooting my laptop but no change in the behavior.
    There is some good news. I tried starting the Medical Records Server. That command succeeded. I will see what I can learn through using the Medical Records Server and ignore the Examples Server for now.

    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions, Raaamis!
    For which Nokia phone is this? Are you using the phone to update the software of the phone or are you using your computer (Nokia Suite, Zune software)? Where are you getting the error message?
    Is the internet connection up and running?
    You can reboot the phone and your computer (if update is done using this) and then try to update your phone again.
