Offline Flex Database Non-Air

I'm building an image viewer that has several GBs of imagery
data.
We will ship the images on a DL-DVD to computers around the
world. Since most are used in a strictly controlled environment and
don't have permission to install anything on their machines, Adobe
Air is out, but would be perfect for our needs.
The problem I'm having is organizing several GBs worth of
imagery into XML files. It's over 150,000 entries and is a
nightmare for bookkeeping. I saw Air supported SQLite. Can I use
that with Flex -Air? If not, is there another solution besides XML
I can use offline in a browser to keep records of where images are
and metadata about them?
In a nutshell, we're just building a website, but instead of
running it on a server, they will open the .html page from a dvd.
Whatever would work on a server, should work here.

Whatever would work on

...except that a server is actually running server software.
Your users
probably aren't, and you'd need access to their systems to be
able to tell
the server software that they aren't running where your
"website" is.
So, in a word, no.
Would be nice though :-)

Existing Flex App With Air

I have been working on a large Flex App using CFM as the db
access layer. Essentially I understand that AIR will allow my RIA
which is currently solely used in a browser run off line as a
desktop app. However, my question is what's involved in modifying
this application to push 'new' data added while off line back to
the db when a connection becomes available.
Some guidance on this subject would be great, or is this
something which should require no modification?

AIR doesn't give you any synchronization mechanisms. It's
entirely up to you how you manage offline operation.
What AIR actually does is provide an out-of-browser runtime
environment for Flex apps, plus some additional APIs that Flex
couldn't give you due to its browser-based nature. Among them are
access to a local database, plus more generalized local filesystem
access. Between these two things, you can store local changes while
offline, then work out some way to push them to the server at a
later time.
You might make your first step into the AIR world just a
simple port of the existing application to run under the AIR
framework. This won't give you any new offline capability, but it
will let the app run as a desktop app, outside a browser. This may
make more sense for your type of application. Then once you get
that going, you can worry about synchronization.

Flex SDK and AIR runtime version in mobile

Hi, guys.
I'm trying to make my first Flex mobile app.
I'm a little confused about the relationship between Flex SDK and AIR runtime versions for mobile development.
In the "Developing Mobile Applications with ADOBE FLEX 4.6 and ADOBE FLASH BUILDER 4.6" pdf document, it says:
"AIR requirements
Flex mobile projects and ActionScript mobile projects require AIR 2.6 or a higher version. You can run mobile projects on physical devices that support AIR 2.6 or a higher version of AIR.
You can install AIR 2.6 or a higher version only on supported Android devices that run Android 2.2 or a higher version. For the complete list of supported Android devices, see Certified Devices. Also, review the minimum system requirements to run Adobe AIR on Android devices at Mobile System Requirements.
Note: If you do not have a device that supports AIR 2.6 or a higher version of AIR, you can use Flash Builder to launch and debug mobile applications on the desktop."
So, I go and check the Certified devices in http://www.adobe.com/devnet-apps/flashruntimes/certified-devices.html and find that the minimun FLASH PLAYER version accepted by ALL devices is FP 10.1
1. Does this mean that if I want to release an app to target ALL mobile devices, then I can only use Flex 4.5?
2. Do support for Flash Player mean the same than support for Adobe AIR? Or the application will prompt the user to install whatever version of the AIR runtime and all of them would be supported by the device, even in the FLASH PLAYER support is for a lesser version?

The first impression that comes to mind is that FP version is indeed only for the web browser plugin. Then, why does the official Flex 4.6 mobile development documentation have a link to that page that only speaks about the supported FP version in mobiles under the title "AIR requirements"??
This makes it way too confusing.
Do you know whether there is something like an equivalent matrix/list of mobile devices with their supported AIR runtime versions? I went a great deal in trying to keep my original app under 400kb... I didn't know that in the end it would end up weighing 9.5Mb... :S

Need HTTPService and play video in flex 4.6 Air Mobile App

We are porting a flex 3.2 app to mobile app. The 3.2 app uses mx.rpc.http.HTTPService to send XML requests for data and launch video web pages. Will a flex 4.6 Air Mobile app be able to do the same? If so, what replaces mx.rpc.http.HTTPService? I read that mx components will not work in Flex mobile apps.

Its working fine.And the mxml components which are displayobject should not be used in the mobile application except the chart.
So nothing wrong with using "mx.rpc.http.HTTPService",you can also use <s:HTTPService/>
Also there is a nice way to see which components should be used or which not for the mobile application.
Simply mouse over on the component when you have used it.You can see a message on that if that is not optimized for the mobile application like for the combobox you can see this message:-
"Adobe discourages using ComboBox when targeting profiles: mobileDevice."
While this is not the case with <s:HTTPService/>.

User, please tell us your Jdev version!
There is no such functionality build into the framework. The offline data base is only for designing the db, not to have a backup db.
If you can't connect to the db the application will not work.

Air application loading flex applications(no Air) with flex linked as RSL.

I am trying to make an AIR application which loads number of flex applications(no AIR). The subapplications are using the Flex SDK as a RSL, and each of them can use different version of the SDK.
The problem is that the subapplicationsare trying to load the needed SDK from local filesystem, which they are not permited.

Is there any way to reliably edit the trust files with AIR application?
As I see it we have to make the user to add our folder to the trusted locations, or to use some application which can find and write in the FlashPlayerTrust (native for the specific OS installer for example.). (even finding this directory with an AIR application seems not 100% reliable).

I compiled some sub-applications using custom preloader class(the controlling class, not the UI), where I removed the RSL loading. After that in an ApplicationDomain I load all the RSLs with loaders. After that I load the sub-application in the same domain. On paper this should work, but the sub-application can't find the classes from the RSLs(the first exeption is that there is no definition for spark.components.Application)

How to embed SQLite database to Air app?

Now I connect to a database file like this:

The only way to view a file "offline" is to download it, regardless of the app or cloud system used. When you check a file as being available offline, that is what it does - downloads a copy for local use.
In the Google drive app, tap on the icon to the right of the item., the turn Available Offline ON. (This will download a copy of off line use). You must be Online when you do this, obviuosly. If you are using another app to connect to Google, and the app support offline viewing, it should have a similar mechanism.

Can I update my Android AIR app with a non-AIR app?

A few years ago I published an Android app using Adobe AIR. Now I've created a new version of the app with a different technology (HaxeFlixel / OpenFL) which uses native C++ code.
The certificate I used for the AIR version is in "p12" format, and it seems that I need to use "jks" format. I tried using a p12 to jks converter I found online, which seemed to work, but when I try to submit the app I get an error saying that the certificates don't match.
Any suggestions on how I can update the app with a non-AIR app? Is it possible? Thanks in advance.

I'm still having trouble with this, I asked in the OpenFL forums but nobody responded.
I converted the p12 file to JKS from the site you suggested (I think I've actually tried it before), and the file was created successfully, the apk compiled fine with the JKS file, but when I try to update the app for Google Play it says "Upload failed
You uploaded an APK that is signed with a different certificate to your previous APKs. You must use the same certificate. Your existing APKs are signed with the certificate(s) with fingerprint(s):"
When I try to sign with the original p12 file, I get the error "Invalid keystore format"
I noticed that for the AIR app, I also had a file called SelfSigned.pfx, which I think was used to create the p12 certificate? Can this have something to do with the problem? I even tried using this pfx file to sign the app, which didn't work either.

Sounds like airglobal.swc is missing in your library path. I have some tips here http://blogs.adobe.com/jasonsj/2010/03/using_the_air_2_sdk_in_flash_builder_4.html, but you might want to double check your SDK overlay: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/AIR_2:Release_Notes#AIR_2_SDK.

How to connect to and communicate with an SQLite database in AIR/Flex

The Run of the program tells me this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I would appreciate any help or a how-to. I am an absolute beginner with some experience from HTML, CSS, PHP and rarely JS. What am I doing wrong? File attached for easier manipulation as well.
