On my new laptop FF won't open my homepage until I sign in to yahoo

FF goes to the correct address, but a box comes up that says ff will not allow the page to load. There is a sign in box for me to sign in to "my,yahoo.com" and then it goes to the homepage. The address for my homepage is correct, but will not load until I sign in. This never has happened on my desktop. How can I get around this? Every time I leave and come back, I have go do this.

.itl file is locked error after installing new build - iTunes won't open

After upgrading to the new build itunes won't open. I receive an error message "The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." When I check permissions I have full control. I tried uninstalling all apple components - iTunes, Quicktime, apple updater - rebooting and then reinstalling but the same error message comes up when I try to start itunes.

Even after uninstalling the .itl file remained in my itunes music folder. I deleted this file after uninstalling again and then reinstalled and the issue was resolved.

Then you have two version of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.x is in your Applications folder.
Pages '08/'09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.

Try:
Reset the iOS device (no data will be lost). Press and hold the Home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears. See if the problem persists after the device reboots (it might take a while).
Download any free app, and then see if any of the other apps, after being re-downloaded, will open.

Safari won't open company homepage

Safari won't open our homepage on iMac 10.6.8. it will open in other web browsers.
if you google our company and click on the listing, it does NOT work either.

Works for me. Please enable guest logins and log in as Guest. Launch Safari and test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and disable it if you wish.

Brand new macbook air won't open or save pdf's

FIles display pdf icon but it says it won't open "because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged and may be corrupted" etc. I then installed adobe reader and still get same issue, I've downloaded several pdf's from different sources (old macbook and web, stored files I know are not damaged)
I'm running mac osx 10.7.3
my java is SE 6 64/32 version 1.6.0._31-b04-415 if that makes any difference (read java could be a factor)
pdf's will open from the web in safari but won't save like normal "save as" menu would, it says
"The document “Test_File.pdf” could not be exported as “Test_File.pdf”."
very annoying issue as I use pdf's daily, any help greatly appreciated

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Downloaded new version now won't open!!

I downloaded the new version of Itunes tonight having just got hooked back up to broadband. However it now won't open at all saying there is a problem with audio configuration. It doesn't actually tell me what that problem is however and reinstalling does nothing. I don't want to have to remove and reinstall completely as I'd lose all the songs in my library!!
Is this my only option or does anyone have any ideas?

The previous version, is not deleted when Pages 5 is installed, just moved to Applications/iWork folder.
The icons on the dock remain.
Have you actually looked in your Applications folder for the new version?
Any documents created by Pages 5 need to be opened by Pages 5.

New post - GB won't open files

My original question asked about re-installing GB 11. I was able to do that, but the original problem still persists: GB 11 won't open any existing files, even if they were just created, saved, and closed. The error message is unhelpful: 'The document “My Song 3” could not be opened.' Nothing more, no error code, nothing. I've reinstalled GB 11, and updated it to 6.0.1. After that didn't work, I deleted the plist for it, so it would create a new one the next time I started up GB. That didn't work either.
So, I can create and save a project / file. But I can't open old or newly-saved files. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm having what sounds like a similar problem. Last night I was putting together a video and needed to modify an audio track to put with it. I opened garageband '11 and imported the song from iTunes, modified the track and then exported it to iTunes. I did this a couple times and then the third time when I exported it my speakers stopped working, all I'd get was a crackle. They wouldn't work with anything (iTunes, Internet, garageband...) so I shut down the projects restarted the computer and after the restart the speakers worked fine. Now when I open garageband I can choose a file type and create it but then it comes up with "The file couldn't be opened" message and that's all. The file shows up in the folder but it can't be opened. I did the repair permissions and I deleted the .plist and .cs file. After trying to open a new file again I checked and there was a new .plist file bit I couldn't find a .cs file, don't know if that important or not. I also tried garageband with a different user account and it worked fine there, but I would really like to get it working on my main user account again. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 7 - Downloaded new itunes and won't open

Just upgraded to the new itunes and every time I click on it, nothing happens. No errors, no issues, just won't open or anything. Even tried uninstalling old versions and now none of them will work?!

Hello and thanks so much for your quick reply. I am at a standstill, because I have done those things already and it has not worked. The repair install procedure seemed to take place quickly, but the same thing happened again when I tried to uninstall it the program after that.... It seems to proceed, then the progress bar goes backward, and there it still is!
When I downloaded the Microsoft Fixit program and asked it to uninstall the Apple Mobile device Support, it started but then got stuck and I had to shut my computer off, as it froze everything up!
I'm hoping you can help..... This seems to be a problem with the new version, and it's frustrating, because I can't use Itunes on my computer at all till we find a solution.
Perhaps if I try to restore my computer to before the Itunes 11.1.4 uodate?

Have you tried closing that app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag that app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset and see if it works when your phone has rebooted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.
A third option is to delete the app from your phone and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app.
If it still doesn't work then try contacting the developer.

I have a new 15" MacBookPro and cannot open iPhoto. The message reads "You can't open the application iPhoto because it is not supported on this type of Mac." I used Migration Assistant which moved over the applications yesterday -- took over 5 hours and didn't move the documents at all.
After reading in some posts somewhere that iLife '09 needed to be purchased separately, I took out my iLife family pack, and ran the install for it on the new MacBook Pro.
I tried to install iLife Support 9.0.3 but got a message that "This update does not need to be installed. A newer version of this software is already installed." Garageband boots up fine.
There is only one iPhoto application installed and it is version 8.1.2. Says it's an Application (PowerPC)
Is my Mac defective?? Is there an explanation or a fix for this?

Why did you do that? iLife (including iPhoto) comes preinstalled on all new systems - moving iPhoto from another computer is not necessary and does not work

Did you delete the iPhoto receipts ("your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) prior to doing this install?

It is possible that the iPhoto application is just fine and it is only your library - to test that depress the option key and launch iPhoto - create a new library and import a few photos into it and test it - if that works then the application is ok - to switch back to the main library you will need to repeat the option - launch.
Once you have the iPhoto application straightened out, It it likely that your iPhoto library did not transfer correctly - Migration assistance does not always do a good job on the iPhoto library - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

New laptop, iTunes won't sync music onto iPhone 4

I recently got a new laptop (acer) and I wanted to put my music from my phone onto it. I downloaded and installed iTunes, the only songs I had on it were what I brought from iTunes. So I transfered everything from my phone (iPhone 4) onto it. Problem #1. It only transfered the music I had brught from iTunes. No cds I had put onto iTunes transfered. So using a USB, I transferred all of the music I had on my iMac to my my laptop - I put it in the iTunes Media/Music folder of my documents. It didn't go into iTunes, until I dragged it directly from the folder and placed it in iTunes. That was that problem solved. I tried syncing my music and none it it would play. It was all grey writing and had a pink square next to the song name. Nothing worked, excpet for the songs I had brought directly from iTunes. Not even albums I had recently brought and put into my itunes would work.. That was problem #2. Thing is though, after I synced the music onto my, I got a notification on iTunes saying that there were 23 errors and some songs could not be found. These songs were the songs that I brought from iTunes, and could actually play from my phone.
I've tried updating both iTunes and my phone software, turning my phone on and off, deleteing and reinstalling iTunes. Everything I can thinnk of but nothing will work. I really just want to play my music from my phone... It'll play in iTunes, but just not from my phone.
Please help!

this is happening to me as well. I have tried every single "fix" out there that I can find.
I have restored my phone from backups.
I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it on my comp
I have restore to factory settings and started from scratch
literally nothing is working.
