Old computer Windows new one Mac. How do I switch my iPod

Okay so I'm getting a new iMac tuesday. This computer is horrible so I want to start loading music into my new one. How do I switch my iPod video from windows to apple?
I'm asking this because I plugged my iPod mini into a friends apple and it no longer worked on my windows. I was lucky I was soon getting a new one but that is not the case here, so I would reallyreallyreally hugely appreciate some help. Thanks soso much

Apple has done such a great job with the iPod that it is easy to forgot how complex the entire system is. The hardware is the easy part, it is the software that's really complex. iTunes catalogs our music and lets us arrange our playlists but it also keeps track of authorized music, play counts, songs skipped, and all the other things that the iPod and iTunes keep track of together. Others have designed credible mp3 players (Sans Disk for example) but no one has put together anything that can rival the iPod<->iTunes<->iTunes Store.
Which brings me to the point of this post. When something goes wrong it can be difficult to determine just what the problem is. When someone's iPod fails to sync, the quick conclusion people tend to reach is that there's something wrong with the iPod, but as you discovered that isn't necessarily the case. A failure to sync can be hardware related (iPod, computer, cable) or software releated (iPod, computer, iTunes) and unfortunately we don't always get an error message that pinpoints the problem.
In your case the problem was with music on your computer's hard drive. If you haven't already done so, I'd urge you to run a disk diagnostic and if possible back up your music. There are two possibilities: those songs have always been defective on that computer and you just now discovered it, or, those songs were okay and have 'died' since the last time you played them. If the former is true you'll want to check out the songs you added at the same time and/or from the same source. If the latter, you may have some serious hard drive issues developing.

    What "ipod registration"?
    Plug it in and sync.
It will erase your content form the ipod and replace with content from the new computer.  Make sure you have copied everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one first.

  • I would like to transfer my contacts from an old computer to new one both on Thunderbird

Got a new computer and I just wanted to transfer all the contacts in my address book from there to my new computer on Thunderbird rather than painstakingly doing it one at a time! Can I import them all?

I think I should clarify a bit more... Both my old computer and new computer have Thunderbird on them. I just want to "magically" get all my address book contacts from the old computer and older version of Thunderbird to the new computer and newer version (I assume) of Thunderbird. Is this possible? I am not REAL computer literate so the directions (if there are any) must be easy to understand.

  • I replaced my old computerwith a new one.  How do I transfer my music purchases to my new computer?

I had an old Windows XP PC that I had my iTunes library on and I would purchase music through iTunes and it could be shared with my kids 2 iPods and our 2 iPads.  I also have an older 30gig iPod Video that I would sync with my old desktop computer. I did iMatch and have everything stored on iCloud. I bought a windows 8 PC to replace the old desktop and thought that I could simply log into my Apple account with my new computer and essentially "download" my library onto the new computer.  That is not working for me.  I can see all the music listed in iTunes but the text is greyed out and I cannot play any of the music from my desktop.  I deauthorized my old computer and as far as I can tell I authorized my new one.  I cannot see my Purchases music folder on the new computer.  On top of this, my son wiped everything off of his iPod Touch (4th gen) and I am trying to get the games and things I purchased from the App Store reinstalled on his iPod.  Can anyone tell me what I need to do?  HELP!!! • Getting new computer - how get itunes from old computer to new one?

Hello: I am in the process of getting a new desktop computer. Currently in itunes I have about 100 songs (I just got the ipod the other day). My current computer only has USB 1.1 so I am excited to be able to use USB 2.0 with the new machine. So, how do I get all of my songs on itunes from my current computer to the new one? Sorry if this is a stupid question, however I am very new to ipods. Thanks

For me, using a computer network is the easiest, and fastest.
    Next would be using DVDs
    then CDs
    then the iPod.
Sounds like you have never burned a CD/DVD or backed up any of your music. You do know you only get the one-time download per track from the iTMS, don't you?

  • How to transfer music from old computer to new one

The logic board is shot on my old iBook. I bought a new one. I can access the old one through target disk mode. I replaced the iTunes folder on the new one with the iTunes folder from the old one but the music doesn't show up in the library. If I go to the iTunes music folder and click on a song it gets added to the new library, but I have 4000 songs. My admin user name is the same on both computers. What's the secret?

    Hi
    Follow this:

Where the article talks about using an iPod you simply transfer directly between the old hard drive and the new hard drive.

  • How to i transfer actions from old computer to new one?

    Hi!
I bought a new computer and installed Adobe Photosho 4 on it. But as i had tons of actions on my old computer, is it maybe possible to transfer those to my new comp?
    Regards,
    Hanno

I presume you mean Photoshop CS4?
Save the actions in sets (very important) on the old computer and then copy the saved *.atn files across to the new computer.
    They belong in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Presets\Actions

  • Syncing to old library transferred from old computer to new one

Help! I had the data from my old laptop copied to my new computer. When I access itunes it only brings up the songs I've purchased and not the ones I loaded manually. It says it can't sync my ipod as it's linked to another library. I can't find that library though when I do search for it. Can I copy the songs from ipod to my library?

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Transferring files from old computer to new one

I just purchased an HP Envy 700 series and am trying to transfer my files from my old computer.  My problem is that the old computer has a fried motherboard so I put the old hard drive in an external case and hooked it up to the new computer to transfer the files.  When I try to access the "users" folder on the old drive I get a message telling me I don't have permission to access the folder.  Is there anything I can do to get past this?

The OS on the old computer was Windows 7 Home and the new one is Windows 7 Pro.
I have developed a work around for my problem.  I put the old hard drive in an external case and then hooked it up to my laptop.  I then lower the User Account Control setting to its lowest setting (after I turn off my access to the internet) and then I am able to access all the files in the account that was blocked before.  It is tedious trying to transfer many GB's of data using a thumb drive but it is getting done.

  • Replaced crashed computer with new one. How do I secure a serial number for my re-installed CS3 program obtained while as a student at Dixie State University with a coupon code of HL1A-003B-L2A0? Trial expires in 7 days.

My old computer, which had CS3 installed, crashed and I had to replace the computer.  We re-installed the CS3 program on the new computer, and the prompt calls for a serial number, which we do not have.  I obtained the original CS3 while registered as a student at Dixie State University.  The Coupon Code is: HL1A-003B-L2AO.  There are only 7 days remaining on the new trial period.  I e-mailed Adobe requesting a serial number several days ago, but have not received a response.  How do I secure the serial number?  Rollo B.
