One MP3 collection - four PC's

We keep all our MP3's on a network file server so it's up 24/7 and we don't need to have separate copies of our music collection on every PC in the house. We have about 1300 CD's in our collection and so far we've ripped about a third of them and rip a few dozen more every day.
After ripping them into our file server we do an "Add files to Library" in each copy of iTunes. And then it has to do the album artwork and the "determining gapless playback" nonsense and all the other rigamarole.
Is there any way to just do this on ONE PC and propagate that update to the other copies of iTunes?
Or is there any way to put the iTunes library files on the network server so all the iTunes on all the PC's can share the same one so we don't have to duplicte the work every time we add a new song?
We have 4 PC's - two desktops and two laptops.

It can be held on a networked drive - or at least, it can with a Mac. I haven't tried it with a PC. Either way, it requires some hacking. I'll explain how to do it on a Mac and hopefully you can adapt the instructions for the PC (I don't actually use my PC for iTunes).
Firstly, find your iTunes data folder. There will be one for each of the users on your computer. Drag it to the external drive that you wish to use for your iTunes Library. Next make an alias (shortcut) to the folder and copy the shortcut to each user folder in place of the iTunes folder that was there already. It must have exactly the same name. This is where the trick may fall over on a PC - because folders have no extension and shortcuts, I think, do. Using this technique, all users will have access to all of iTunes functionality - but only one user will be able to use iTunes at any one time (because the database file is locked by iTunes when iTunes opens).
Alternatively, you could just put your music on the network disk and tell iTunes to access it's music from there. (Preferences -> Advanced -> iTunes Music Folder location). All users can access the Music - but, because the database isn't shared, if one user adds music then the other users won't be able to see it in iTunes until they import it too.
If all this seems like a bit of a nuisance and a black spot on iTunes otherwise good name, then I can't say that I'll disagree with you. It's an absolute pest.

  • How do I join multiple mp3 files into one mp3 file?

    Hello,
I have multiple mp3 files that I would like to join into one mp3 file and to use it as an audio book. This explains how to do it, but in iTunes 12, I do not see an option called "Part of a Compilation" option.
Is there a way to do it in iTunes without installing a new app?
    Thank you.

    Eugene,
Those instructions, if I read them correctly, are about how to collect several MP3s into a single audiobook.  They will not create a single continuous MP3.
iTunes does not have the ability to combine multiple MP3s into a single MP3.  The best it can do is if you burn them to audio CD and then rip back with "Join Tracks" enabled.  The better way is to use an audio editor such as Audacity, or a special purpose combing tool such as MP3 Joiner.

  • Large mp3 collection painfully slow to open in Mus...

I know my mp3 collection is relatively large (full 16gb class 6 micro sd card) so I expect a bit of lag but im finding access to my mp3's on my E72 frustratingly slow.  For example opening my list of Artists isn't so bad but accessing an individual artists list of albums and then opening one of those albums to see the tracks is taking 10-15 seconds each at each step. This also applies when going back out from the list of tracks to the list of albums. Im happy with the music player in general but this one problem is driving me crazy. The only way I can get access music at an acceptable rate is by creating loads of playlists of songs I listen to most regularly but obviously this defeats the point a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve performance in this respect?

This too enfuriates me... amongst other slow response times from the phone in general.
Sometimes it lags on unlocking the phone, answering calls, opening messages can take up to 10-15 seconds... it is absolutely ridiculous.
I have also have a 16Gb card with 7Gb of music. I have two email accounts synchronising maybe once an hour. I have a feeling that this phone just isn't built well enough to handle what it claims it should be able to do.

  • Is there a way for a site owner to copy a custom calendar that resides on a site on one site collection to a site on another site collection?

A user contacted me about copying and moving information from an old site that is being retired to a new site.
The most important info is the department calendar.
I don't see a way to use the "Manage content and structure" functionality to copy or move a calendar from one site collection to another.
And site owners do not generally have enough permissions to create templates into the gallery.
Is this just not possible for him to do on his own?
    Thank you for your help!

I gave up and created templates for the site owner and created the corresponding list for them on the new site.
I was startled to discover that even though I said I wanted to include all content, the 4 columns that were of type "people picker" did not, for the most part, transfer.
So the columns will have to be manually entered. But at least the rest of the effort is done.

No. A book can only be moved to one collection at a time.

  • How to keep pre-existing MP3 collection organized in iTunes?

    Hi
I'm a new iPod user, but have been building my MP3 collection for 9 years or so now. My MP3 collection is organized by genre/artist/album/song on my computers file system. However after importing my files into iTunes so much of it is a mess. The directory structure is lost. There are many files that were duplicated, some songs aren't recognized by iTunes at all. And some songs are not kept within the album that they were a part of in my original collection.
Is there some reasonable way to reorganize iTunes? Of course since I've got my new iPod I've been downloading new songs so I can't really trash the directory where everything is messed up and start over again for fear of loosing my new songs that aren't in my original MP3 collection.
What is the best way to make things reasonable again? I sure would like to just keep things organized with the directory structure like I used to before.
    Thanks, Derek

Is there some reasonable way to reorganize iTunes?
Best way is to make sure all your ID3 tags are correct. iTunes uses the ID3 tags (Artist/Album/song name) to put them into these folders.
What is the best way to make things reasonable again?
Use iTunes, not a Finder window or directory structure, to organize everything.
iTunes will put the songs into Artist/Album folders.
If you use iTunes, no need to really worry about what iTunes names them or the folders they are in.

  • Multipe discussion boards within one site collection, each with their own email?

So we use several list servs and these have become an issue and the data is lost discussion based on you cannot collectively house and search for information and attachments.
I have a few questions that maybe you could help in my research:
    1) Is SharePoint discussions capable of having multiple discussion boards in one site collection, each with their own email address to replace the function of a list serv (so at a minimum content can be organized, with attachments available, and replies
    can be seen/sent via email.)
    2) From an attachment perspective; what is the best way to ensure virus blocking in the above scenario IF the above scenario is able to be done
    3) Is there OOTB functionality here or is there a recommended third party product? (I am not looking to build out a custom solution if at all possible to avoid that)
any thoughts or input here would be greatly appreciated!
    ~Kat

    1) - Yes, discussion boards are just specially formatted lists and yes, each discussion board can have their own email address.
    2) -  Blocked file types can be configured in CA and I believe that SP will strip out any emails with blocked file types attached (not 100% on that, probably 95% sure)
    3) All out of the box (assuming SP will block the attachments as I assumed in #2

  • Multiple album name for one mp3

is it possible to tag the one mp3 with multiple album names?eg.most artists have greatest hits albums with their studio albums so the itunes user has to choose which one to delete from the library thus causing one or the other album to be incomplete if you burn it to cd.
one mp3 file on hard drive with 2 album tags would be good as it would save part listings

This is not an iTunes specific issue it applies to all media managers (e.g WMP).
The meta tags in MP3 (or other formats) only let you tag it with a single album name. I understand what you are getting at as a specific track might be in an album and then reissued as part of a greatest hits, and then as for example part of a "Now That's What I Call Music Volume n" type album. Storing one copy would save space.
However the files do not have this capability and disk space is cheap so who cares?
It is also the case the often the tracks are very slightly different, you can see this when you search for a track on the iTunes Store and often you will get several results (from different albums) and they have slightly different durations. They may have been remixed or re-recorded by the band at a different date.

  • Managed Metadata values scrambled when copying or moving documents from one Site collection to another.

    Hi
What works: Copy or move a document library containing one or more MM columns *within* a Site Collection = all column managed metadata replicated accurately.
What doesn't work: Copy or move a document library containing one or more MM columns *from one Site Collection to another* within the same Webapp. The issue is that some but not all MM values are totally wrong. By totally wrong I mean that the incorrect
terms are associated with a TermSet that is not even referenced in this DL!
Same result for all method's tried:
    1) Save the DL as a template (no contents) and then copy or move the documents in
    2) Programmatically do the copy
    3) Export the list via CA and then reimporting it using Pshell
This thread is very similar but his workaround has not helped in this instance:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6aca7b7c-97cb-4f1f-99f1-5e1fa0b1e3ed/content-type-hub-custom-library-template-managed-metadata-lostscrambled-when-moving-files?forum=sharepointdevelopment#65b52342-408f-47b4-a9f8-5d0b952acc12
Has anyone else experienced this and found the cause/solution? Or can anyone do this without the issues that I have described?
    Thanks

    Hi Nuno,
I've got to the root of the issue but in answer to your question first: The MM column is attached to a Global Content Type - there is nothing local.
The fact that some are ok and others are not led me down the route of checking the columns at item level. Scripting this did not help - all rows returned are what I would expect. ie The same MMColName with the expected value (as appearing
    on the source DL).
On checking SharePoint manager however I have found what looks to be causing the issue.
When checking the properties (ie SiteCollection/Lists/<ListName>/items/<itemName>/Properties) of the 'good' documents against the 'bad' documents I find the following:
Good Docs: The MMColName is displayed as expected at the item level
    Field: Name
    Field:  Internal Name
    Item Properties:
    Ok?
    Partnership Type
    Partnership_x0020_Type
    Partnership Type
    Y
Bad Docs: The MMColName is NOT displayed as expected at the item level. Instead the internal name is displayed:
    Field: Name
    Field:  Internal Name
    Item Properties:
    Ok?
    Register Type
    Type_x0020_of_x0020_Licence
    Type_x0020_of_x0020_Licence
    N
    Meeting Type
    Meeting_x0020_Type
Meeting Type & Meeting_x0020_Type (Both columns are listed)
    N
I should add that each of these 3 examples are taken from 3 different DL's - hence the different Fields
So this looks to be a case of corruption - and unless we can think of any other outcome we will have to look to rebuild the DL - while trying to maintain the metadata!

  • Mapping one site collection to one record center

    hi,
i would like to map one site collection to one record center
    is it possible
assume , am having  10 site collections, and if i create 10 record center site collections , how can i map these 10  site collections to 10 record centers.
    help is appreciated!

    Hi  Benjamin,
Yes, you can map one site collection to one record center. Here is the steps you can refer to:
Configure Send to locations for your Records Centers.
Allow for sending outside the site.
Create Content Organizer Rule to send to a record center for your Site  Collections.
For more information, you can refer to the blog:

  • Alerts do not work on one site collection - Alerts have EventTypeBitmask of -1 - do you think this is the problem

I have a farm with approx 200 site collections in it.
We did recently move sites from one farm to another.  All other site collection alerts work,  Yet I have one site collection that just does not send alerts.
Things I have done to attempt to get them to work:
    1. Turn Alerts off and back on
stsadm -o setproperty -url "sitecollectionurl" -pn Alerts-enabled -pv False
stsadm -o setproperty -url "sitecollectionurl" -pn Alerts-enabled -pv True
    2. Update the alerts template
    stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url "sitecollectionurl" -f "c:\program files\path to \AlertTemplates.xml
    3. Update all the siteurl properties of all alerts to the correct url
    4. update all the mobilurl propties of all alerts to the correct url
    5. updated all the Alert.Titles
None of these have worked for me to get the alerts to start working
The only thing I see different is this EventTypeBitMask property.
Does anyone have any other suggestions to get alerts working on this site collection?
    Thank you for any help
    [email protected]

    Hi,
Whether all of the user can’t receive alert email in this site collection.
Check whether the "Immediate Alerts" time job is enabled for your web application.
Try to do restart SharePoint Timer services and IISReset.
Here are two articles about troubleshooting SharePoint alerts not working, you can use as a reference:

  • Enlarging one Chart out four charts

I have a dashboard framework in which four charts are displayed simultaneously.
On selection of one out of four charts, selected one should displayed in enlarged form.
How do I achieve this functionality using Xcelsius Engage Server 2008?

    Hi
You could use the Mouse Over functionality of an Icon component placed over each chart (Transparency = 100%), and use the icon's Checked/Unchecked properties to dynamically display the larger version of the chart.

  • How to apply eax effects with x-fi xtreme music on my mp3 collection?

Hi. I am new in pc audio but as I understand it, eax is hardware effect and can be applied only in real time to any audio source. I find amphitheatre effect fantastic so I would like to know if there is any way to record my mp3s with applied effect in order to listen them on my car audio player (it would be some kind of DSP option in a car). The easiest (and fastest) solution would be to use Adobe Auditon or some similar software but I want EAX. I tried to use "audio creation mode" and in "what you hear" mode, record in real time my mp3s with "enable eax" option checked but no effect was applied (I checked "monitor recording" mode). Any experiences? Thanks in advance.

Because of the EAX is in output, you'll need to use "What U Hear" as recording source to get the effect added into source. This means that you need to play the data using another software than which one you're using for recording. While I was using Audigy 2, this was quite eay to do but I don't know the X-Fi ... especially if you're using Vista. Another possible method is to record the output of your card ... loopback cable Front out --> Line-In, etc.
There are also other methods available but, you'll need then to use VST/DX plugins which gives you same/better results as what you would get from X-Fi DSP even it's maybe 24-bit chip (because of the 'resolution' of the final mp3 format you're thinking of (16-bit, 44.1kHz/48kHz, 320kbps). If your collection is already stored as mp3 format files then, it's quite hard work to add those effects ... you'll need some software that imports mp3 format then add the effect you like and then export to mp3 format.
Also, the car is quite different space from room+speakers and headphones so, I suggest you to prepare some examples 1st and play those in car enviroment to get the direction needed for settings to get best possible result.
