  • Three SCAN listeners on 2-node 11gR2 RAC

    Hi there
A colleague of mine has configured a 2-node 11gR2 RAC. I got a chance to explore a bit. I noticed that there are total of three SCAN listeners. Out of the three SCAN2 is on one node and SCAN1 and SCAN3 are on the other node.
I stoped SCAN listeners (using srvctl) and then started them. I found them running the same nodes as they were before. Looks like clusterware somehow keeps track of which SCAN listener is running on which node.
I have few of questions regarding SCAN listener:
Q1: How did Oracle/Clusterware decided to run the SCAN listeners in this configuration (SCAN2 on one node and SCAN1/3 on the other).
Q2: Where does clusterware stores this infomation?
Q3: What if this was a four-node cluster? Would we need to have the SCAN mapped to four-IPs (so that each node has its own SCAN listener)?
Q4: What is the role of the usual standard tns-listener in this 11gR2 RAC environment (because I think it is the SCAN listener that listens for the client's connection requests, right?). Is it redundant ?
Q5: Is it correct to assume that "clusterware somehow keeps track of which SCAN listener is running on which node."?

I have few of questions regarding SCAN listener:
Q1: How did Oracle/Clusterware decided to run the SCAN listeners in this configuration (SCAN2 on one node and SCAN1/3 on the other). Oracle clusterware is by default designed to restore the previous state of resource. SCAN vip and its associated scna listener are paired, so when scan VIP failsover to other node so does scna listener to same node.
You might have got this configuration after rebooting the nodes which is expected.
Q2: Where does clusterware stores this infomation?OLR(oracle local registry) and OCR
Q3: What if this was a four-node cluster? Would we need to have the SCAN mapped to four-IPs (so that each node has its own SCAN listener)?Oracle recommends to configure max 3 scan VIPS not matter if you have 2 or 10 node cluster. Always configure 3 scan ip for high availability
Q4: What is the role of the usual standard tns-listener in this 11gR2 RAC environment (because I think it is the SCAN listener that listens for the client's connection requests, right?). Is it redundant ?SCAN Listener handsover the connection to node listener(local listener) which then connects to database. If local listener is stopped, you cannot connect to database instance running in that node.
Q5: Is it correct to assume that "clusterware somehow keeps track of which SCAN listener is running on which node."?AFAIK oracle keeps the runtime information in OCR and wheever failover happens OCR is updated with correct information.

  • Parent of Top node is getting added as Orphan node

    Hi ,

    [node]
    P000000
    [relation]
    P000000|None|Total Product|True
the parent of top node P000000 which is 'None' as defined in System preferences , is getting added as an Orphan node. We dont want any orphan node to be created.
Can someone please help in avoiding this.
Thanks for the help in advance!!
    Edited by: user10979332 on Jun 26, 2011 9:16 PM

    Hello
Try to exclude the [relation] section:
    [hier]
    Product|P000000
    [node]
    P000000|Total Product|True
This will allow you to create the Hierarchy with TopNode and to fill the attributes of TopNode.

  • Error when adding a new node to RAC 10g

    Hi all,
I have a RAC 10g environment test in Linux Red Hat Umbreakble 5 with two nodes. This RAC is fine on 2 nodes.
I want to add a new node (rac3) of the following way:
    - The node 1 (rac1) is started and the instance ORCL1 is online.
    - The node 2 (rac2) is offline. i.e the machine is off.
    - The node 3 (rac3). The machine is on and already configured
So that when I execute the CRS_home\oui\bin\addnode.bat on node 1 and put the information of node 3 (Public node name, Private node name, Virtual host name) and press next I get the following message:
    OUI-35000: Fatal cluster error encountered (PRKC-1071 Nodes rac2 did not respond to ping in 30 seconds) - Sure: The machine is off;
My question is: Can´t I add a new node on RAC if a node is off ?
    Anybody can help me.
    Thanks.
    (Wander Brazil)

    Interesting question.
You might have better luck getting an answer if you ask where people discuss RAC, instead of asking where people report documentation issues. (Go to http://forums.oracle.com and scroll down to 'Grid Computing' to see RAC forums.)

    (i masked the hostname)

No, this is not correct.  Your resource should be online on both nodes.
What happens if you try and start the resource manually using srvctl start filesystem?
Have you checked to see if your volume is online?

  • Lmtpd problems on one volume, not on another...

Bit of an odd one here, not the end of the world because mail services are working, but to do so I have to move things around...
Basic problem is, I have a server with two identical RAIDs attached, one called Bitstream, the other called Linotype. The mailstore and database were in a folder called mail on Linotype. So:
    /Volumes/Linotype/mail/database
    /Volumes/Linotype/mail/mailstore
That was all working fine, and then I had a crash and suddenly that stopped working and I was getting these errors in the logs:
status=deferred (temporary failure. Command output: couldn't connect to lmtpd: Connection refused_ 421 4.3.0 deliver: couldn't connect to lmtpd_ )
Tried the normal steps of rebuilding the database, checking permissions, going back to backups etc. Nothing seemed to work, so I decided I'd try a fresh place to store things, so setup new folders on the Bitstream volume. These worked straight away, and what's more is that if I stopped mail, copied the folders from Linotype onto Bitstream, they worked straight away. If I copied them back onto Linotype, I got the lmtpd problem again.
So basically they're currently setup as:
    /Volumes/Bitstream/mail/database
    /Volumes/Bitstream/mail/mailstore
with copies of the folders from Linotype, and it works fine As soon as I move them back onto Linotype the lmtpd error comes back up. Permissions look identical on the two volumes. Like I said it's not the end of the world as I'll just use Bitstream, but I would be grateful if anyone could think of what could cause that behaviour as it is bugging me.
    All running on 10.5.5.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. File system on the two RAIDs is HFS+. There are ACLs on the drive that's causing problems but they haven't been changed for weeks (and it was working during that time). Only thing that I can think is that the Mail service has only been freaked out when it's restarted and noticed the ACLs, is it the existence of ACLs at all that causes the problem (and not what permissions the ACLs grant)?

  • Query to Identify Data in One Table Not In Another Table

I need to create a query that will return the records in one table that are not in another table.  Here is the structure of my data tables:
tbl_Practice – contains information about management practices.  The primary key field is “ID” which is an autonumber field.
tbl_Controls – contains information about internal controls associated with the management practices.  The primary key is “ID” which is an autonumber.
tbl_PracticeJoin – this is a table that contains the mapping of controls to practices.  Some practices can have multiple controls assigned to them and some controls can be mapped to multiple practices.
This table’s primary key is “ID” which is an autonumber field.  The only other data included in this table are the primary keys of the practice and control.  Those field names are “PracticeIDFK” and “ControlIDFK”.
In this application, the user will normally enter practices and controls at the same time; however, there may be instances where a control is entered and it is not known at that time what practice(s) it should
be mapped to.  I want to be able to run a query that will show me any controls that are in the tbl_Controls which are not in tbl_PracticeJoin.  I would like to be able to do the same with the practice table.
    Thanks.

The easiest way to do this is through the 'Find Unmatched Query Wizard'.
On the Create tab of the ribbon, click Query Wizard.
    Select 'Find Unmatched Query Wizard'.
    Click OK.
Select tbl_Controls, then click Next >.
Select tbl_PracticeJoin, then click Next >.
Select ID in tbl_Controls and ControlIDFK in tbl_PracticeJoin (if the wizard hasn't already done so automatically), then click Next >.
Add the fields from tbl_Controls that you want to see to the list on the right; click >> if you want to add them all at once. Then click Next >.
Access proposes a name for the query; you can edit the name if you wish.
    Click Finish.
You can do the same for tbl_Practice and tbl_PracticeJoin, with PracticeIDFK instead of ControlIDFK.

  • Rac One Node on Rac Servers

    Hi Xperts
    We have this environment:
2 Rac Nodes 11.2.0.3 Enterprise on Oracle Linux 5.9 .
We have one production Database on this Rac and the users ask to create two single instance on each node, something like this:
    Node1 -> Rac Prod1,  Single Test
    Node2-> Rac Prod2,  Single Dev
I want to create Rac One node for those Database (Dev, Test) and create New Diskgroups for ech database.
Can I install a Rac One node on those Server  with DBCA?
Do I nedd to Install new Database Software ?
Does the installed Rac have some affectation ?
I just want to be sure about this procedure, before to do anything.
    Thank you
    J.A.

    Hi J.A.
Yes you can! However you need to install Grid Infrastructure (GI) in cluster on both nodes, then install database software. Either during software installation or after that, DBCA would allow you to create 1) Single instance, 2) RAC database, 3) RAC One Node database. Keep in mind that RAC One Node is an option (additional license) to the Enterprise Edition of Oracle Database.
I've talked on that topic at the Bulgarian Oracle Users Group at 2011, here is the link to the presentation, you may find it useful. I might upload the videos as well if you need to have something like a proof of concept of just for your own:
    http://sve.to/download/1112/
Also I would go with one disk group for both databases, as long as they share the same physical disks I don't see the point of doing that ? Having one diskgroup would allow you to utilize better you disk/space resources.
    The procedure would be:
    1. Install GI in cluster.
    2. Install software libraries.
    3. Patch up to 11.2.0.4.
    4. Create RAC One Node database using either command line or using Custom Template of DBCA.
At the end of the day, if you have standard edition license you can still install GI in cluster and create single instance databases on each server. The downside of doing that is that you need to manually failover the database to remaining node in case of disaster.

    Sve

  • Oracle Binary Currepted in One node 11g RAC

    Hi Team,
/oracle(Oracle Home ) folder currepted in one node.
    IBM AIX-11.2.0.1
    How to reolve the same.
    Thanks
    Manohar.

    1. take the backup of current oracle_home corrupted.
    2. Tar the other node oracle_home as below, and copy it to the corrupted node.
tar cvf location <tarname>.tar oraInventory product
    3. Extracted the tar on the corrupted node by delting the existing corrupted oracle_home
    tar xvf /location/<name>.tar
Now, complete the Oracle RDBMS Cloning Process of the above mentioned untar done in earlier steps:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/clone/bin
    Perl clone.pl ORACLE_HOME="<LOCATION>" ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraDb10g_home1"

  • Adding ocrmirror and voting disk on another diskgroup 11gr2 RAC

    Hi Gurus,
Can i add ocrmirror on another diskgroup(external redundancy) and voting disk(normal) on anotherdiskgroup (replace) in 11gr2 RAC while databases are up and running?

    Hi
in Oracle 11gr2 voting disk are backed up automatically in the ocr part of any configuration change
Voting disk is automatically restored to any added voting disk
You can migrate voting fıska from non asm to asm without
    Taking download cluster
To add a voting disk to asm
    Crsctl replace votedisk +diskgroup
    Ocrconfig -add +datagroup2
Oracle manage up to five redundant ocr locations
    Hope this helps

    Thoughts?
We're comparing the converted/migrated workspaces from each machine. the workspace only has one entity/one view/one app module, and a servlet with two user defined exceptions and an error page.

For 1 of the 15 times I tried to open the workspace it opened and compiled ok.
Then, I got the second error anyway. However, the second error was resolved by UNDOING a change that I did to the \jdev1013\ord\jlib folder. I don't understand why the files in that folder are so "dated":

    Here was that code:
// worked in 10.1.2 with 10.1.2 JDBC drivers.
// Error(78,56): method getORADataFactory() not found in class oracle.ord.im.OrdDoc
                  // OrdDoc pdf = (OrdDoc) rset.getORAData(1, OrdDoc.getORADataFactory());
                  // copied 10.1.2.1 ord jars into: C:\jdev1013\ord\jlib
// ok in 10.1.2 and if jars copied in
                  ORADataFactory ordDocFactory = null;
                  ordDocFactory = (ORADataFactory) OrdDoc.getORADataFactory();
// now what do I do in 10.1.3 for interMedia??
