Offline Analytics Capture Impact

Hi All,
I have an app that the client is using in a retail environment, running 10-12 hours a day. The client is insisting that the app is used in an offline environment. Over the first week or so of use, we have noticed a significant slow down in touch response times. Buttons take about three to five seconds to respond.
My concern is that the offline analytics capture is becoming a memory hog, and slowing down the app. The only way to fix the issue that I have found is to keep the device connected to the internet, but the client doesn't view this as an acceptable solution.
Any help in avoiding the slowdown would be appreciated.
-Scott

If the app is offline for large periods of time and the client requires analytics, there's no good solution. We could implement a setting that lets you cap the amount of offline analytics to save but that would defeat the purpose of capturing anything wouldn't it? I guess the quesiton is, are partial analytics worth capturing? Can you provide the amount of time between internet connections and how often the app is being used during those non connected periods?

  • Problem with migrating data (SQL Server 2k offline data capture)

    Hi there,
I try to migrate a SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 10g (R2) using offline data capture. I following the online Tutorial “Migrate from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle Database 10g Using Oracle Migration Workbench” and everything seems OK until “Migrating the tablespaces, users and user tables to the destination database” http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t5. I have two errors on 2 (out of 85 ) tables saying “ Failed to create default for Table :
ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis”. I checked the column/table names and they seems OK. I don’t understand why I got these errors. However, when I checked the ‘SA’ Schema in Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, I can see all the tables (including the two problem ones).
I then carry on to the next step and tried to migrate data to the destination database (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t6) I am now stuck on step 5. “…copy the files from c:\omwb\data_files to the c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle directory…” I cannot find the ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ directory, in fact, I don’t have a directory called ‘data_files’ on my machine. I noticed the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory contains the all the 85 [tableName].ctl files (plus two other files: ‘sql_load_script’ and ‘sql_load_script.sh’). From the screenshots online, ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ seems contains files with the same name as the [tableName]. Therefore, I did a search with [tableName] but cannot find any apart from the [tableName].ctl file in the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory. What should I do next?
    OS: windows 2003 with SP1
    Oracle: 10g Release 2
    SQL Server 2000
Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    Helen,
Sorry, I am new here. Could you please tell me (or point me to the related documents about) how to output the Oracle model as a script?Action-> Generate Migration Scripts
And what do you mean by ‘The default conversion may have failed’? Do you mean data type mapping? I went through all the columns and tables and checked the data types in the Oracle model already. The processing for the default for a table column could have something the basic workbench default parser cannot handle.
I hope you are finding the workbench to be a productive aid to migration.

  • Offline data capture for SQLServer2k shows 0 tables

    Hi,
I'm evaluating OMWB Offline Data Capture for SQL Server 2000 migration.
I ran OMWB_OFFLINE_CAPTURE.BAT script for SQL Server 2000. It seams like the DAT files are generated and no error messages appear. The problems occure when I start the OMW and try to "Capture Source Database".
I specify the directory, where the generated DAT files reside, the DAT files appear in the file list and the status is AVAILABLE. But when I run the Capture with the Oracle Model Creation, I see among the LOG messages that "...Tables Mapped: 0...".
I created TEST database with the table [tab] in it. In generated SS2K_SYSOBJECTS.dat file there is a row for this table:
    tab     \t     2041058307     \t     U      \t     1     \t     1     \t     1610612736     \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     2006/09/26      \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     U      \t     1     \t     67     \t     0     \t     2006/09/26      \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     0     \t     \r\n
The rest objects are not in the Oracle Model too (I believe the user sa must have been created too).
Please, anybody help with this problem.

I changed the separators back to the default. But the Oracle Model still is not created. Still the same problem, there are no tables at all in the source database.
Here is how the row for the table is specified in the SS2K_SYSOBJECTS.dat file:
    tab     ?     2041058307     ?     U      ?     1     ?     1     ?     1610612736     ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     2006/09/26      ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     U      ?     1     ?     67     ?     0     ?     2006/09/26      ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     0     ?     ?

  • Capture device goes offline interrupting capture.

    Dell Inspiron 660
    Win 7 Pro
    8gb ram
    Startech PCI 1394a Firewire card

    Thanks for the response.
I capture SD video from tape using Sony DSR V10. I installed a fire wire card for interface. PPro capture controls work fine however during capture the device goes offline interrupting capture. I can save the clip and get an entire capture using multiple clips by overlapping. Once the capture device goes offline I stop the deck manually but as soon as it stops the capture device & controls come back online..I rewind, overlap and continue. It goes offline erratically. I have played with security interruptions, auto-save and no relief.

  • Analytics Capture Time

    Hi Everyone,
A client will be using in an offline enviornment for extended periods of time. They want to capture the analytics of use from that offline use. I know it is possible to send those anayltics once the device is connected, but I need to know how long the devices need to be connected to the internet for the analytics to be sent.

  • Offline USB Capture Of Windows 8.1?

We just received new wireless Atom tablets (no Ethernet) running Windows 8.1 Update 1 Pro and we have only been deploying Windows 7 up until now.  It may be possible to get USB Ethernet adapters that would allow network deployment, but we would rather
just do it all offline especially since we won't have a wired network available at the remote sites we will be deploying them to anyway.  Might as well just do everything offline from the beginning.
I'm going to upgrade MDT from 2012 to 2013, manually set up a thick image of one of the tablets with all the apps installed and drivers persistently retained so the deployment task completion can be as fast as possible.
I have deployed Windows 7 using offline USB before, but I have never captured an image to USB.  Don't capture sequences look for UNC paths to save the capture to?
I'd like to set up a Sysprep and Capture task sequence for these tablets that can be run entirely offline via USB.
How do you configure a Sysprep and Capture task sequence to send the captured image to a folder on the USB stick rather than a network share UNC path?

The Sysprep and capture task sequence involves two components:
    1. Running sysprep.
    2. Booting into WinPE, and capturing the source drive to a target *.wim file.
Do not make the assumption that booting into WinPE requires PXE, it does not, in fact for the Sysprep and capture task sequence MDT will typically attempt to copy the LitetouchPE_Xxx.wim file to local System Partition, assuming that you have enough space.
Sometimes OEM configured machines are not given System partitions with enough size to hold the Boot.wim file.
Secondly, once you have booted into WinPE, you should be able to target your USB drive as a target for the captured install.wim file. It has been a while since I have tried it, but I thought that there is some logic to auto-reconfigure drive letters in
ZTIBackup.wsf to support this scenario, I could be mistaken however. Just specify the drive letter that exists when you launch the Sysprep and Capture Task Sequence. However, the most common scenario is to copy the install.wim file to a network share.
If it does not work, please share the bdd.log file.

  • IEEE 1934 devices report as being Offline in Capture Mode

I recently found the need to capture video. I had an OHCI compliant IEEE 1934 card professionally installed. Windows recognizes the card and reports it as working properly. When I connect a Firewire device, windows recognizes a device had been attached and detached when I disconnect which indicates the cables and connections are fine.
I have three Firewire devices, two of which are on the Device Setup list located in the Capture Preferences of Premiere 2.0. They include:
    JVC HR-DVS2U
    Panasonic AG DVX-100
My third device is a Cannon ZR45 MC and while I understand only the ZR40 and ZR50 are listed, I figure the functionality would be so similar, that the ZR45 would have at best limited support within Premiere.
All devices report as being Offline. I’ve read the manual and went through each step more than 4 times with each device and the conclusion is the same. Might there be a step within Windows that I need to perform first?
    Dual Pentium Xeon 2.4Ghz
Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2
    3 GB RAM
    Premiere 2.x

I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to help answer and troubleshoot my problem.
When researching the web for answers, to include Microsoft’s web site, I discovered many people had the same issues, but for different reasons. Most seemed to stem from service pack or updates received in Vista. Some derived after upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro. I kind of thought this was my issue since all my IEEE devices work with XP home on a very old Sony laptop, but not XP Pro on a rather capable workstation. In the literally hundreds of pages, posts and articles I read through, none of them helped me and according to most who have posted trouble with devices unseen by Windows or offline by any number of different editing aps, there were no fixes. My solution came quite by accident.
I don’t know if this is typical for all OHCI compliant cards not installed by a computer manufacturer, but the one I have comes with a utility called The Switch. It enables one to use either it’s built in drivers that are used by default, or Windows drivers. When I used The Switch, the Installation Wizard auto detected the Canon, and began installing about 7 drivers at the end of which, Premiere saw and manipulated the cam. I tried the same thing for the JVC. All but one driver (T.V. Tuner) was installed, however Premiere still recognized and controlled the deck. Due to time restraints, I only tried playback, shuttle, pause and stop, but there should be no reason capture won’t work.
I hope this helps others who are experiencing device offline issues. I urge you to post your solutions even if they are different from mine.

  • Offline data capture

    HI..
I have created the .dat files, using the offline capture scripts.
From the capture wizard, I clieck offline capture, provide it the files.. window appears which says it is loading the source model.
After everything is done, I cannot see anything in the souce model on the main pane of the workbench. It says no objects captured. There were no errors in the log file. I am using the default repository..
any clue, on how to fix this.
    manoj

    HI Manoj,
I think your problem may be delimiters.
The column and row delimiter used to seperate out the columns and rows of data in the dat file, the same characte ris also present in the data itself.
    Sybase 12 by default uses
    OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER=§
    OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER=¥
I think your data may contain one of those characters somewhere. So when the OMWB comes to read the dat files it mistakenly thinks there is an extra column or row.
To solve this problem you can change the column and row delimiters used.
    1) Change the delimiter in the offline capture scripts and then rerun them to generate data files with the new delimiteres
    - omwb\offline_capture\Sybase12\OMWB_OFFLINE_CAPTURE.BAT
    I would change this
rem ** SET THE VALUE FOR THE OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER
rem ** THIS VALUE SHOULD MATCH THE VALUE SET FOR THE SAME VARIABLE IN OMWB_INSTALL_DIR\bin\omwb.properties
    set OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER=§
rem ** SET THE VALUE FOR THE OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER
rem ** THIS VALUE SHOULD MATCH THE VALUE SET FOR THE SAME VARIABLE IN OMWB_INSTALL_DIR\bin\omwb.properties
    set OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER=¥
    to this
rem ** SET THE VALUE FOR THE OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER
rem ** THIS VALUE SHOULD MATCH THE VALUE SET FOR THE SAME VARIABLE IN OMWB_INSTALL_DIR\bin\omwb.properties
    set OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER=º
rem ** SET THE VALUE FOR THE OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER
rem ** THIS VALUE SHOULD MATCH THE VALUE SET FOR THE SAME VARIABLE IN OMWB_INSTALL_DIR\bin\omwb.properties
    set OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER=Ñ
These 2 characters occur very little in real data, so they are the next best choice of character for delimiters. But you can use any one you want. (has to be a single character though)
    2) Next you have to tell the OMWB what delimiter characters to expect
    a.
Using a text editor, open the omwb.properties file located in the OMWB_install_dir/Omwb/bin directory. If it doesnt exits, create a new file called omwb.properties
    b.
Edit or add the following fields:
    OFFLINE_CAPTURE_COLUMN_DELIMITER="º"
    OFFLINE_CAPTURE_ROW_DELIMITER="Ñ"
In the previous lines, delimiter_column is your choice of column delimiter and delimiter_row is your choice of row delimiter.
    c.
    Save the file, then exit.
Migration Workbench is now enabled to handle the new character encoding.
You can try and load up your captured database now.
    I hope this works,
    Dermot.

  • Device offline cannot capture

Recently bought a sony vaio with windows vista which has a sony visual communication webcam installed just above the screen. Have tried to use adobe elements 4 and my webcam is offline. Can you explain the problem more?

  • Offline Batch Capturing

    Hi Guys,
This is the situation I was in earlier today:
I needed to dig out an old FCP project to re-edit a video that was edited and signed off months ago. Consequently all of the media was deleted / taken offline.
According to the FCP manual, I should use the media manager to create an Offline copy of the project (which was already offline!), with which I selected 'delete unused media', hoping that I would have to digitise the media (with handles) ONLY used on the timeline.
However I could not get this to work. The batch capture wanted to capture over 2.5 hours of material from several tapes for an edited sequence that is around 10 minutes long!
What do you think I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

You aren't doing anything 'wrong'. FCP is capturing the 'clip' you specified. If you originally captured your media in long segments and used sub-clips to break down the larger clip to edit, this is exactly how recapturing should behave.
The only way I know to prevent this is to export your individual sub-clips and reimport them as stand alone clips. This way they will be independent of the original media.
Media Manager may have some settings to automate this process for you but my experience with it was so problematic, I don't use it. Perhaps in 5.1.2 it is better - can't say.
    good luck.

  • Camera offline in capture window

    Hi
I'm using Premier Pro CS3 on Mac os 10.5.6 (G5 pro intel) I've followed the intstructions on http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb406205&sliceId=1 (and yes I know this is for windows but I have assumed the set-up details are the same. It was the only knowledge base answer I could find) and found the settings for the Sony DCR TRV-900e camera but it still says it's offline. I am using a firewire cable direct into the Mac from the DV in/out socket on the camera.
I am sure I've missed something but I can't work out what it is.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Chris

Also with 'firewire' the software can control the camera.
I would try using a USB connection with iMovie but I can't find the lead and anyway the instructions from Adobe say it should work with the firewire lead.
I am waiting for a reply from Sony support and will post if it's of any interest when I get it.
    Cheers

what's wrong with my migration workbench?
    Thanks~~

    Hi,
The offline capture creates data files. These dat files contain data from the system tables of your Sybase database. We use special characters to act as delmiters between the columns and rows in the data.
If these delimiters are present within your data then the OMWB thinks that you have an extra column or row (basically it breaks apart the row into columns using the delimiters , but if the delimiters are also present in your data, the omwb breaks apart the row incorrectly).
    Theres a solution outlined here
    Re: Offline data capture
You could also try the Online Capture if you have that option available.
    I hope this helps

  • Offline shopfloor requirement

    Hi Folks,
I have a requirement which encompasses implementing a solution for online and offline scenario.
Contract Manufactures have to be provided with an ability to confirm POs from the shopfloor.
The boundary conditions of the requirements are as such:
    - The business needs a solution that will work both online and offline to capture certain fields using a hand held scanner (RFID)
    - The shopfloor network lies outside the network in which ECC is hosted
    - The shopfloor might not have connectivity to the LAN/intranet at all times.
Given the above scenario, the solution needs to cater to the following features/needs:
    - The solution must be web-based
    - The same solution needs to be accessible online and offline
    - The confirmation should be automated (irrespective of if they are connected or are offline). (In short, the user should not have to take the trouble of logging in again when there is connectivity in order to push the confirmation to ECC. Hence the conventional offline adobe forms scnarios -> fill offline, upload online is out )
A few solutions / approaches I could think of is as follows:
    1) If we can convince the business that the shopfloor could have a VPN tunnel connected to the network in which ECC is hosted, we can use the following solution:
    - Adobe forms used online and offline .
         - Online can be achieved by using interactive adobe forms.  The necessary   fields are filled in . (+Question: Is it possible to have a reader connected , say via USB and have an app that converts the barcode into keystrokes + autoenter and is entered in the adobe forms?+). On click of submit, a BAPI confirms the PO in ECC.
        - Offline can be achieved by using Offline AdobeInteractive FormsIntegration using SAP PI ABAP Mapping. The user accesses a saved version of the Adobe forms in the desktop. Once filled, on click of submit, the PDF form can be converted as an XML attachment and sent to the Microsoft outlook outbox of the user. Whenever the exchange server has connectivity, it synchronizes the folders and automatically mails the PDF attachment to PI's mail adapter. In PI, it is transformed into an IDoc structure and finally be posted to a SAP backendsystem using Proxy/IDoc/ALE technology.
    2) In an event VPN cannot be used, we can only go in for the offline scenario at all times which routes back data to ECC via PI.  In the current landscape , PI interfaces with external network via a web dispatcher placed in the DMZ.
The emphasis here is on a 'automated offline' scenario. The part where the application needs to be 'outside the network' could be negotiated.
A few solutions I have been evaluating, but do not have concrete understanding on are:
    - Use of a Federated(distributed) PI approach, in conjuction with BPM (not clear on how this would work, but am still reading up on it.)
Has anybody have a similar requirement?  Are my assumptions mentioned above valid? (eg: I am assuming that RFID scanner to Adobe forms integration can happen) Any pointers here will be extremely helpful.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Puja

Any thoughts on this? Or any suggestions on which forum should I post this query to in order to elicit a suitable response. (I posted it in this forum since the original solution was to have a web dynpro application [with interactive forms] ).

  • Which Offline RT to use, if any?

    Help!
I have three six minute videos due by 3/22. I am just beginning with FCP. Here's my question...
My media drive has 300gig available. With approximately 250 minutes of source material to digitize I fear I may run too low on space capturing uncompressed. I am digitizing with the AJA IO. My source material is 90 percent Beta, and 10 percent MiniDV from a GL2 via firewire.
    Should I …..
    A) use the “Offline RT NTSC”setting and then redigitize only the sequence material needed? When I try this, I get a warning that reads; “UNABLE TO LOCATE EXTERNAL DEVIVE…APPLE FIRE WIRE 720X480”.
    B) use "AJA IO – NTSC 8 bit to Offline RT". Since my show will be projected, I really would like the end result to be as high quality as possible. However, when I use the MEDIA MANAGER to bring back my show at high rez, it appears to be redigitizing, but then my clips in the timeline still are jpeg size.
What am I doing wrong? I hope I explained this well. I’m confusing myself at this point.
    Thank you

    hi Casey
    use option B)
you're digitize from source using the AJA IO but you need to capture at low rez as you don't have disc space ... hence AJA IO - NTSC 8 bit (source) to Offline RT (capture), the input to the AJA is NTSC 8 bit and it transcodes to the Offline RT codec in realtime during capture.
make sure your timeline is set to Offline RT
when you have finished your cut you then need to use Media Manager to "Create Offline" and set the codec to Uncompressed 8 bit, and then recapture from source but this time in all its uncompressed glory, but only those clips necessary for the edit.
its a good idea to familiarize yourself as much as possible with the workflow before you launch into it so test it out first. check out these tutorials on the process at Ken Stones website, here:
