Office 2013/ 365 on 2012R2 server

Hi,
I'm looking at installing Office 2013 (Volume License version) on a couple of 2012R2 RDS boxes. I'm using the Office Deployment Toolkit.
Can someone please advise if in the Outlook Profile section, we have to enter the Office 365 server name? If so, what is it? We entered the one obtained from a desktop install of Office 365 but that didn't work.
Additionally, has anyone seen any issues with running this in cached mode (given that the office 365 server is in the cloud)? I'd like to store the outlook profile in a centralized location so as to reduce the footprint on the RDS boxes and to avoid having
to download email when logging in from different RDS servers.
Thanks very much,
HA

Hi HA,
Are you referring to Office Customization Tool here? I don't see any "Outlook profile section" in Office Deployment Tool.
As far as I know, you don't have to configure this while deploying Office 2013 in a Remote Desktop Service environment. Outlook profile will be created when the user access Outlook through a remote desktop to use their mail account.
Cached Exchange Mode is supported in a RDS environment. However, in this mode, Outlook stores a local copy of each Exchange mailbox and address book on disk for each client access, which will cost additional storage space and disk I/O for multiple client
access.
So, unless you are connecting over a high latency connection to an Exchange server that is located remotely, for better scalability, we recommend that you use Online Mode with RDS for large deployments. With Online Mode, no data is stored locally.

  • Publishing office 2013 on app-v server

    Hi,
I'm trying to publish an office 2013 package that I have created using the ODT.
The technet guide (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dn817830.aspx) I am using is telling me to use this command 'Add-AppvClientPackage <Path_to_AppV_Package> | Publish-AppvClientPackage
–global'  from the client and then 'From
the Web Management Console on the App-V Server, you can add permissions to a group of computers instead of to a user group to enable packages to be published globally to the computers in the corresponding group.' from
what I can see it has worked as in I can now open word, excel etc.. but the package has not  appeared on the appv server yet to allow me to configure permissions. Before attempting the above command I tried importing the package directly into the app-v
web management console but the app-v client could not see the package although it was in the correct security group.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks

+ note that it may take several minutes (10+) before a new published package appears on the client

  • Office 2013 OneNote on Terminal Server

    Hi,
Maybe I have a strange question but is it fully supported Office 2013 OneNote on TS? We are not using standalone. I am asking because many users have problem with connection when they trying to click on that link (when you open onenote) they get error:
Unfortunately, it seems that there are occasional problems with our servers ,
but everything is working locally but not in TS.
What can it be? Should be nice with few tips.
    Best regards

    Hi Kaktak,
Sorry if this is not of much help - I don't know that it is officially supported - but it doesn't seem to work well for a lot of people.
I have tried repeatedly to get it to work, never fully successfully.  The biggest issues I have hit all seem to revolve around the service clearing its cache and deleting its print queues every time someone logs in... its a real pain!
If you do make a breakthrough, keep me posted - I'm in the same boat and will let you know if I can come up with anything.

  • Office 2013 - Templates contacting MS Server

    Dear Community,
I've installed Office 2013 Std. on one of our Windows 7 (32 bit) without Office templates. But when I start Word or Excel, the system is always asking for a username & password. This message popups, because our proxy is blocking the connection to: office15client.microsoft.com
We won't allow the access to that and what I don't understand is: we installed without templates, but Office 2013 wants to connect to the internet. Has anyone an idea how to disable that?
    Thanks for helping/discussing.

    Hi,
How did you install Office 2013 without templates?  Based on my test, only Access and Outlook have templates in the installation.
And try to uncheck File>options>trust center>trust options>privacy> "Allow office to connect to the internet" option in Excel 2013 and Word 2013 to check the issue.

  • Install Office 2013 365 on PC with limited internet?

I've just bought a 5-user perpetual licence for Office 365 ProPlus from an authorised reseller. I have an account at:
https://portal.microsoftonline.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx which worked fine for my first install.
However, one of the PCs I want to install on only has a very limited 3G internet connection: 100MB per month.
Is there a way to download the bulk of the installer on one PC and transfer to this limited PC?
    Any other suggestions?
    -- Nigel M

There are two basic ways that you can deploy Office 365 ProPlus:
    A. Have users install Office 365 ProPlus directly from the Office 365 portal.
    B. Download the Office 365 ProPlus software to your local network and then deploy it to your users.
For your case, you can choose plan B above. Download the Office 365 ProPlus on one PC that has a good internet connection and then transfer the installer to your destination PC. Then follow the guides on below articles to deploy it:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg998766(v=office.15).aspx

  • How to grant corporate accounts access to the Office store to install the Dictionary in Word 2013 (365)

We are currently migrating from Office 2010 MSI to Office 365 (2013) click to run installation deployed with Configuration Manager.  I was curious if there was a way to grant our corporate accounts access to the Office store to pull in the Dictionary
and other tools not baked into Office 2013 (365).
The only way I have been able to do this is to have a separate Microsoft account to install the Dictionary.
    Thanks,
    Brita

    Hi Brita:
With which accounts you set up your Office client, Office 365 subscribe account or your corporation account? Have you set up
directory synchronization for Office 365? Per my experience, if the directory synchronization has been set up, your corporation accounts will be associated with Office, therefore no need extra effort to install apps from Office store,
you can simply insert apps available in Office store to word in your case. If I misunderstood the situation, please let me know, thank you.
For Plan for directory synchronization for Office 365 please refer to

We have several users that cannot see the free/busy information of another user in their Outlook 2013 calendars.  Creating a new Outlook profile for the user and repairing office solves the issue for a short period of time.  Users are running Windows

I have been working with Microsoft on this issue.  The patches below are suppose to fix this issue.  We are still currently testing them.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 Windows 8 Nightmare

I installed Office 2013 365 on windows 8 and powerpoint worked but word just kept crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted the computer and the same crash was happening. I uninstalled completely including using the registry hot fix and reinstalled
and now when I try to run the Office installer it says that I need a later version of windows, at least windows 7. Again, this is on windows 8.
I am at a loss as to what to do at this stage and would appreciate any help.

How to Ask At MS Answers site:
Search for previous answers to similar question. If you have an error code or the exact text of an error message type it into the input field below the “Find Answers / Ask A Question” radio button. Then click on the drop down arrow portion of the Search
button, select “All Forums”.  Look through the candidate answers.
Also use your favorite search engine, i.e. Google or Bing etc., to search for the error code or error message text.
If nothing works for you then click on the “Ask A Question” radio button. This will become your Subject Line. Make it descriptive and interesting. One word subjects like “Help” or “Word 2010” tend to get ignored as a waste of our time. Then click the “ASK”
button.  This opens a larger input field where you can include a full description. Clearly and fully describe the steps you take to create the problem. Describe what you expect to happen and what does. You get the best answers if we can recreate
the problem.  Include the FULL and EXACT text of any error message and error code.
click on the "ask a question" radio button at the top of this page
type an interesting, descriptive question as your subject
In the body input field, describe your problem.
What you are doing to that causes a problem.
    What "error" you see.
    What you expected to see.
Full, EXACT text of any error message. Error code if there is one
Exactly what you have done to try and fix the problem. Saying "I've done everything" is wasting your time and ours ..., BE SPECIFIC!
Include pictures if you thing they will help
Include a link to a file shared (sanitized) copy of an example file
At the bottom of the page, in the drop down, pick the most relevant forum to post in
In the drop down pick the version of Office (it DOES make a difference in the instructions we provide)
In the drop down, pick the specific Office application.
At the bottom of the page, click on the blue "submit" button
When you get replies, if any provide good information, but not a full answer, you can click on the green “YES” button on the left side of the screen.
If you get an answer that provides the fix, click on the green “”MARK IT” button on the bottom right of the screen to “pay” for the reply.
If you come up with an answer of your own, based on clues provided or another source, we would appreciate it if you would do a final post with the steps to the “final solution”. That way anyone else reading the question will also have the solution. That
is the way we ‘pay’ for this free service.  “…Pay it Forward ….”
When you get an error, we Need the Full and
EXACT Error message text and error code (if there is one) as Diagnostic Clues
First rule of asking questions, you have to provide enough information about what you are doing so we can try to recreate the problem. If there is an error code generated, we need to see that
Describe the exact steps you take to create the error (so we can try to recreate it) and the resulting error. In theory that is obvious, but apparently you didn't give us enough information to provide a good answer ... <sigh>
We search various sources for the error message you give us to find possible solutions. So we need the exact error message text, we can't find paraphrased error messages.
    http://ask-leo.com/can_i_avoid_retyping_error_messages_when_i_need_to_report_them.html
This link describes a shortcut to capture the FULL and EXACT error message text in a message box. As of Win 2000, <CTL><C> captures error text from most(some?) dialog boxes. Report it back here
by pasting the text into a reply, or typing the full message if you can't copy it.

Solving problems unique to a machine can be an arduous task for both the end-user and the help desk. That’s why Win7 introduces the Problem Steps Recorder, a screen-capture tool that allows the end-user to record the problems they’re having step-by-step.
If the problem is repeatable, the recorder will capture what you do in text form.
It’s as simple as hitting “record” then adding in comments as needed. A HTML-based file is converted to a .ZIP folder, which is easily passed on to the help desk.
The program is accessible from the Control Panel under “Record steps to reproduce a problem” or run psr.exe from Explorer.
Upload result to a file share site and post the link back here.

Office Needs a Newer Version of Windows – We’re Sorry, we couldn’t install your Office product because you don’t have a modern Windows Operating System. You need Microsoft Win7 (or newer) to install this product.
    http://sdrv.ms/QmLxfn
Save the New Office setup file locally on the Computer then follow the steps mentioned below then install new Office and check if that helps:
Right click on the new Office setup file then click on the ‘Properties’ option.
    Click on the compatibility tab.
Uncheck ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ checkbox and uncheck ‘Run this program as an administrator’ check box and click Ok.
If the above steps does not resolves the issue then try disabling Security Antivirus manually and then try installing New Office.
You may also restart the system in Win7 clean boot and try installing New Office there.

  • Office 2013 VL and app-v 5 SP2 on RDS server - package add fails with script error

I have just downloaded the latest ODT from MS, and then downloaded the latest Office 2013 packaged - volume license.  Then created the app-v package - all went perfectly, no error messages.  Uploaded the package to the app-v 5 server and published
it.  I have made NO changes to any of the files.
I have just built a brand new Windows Server 2008R2 Datacentre VM, patched it to the hilt, and installed the RDS role, powershell 3 and appv 5.0 SP2 client for RDS.
I then use powershell as above:
              scripting unrestricted
              app v client scripting enabled
             app v server added
              global and user update enabled
add-appvclient package  "url of office package.appv"
and received exactly the same error message.
It is not complaining that scripting is not allowed, it is complaining that the script is invalid.

    Hi,
As mentioned in ths article below, run for Office 365 products on to a Remote Desktop Session Host server is not supported. You can install Office products for Office 365 to a virtual desktop, but the virtual desktop must be assigned to a single user.

  • App-V Office 2013/Office 365?

    Hi,
In order to App-v Office 2013, apparently you need Office 365 ProPlus? How to get it, we do have Office 2013 ProPlus but that's not sufficient? Don't get what the difference is actually.
Note: we don't want to use  Office 2013 click-n-run.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt
Note: the click-n-run doesn't give the option to mention you Exchange server, the junk folder used in Outlook etc., that's what we really need (just as the setup.exe /admin option in Office.

The difference between Office 365 ProPlus and Office Professional Plus 2013 is licensing only as the text you've quoted shows and as Rory has provided details on as well.
This is separate from how you deploy Office. With either Office 365 or Office 2013 you can choose to use a standard installation or the Office Deployment Tool (App-V). Office 365 also provides the Click-to-Run version which you download from the Office 365
    site.
If you have licensed Office 365, but want to use the Volume License media, you may have to purchase the media separately (which is really a download from the Volume License site). You may be required to purchase the minimum of 5 VL licenses to get access
to the media, but check with a Microsoft licensing expert for clarification.
The only supported method of deploying Office 2013 / Office 365 with App-V is via the Office Deployment Tool. This means that you can't use the VL media (SETUP /ADMIN) to create a configuration and capture that with the Sequencer.

    Hi

There is a wealth of information on Office 365 deployments at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg715562(v=office.15).aspx
    Overview:
    Download the office deployment tool
    configure your config.xml file
download the bits locally to your server.
    create a package for MDT.

  • This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions... - Office 2013 (Windows 2012R2 RDS)

    Hello,
We've got an Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Server farm for Multi tenant pursoses. therefor we've decided to use the following GPO setting: "Restrict Access to the Following Drives" in combination with the "Hide the following drives"
for both settings we've set the C: drive to be inaccessible through regular browsing. This causes an issue when users, that open up their documents from an outlook attachement or an internet explorer webpage. Is there a way to get around the error message:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" or perhaps change the error.
I've already been experimenting with the outlooksecuretemp registry and setting the temp/tmp environment variable to another location which then allows users to save in an temp folder but prevents the message, this then causes documents
to get lost since such a location gets auto cleaned after logging off. Due to multitenant purposes i dont want to change 2 GPO settings mentioned earlier.
I did how ever found the setting: "File open/save Dialog" (+ "Approved Locations") setting which prevents the error message but therefor causes other issues. Like beeing unable to press a library or explorer.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to prevent the error message?
Thanks!! And when more information is required please let me know so i'll try to explain the exact situation.
    Regards,
    Dennis

I have the same issue as Dennis described. Environment is Server 2012R2 and Office 2013.
"Restrict Access to the Following Drives" and "Hide the following drives" are set
After the users have opened an attachement, a pdf for example, and then hit 'save as' the error message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this Computer. Contact your Administrator" occurs. Finally it
showed the save as dialag and pointed to redirected documents.
I've also tried to set the 'OutlookSecureTempFolder' to the value U:\ in HCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security. Drive U:\ is mapped correctly.
But when I have opened the attachment, the registry value has changed to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Content.Outlook\....
BTW: In a Server 2008R2 environment with Office 2010 the modified 'OutlookSecureTempFolder' worked like charm.
    Any new ideas?
    Regards,
    Markus
