OER running inside VirtualBox

All
I was wondering if anybody has some suggestions here, my problem is as follows
1 - Installed Oracle Enterprise Repository into a OEL 5.6 32 bit Virtual Box VM, using Oracle Xe 10.2 as the Db, all on the same VBox image
2 - Runs fine and can access both the Admin Server (localhost:7001/) and OER (localhost:7101) pages from INSIDE the VBox vm
3 - However, I cannot access the OER page (:7101) from OUTSIDE the VBox Vm
4 - Using bridged network adaptor, I cannot access OER console (eg http://192.168.1.100:7101/oer) from OUTSIDE
5 - NAtted shows the same behavior (if I port forward from 10101 - host to 7101 - guest), ie, WL admin is fine, but OER is not ??
Physical install outside a VM is fine
Are there some other ports I need to know about that are needed ??
my hostname of the VM is localhost.localdomain
Update: 30th Sept 2011
I have virtual box 4.10
The 7001 port is always available outside the VM
The 7101 port is available outside the VM (wrote a small sockClient/sockServer ) and my sockClient (remote machine,eg 192.168.1.6 : 7101) can
connect no problems to the VM (runing sockServer on port 7101) when OER is not running.
And my sockClient can connect to the WLS Admin port (192.168.1.39:7001 on the VBox VM) when WLS Admin is running no prob,
but it cannot connect to the OER port (192.168.1.39:7101) when OER is running, this is really weird
tcpdump on the VBoxVM shows that the socket conn request is definately getting to the machine and netstat shows that the 7101 is
in LISTEN state
thanks

  • Sometimes a plugin-container.exe instance starts hogging a ton of memory -- I would like to know which plugin is running inside that plugin-container without having to one-by-one disable the plugins. Which process called plugin-container.exe?

As described above, I have several instances of plugin-container.exe running, which is OK. It would make me feel safer to know which plugins are running inside each of these, since I would be better able to know whether there is malware running inside one of them, or which website might have made the process start hogging memory.
I am a power user, I usually have 80-100 tabs open, and of course it is hard to track the website or plugin down without having to waste a lot of time.
Could you provide in future releases this information?
Is it already available under one of the about: pages (e.g. config, plugins, memory, etc?)

    Thanks Efreak! <br><br>
Maybe I was not clear. I usually have 4-5 plugin-container.exe processes running. I know now that the large one that hogs is the Adobe Flash player, but, for example I don't know which plug-in initiated the other plugin-container.exe instances.<br><br>
One of them actually says "googletalkplugin.exe" if you dig deep, which is OK. At least I know why the plugin-container.exe was started. But there are other instances that are just there and there is no way to figure out which plug-in initiated it.<br><br>
This would of course also help figure out if it is really the Adobe Flash plug in that is hogging all the memory, OR even if within Firefox in the about: pages one could figure out which TABS are using which plug-ins.
Like that you could freely choose to terminate the process directly, or close the TAB.<br><br>
    1) What I am looking for is a way to determine which plug-in is running under which instance of plugin-container.exe<br>
    2) Additionally it would be great to have a summary of which TABS are using which plugins (e.g. in the about:plugins page or yet another about: page)

  • Does TM backup files stored in Windows 7 running inside VMWare Fusion?

I have installed VMWare Fusion with Windows 7 running inside it. There are a number of files saved and application installed there. Are these being backed up on the Time Capsule during the regular backups or do I need to back up Windows apps and files separately?

If the virtual machine is on a drive that Time Machine backs up, it'll be backed up. Quit the emulator before Time Machine runs to ensure the backup is valid; click here for more information.

  • Hyper V Cannot be installed as Hypervisor is already running inside windows 8.1 ( which is a VM inside a windows 8 hyper v manager)

    Hi,
Although it is not concerned with windows server. Please help with this issue.
I Installed windows 8.1 OS inside Windows 8 using hyper V manager.
Then i installed visual studio 2013 update and i tried to run windows phone 8.1 emulator.
It said, one of the hyper v components is not working correctly. So, i disabled and enabled hyper v features using "Turn of windows features on or off" settings.
But this time "Hyper V platform feature was installed"
When i hover my mouse over that it said "Hyper V cannot be installed: hypervisor is already running"
    Please help me.

Windows phone emulators are virtual machines. So if you installed visual studio to the virtual machine nothing can be done. Hyper-v cant be run inside of virtual machine.

  • Remote debug a Flash file running inside an application

    Hello everyone.
I'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows:
I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.
I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.
When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).
    Environment Details:
The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object.
The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5.
The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4.
I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).
Any bits of information will be much appreciated!
    M.A. Hanin

I'm not sure how to do specifically what you are looking for (if possible at all.....)
But, I recommend checking out deMonsterDebugger.  It is an AIR application with some classes for use.  You simply import the classes into your Flash project, instantiate a debugger object, and then compile.
If you open the AIR application when the SWF is running (locally, in a browser, and I imagine in another application) the AIR application serves as a debugging engine, similar to the in-Flash debugging.
There is a bit more to it than that, but I think that this is your best bet for what you are looking for.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman is very slow inside VirtualBox

Hello everyone, I've used Arch Linux for a while now and I never had any serious issue. I've been testing Arch inside VirtualBox recently and it installs fine and all that but when I try to update the system, updating repos is very slow, once the repos are up-to-date, pacman offers the latest packages to download very fast and waits for me to press 'y'. Once I do press 'y', it downloads the packages very slow.
I have a 15 Mbps connection (goes up to 30
    Mbps when bandwidth os available).
I'm using a mirror close to
My state NY (rit, umoss, vt, or even gatech).
The /etc/rc.conf and /etc/hosts have the same hostname.
I've tried to test in VMware server but there was a problem with vmware. Fedora 13 also updates really slow as well. Debian and Ubuntu don't have a problem.
I have Arch on my flash drive and I booted it up on my machine and pacman works much faster when not inside the VM. The weird thing is that when I was using and older version of VirtualBox, everything was working great, which makes me think that it's a Virtualbox but.. but then why is Debian working fine but Fedora and Arch slow?
    Any suggestions?

Alright, since no one has posted, I'm going to assume no one knows how to fix this yet.
I've been messing around for the last couple of days, and I was looking into the network options that VirtualBox has.
    From all the options:
    NAT
    Bridged Networking
    Internal Networking
    Host-Only Networking
NAT and Bridged Networking seem to make the most sense, but the problem was that NAT requests a new IP from the router and uses it's own driver to do the networking, I saw this as that the VirtualBox NAT driver might be messing up how the traffic flows (including the speed) in Arch Linux and possibly in Linux in general.
For Bridged Networking, the VM uses the physical adapter of the host, and that shot me right away. I told myself, why use an intermediate driver to communicate with the router if I can use the physical adapter directly and pull information faster. At the point my statement was theoretical, but once I booted up Arch Linux and tried it... the slowness was gone. Pacman now updates repos and downloads packages much faster. Fedora 13 in the VM also works much faster as well, not only for updating repos and downloading packages, but also for web browsing within the VM.
I think that there might either be a bug or performance issue that's affecting the NAT driver in VirtualBox version 3.2.8 r64453, because you do recall I said that I was using the NAT driver in an older version of VirtualBox and it wasn't slow.
I hope this can help someone in the future.
EDIT: Check this page about Networking options in VirtualBox and what they do:

  • Issue with cscript/wscript breaking outside the AppV 5 bubble when run inside the bubble.

I'm working on sequencing an application (EPIC) and they have a debugging script that runs that executes their application and their debugging application immediately afterwards with some parameters.  When I try running this script inside the AppV 5
bubble from a command prompt it fails.  I've found the issue appears to be that cscript and wscript are looking for the registry values it requires
outside the bubble.  I've shortened their script and the registry key required to minimize the noise of this problem.  The VBS script is:
    '========================================================
Dim sEpicInstall, oCtx, oFSO, oReg, oLocator, oServices, oInstallDrive
    Const HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE = &H80000002
    Set oCtx = CreateObject("WbemScripting.SWbemNamedValueSet")
    Call oCtx.Add("__ProviderArchitecture", 32)
    Call oCtx.Add("__RequiredArchitecture", TRUE)
    Set oLocator = CreateObject("Wbemscripting.SWbemLocator")
    Set oServices = oLocator.ConnectServer(".","root\default", , , , , , oCtx)
    Set oReg = oServices.Get("StdRegProv")
    Call oReg.GetStringValue(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, "SOFTWARE\Epic Systems Corporation\Install", "79", sEpicInstall)
    Set oFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set oInstallDrive = oFSO.GetDrive(oFSO.GetDriveName(sEpicInstall))
    '===========================================================
The registry key that exists inside the bubble looks like so:
    ===========================================================
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Epic Systems Corporation\Install]
    "79"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Epic\\v7.9"
    ===========================================================
if run inside the bubble this is the result I get:
If I add the registry key to the system itself and execute the command outside the bubble it works without issue:
So...  I'm assuming this is a bug in AppV 5?  Is there a reason why cscript/wscript can break outside the environment or is there a reason why this script is able to do so?

You should probably start a new thread for this as it's a new question, and a different problem than the original post.
I have not tried the above, but have you made sure IE is closed before running it? If IE is already running outside of the bubble when you run the script, it could use the existing IE process rather than create a new one inside the bubble.
As far as I know, .vbs files should run inside the bubble unlike cmd/bat files when targeted directly by the shortcut. But it is worth trying modifying the shortcut to point to wscript.exe with the script supplied as a parameter, just to rule it out.
Another option to look into is to target your shortcut to iexplore.exe directly, and apply the changes to hide the toolbar and status bar either via additional command line parameters, or via registry configuration if this is possible.

  • How to develop pages that will be run inside Jdev11

Hi, I am using Jdev11 and ADF BC. We have some requirement to develop some Admin UIs which will be run inside Jdev11, I am wondering if it's possible to do. Is there any documents/examples on how to do it?
    Thanks!

If I understand you correctly you are trying to build some interface in JDeveloper that will let you manipulate the definitions of ADF BC objects.
Now the main question is whether you want to do the customization at runtime or design time.
If you want to do it in design time - then the extension will manipulate the ADF BC XML definition files and then when you package the application it will be deployed to the server with your customization.
If you want to do runtime customization then the answer is the MDS layer that we are going to introduce in release 11. This repository gives you API to change runtime customizations.
MDS is not part of the public technology preview yet.
If you are an Oracle Employee you might want to talk with the MDS product managers to get more information about the APIs they offer.

  • Can I mount a Windows hard drive to run in Virtualbox?

So my sister's girlfriend had a Dell laptop that had it's motherboard nuked from a power surge.  She got a new computer, but wants data that can only be exported from running programs (i.e. a library that integrated into a cabinet file).  I am running 10.7.2 and have used Virtualbox to test programs in a virtual XP machine running within OSX.  I wanted to know if it was possible to mount the hard drive from the dead computer and run a virtual machine using said drive.
Basically, I want to set up a virtual machine within OSX that would use the Dell hard drive and mimic her old Dell.  The purpose is to export libraries by running programs within the installation.  Can anybody help with this?  Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

This might work, but I suspect that you will have many more problems due to hardware drivers on the Dell HD.  The OS installed there will be looking for specific hardware, and almost guaranteed the Virtual Box emulated hardware won't be the same, and most likely it will be different enough to prevent the Dell Windows installation from booting.  Now, If you can use the Parallels Transporter, or the VMWare equivalent, I believe that they take care of stripping the hardware specific drivers when they create a virtual machine, but I don't know if Virtual Box has such a tool.

  • Plugins that i know are compatible in version 7.0.1 are reporting as not compatible when i try and install then in the same version running inside of VMware.

    Greetings ..
I am trying to run Firefox inside of VMware Workstation V8 in Widows 7 and Fusion V4 in Mac OS X 10.7.2.
I first tried to restore a working profile backup of Firefox made with FEBE in windows inside of VMWARE, when I load Firefox more that half of the plugins that were working in Windows and OS X natively, are reporting as not compatible with this (V7.0.1) Firefox and will not update to a working version, as in many cases they are the latest version anyway.
Also it is inconsistent, as i have tried several times to install Firefox and restore the profile and each time it is not all the same plugins that are disabled and reporting as incompatible.
I have also tried to do a clean install of Firefox and going to the website and installing the plugins directly, and while i have not tried all of the disabled plugins, I am unable to install plugins that i am currently using in the same version of Firefox outside of VMware that are working and or can be installed when I am not running Firefox inside of VMware.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • When installing Firefox 35 into Windows 7 running inside VMware Fusion on a Mac, into which folder should I put the downloaded Firefox installer file?

Inside Windows I see a folder called PROGRAM FILES and another one called PROGRAM FILES (X86). Is either of these the correct one to put the Firefox installer program into before I launch the installer? There is also a folder called WINDOWS. Sorry for such an elementary question but I've never been a Windows user; just Macs so far until now. My intention is to download the Windows version of Firefox using a browser on the Mac side of the computer since I have working browsers there. Then I would copy the ".exe" file to whichever Windows folder is correct. Am I on the right track or am I courting disaster?
Also, will there be a preference inside Firefox to make it the default browser in the Windows environment? I'd like to avoid using Internet Explorer.
( I'm writing this from the Firefox browser, v. 28.0 in the Mac OS (10.6.8). I didn't click the "Automatically Add" button for submitting troubleshooting information because I'm not asking about the browser in the Mac OS environment.)
    Thank you.

The full Windows install file from for instance https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ is an executable dot.exe file.
It will run from anywhere the user has the correct permissions, incluing the desktop or the downloads folder. It will offer standard or custom installs, usually opt for the standard install and the necessary flies and folders will be created.
