Omniportlet and web cache

I am setting up the omniportlet. I get the following message:
Web Cache Invalidation default config file not defined by oracle.http.configfile
REASON:
oracle.http.configfile system property is not defined when you start OC4J
Does anyone have a clue as to what this means? What is oracle.http.configfile and why won't my OC4J find it?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. It is in my mid-tier.
I tried to follow the document, and I am getting that my Webcache service hung on starting.
I am on NT, and I have three entries for webcache
1. WebCache
2. WebCacheAdmin
3. WebCacheMon
Before I starting messing with this, the WebCache and WebCacheAdmin would come up. I went into WebCache Admin and selected AutoRestart, which I believe is what is supposed to start WebCacheMon. Is this necessary? Is this what runs on port 4001 (Invalidator Port)?
The reason I ask is because in the notes for setting up the webcache sample provider it says the url to register the provider is
http://<cache_instance_name>:<cache_port>/jpdk/providers/webcache. This is different from what you normally see, which is http://<provider_hostname>:<port>/jpdk/providers/webcache.
I don't know what to use for cache_instance_name or cache_port. I thought that was the invalidator port of 4001, but I am not sure.
Thank you.

    Hi Ken --
We are just about wrapped up with our Oracle9iAS Release 2 (9.0.3) version for Windows NT. As you've seen, we have released the 903 version for a number of Unix platforms (Solaris, HP-UX, HP-Tru64, Linux) already and the Windows platform will follow shortly.
For the moment, if you're running on Windows and want to use the J2EE 1.3 functionality, you can download the pure Java OC4J 903 distribution available from OTN. This is the same set of Java code that is the 9iAS distribution.
    cheers

  • Oracle9iAS J2EE and Web Cache

    Hi!
I'm using Oracle9iAS J2EE and Web Cache on my Sun Solaris 5.8 and when I try to Log on to Oracle Enterprise Manager on port 1810 from my Windows 2000 browser I have this error:
    Servlet error: Renderer failed:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
To correct I must do this:
    $emctl stop
    $emctl start
After that I'm able to log on to OEM but if I do some modifications or wait too long I will received the same error again:
    Servlet error: Renderer failed:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
Can you tell me what is the problem ?
    Thank's

Do you have the DISPLAY environment variable set correctly? This error is typically seen if the EM Website is unable to connect to an X-Server.

  • Setting OF LD_LIBRARY_PATH AND WEB CACHE PROBLEM [SHOWING PREVIOUS PAGE ]

    Dear Members,
I would request for help regarding setting of LD_LIBRARY_PATH in Oracle 11G Application server and web cache problem when any single text file edit and save the result should not be changed . it shows previous page result.
    *1. Where to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH in Oracle11g Application Server (10.3.0) ? [  like in 9ias we set in opmn.xml . ] Where is opmn.xml file in oracle11g or which files contained LD_LIBRARY_PATH?*
*2. When we created program generated report it shows correct result after some changes in file and generate again it shows first means previous page result as it is not take changes in that file. Even we tried out side made one .text file and open edit and save. It's given same result. So What is the problem regarding it?*
It is the matter of  Browser Cache or WEB Cache. Where is the settings of it?
*3. How to connect database (oracle11g Release 2) through OCI driver?*
    Regards
    Vipul Patel

If you're compiling it yourself, you should set the library path then. If not, you can try something like this:
    env DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH:/path/to/add-on-libraries orca ...
but I'm not sure it will work.

    Hello ,
    Try Below Workarounds:
    Workaround 1:
    Open Central Admin
    àApplication Management  à
Configure Alternate access mapping-->Edit your web application zone and add your server name in Intranet zone. So default can be serverIP and intranet could be servername.
    Workaround 2:
Might be there is some issue with DNS and try to check that WebApplication is pointing to correct IP or not.
Also try to access your Sharepoint site using ip Address .. If you still gets error Kindly share the logs ..
    Best

  • Forms/Reports: Role of the Database cache and Web cache

    Hello oracle experts,
I am running a purely Forms and Reports based environment (9iAS).
    My question are:
    a. Is it possible to use features from the Web Cache and
Database Cache to boost the performance of my applications?
    b. Are all components monitorable from the OEM?
Please guide me so that i can configure my OEM to monitor my
    forms and reports services.
thanks in advance for your reply
    Kind regards
    Yogeeraj

    Hi BradW,
The way this is supposed to be done in Web Cache is by keeping separate copies of a cached page for different types of browsers distinguished by User-Agent header.
In case of cache miss, Web Cache expects origin servers to return appropriate version of the page based on browser type, and the page from the origin server is just forwarded back to browser.
Here, if the page is cacheable, Web Cache retains a separate copy for each type of User-Agent header value.
And when there is a hit on this cached page, Web Cache returns the version of page with the User-Agent header that matches the request.
Check out the config screen titled "Header Association" for this feature.
About forwarding requests to different origin servers based on User-Agent header value, Web Cache does not have such capability.

  • OTN Forums uses ESI and Web Cache

For the curious, the OTN Forums application uses Web Cache 9.0.2 and ESI -- I think since April.
We'll be preparing some case studies on Oracle's use of Web Cache for various customer-facing sites
over the next couple of months, so I'll be able to share more info then.

The Discoverer development team is currently making a few adjustments to Discoverer Viewer so it can work seamlessly with WebCache. You may see this functionality in 4.1.39, otherwise it will be in 9iAS release 2.

  • Deploy differences between 904 standalone and 903 J2EE and Web cache versio

I am trying to port an application from jboss (3.0.3) to OAS 9iAS rel2. Since the application uses local interfaces in the EJBs, I am using the pre-release versions of OAS. My development environment also include ant and xdoclet. I am not using JDeveloper or TopLink and would prefer not to due to the different targets we are using.
I have successfully portet to the 9.0.4 OC4J (standalone) version. In doing so I have collected all my EJB-class files in one jar, appName-ejb.jar, which along with the war-file and META-INF files go in the ear-file. Attempting to deploy this ear-file directly in 9.0.3 "J2EE and Webcache" version gives me the following error message in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console: "Deployment failed: Nested exception Root Cause: Syntax error in source. Syntax error in source"
The how-to:Implement Local Interface (cmplocal) also use a single jar-file, cmplocal-ejb.jar. The description is targeted toward OC4J standalone. I have not attempted to deploy this ear-file in the "j2ee and webcache" version.
The Petstore demo ear-file (ref: "O9iAS Containers for J2EE User's Guide (9.0.3)") has all its beans in separate jar-files and deploys without any problems. The documentation also indicate that all beans has to be in separate jar-files in the root of the ear-file i.e this is a requirement. Do I understand the documentation correctly?
Why the difference between the standalone version and the next version? Does not the possibility having to maintain a a large number of bean-jar-files in the root of the ear-file make development/deployment much more difficult than necessary?
    Does there exist any batch-workarounds?

Don't want to go through the trouble of installing/configuring webcache unless my applications will benefit from it....

  • Need help resolving Web Cache upgrading error

I successfully installed 10g AS on top of my 9i AS (9.0.3) on a different Oracle home. Then I proceeded to run the Upgrade Assistant (iasua.bat). Everything went well except the upgrade of Web Cache failed. I'm only installing/upgradeing the J2EE and Web Cache. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I'm running on XP SP2.
the following are the lines in iasua.log related to the error:
2007/04/04 21:10:22.890 GMT NOTIFICATION:1 Framework: Starting to upgrade WebCache.
2007/04/04 21:10:23.515 GMT ERROR:1 WebCache: Invalid element 'MULTIVERSIONHEADERSRULE' in content of 'CACHEABILITYRULE', expected elements '[SELECTORS]'.

What that means is Silverlight can't find a required component.
When I clicked on the site, it loaded pretty slow but I got to see the login screen without error.
Either the expected dll is cached on my machine or you have an intermittent problem.
As I'm a some-time Silverlight developer I could well have necessary dll if they are standard components.
    As an outside chance...
You could try clearing your cache in case it's a versioning issue.
Failing  that, I suppose you could maybe install the Silverlight and blend sdk.
One thing you could easy try.
Does Silverlight work for you generally?
Follow the link on this page:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/30387.silverlight-trouble-shooting-installs.aspx
If that errors then it's the install on your machine.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using Web Cache to Load balance Forms Server application.

    Hello,
I apologize for cross posting this question in the Forms and Caching Services forum. But I thought my question will have a better chance.
I have read that it's possible to use Oracle Web Cache as a software load balancer between multiple Application Servers.
We are running Oracle9iAS R1.0.2.2.2a, with Forms/Reports6i servers on 2 Win2k boxes i.e our Forms6i application is deployed on two seperate boxes in two distinct locations. Users at each location, use their respective App Server url.
Since the application is the same i.e. Forms6i code/fmx is the same for both locations, I am looking into loadbalancing and failover capability that Web Cache might be able to provide.
I AM ONLY LOOKING AT THE LOADBALANCING & FAILOVER capabilities and NOT caching.
So basically all users from both locations will point their browser to this Web Cache and the Web Cache will direct each connection to either of the two boxes. So, if either of the boxes dies, Web Cache will divert the requests to the other box.
My concern is whether Web Cache supports this for the Forms requests that it will receive from the users. We are using Servlet Deployment of Forms, so technically, all communication is going though the HTTPD.
Has anyone done this or has any ideas as to whether it's going to work or not? Oracle's FAQ insists that Forms is not supported. But I want to make sure that even loadbalancing is not supported. And if not supported then is there any other solution.
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Manish

Using Web Cache to load balance servlet-based Forms (6i and 9i) is unofficially supported. I say "unofficially" because we have actual customers doing it and getting support, but the 2 development teams (Forms and Web Cache) haven't actually done any integration testing of this sort of configuration yet. For your case, please contact your Support rep and ask what was done to use Web Cache as a load balancer for Forms6i at METRO in Germany. The Forms product managemment team is writing up a white paper to describe how to do it, but until then, you'll need to go through Support. Please contact me if you want more information.

  • Is it possible to enable Web Cache gzip compression for 9iAS Disco Viewer?

    Hi,
Sorry for repeating this question. But it's very urgent and we don't have any idea yet how to solve / work around it:
To keep it short: Is it possible to use Web Cache gzip compression for pages rendered by 9iAS Discoverer Viewer???
Our scenario: We have some Discoverer Worksheets which we want to access by ISDN dial in (64 kbit/sec). An average page needs 2 minutes only for sending the html/javascript output rendered by Disco Viewer to the client browser.
To speed up the response time when users use this slow connection, we want to activate Web Cache gzip compression.
The problem: But even when we enable Web Cache for Discoverer (configuration.xml and Web Cache rules), Web Cache doesn't compress pages generated by Discoverer Viewer. We found out that the generated responses contain the "content-disposition" HTTP-Header entry. Are we correct that this is the reason why there is no gzip compression? AND DOES ANYONE KNOW A WORKAROUND (p.e. configure Disco not to add the content-disposition http header)???
    Best regards,
    Matthias Scherer

    Matthias,
Have you raised this as a TAR with Oracle Support? If you've got a specific question, and you need a definitive answer, raising a TAR is the best way to proceed.

When you set the caching rules, you can also specify whether or not you want the pages to be compressed. Web Cache compresses html pages and relies on the accept-encoding: gzip from the client header to determine whether or not to send the content compressed.
