OBIEE 11g additional table in the generated sql

Hi gurus,
In OBIEE 11g RPD, we have a fact table whose source table is consisted by table A, B, C. Table A joins to table C while table B joins to tables C. And in the content tab, table C is used to filter out some records . If we select a column of A(The aggregation rule of this column is SUM) in the answers only, then table A, B, C are in the generated sql. If we remove the aggregation rule of this column, then there're only table A, C in the generated sql. We're wondering why this happened, but can't figure out.
In this case, the relationship between table B and C is many to one. So additional table B in the generated sql may cause wrong sum. And we need the aggregation rule to sum the number. On the other hand, we can't remove the join between table B and C, since other reports need the join.
Could anyone please provide a solution to remove the additional table B in the generated sql?
Thanks & regards!
shell

Are you using in one report data from tables A, B, C at the same time? If not:
1) Try separating the logical schema by:
- Create an alias table for A and B in the physical layer. Then join these 2 tables. No create another Alias table for B (with a slightly different name) and one Alias table for C. Join these 2 tables (B+ and C)
- Then put everything in your BMM and presentation layer.
- Test your results. Take into account that if you are working with data in tables A and B you have to use the "fact table" B but if you use data in table C, use instead fact table from table B+.
Your logical schema would be like A-->B B+-->C
J.

  • OBIEE 11g "WITH SAWITH0 AS" subquery factoring clause in the generated sql

    I've observed that the OBIEE 11g generates in the query log physical query using the WITH (sub-query factoring) clause to make the generated sql elegantly readable. This is great! Thanks for the developers. However I have some questions about this.
    __Background__
    Oracle Database' default behaviour is that if you have only one sub-query in the WITH section, it executes it as an in-line view and does not materialize it before the main sql is executed. If you have more than one, by default the database engine materializes all of them in the order of the definition. In some cases this can completely blow up the SGA and make the query never ending. To divert this behaviour you can apply two hints that work both in inline views and in sub-queries as well: /*+ MATERIALIZE */ and /*+ INLINE*/, however Analytics 11g does not seem to have hint capabilities at the logical table level, only at physical table level.
    If we go with the current defaults, developers not aware of this feature can bump into serious performance issues for the sake of some syntax candy at the generated sql level, I'm afraid.
    __Questions__
    * Is it possible to turn the Analytics server not to use WITH but use inline views instead?
    * Is there any way to sneak in some hints that would put the /*+ INLINE */ hint to the appropriate place in the generated sub-queries if needed
    * Does the Oracle Database have any initialization parameter that can influence this sub-query factoring behavior and divert from the default?

    The WITH statement is not added to make the query more elegant, it's added for performance reasons. If your queries take long to run then you may have a design issue. In a typical DWH DB SGA needs to be seriously increased since the queries ran are much larger and complex than on an OLTP DB. In any case you can disable the WITH statement in the Admin Tool by double clicking on your database object on the physical layer and going to the Features tab. The feature is called WITH_CLAUSE_SUPPORTED.

  • In OBIEE 11G, how to get the special parameter created by JAVA?

    Hi Experts,
    In OBIEE 11G, how to get the special parameter created by JAVA?
    For example:
    In JAVA , it has set one parameter named 'test'.
    So how to get the parameter in filter area in OBIEE?

    Hi Kobe,
    No P2 holds the parameter name like PresentationTable.ColumnName, in your form you may go for complete name or just column name and before submitting the form you can define the Action url.
    I would suggest to read section 6.3.2.1.
    ex:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    changeAction(url) {
    var TestVar = form.inputbox.value;
    document.this_form.action="saw.dll?Go&Path=/Shared/Test/SB2&Action=Navigate&P0=1&P1=like&P2=Customers.Region&P3="+TestVar;
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <FORM NAME="myform" ACTION="" METHOD="GET">Enter something in the box: <BR>
    <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="inputbox" VALUE=""><P>
    <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="button" Value="Click" onClick="changeAction(this.value)">
    </FORM>

  • Adding additional tables to the extractor configuration

    Hi Experts,
    Can you please help me adding additional tables to the SAP extractor and to configure the field data in the orgstructure to show a flag against the position.
    Luke - I have tried using the option said by you from Application-wide Settings-->Data Centre --> Read SAP Table, it has properly save the added table, but not able to see it from SAP extractor configruation and not able to extract any data. Also, can you please guide me how to use the fields from this table (HRP1010) to write a small piece of logic to show a flag for a particualr position based on data.
    Thanks in advance,
    Purandhar

    Hi Purandhar,
    I have tried using the option said by you from Application-wide Settings-->Data Centre
    --> Read SAP Table, it has properly save the added table, but not able to see it from
    SAP extractor configruation and not able to extract any data.
    This has probably added a data element - I would check in the dataelementconfiguration folder in your build's .delta folder. IF so then you have the first step completed. Now you need to add the necessary configurations to use the data that comes through this data element.
    Go to your orgchart/hierarchy and navigate to Views. Here select your view (or your first view if this needs to be done for more than one view - if so you'll need to repeate these steps but not the step you already did in the Data Centre), and then click the + icon next to Design Details. Here you can add a new linked detail to your view detail. Simply give it a name, select the detail to link it to (usually the top level detail which is in blue), select a link field and then select your data element that was created in the Data Centre.
    Now if you try to add a section to your view inside the Design Details view designer you will see your new detail added. You can then select it and add fields from this detail.
    Also, can you please guide me how to use the fields from this table (HRP1010) to write
    a small piece of logic to show a flag for a particualr position based on data.
    Once you have been able to add the data in the views designer you will probably need to do some XML and XSL editing because you cannot edit XSL files in the AdminConsole and you will need to do this to get your icon/flag to show.
    First of all you need to create a new XSL file and put it into a folder in your .delta\root folder. For example, My_XSL_files. Here you need to write the code to render your flag based on your variable. You can find plenty of examples in all of the pre-existing XSL files. Then you need to copy PresentationResources.xml to .delta\root\XML and add the reference to your new XSL file.
    Go to your build's .delta folder and go to detailconfiguration. Find the detail you just created and open it. You'll find a section in their that you just added with a reference to an XSL file (e.g. if you added a Simple Caption section it will probably be something like SimpleCaptionXSL). Change this to the reference in the PresentationResources.xml.
    Load your build in the AdminConsole and hit Publish. Once done you should see your icon. Sometimes if your XSL is invalid or the code doesn't work you won't see anything. This is not unusual as the whole process can be quite tricky - even for us with lots of experience!
    Good luck!

  • View the generated sql for fetching a repository item

    Hi guys.
    I am interested in viewing the sql that ATG framework generates to fetch a primary repository item. I would like to use this generated sql, directly on the database and avoid me the pain of having to join multiple tables to get one repository item, basically looking to avoid having to write complex sql queries to fetch information for a repository item as ATG application would view it.
    I know there is a switch somewhere to turn it on, but an example would be great. Thanks!

    Turn on the logging debug on for the repository.
    Peace

  • OBIEE 11g . Transparency of the color fill in Mapviewer

    Hi,
    How to set transparency level of the color fill in Mapviewer integrated with OBIEE 11g?
    Thank you for your time!
    Pavel

    Hi,
    Go into the styling rules of your map in MapBuilder and change the render style to a darker color, so when it is rendered over the map in OBIEE it becomes opaque.

    How did you proceed?
    First Essbase or first OBIEE or have WLS installed standalone first?
    Encountered any hurdles?
    Thanks for any hints or links.

  • OBIEE 11g pie chart showing the slices by different measures

    Hi,
    We are using OBIEE 11g. We have a requirement to show PO Met Count , PO Under Count, PO Over Count as a slices in a pie chart. However Pie graph in 11 g is slicing only by a dimension and not by the above measures. This was possible in 10g. I want to know if this a limitation in 11g or is there a way around this.

    HI,
    I tried to slice by measure by dragging the column to slice size section. I have 3 metrics PO Under Count and PO Over Count which add up to total PO count. So I want my pie to ahve 2 slices one for PO Under Count and other for PO Over count. However when I drag the 2 metrics, it shows me 2 pies, one for Over and the other for Under count.

  • How to use my own DTD and table using the XML SQL utility.

    Hey,
    Here is my question. I have succesfully installed Oracle XML SQL utility and I had played around on that. Now I have my own DTD that too from Rosettanet(PIP). Tell me how can I use my own table, and my dtd using the existing utility. What are all the changes do I need to do. I am strugling it from past 4 days. I couldn't. Please help me!

    Hi chris,
    Yes, the SQL can be changed only by using Discoverer Administrator.
    Open the report/workbook that is based on the custom SQL that you want to change in Discoverer Plus. Look at the Folder that is being used to select the columns of the report.
    Open up the Discoverer Administrator with the id that has access to the tables referenced in the report. And the custom folder with the same name as in Disc Plus would be listed down in the Business Area (Which Business Area the custom folder belongs to can be determined with the help of disc plus).
    Just open up that folder, and change the SQL in it. You can pasted your new sql in there and click on Validate SQL to validate it for errors. If no errors, then the custom folder is successfully changed.
    In order to have it reflected, close your existing disc plus session and reopen it, and you can go about using the custom folder.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • OBIEE 11g: Fact table does not have  a properly defined primary key

    Hi,
    We have two fact tables and two dimension tables.
    We have joined the tables like
    D1-->F1
    D2-->F2
    D1-->D2
    We dont have any hieracies.
    It is throwing error in consistency check,
    [nQSError: 15001] Could not load navigation space for subject area ABC.
    [nQSError: 15033] Logical table Fact1 does not have a properly defined primary key.
    It is not like STAR Schema, its like snowflake schema. How to define primary key for fact table.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    My suggestion would be bring both the facts to the same logical table sources and have a single fact table in the BMM layer joined with multiple dimensions.
    Build a dimension hierarchy for the dimensions and then in the content logical layer mapping, map the dimensions to the fact tables with detailed level/Total
    Refer the below link-

  • Obiee 11g Noob question - bring in one sql table

    I am a new to obiee.
    Using version 11g and trying to bring in one sql table. I created my db and table, then I create the data source in odbc. Everything tests fine.
    I then open up the oracle BI administration tool, and 'import metadata'. Everything imports fine - under the 'physical' side I see my sql table and if I hit 'view data' I can see my data just fine.
    I think my problem is that under 'business model and mapping' the icon isn't green it has what looks like a red 'no' type icon. My guess is there is something I have to make that green before I will be able to create a report using my sql table. (diagram?)
    This is just one sql table with no foreign keys or even a pkey. How can I bring in just this one table?

    I created the key in the physical layer...
    then I dragged over the table and then dragged it over again (into the BMM) this created a table called (IT_Metric #1)..
    now I right click and select 'business model diagram', 'whole diagram' which opens a new window with my one table (IT_Metric) then the mouse cursor just shows waiting (hourglass) ...it never stops the hourglass..

  • How to use the generated SQL of "Recommendation"

    Dear Experts,
    I am using KXEN recommendation function. After trained the model, I expose the result in form of HANA SQL. However, I am really have no idea how to make this SQL runnable because there are some subqueries like:
    FROM $Dataset "SPACEIN"
      LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * FROM  WHERE "GRAPH_NAME" = 'Transactions') "PRODUCTS" ON ("PRODUCTS"."KXNODEFIRST" = "SPACEIN".MemberID)
      LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * FROM  WHERE "GRAPH_NAME" = 'Product') "RULES" ON ("PRODUCTS"."KXNODESECOND" = "RULES"."KXNODESECOND")
      LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * FROM  WHERE "GRAPH_NAME" = 'Transactions') "NOTIN" ON ("RULES"."KXNODESECOND_2" = "NOTIN"."KXNODESECOND") AND ("NOTIN"."KXNODEFIRST" = "SPACEIN".MemberID)
    Please pay attention to the red parts. While $Dataset, I assume it should be the data source which is used to train the model, but how to handle the "GRAPH" parts(the next 3 subqueries)? There are something missing after "FROM" clause, what should I fill in here? why the XKEN will generate sucn incomplete codes?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Richard,
    To apply a recommendation model, you first need to save your model in your database. (saving the model in the database for such models and for what you want to do is mandatory).
    Once you saved it, you will see many tables starting with "Kx" : KxInfos, KxLinks, KxNodes...
    These tables contains information on the nodes available in the data used, on the links between products.
    Now, if you generate the SQL code for Hana, the name of your KxLinks table should now be used in the SQL code.
    When prompted for $Dataset and $Key, you should specify in place of $Dataset the name of the table on which you want to apply your model. In place of $Key, you should enter the name of the key of this table (e.g. UserId).
    In my case $Dataset =>KAR_UniqueCustomers and $Key=>UserID
    My generated code looks like this :
    FROM KAR_UniqueCustomers "SPACEIN"
    LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * FROM KxLinks1 WHERE "GRAPH_NAME" = 'Transactions') "PRODUCTS" ON ("PRODUCTS"."KXNODEFIRST" = "SPACEIN".UserID)
    LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT * FROM KxLinks1 WHERE "GRAPH_NAME" = 'ItemPurchased') "RULES" ON ("PRODUCTS"."KXNODESECOND" = "RULES"."KXNODESECOND")
    Note that your application table must contain:
    - A column with the same name as your users identifier in the training dataset. It contains the list of distinct users (stricly 1 row for each customer id)
    - A column with the same name as your products name in the training dataset. It can contain the name of the same product for all customers.
    I hope you'll make it work !
    Armelle
