ODBC from ABAP

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this.
I want to run ODBC form ABAP to a remote database, and pull data into custom tables in SAP / BW. Can I do this WITHOUT using DBConnect (which doesn't support the DB I'm trying to access)?
I've been looking at the SQL API classes - are these the ones I need to use?
Anybody got any experience of this?

I've looked extensively into this. Unless the DB you are trying to connect to is in the list of DB's which SAP is able to connect to using DB Connect you have to find another way.
One other way is to use UDC which need a jdbc client side driver and jdbc on the server side. As the system I'm dealing with is very much a leagacy system I can't persuade the owners to install jdbc.
Instead I have written an abap that maps the DB data I'm interested in to some BW staging tables which I've created. I now generate sql extract scripts from BW, post them to the target DB and execute them, transfer the extract files and parse the data into the staging tables. This is working well but has been a lot harder than having a nice jdbc / UDConnect setup.
In conclusion - investigate the UDC solution - this is by far the best and most open one. If you can't do that you will have to resort to local extracts, data transfers or opening datasets on a share.

SELECT on TIMESTAMP field from ABAP with EXEC SQL

I'm trying to get a field of one table which is defined as TIMESTAMP. MaxDB parameter DATE_TIME_FORMAT is set to INTERNAL. When I do the SELECT in SQL Studio I get ISO format 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.MMMMMM' back. So I tried a SELECT with ISO in WHERE clause, but I'm always getting a shortdump with this error:
Database error text........: "POS(82) Invalid date input value"
Database error code........: "-3065"
Then I did a SELECT without a WHERE clause in ABAP and got value '06-FEB-09' back from this field. So I tried with this ABAP statement and got no shortdump, but I also need to add time and not only the date.
EXEC SQL.
SELECT recv_time INTO :l_time FROM ztest WHERE sent_recv_time = '06-FEB-09'
ENDEXEC.
I'm using Native SQL because the SELECT is on a table which is not located in SAP Schema User. "SELECT recv_time FROM ztest WHERE recv_time = '2009-02-24 10:02:55.888000'" works in SQL studio, but not from ABAP.
Does anyone know which format I need to specify in the WHERE clause?

I am new to XML and I am not familiar with JAVA or Web Service. I have searched in SDN and googled for a sample program for creating XML document from ABAP with SOAP details. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything.
I have a requirement for creating an XML file from ABAP with SOAP details. I have the data in the internal table. There is a Schema which the client provided and the file generated from SAP should be validating against that Schema. Schema contains SOAP details like Envelope, Header & Body.
My question is can I generate the XML file using CALL TRANSFORMATION in SAP with the SOAP details?
I have tried to create Transformation (Transaction XSLT_TOOL) in SAP with below code. Also in CALL transformation I am not able to change the encoding to UTF-8. It's always show UTF-16.

SOFM: Dsiplay method is not working when called from ABAP Webdynpro

Hi All,
I want to open an attachment from ABAP Webdynpro.
I have approached in this fashion:
1) Get the attachments as SOFM object key
2) On Click of a link on Webdynpro, I am calling a function module within which I am creating an instance of the SOFM object
3) Then I am calling the DISPLAY method
It is not opening.
But, if it opens when I driectly execute the function module. It open when I directly test the business object.
Any Idea ?

Display Method uses the Dialogue Module, You should not access such methods in web dynpro which are SAPGUI specific.
Web Dynpro Applications are run in Browser environment which cannot understand Dialog, it can understand only HTML.
Read the attachments and get the content and use FileDownload UI element to show it to user.

i am using netscape.exe , its printing first time and when reprint its not working
basically html file contains gif file which has fedex barcode.

How move file with space in the name to another foler on Linux from ABAP?

Hi experts,
My requirement is to move the file on Linux to another folder via ABAP program.
IN SM49 is defined ZMOVE command for "mv" operating system command. In ABAP, fm:
SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE calls ZMOVE external command to move the file to another folder.
But in case that file has space in the file name, then the fm gives error and the file can not be moved.
I have tried as given in the Note 1152084 - Parameter for external commands but it doesn't work.
Don't know if the reason is that the note is for Windows or Unix and we have Linux.
So, I have tried with ''%file name%' and '''file name'''.
PLease advice hoe to move file on Linux to another folder from ABAP program if the file has spec in the name.

You need to use the function module RRMS_MESSAGE_HANDLING to post any kind of messages in the report output/web template or portal.
You can pass the values trough the below parameters:
              I_CLASS = 'ZBW'
              I_TYPE   = 'W'
              I_NUMBER = '006'

Scheduling a Business Objects 4.0 Webi from Abap

Is there a way to pass in prompts and schedule a Webi report in Business Objects 4.0 from Abap? We have a situation where we want to email out a webi report to each of our sales reps with their particular sales information based on salesid.
Right now we would have to create and maintain about 250 individual scheduled jobs in Business Objects and that is a maintenance nightmare so I was wondering if we could use our scheduler in our ERP6.0 environment and write an Abap program to pass in the parameters needed to schedule the job in BOBJ.
For example, every Monday the Abap job would run and collect all salesmen info including salesid and email address and would then use that info to send the info to BOBJ to schedule and run the reports one time.
Hopefully what I am wanting is clear.

You need to STOP the Adaptive Job Server, this will STOP all scheduling jobs.
