I'm trying to help out a friend and make an animation of a monster chewing - is there anyone who knows where I might find a visual reference of this type of thing?
I can usually draw okay, but this one is a stumper creatively for me.

Illustrator is not an animation program. But you can build indiidual graphics in Illustrator and then use those graphics as the basis for "frames" in a frame-by-frame animated format such as SWF (Flash) or animated GIF.
This page displays a simple SWF animation in which a lizzard marches in from the left, licks his lips, and winks. You can replay it by clicking the reload button in your browser. After marching in, the lizard continues to wag his tail, and licks his lips and winks at random intervals.
Below the graphic is a link (Construction Notes) to a PDF which describes the general process of building the animation in Illustrator, leveraging such features as Brushes and Blends.
The different timing of the elements (march, wink, lick, wag) exemplifies the need to work with more than just Illustrator (in this case, Illustrator and Flash) if you intend to build anything beyond the most basic and linear animations. All of the artwork elements were drawn in Illustrator. But the entire animation is an assembly of several "sub animations" (MovieClips in Flash). The timing of the animations (march-in occuring only once; wag repeating continuously; wink and lick repeating randomly) is controlled by script (FlashScript).
The result is a very small animation file, still all vector, and infinitely scaleable. My point is: Expecting to use Illustrator alone for creating finished animations is very very limited, and not likely to yield very bandwidth-efficient animations.
Your example (a chewing monster) is a similar kind of project. Using Illustrator alone, you could create a frame-by-frame animated file (SWF or GIF) which either plays once, or loops continuously. That's pretty boring. Adding interest beyond continual looping will involve more than just Illustrator. For example, an animation of a chewing monster would be more interesting if the figure displayed some minor differences and timing irregularities (exact mouth shape, expression, winking, eyes moving) during and between individual bites, as opposed to simply having his jaw move up and down repeatedly in Pac-Man/clockwork fashion.

A new mailbox/folder - you can't, not yet. If you're using an IMAP mail account, you can create a mailbox on the server (either through webmail or desktop mail) and it'll appear on the iPad.
We've been told the upcoming iOS5 will allow you to do so (I assume, provided you have IMAP).

How can I create transparent animated text with Motion and Final Cut Pro?

Hi all,
I am trying to replicate an effect that a previous video editor did in a project, but I can't contact them.
They made animated text in Live Type, and saved it as a QT movie. When this text is placed over existing video in the FCP project, the text is "transparent", basically it acts like text created in FCP (You can see the background image behind the text, like through the middle of the letter "o").
I have made some animated text in Motion, but when I save it as a QT movie, and bring it into FCP, the whole 1280x720 screen is covered by this movie, and I have to crop it so it does not cover the background image. It is all black except for the text. And of course the text is not on a transparent layer. Any ideas how I can create this effect with animated text? I've tried messing with transparency and overlay settings, nothing seems to work.

Just bring the Motion (.motn) project into FCP and lay it over your clip.
The QT you're exporting has to carry the alpha channel (animation codec, million+ colors), but don't waste your time/disk space with that. Just bring the motion project into FCP.

In the Edit workspace, place the images you want to appear in each frame of the animation on separate layers of the Layers panel. For example, to create an animation of an eye blinking, you would place an image of the open eye on one layer, and an image of the closed eye on another layer.
Choose File > Save for Web.Note: If your image has multiple layers, you can also open the Save For Web dialog box from the Save As dialog box by choosing CompuServe GIF Format and selecting Layers As Frames.
Optimize the image in GIF format.
Select Animate.
Set additional options in the Animation section of the dialog box:
Loop Continuously repeats the animation in a web browser.

But how do I create a new iTunes backup password without knowing the previous one?

In case anyone keeps track of such things, I'm among those folks who really doesn't recall ever being asked to create an iTunes backup password, but that's irrelevant to my question.
I'm not in any bind. I don't need my backup files to restore anything. I will shed no tears as they are moved to the Recycle Bin (indeed, I will gladly do the deed myself).
That said, it appears impossible to create a new backup password without knowing the previous one.
If the only "solution" is to wipe my iPhone's memory and start from scratch, I will be a sad camper.
Any help? Are backups to iCloud encrypted?

Additionally:
Be super critical & meticulous (and whatever other synonym I missed) when you get a new password:
Write it onto your bedroom wall, or someplace off of a computer that you will always find.
If you active 2-step verification, the key is VERY important. Lose it & you may be toast.
If you don’t 2 step verify, & use the Security Question instead --> do not lose, or forget the answers.
Very nearly the same outcome!!!!!: Bad experience.
If you add a 2nd email address, make sure its a RESCUE address not just an alternate address.
If you lose these, you lose access to your 3rd party purchases via Appstore for future upgrade. That will make you VEWY, VEWY UNHAPPY. Apple new OS versions do update, but add a new device & likely you will be unable to use your content on that device. It will never load if the ID locks up.

towards the begining. A partial circle starts (a lens-flare

How do I create an animated gif?

I have the CS4 Master Collection and am not sure what to use to make them. I used to make them in ImageReady 7.0 by just dropping the images into a folder and then importing as slices or something like that, it has been awhile. Then I would adjust the time and save/export them and done.
Can anyone tell me what to use? Otherwise, I have to pull out the old PC and see if it still runs and make it there but, I really need to learn how to do it in CS4.

If you have the master Collection I would say the very best place would be Adobe After Effects then I would say a more familiar way.
But I believe you made an image sequence and placed that into Imageready which you can in Photoshop as well.
But it might be nice if you explain what the nature of the animated gif is comprised of and what it does.

You import the images. You put them on multiple layers, stacked on top of each other. JPEG is not a good format. Use PNG or Photoshop or TIFF.
Layers are transparent. Put whatever background you want on the base layer.

How do you create an animated GIF in Premiere Pro?

I tried using Premier Pro to edit an animated GIF, but apparently that feature is no longer available? Is there another program that will work? Help Please....

So, Kevin ... question to Adobe ... considering the ability to export a .gif is pretty important (.gif is one of the most popular formats on the planet), is Adobe willing to allow us Mac users to activate Premiere Pro on a 3rd (Windows) computer? I have an iMac (primary work computer), a MacBook Pro (my mobile backup) with Premiere installed. Now, because Premiere Pro on Mac does not support .gif, I have to have a 3rd computer (Windows). An unfortunate reality.
What can Adobe do for us users?

How do i create an animation with one frame for each layer?

I have 76 sequential images that i've loaded as layers using bridge, then aligned using photoshop.
I would now like to create a 76 frame animation with one animation frame for each layer
(the layers are in sequential order).
is there an easy way to do this
or do i have to create 76 frames (can duplicate multiple to speed it up)
then set layer visibility for each frame?

How do I create an animation from stills (100's of stills!)

I have a load of still images that I want to make a straightforward animation from. Current I have to for each frame:
click still image to get it in the 'viewer'
select duration box and enter 1 frame
Drag from viewer to canvas 'insert' box
With hundreds and by the time I have finished thousands of images this is very slow and labour intensive. Is there a simpler way to do this? I am sure in my distant memory there was a free third party program I used where you could select all the stills and it would string them together but ideally I would like to do it in FCE.

Only other points to note are;
Images are 1504 x 1000
Version 3.5 of FCE
Still on OSX 10.4

Put your stills in a folder numbered sequentially in the order in which you want them with leading zeros. Set the still import preference in the second panel of user preferences to one frame. Import the folder. Drag the folder to the timeline.
You can also open the image sequence in the QT pro player, set the frame rate you want, and convert it to a QuickTime movie.

Assume you have Flash Builder 4.5, CS Extension builder 2.0, Xcode 4.5.1 running under MacOS 10.8.

I understand why you need updated running headers in your book. To a sighted reader these serve as a guide to where you are and help you find things quickly. In addition, if you are exporting your data to XML or HTML from the tagged PDF it would also be important to have these in the proper location.
But for accessibility purposes, it doesn't have to be there because the screen reader reads everything in linear order, line by line. No one is looking at the page. A user listening to the screen reader read the page is going to hear this heading, just before the actual word itself. So they will hear the first word on the page twice. It's not the end of the world if it's there, but such headings are not necessary for accessibility unless they are not repetitive and contain information that is not otherwise available.
So I would say, fine if you need them or want them there, it's just one word.
I think you should try exporting your book to PDF (or even just a chapter of the book) and look at the tags panel in Acrobat to see if you are getting the result you want. I can't tell you exactly what you should do to get those results, you are using a plug-in I don't have.
I can tell you I didn't have to add the headers to any article at all, they just automatically export if the other articles in the file are added and you don't select the header style option "not for export as XML."
You may not experience the same results with your plug-in, but I think it will probably work the same way.

How do I create a permanent backup of all my iTunes data, and movies?

I'm confused about how to effectively backup and share my data. And know others must have wrestled with this one too - so help please!
Our family works across several platforms (PC, MacBookPro, 2 iPads, iPods, 2 iPhones and appleTV) and want to have a method to effectively share and save (i.e. permanently backup) our data (iTunes, other documents and movies). We use HomeSharing, iCloud and iTunes Match, which work most of the time. All the devices are linked to a single iTunes library.
I understand that iCloud serves to synchronise data and share it between devices. Great. But how do I create a permanent backup of the data? I could get a third party online service (e.g. Box.net) or use external harddrives. Is there a simpler approach that apple provides, that I've missed? I'd lke to make teh solution a simple to use (i.e. upload data and share it), reliable without paying the earth!

I just started with JavaFX and know about the basics (at least I thought so).
But: How do I create an application with more than one "window"?
One stage has one scene with several components like buttons - ok... I already have a stage with a scene with buttons and actions - Now I want to click one of these buttons and then get to another stage (or scene or whatever) where I see some other textfield and buttons.
How do I realize this with JavaFX? I did not find anyone example in the web? What am I missing? Do you not create this flow with JavaFX?
Please can someone explain this to me (and if possible post a link where I can some code where this is implemented)?
