OBIEE report from multiple facts at different levels

Currently we need to develop a report with columns from 3 different facts surrounded with conformed and non conformed dimensions at different levels.
After setting the hierarchial levels and putting the facts into single logical table with different sources OBIEE is generating 2 different queries and does a full outer join.
I would like to know how we can do a left outer join instead of full outer join between the 2 queries based on a common column?

We need to develop a report from multiple fact tables at different levels with conformed & non conformed dimension columns.
I have 7 dimensions D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 and D7 & two fact F1 and F2 tables.
F1 is tied to dimensions D1,D2,D3,D4,d5
F2 is tied to dimensions D3,D4,D5, D6 and D7.
In my report I have columns from D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, F1 and F2.
So OBIEE generates 2 queries with columns from D1,D2,D3,D4,d5 & F1 measure and another query with D3,D4,D5, D6, D7 and F2 measure.
and then does a cross fact join out of box between 2 queries.
But I need to do a left outer join between the 2 queries on a common column instead of cross fact join. I would like to know how we can achive this.

Here is the Scenario: Creating a report which based on two facts(2 Subject Area's) and one common dimension and one unshared dimension.

Dimension Credit Type is applicable only for Fact Credit.
We have to build a report with the below mentioned attributes/metrics

Dim.Credit Type. Attribute (*Unshared Dimension*)
Is this is possible in OBIEE..?

Yes, you must use measure levels. Set the column level of each measure from the Transaction Fact to Total for the Credit Type dim.

OBIEE Facts at different levels.

Hi,
I am bringing columns from three tables: Two facts and one Dimension table to create a OBIEE Report.
The fact tables Workforce Event Fact and Employee Daily Snap Fact are at different levels, but both of them have proper joins with Dimension Employee Dim.
When i am pulling columns from D1 and any one of these two facts, i am not facing any problem in seeing results. But when i bring columns from all of these three tables, i am getting this error,
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 15018] Incorrectly defined logical table source (for fact table Workforce Event Fact) does not contain mapping for [Employee Daily Snap Fact.Exempt Indicator]. (HY000)
Is there anything i have to do in Business Model layer to avoid this error. Many people suggesting to assign an aggregation level for these two facts. But i am not having any Dimensional Hierarchy defined.

Hi swami,
Many people suggesting to assign an aggregation level for these two factsThis is a workaround i think where you need to create aggregate tables(not levels) and then use them for your purpose.(OR) you dint define the logical source table properly either correct it.
Another work around i could suggest is,take the 2 fact tables columns needed into one alias table and make it as fact and join this fact table to dimension table and you can get all columns.

Report Generation from Multiple Facts

I am looking at the options to generate reports based on facts with different grains. The requirement I present here is generic and Im exploring options on this.
Lets say we have two facts fact1 and fact2. The common column between these facts is named - common_column
Now as the grain is different at any point of time, the report generates the data based inline with following SQL
SELECT fact1.column_1, fact1.common_column , aggregate_fun(fact2.column_2 group by fact2.common_column ) from....
Options
*1. Creating a third fact* - A straight forward solution is to create a fact3 and store all the info the report needs
*2. Using fx in OBIEE report* - Use an expression to get the desired output using fx
Do you have any better options that you would suggest to meet this ?

I understand what you are speaking about. Not sure if that would stop us down the name but as of now, my requirement is slightly different hence I believe it should work fine.
Did you refer any good article that shows us how to create logical tables and use it ?
I created a logical table with the two facts as the sources and try to save it. It fails with consistency check and My_Logical_Table. does not join to any other logical table.
Do I need to create two logical tables in my case one for the first fact and one the second fact and use them.. ?
Apparently I wasnted to create a single logical table with the sources as fact1 and fact2 so that it shows the segregated data in one logical view. Any thoughts ?

Filters on non-conforming dimensions when fetching data from multiple facts

Hi,
I would like to confirm my understanding about how OBI fetches data from multiple facts. I have set up the BMM layer. Through Answers I am getting data from multiple facts as expected. However, is it necessary to base filters only on the conforming dimensions? If I do so, I am getting the correct data. But if I filter data on non-conforming dimensions, then I am getting more data which I am not expecting.
Suppose, Fact1, Fact2 and Fact3 share a CommonDim dimension. If I have a filter on CommonDim, then the filter is used on the three fact tables. However, if I filter data based on Fact1's DimTwo which is not shared by Fact2 and Fact3 and I have measurements from all the fact tables, then from the SQL generated, it seems that OBI is fecting all data from Fact2 and Fact3 and data from Fact1 where DimTwo = 'SomeValue'. Then it seems to be merging the data from the three result sets.
Is this expected, esp. a scenario where a filter is based on a non-conforming dimension (DimTwo in the example)? Have I missed anything? What do I need to do, if I want to return rows from Fact1 based on DimTwo's filter and then if there is data on Fact2 and Fact3 based on the value in CommonDim corresponding to DimTwo's filter?

The problem you describe is similar to mine (I wrote several threads ago).
That is, if there is a non-conformed dimension in a report then the column from the fact table which is not connected with those non-conformed dimensions containes zeros or blanks.
Was this problem solved? I didn't quite catch one of previuos messages... If you can please repeat it more detailed.
What I tried to do is to set Total level in the Content tab (LTS properties). In this example - I could set Total level to JOBS in the plan type dimension. But it didn't help.
So if you know what to do then please describe it here...

Yes, i can see datatype and number of columns is same in both queries.
i have challanges to copy message but Error message seems to general. Error says (near to FROM) and I checked there are three FROM in query and all seems to be ok
Query is something like as below

Oracle Obiee - Send Obiee reports to multiple recipients

Hello All,
Can anyone tell me how to send Obiee reports to multiple recipients?
I have used the ibot of Oracle Obiee. And ibot is working fine for the Creator of the ibot but it is not able to send reports to other recipients.
When i get mail from Oracle Delivers the To section is empty and bcc section contains the creator of the ibot.
Please help me on this.

How to call an OBIEE report from EBS

Hi,
I'm trying to call an OBIEE report from an EBS menu.
I have setup the following form function calling SSWA jsp type function
Web HTML
OracleOasis.jsp?mode=OBIEE&function=Go&Path=/shared/APA%20Real%20Time/AR/AR02%20Revenue%20by%20Account%20Report&Action=Prompt
When I click the menu item OBIEE returns the following;
No Columns
The request cannot be performed because it contains no columns.
Can anyone please enlighten me on how to do this correctly

Open OBIEE report from web application

Experts, I want to open OBIEE report from a web application. I have a question regarding the security here. Say I login as 'USER1' in web application, I would have to pass 'USER1' in nquser parameter. Correct? Also, this report has access to 'Sales Group' users only. So, does 'USER1' in web application need to be assigned to 'Sales Group'? Or, any user in the web application can open this report as long as I pass nquser in the GOURL.

You don't need to specify group details.
When the report hits OBIEE, it will determine the permissions based on the nquser.

How to take a non metrics column from one fact to different subject area details level?

I have a requirement in OBIEE ,
I have two fact tables W_AP_INV_DIST_F and W_PURCH_COST_F. In my subject area I am using all facts from W_AP_INV_DIST_F table, But I need one more column as per client's requirement. I searched the column RELEASE_NUM found it in W_PURCH_COST_F. So I have to pull RELEASE_NUM into my subject area, which is having W_AP_INV_DIST_F and couple of dimensions.
I have tried directly pull this column FROM W_PURCH_COST_F (physical layer), and dragged it into one dimension "Dim-AP_INVOICE_Details", here already a LTS "Fact_W_AP_INV_DIST_F" available. In Presentation layer I need to use "RELEASE_NUM" in "Invoice Details" presentation table.
I have doubt weather it will work or not, Will it give correct data at granular level ?
Could you please suggest me is there any way to achieve it in OBIEE level ,without any difficulty? Or else I have to go for ETL Changes?

A single OBIEE report firing Multiple Queries

HI All,
I tried the search option and did not find any questions which gives me what I am looking for. If I missed it and the question is already asked, please redirect me to the thread.
I had a report which had a data issues. When i checked the log, I was shocked to see it firing 10 different queries. Could you guys please tell me exactly when OBIEE decides to split a single query and fire multiple ones?
Here's some info on the report:
1. All the columns are from the same subject area.
2. All the physical tables are in the same database in the physical layer.
3. All the tables are from the same physical catalog even.
4. Majority of the columns are from the same fact. The fact table however has multiple LTS(Over 30) involving both fragmentation and content filters.
Could you guys please let me know why multiple queries are fired in the above case as well as generally by OBIEE?

It is recommended not to edit DB features. If you need to change them you might need to take help of oracle support.
Else you might induce more erratic behavior.
Not in agreement here. Depending on how that data sources beneath OBIEE are physically set up and parametrized you may be forced to change this in order to assure performance for example. Not all your BI-analyzed sources will be purpose-built for analytics and hence follow usual modellization rules or approaches. Oracle put the features in the DB objects for exactly that reason. And obviously you don't go and change the features "just like that".
since fact measures are from multiple LTS, every time you bring a measure from different LTS it is treated as another star. So what OBIEE does is it queries each star separately using alias and then stitch them logically. Thats the reason for fragmented queries and a singel long sql in the end with stitches the other sql results in the end.
True, but the OP was talking about "firing 10 different queries". Which is a bit vague but sounds more like distinct select statements rather than stich-joined WITHs...that's why I directed him towards the features which can actually change this dramatically. Problem is, that the OP hasn't made that exact point clear yet.

How to create a report from multiple dynamic XMLs

I'm trying to build a consolidated report that gets data from multiple XML files and each XML file is different. Although the presentation of the data will be similar, the contents of the XMLs will vary and the number of XMLs to merge will also vary.
What I would like to understand is the following:
* Is it possible to generate a report template based on dynamic columns where the column names, their format and number is different for each business object?
* Is it required to generate an XML with the entire data or can the template read information from different XML files? and if so how it can be done. Please notice that the formatting of each XML may be different.
* Is it possible to use the services to generate the reports directly? Something around these lines was mentioned in one of the sessions but it was also mentioned that it's still WIP.
I've been using the standalone version and although I can get the desired result, I couldn't merge data from multiple XMLs.
Is the new BIP version available, or an enterprise version that I can use?

Even i had a similar kind of problem. I wanted to fetch data from BI through the XMLA Connector which are created in Query Designer and then i wanted to fetch these fields and rearrange them and put it in a report format by colouring certain fields. Can the same can be done in WebDynpro.

One Dimension with Facts at different levels

I currently have a single dimension with 5 levels. I have two fact tables that both connect to the dimension table but at different levels.
For example. If we have a Dimension Country -> Region -> City and then two fact tables. One that has facts at the Region level and one that has facts at the City level.
Is there a way to be able to have an answer that contains facts from both fact tables. So if there was a fact from City and the Region level? Everything I seem to try does not work. Would I have to create an additional aggregate table that aggregates the City level data up to the Region? Or is there a way to show the data at the lowest level and show either nulls or duplicate values for the additional records.

This has helped a little. I am now getting values from both levels. However, because i am summing the two values. The value from the upper level is now summing duplicate values. For example.

Now, the problem with this is that Value 1 is a fact at Level 2 and Value 2 is a fact at Level 3. I have one dimension table and two fact tables. The join between the fact table for Value two and the dimension table is the same as the join between the dimension table and Value 1 only it is missing the last level of detail.
I have then set the logical table source content tabs for each fact table to the corresponding levels.
I thought this would be enough but i still don't get the desired result. I am not sure if this is possible with one dimension table.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Relating facts to different levels of a dimention

I need to relate a fact to optionally different levels of a hierarchy in a dimension
that's sales plan may be put on the level of a salesman or a distributor or a channel and so on ...
I think that it could be implemented by adding a dummy record in a each level that represent the parent .. but i don't konw how to add this dummy record in owb ...

Hi Shaimaa,
this is actually a very difficult business question. Technically, it's straightforward.
The easy part is to create one fact table per dimension level where you have a plan. So, you would have a SalesPersonPlanFact, a SalesManagerPlanFact, and so on. That will work technically . . .
But it won't really work. :-(
The reason is that the way these plans are created. Typically, the Boss and his guys work out a master plan. Then it gets broken into bits, and each department does their own sub-plan. All the way down, until it gets to individual sales plans. And at every step of the way, the plan gets tweaked, modified, 'special cases' put in.
The result is that they never add up. How you resolve that is a business issue, not a technical one.
Me? What I do is tell people that they won't add up, and then say that it doesn't matter anyway. The reason I give is that the purpose of the plan is to measure actual sales performance against plan, and that we can do. Sales take place at the most atomic level for which there is a plan, and these we can match and consolidate plan against actuals. The consolidated results are then MVed and thus present a high-performance single picture of 'the truth'.
Realistically, you're building a second-level snapshot (could be aggregated, could be periodic, could be both), and that's your reporting structure.
I suspect you may need to go and have a re-think about your value chain, and do much communication with your sponsors so that they understand what's achievable and of real worth to the business. After all, your business as a data warehouse architect is to ensure you're publishing the right data.
