O-R XMLtype versus relational table storage with XMLType
Hi,
I am working on a application which centers around ingesting/storing, editing and publishing a huge XML file (spanning several days of a calendar).
I am confused as to whether I should choose to store the XML as O-R XMLType (by registering the schema etc.) or just as an XMLType in a table.
The requirements are:
1. Farly frequent edits both and leaf and on branches.
2. Merging of XML when a new one comes in.
3. XML itself is of the order of 10s of Gigs.
4. Publishing as XML.
5. Middle-tier in JBOSS.
6. Validation before ingesting (could be dont in the middle tier).
7. Applying edits to the XML after it is stored and just before it is published.
8. XSLT Tranformations to an incoming XML to convert it to my format to be stored. (could be done in the middle tier)
This on Oracle 11g.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Vishal
Best place to start would be with an Oracle document at
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/xmldb/index.html

Mapping with xml-schema XML-data to relational tables
Hello,
is it possible to map data from xml documents to relational tables with xml-schema?
I mean not in nested tables but in relational tables with primary and foreign keys!
With SQL Server 2005 it is very easy, I dont believe that Oracle couldn't do this!
I searched but i cant find anything about that!
Thx
user445232indeed, oracle does this for xml schema based xmltype data, however, these underlying tables are not accessable to the application. Maybe It should for next version, so folks who like to use relational model can use it without mapping it manually.
Actually, nested tables, are the same, their underlying tables (segments) are indeed relational tables, oracle manages them internally and not visiable to the application. You can find them in the user_segments, user_objects views though. -
Populate PK(DBSequence) in three related tables with master detail association
Hi
I use jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0.
My English isn't very good.
I have 3 tables with master detail association between them and primary key from table A should populate to tables B and finally C .The primary key is a sequence from data base and I set PK attribute in table A as a DBSequence. (table C is the child of table B and table B is the child of table A)
My association is like this: A->B(BAFk1Assoc) and B ->C(CBFk1Assoc) and also I select Composition Association for these two association. And I select ‘Cascade Update Key Attribute’
When I insert row in these three related tables, a negative number create but when I COMMIT the PK populate only to table B not to table C and the exception below raises:
Constraint "C_B_FK1" is violated during post operation "Insert"
ORA-02291: integrity constraint (HR.C_B_FK1) violated - parent key not found.
If I only work with tables A and B, there isn't any problem but if I add table C as the child of B, this exception raises.
HabibThe question is how you create the row for table C. Do you create it as child from table b (using the VO for B and using the link to C)?
In this case the framework should populate the PK of the master row B as FK in table C.
You may need to control the order in which the rows are posted to the DB to avoid this problem. Read Advanced Entity Object Techniques - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.6.0) to get more info about this.
However, sometimes it's easier to control the generation and setting if the PK attributes in the model layer, not relating on db triggers where you get the real values only after the commit operation is done in the db. For this you can use a Groovy expression so you have access to the PK of each new created row right after creation. Read Using Groovy Expression to set a Primary Key with a Sequence Number | JDev & ADF Goodies to find out how to do this.

XML file validation with XSD and loading to database relational table
Hi all,
I have some xml files coming to my unix directory. I will be having an XSD for those. My task is to validate those xml against given xsd and load the corresponding data into oracle relational tables with sqlloader only.
Please help me to accomplish. and let me know the contents of control file ( for SQLLOADER) if i want to load the xml directly to database.
Unix and/or PLSQL suggestions both are welcome. My problem area is loading the XML to Oracle relational tables using sqlloader.
suppose, the xml is <?xml version="1.0"?>

Mix object tables with relational tables?
Hallo,
is it possible to mix object tables with relational tables in one database?
I didn't succeed in assigning a foreign key from a relational table to an object table.
Is this only working with column objects in relational tables?Hi
is it possible to mix object tables with relational tables in one database?
Every database contains both types of tables. So, it is basically not a problem.
I didn't succeed in assigning a foreign key from a relational table to an object table.
Is this only working with column objects in relational tables? It would be interesting to know how you tried... e.g. what error you get... Here an example (executed on 11.1).

SQL> insert into rt values (2);

Relation between BSEG with Asset Tables
HI Guru's,
how to find relation between BSEG with Asset Tables like ANLA and ANEP..
regards
JKForeign keys
- ANEP items are linked to ANLA via fields in common ANLN1 and ANLN2
- ANEK header is linked to ANEP items via fields in common ANLN1, ANLN2, GJAHR and LNRAN
- BKPF and BSEG are linked to ANEL ANEP via BUKRS, BELNR and GJAHR
Optimization (as BSEG is behind a cluster table RFBLG)
- Append BSIS (ZABSIS) and BSAS with ANLN1 and ANLN2, then create an index with these fields. As BSIS is filled via MOVE-CORRESPONDING statement, only a one-shot report to initially fill the new fields is to be developed. (look at old OSS [Note 62435 - F-03: Selection by purchasing documents|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/62435] for optimization via purchase order)

Table relation for CDPOS with AUSP?
Hi All,
I have CDPOS table entries for ABAUSP (i.e. AUSP table). Now i need to relate this CDPOS with AUSP.
For example, to relate CDPOS with ESTVH, i can use table relations CDPOS-OBJECTID = ESTRH-SUBID and get ESRTH-RECNROOT and ESTRH-RECNROOT = ESTVH-RECNROOT.
CDPOS ESTRH ESTVH
OBJECTID------>SUBID
RECNROOT------->RECNROOT
Similarly, Please let me know the table relation for CDPOS with AUSP. Your help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Srilakshmi.
Edited by: Srilakshmi Moola Ram on Dec 16, 2009 11:57 AMHi,
To find a relation you first get the change number from CDHDR table. The object ID is your AUSP-OBJEK and
OBJECTCLAS = 'CLASSIFY'
Also use TABNAME = 'ABAUSP' in your query. hope this helps

Help with universe with multiple related tables/loops
Post Author: bradwist
CA Forum: Semantic Layer and Data Connectivity
Hi. I am relatively new to Business Objects and have been putting together some universes for our use. Most things I can accomplish well enough. However, I've run into an issue that I think fits within this topic. I've got several related tables and I'm looking for the best way to construct the universe to support our queries. The best way to describe them is to say that the database has a table of Person records, and a table of Relationships. One Person may be related to another Person in a number of ways (sibling, spouse, parent, etc). This can be pictured as Person Relationship ID -
< PersonID -
< RelatedPersonID or Person1 -< Relationship >- Person2 where Person1 and Person2 really both point to the same physical table. I believe these tend to lend themselves to Aliases. However, each Person table really has a number of subordinate records in tables (addresses, phone numbers, etc). Address1 >--- Person1 -< Relationship >- Person2 ---< Address2 While this can be done (and I've done so), it's difficult to explain to some analysts why this construct is needed in the universe in order to answer a question like: Give me all of Bob's Siblings, their ages, and their addresses. This is a simplification, as our structures actually include other types of Entities (Person, Business, Government, Organizations), all of which can be related to one another. Is there a way that BO Universes will support this structure? Thanks.exp system/manager file=exp.dmp log=exp.log full=y at the source database.
imp system/manager file=exp.dmp log=imp_show.log full=y show=y - create the log file without importing the data
edit the imp_show.log and extract the statements that are needed to re-create users, roles, alter user and grants.
Pre-create the tablespaces using SQL*Plus in the target database.
execute the modified imp_show.log(All DDl's)
imp system/manager file=exp.dmp log=imp.log fromuser=A touser=B
Re-compile all the Invalid Objects.

Loading XML Data into Relational Table
Hello,
I receive an XML file generated from another tool (on Windows), I am trying to create a Linux shell script that will gather the needed XML file from my Linux database server, then have Oracle use this file to load the XML data into a relational table. This activity & data will be needed on an ongoing basis.
I have tried this two ways. First, I loaded the XML document into the database and tried to extract the data directly from the document, but that is not working. Now I want to try to read the data directly from the file on the server via select, however I am not getting any data returned. In the Select statement below, I am simply trying to query the data to see what is returned for my testing.
Create Table ci_results_table (transactionID Varchar2(100), //transactionID should be PrimaryKey but was getting NULL value errors during insert test, so removed PK
message Varchar2(200),
ci Varchar2(50),
processeddate xmltype,
status Varchar2(50),
sourcefile VarChar2(100));
select x.*
from XMLTable(
'TSPLoadResults/Results'
PASSING xmltype(bfilename('CMDB_DEVADHOCRESULTS_DIR','LoadResults-HP_146.results.xml'), nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'))
COLUMNS
transactionID Varchar2(100) PATH 'TransactionID',
Result XMLType PATH 'Result',
Message Varchar2(200) PATH 'Message',
PrimaryKey Varchar2(50) PATH 'PrimaryKey',
ProcessedDate date PATH 'ProcessedDate',
Status Varchar2(50) PATH 'Status',
SourceFile VarChar2(100) PATH 'SourceFileName'
) x
Eventually I will need to build on this to limit the data returned to those records where SourceFileName is like 'HPDS%' and insert what is returned in to the ci_results_table. Attached is a sample Results XML file I am trying to load, It is named "ResultsTransformedtoUnix" because I used dos2Unix to convert it to Unix which may be right or wrong. (The output file I send out has to be transformed to DOS format before the other application can read it). Original file (before Unix conversion) named in script is also attached.
Please help. Thank you!Hi,
I see some wrong things in your query.
1) The obvious one, explaining why you're not getting any data : there's a typo in the XQuery expression, it's "Result" not "Results"
2) ProcessedDate cannot be extracted as a date (at least not directly) since it actually represents a timestamp, use TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE datatype and cast back to DATE in the SELECT clause
3) transactionID is an attribute, it must be accessed with '@' (or 'attribute::' axis)
4) If the file encoding is truly ISO-8859-1 as the prolog suggests, then do not use AL32UTF8 but the corresponding charset name : WE8ISO8859P1
Here's the working query :
select x.transactionID
, x.Message
, x.Primarykey
, cast(x.ProcessedDate as date) ProcessDate
, x.Status
, x.SourceFile
from XMLTable(
'/TSPLoadResults/Result'
PASSING xmltype(bfilename('XML_DIR','LoadResults-HP_146.results.xml'), nls_charset_id('WE8ISO8859P1'))
COLUMNS
transactionID Varchar2(100) PATH '@transactionID',
Message Varchar2(200) PATH 'Message',
PrimaryKey Varchar2(50) PATH 'PrimaryKey',
ProcessedDate timestamp with time zone PATH 'ProcessedDate',
Status Varchar2(50) PATH 'Status',
SourceFile VarChar2(100) PATH 'SourceFileName'
) x
Using this query directly over the file will only perform decently (for large files) on 11.2.0.4 and onwards.
On prior versions, first load the file in a (temporary) XMLType column with Binary XML storage and SELECT from there.
because I used dos2Unix to convert it to Unix which may be right or wrong.
This conversion shouldn't be necessary. -

Select data from an XML Column in a Relational Table
Hi guys,
I read a lot of documentation from Oracle how to select xml nodes from an XML Table. The following statement works perfectly for an XML table.
select extract(OBJECT_VALUE, '/loop/loop_data/description') "DESCRIPTION"

where xmlexists('/loop/loop_data[type_code="212"]' PASSING OBJECT_VALUE);
BUT: how to select xml nodes (data) from a relational table with an XML column???
I'm interested in the xml data.
Thanks!

How to create XML from relational tables based on an XML Schema ?
There is no automated way in Oracle XML DB to define an automatic mapping between a set of columns in some existing relational tables and the elements and attributres defined by an XML Schema.
However it is easy solve this problem by using the SQL/XML operators (XMLAGG, XMLELEMENT, XMLFOREST, XMLATTRIBUTES, etc) to generate XML documents that are compliant with an XML Schema directly from a SQL statement.
If the XML Schema is registered with Oracle XML DB and the appropraite Schema Location information is added into the generated document using XMLAttributes then it becomes very easy to ensure that the generated documents are valid.
The following example show an easy way to do this by creating an XML View that contains the documents to be validated.

SQL>There is no automated way in Oracle XML DB to define an automatic mapping between a set of columns in some existing relational tables and the elements and attributres defined by an XML Schema.

Reading XML file from specific location&Storing xmldata into related tables
I am new to xml.
My requirement is,
1) Get the xml file from specified location (C:\xmlfiles\ xmldata.xml)
2)Convert xml data in clob data.
3)store the data into related table.
and vice-versa.
What i did,
a) I got the data from related tables and converted into xmlformat using SQLX
b)converted this resultset into clob data and stored as xml file in specific location.
It uses more then ten tables.
All this help i got from AskTom site , thanks for that.
Now i have to do vise-versa, i.e. i have to perform 1), 2), 3) steps........
Please tell me proper steps to acheive it.
Thanks in advance for giving your precious time to solve my issue.Have you read the"XMLDB FAQ" in this Forum?
You could use stuff like:
create or replace directory xmldir as C:\xmlfiles'
declare
xmldata xmltype;
begin
xmldata := xmltype(bfilename('XMLDIR','xmldata.xml'),nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'));
-- etc, etc your code --
-- --> convert to clob by using for instance getclobval() function
-- --> then insert the data in your relational table with CLOB column
-- etc, etc your code --
end;

Can't save any files ever since the update to Maverick.
Hello everybody, Everytime I try to save a file the "save as" box pops up but as soon as I select a folder to save the file to....it flashes and closes. It's definitely an issue of the OS because it happens in any application when attempting to save.
