Old redo log how i deleted

hi guruji
in db13 some old log are not bakupded please say and say how i delete unbakuped log
nainesh

Please delete the unwanted files from oraarch dir at os level.
you can manually back up the remaining logs through brbackup or brconnect.
If you dont know the command just search sdn for manual backup of redo log.

  • Turn off Redo Logging (How?)

Can any of you hard core "gurus" tell me what the option is to start an instance without redo logging? I know it begins with an underscore character.
A couple years ago (maybe more) I saw a post on a forum explaining an undocumented feature allowing you to startup an Oracle instance with redo logging disabled.
Of course, this means that if the instance crashes the database is toast. But...
When creating a database without templates, the catalog.sql and catproc.sql scripts (plus all the others that have been added over the years) take a very long time to run. Longer in 10g than any version so far.
I would like to turn off redo logging to see how much it improves the time to create a database. If the instance crashes, I can just throw the database away and start again.

I think you are refering to
"_allow_resetlogs_corruption". But this parameter will help to avoid some consistency check during instace startup. But that will not help you in speeding up the create db.
I suggest find out what is the contention and try to tune accordingly.

  • I do not want to generate redo log, how ?

    Hi All,
    This is on Oracle 8.1.7.
I have a daily process, which truncates and populates some tables daily. These are reporting tables and daily get around 4 million records.
I do not want to generate any redo log for these tables.
I populate these tables with normal insert commands/updates. So, evenif I make that table NOLOGGING, still redo log is generated.
    Any ideas??
    Regards

There is generally no need to supress redo logging. The truncate command eliminates the logging of the row deletes so you only have to worry about the repopulation of the report tables.
You might be able to use direct path loads (insert append) or bulk loading to help speed this process.
Usually when developers have compained that the database logging was the problem we have been able to find either better approaches to generating the data or to tune the queries used in generating the data.

  • Emergency: cannot start database because redo logs have been deleted

Hi. Ok, so the redo logs are deleted and I don't have a backup. Fine, whatever. I am trying to just start my database and start the logging from scratch.
ORA-00320: cannot read file header from log 1 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/u01/oradata/orcl/redo01.log'
ORA-27069: attempt to do I/O beyond the range of the file
Here's what my log files look like:
    select group#, thread#, status from v$log;
    GROUP# THREAD# STATUS
    1 1 ACTIVE
    4 1 UNUSED
    3 1 UNUSED
    2 1 CURRENT
I have group 3 and 4 just sitting there. I would love to switch logging from group 1 to group 4 (which I just created) so I can drop the corrupted group 1 but when I try:
    SQL> alter system switch logfile;
    alter system switch logfile
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01109: database not open
Of course the database is not open because I can't get it started. So, I'm in kind of a catch 22.

I think you need to restore your database. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/osadvsce.htm#CACFFJFB says:
    >
Losing an Active Online Redo Log Group
If the database is still running and the lost active redo log is not the current log, then issue the ALTER SYSTEM CHECKPOINT statement. If the operation is successful, then the active redo log becomes inactive, and you can follow the procedure in "Losing an Inactive Online Redo Log Group". If the operation is unsuccessful, or if your database has halted, then perform one of procedures in this section, depending on the archiving mode.
The current log is the one LGWR is currently writing to. If a LGWR I/O operation fails, then LGWR terminates and the instance fails. In this case, you must restore a backup, perform incomplete recovery, and open the database with the RESETLOGS option.

  • Redo log files are deleted, how to recover the database

    Hi All,
I removed the redo01.log, redo02.log and redo03.log files of our Oracle database. And it caused the db to fail. Is there any way I can recover the database and startup database in normal mode? I do not need it to have all the latest data restored, I will be happy to just start the db and get going.
database is in arcive log mode.
    Thanks

    Hello,
You may try this if the database is mounted:
    recover database until cancel;
    cancel
alter database open resetlogs;Hope it can help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Locked console logs, how to delete?

Having discovered that my CanoScan scanner is writing one line of meaningless information to the console log every second, I have resolved to delete the logs. However I'm now faced with a whole bank of log files numbered from 0, then 501 to 512. I can access and read 502 (and delete it? safely? it doesn't matter?) but the others are all locked, I don't even know how big they are.
How do I delete the locked console log files? Please note - I am in the top level Library, not my user Home Library where there are no Console logs.

Hi, this is the response from Terminal...
    -rw------- 1 xxxxx admin 11404 Jan 29 10:14 /Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log
(Ignore the xxxxx). Does this mean anything to you? Does it tell me that the 501 log is 11404 bytes big? What about the other files which it didn't list?
Happily though, with no warning the problem seems to have disappeared for no reason I can find. The scanner continues to work ok, but there is nothing in Login Items (I didn't remove anything), and the message in Console log has stopped.
The only thing now is to delete all those other console logs, (500, and 503 - 512). And to find out how big they are, as the Terminal command only seemed to work for 501.

  • Lost redo log, how can get database started?

My redo03 log is irretriveably lost. It is never coming back. It had no data in it that I needed. All the real data I have is backed up in an EXP file. I just want to start the DB. Is there any way, short of just reinstalling the whole DB that I can tell Oracle 9.2 to change rdeo logs or rebuild the lost log? I have tried every alter or recover command I can think of.

did you mean allowresetlogs_corruption, or is that first underscore a mistake?
In any event, can I actually accomplish anything by changing the init.ora.somelongnumber file (there is no init.ora file), or must I use the alter system command to change the spfile. I actually tried both. The alter system command won't allow the allow_resetlogs_corruption parameter. If I use the create command to build an init.ora file the beginning of every line in the created file has a couple of stray characters. Am I supposed to put them in front of the allow_etc stuff?
Can you give me the command for clearing the log files and the command for opening the database in resetlogs mode?
I wish I could figure out where this stuff is documented, if any of it is. Perhaps I'm missing some manual. I've looked on the OTN documentation pages for some help, but didn't find anything.
Long ago I worked for Oracle in Redwood City porting the database to IBM mainframes. When we ran into this kind of confusion I visited the kernel group with a large blunt object and just threatened them until I got some documentation. I'm too far away now.

  • Removing Redo Log Files? What's Normal?

    Hello,
I'm new to Oracle and I've been using Informix for years. We currently have Oracle 9.2 running on Windows 2000 Server machine and apparently the redo log files keep filling up the disk drives they reside on. This is happening about every two weeks since we go out and delete the files when we remember.
My question is does Oracle have a "normal" way of removing old redo logs automatically rather than having to remove them manually? In the Informix world I can set the logical logs so that they write over previously used logs once they are no longer used. Is there a similar way to configure Oracle?
    Thanks for helping out.
    Gregg Walker

Do not delete your old log files: you need them.
That's how Oracle does recovery when you lose a datafile or a drive. You copy over the missing stuff from your back-up and then Oracle re-applies the chnages from the REDO logs thereby bringing your database back up to date. No work lost. Result!
Of course, if you don't take up a backup then holding on to REDO logs is pointless. In which case, set the database to run in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
However, I strongly advise you to run in ARCHIVELOG mode. You may find this part of the administrator's guide informative: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96521/archredo.htm#4553

  • Recovery - redo log

new to oracle and need advice,
how to recover oracle when online redo log files are deleted.
DB is in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode. Its been running for three months. No backups of any kind available.
DB was "shutdown immediate" for server maintenance(all changes should be in datafiles).
All dbf (system other tablespaces etc) files except the-online-redo logs are preesnt and good. redo log files got deleted. How to recover.

IF the SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE was successful and was able to properly dismount and close the database, you can startup the database with a sequence as :
    startup mount
    recover database until cancel;
    cancel
alter database open resetlogs; This is because
    a. You need to recreate the online redo logs
    b. Recreating the online redo logs is done only by an OPEN RESETLOGS operation
    c. An OPEN RESETLOGS operation is permitted only after recovery that is either
    i. an Incomplete Recovery
    ii. using a Backup controlfile
In your case, the "recover database until cancel" simulates an Incomplete Recovery. The subsequent CANCEL command tells Oracle not to apply any redo logs. Thereafter, you can OPEN RESETLOGS.
Note : As I said, this is doable only if the SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE was proper and complete. A Shutdown Immediate does not require subsequent Instance Recovery -- ergo, it does not require Redo Logs for the subsequent OPEN.

  • How to delete old logs in SAP BI, what is the best way to go?

    Hi,
below are the issues we are facing,
when executing infopackage job is not getting triggred into source system.
for activation DSO data it is taking huge time. At the time of seqential read to RSREQDONE table.
I think this is due to huge logs in the staandard tables.
What could be the reson behind this.. and let me know how to delete old logs.
    Thanks,
    Harish

    Hi,
just carry out RSRV for DSO PSA tables and see if there is inconsistency available there in the PSA table.
see if the change log and PSA deletion is happening regularly..else schedule same in PC
check with basis there are certain jobs which needs to run regularly at certain frequency..

Can't back up my Iphone5 to my macbook pro, it tells me it may be corrupted, also I don't know how to delete the old backup to redo it

    Hi Caveman337,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below will explain how to delete an old iTunes backup.  Before you do this, I would suggest creating an iCloud backup of your iPhone.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977
    Back up using iCloud
If you're using iCloud, it can automatically back up your content. Use these steps to turn on iCloud Backup:
Tap Settings > iCloud > Backup. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Tap iCloud Backup to turn it on.
    Tap Back Up Now.
After you turn on iCloud Backup, iCloud will back up your content automatically. You can return to this screen to see when the last back up happened.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4946
    Where your backups are stored
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Delete a backup
If you want to delete a backup created by iTunes:
    Open iTunes Preferences:
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences. Learn how to turn on menus in Windows 7 and 8.
Click Devices. (The iOS device doesn't need to be connected.)
iTunes will show the phone number, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, and serial number of the backed up iPhone when you position your mouse pointer over a backup. (Only the serial number will be shown for iPad and iPod touch). You can use this to find the backup you want to delete.
Select the backup you want to remove.
    Click Delete Backup.
When prompted, confirm that you want to remove the selected backup by clicking Delete Backup.
Click OK to close the iTunes Preferences Window.
Backups that have a date and time stamp in the backup name are copies of backups created by restoring the iOS device. The date and time in the left column are when the restore-from-backup occurred. The date and time in the right column are the last synced date; this shows how current the data is.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Delete old and unused Archived Redo Log Files

    Hello forum!
My db was in ARCHIVELOG mode and It created 9GB of archived redo log files.
Now I put the db in NOARCHIVELOG mode, can I delete all the ARLF? am I sure that the DB never need those files in the future?
If yes, how can I delete them? I will use 'del' operative system command?
In addition, I found this command:
    SQL>alter database open resetlogs;
is it useful for my purpose?
    thank you!

You are safe to remove those archivelog files if you altered your database to no archive log mode. Just remove them from OS level
Please bear in mind that database in no archivelog mode will lost data in the event of disaster.
SQL>alter database open resetlogs;Doesn't help in your situation, it's use to bring up database after incomplete recovery.
