  • Connecting to Another Database

    Hi,
Can I connect to another database such as Pointbase from JDeveloper?
    If yes, how?
    Thanks,
    Rajeev.

    Rajeev,
In Jdeveloper you have a Connection Navigator that you use to configure named connections. All you need to do is to define the JDBC string in there.

    Hi Everybody,
I have this problem, i have running oracle 8.0.5 on RH6.0

is my Oracle running and try to connect to another database on

username/password. Tnsping to this machine is ok, so i have this
in my tnsname.ora When i create dabase link (with user which I
try to use to connect remote database) on my local datbase to
this database then link works sucessfully too. select * from
dual@remote_database Ok. What's wrong ??? Remote database is

    Try putting

  • How to connect to remote database

    Hi experts,
i want to connect with another database in our network what are all the steps i need to follow? i just confused with listener.ora and tnsnames.ora. waiting for your ideas.....

The database listener is the process that is configured via the listener.ora file. The administrator of the other database should have configured a listener for that database.
On the client machine, you'll need to configure a tnsnames.ora entry unless you are using Oracle Names, Oracle Internet Directory, EZConnect syntax, or something like JDBC to connect. The administrator of the other database should be able to give you a tnsnames entry for connecting to his (or her) database.

  • Java Stored Procedure in one database connecting to muntiple databases.

    Hello,
I created a Java Stored Procedure in one database(Oracle10g) and successfully open a connection to another database(Oracle10g) using Thin JDBC Driver. I want to actually transfer CLOB data from one DB to another DB. I am concern that by opening a connection another database in Java Stored Procedure, might interfere with oracle and destabilize the instance at some point. Oracle JDBC FAQ (Link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.htm#34_13) stated that Yes it could be done but then mentioned the workaround.(if it could be done why do we need a workaround!!!)
I would like to confirm whether connecting to multiple DB using JDBC Thin Driver in a Java Stored Procedure is supported by Oracle10g or not and whether it has any known issue with it.
    Thanks in Advance!

Thanks i have modified the title so its easy to comprehendWrite the two parts mentioned above and post if you get problems with your code.
First write code that calls the stored procedure and test that to make sure that it works.
Then write a simple webservice and test it out to make sure it works. The integration should be trivial after that.

  • Connecting to a database on another machine, please help!!!!!!

    Hi there,
I am new to oracle and at the minute I am using Oracle 9i. I have set up a database on one machine (PC2) and would like to create an odbc from another machine (PC1) to connect to this database. I have set up a listener for (PC1) the using oracle net manager on PC2. what I want to know is: is there anything else I need to do on the PC2 end???? Also, what needs to be done on the PC1 end??? please help!!!

If everything is setup and working properly on the Server PC2, you can just test the ODBC from PC1 (assum you already have an Oracle ODBC drive).

    Pls help thanks in advance.

There are 2 places you need to keep TNS names.ora file for OBIEE to connect.
    1. Oracle client which is in your machine
    2. OBIEEhome>Oracle_BI1\network\admin
I'm sure you would have it in your oracle client. Copy paste the same TNS names in this path too.
Then open rpd and right click on any table in physical layer and click view data. You should see the results.
if this doesn't work check your credentials.
    mark if this helps

  • How to connect another database

I have installed ORACLE 10g database express edition and want to connect to another oracle 8i database, that have installed at server how to connect.

One way is add a TNS alias to your tnsnames.ora file, like this stanza:
    EXAMPLE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = SAMPHOST.mydomain.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = SAMPLSID)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    So in sqlplus ...
    SQL> connect username/passwd@example
will connect you to the database with ORACLE_SID -> SAMPLSID via port 1521 at samphost using a dedicated server connection.

  • ODBC Driver to connect to Ingres Database from OBIEE

{font:Verdana}Hi, I have a requirement to source data from an Ingres Database into OBIEE. I have checked and found that Openlink Software provides an ODBC Driver to connect to Ingres Database from windows OS. Has any one tried this or any alternate method to source data from Ingres DB to OBIEE?
    Any pointers would be great.
    Thanks,

    Kiran,

Sorry for bad news, but my opinion is that whatever isn't in doc that it's not supported. Oracle engineers do thorough testing and the list of compatible DBs is created. Also, even if you manage to make it work - you're going to hit a roadblock with any support issues you might have. Also, you won't be able to take advantages of certain DB-related OBIEE features. So you are're potentially exposing yourself to too many risks if anything goes wrong at mid-development stage.
My advice would be building your DW around Oracle-supported DB.
    Good luck

Hello, i have a wordpress website hosted at my azure account (www.timothy-k.com). I was trying to scale my sql database and i have changed it from standard to basic. Then, I cant connect to my site, because i have this error.
I scale the database again from basic to standard but the issue persists.

    Can you help me?

    Hi DigitalJo,
Are you moving between the service tiers using the Azure Management Portal? Can we have the error which you get?
Connections to the database may be temporarily dropped when a performance level change or upgrade/downgrade completes, and a few seconds may elapse before connections can be re-established. SQL Database applications should be coded to be resilient to dropped
connections as this can occur anytime in SQL Database when a computer fails in the data center and the SQL Database service fails over the database.

  • Unable to connect to local database ( without using tnsname )

    hi guys
i have 2 database running on local machine.
    db1 SID - orcl (install 1st)
db2 SID - unicode (install later)
Today i shutdown unicode database and stop its respective services.
    on dos
    i done a sqlplus scott/tiger, i got an error
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    therefore
    i done a
    set ORACLE_SID=orcl
and i still get the same error.
Therefore i done the another way round. I shutdown orcl database, stop its services and STARTED unicode database and its services.
I have remove the ORACLE_SID enviroment variable.
Now, i issue in command prompt
    sqlplus scott/tiger
i am connected to the unicode database!
Now i shutdown unicode database and startup ORCL database..
    and i issue a
    sqlplus scott/tiger@ORCL..
I HAVE No problem connecting to it..
May i know why do i have to provide the TNSname for ORCL database and i do not have to for the UNICODE database..
Both are local on my database.
    what is wrong ?
by the way, i am on XP.
    thanks!

    hi paul,
    sorry for the late reply.
I was out of town this weekend.
thank you so much for replying..
    Here is my test results.
    inside command prompt
(started both services - OracleServiceOrcl and OracleServiceUnicode)
    set ORACLE_SID=orcl
    sqlplus / as sysdba;
    sys@orcl> exit
    set ORACLE_SID=unicode
    sqlplus / as sysdba;
    sys@unicode> exit
Well, if i explicity set the ORACLE_SID, it works..
So out of curiousity, i done this testing..
    1) connect to both database and shut them down
    2) stop their services
    3) start only ORCL service
    4) close and reopen command prompt to remove the ORACLE_SID enviroment var
    sqlplus / as sysdba;
Error: ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error
    ok..
5)now i stop the ORCL service
    6) and i start the UNICODE service
    then i issue
    sqlplus / as sysdba;
    sys@unicode>
I have got no local or two_Task variable set, i have got no oracle_sid, nor oracle_home environment variable set.
    Any idea paul ?
    Hope to hear your advice.
    Best Regards,
    Noob
