One physical table - levels problem....

Hi,
for demo purposes I have created a star schema in the business layer based on a single table content.
I have a problem with a logical dimension hierarchy in that if I ignore fields in the mapping it errors as the fields are not defined to the hierarchy, but if I map all fields then I get an error telling me that I have multiple keys.
I have checked the number of elements down the hierarchy and all is consistent.
I have checked that the LTS all have appropriate levels set. They do.
I can see nothing intrinsically wrong, is there some limitation when modelling from a single table?
thanks for any input,
Robert.

Thanks for the thought, have since sorted, the problem was down to physical keys - which was the last place I was focussed...

Hi,
I have 5 common dimension and 3 fact table which in the same subject area. When I want to display results from more then one fact table sending database then query more then one and I think BI server join this two different result on OBI server. But I think if obi server sending database query for exp. WITH SAWITH0 .... the results get effective.

I find solution on Oracle® Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition Release Notes.
If you use a version of Oracle Database 10g Release 2 prior to 10.2.0.3, then you might encounter an issue with a Full Outer Join that causes severe database performance issues and appears to hang the database when the Oracle BI Server sends to the database SQL queries that include WITH clauses.
To work around this issue when using Oracle Database 10g Release 1 or 2, upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Patch Set 2 (for 10.2.0.3). For performance reasons, this is the preferred workaround.
To work around this issue without installing Patch Set 2, modify the Database Features table using the Administration Tool. This configuration prevents the Oracle BI Server from sending SQL constructs that expose the issue in an unpatched Oracle Database 10g.
To modify the Database Features table:
In the Administration Tool, open the properties of the Physical Database metadata object.
Navigate to the Features tab.
Ensure the values for the PERF_PREFER_MINIMAL_WITH_USAGE and PERF_PREFER_INTERNAL_STITCH_JOIN entries are selected, that is, set to True.

• Problem: 1 physical table -- multiple logical table sources

Hi,
I'm quite new to BIEE and setting up my repository.
So I have a question, if the following scenario is possible:
Physical Layer: TABLE_A: COL_A, COL_B, COL_C
TABLE_B: COL_D, COL_E, COL_F
Join TABLE_A.COL_A = TABLE_B.COL_D
In Business Model I have a Dimension Table with TABLE_A as datasource with fields DIM1 (COL_B).
The Fact Table (MEASURE) would have twice TABLE_B as data source with different where-clauses on COL_F and logical table columns (ATT1 and ATT2) of value COL_E.
So far I have created everything and the consistency check shows no errors or warnings, but I get an error in Answer: Incorrectly defined logical table source (for fact table MEASURE) does not contain mapping for [MEASURE.ATT1, MEASURE.ATT2], when I creating an report showing DIM1, ATT1, ATT2.
Isn't it possible to have one physical column used as multiple data source?
I know it 's working, when I create the physical table twice ... but maybe there's a solution for business model.
Thanks
chrissy

Hi mengesh,
that's what I also tried, but it's always returning me the same error.
I know it would work, when I import the physical table twice or more, but that's not what I want to do, because at the end I have 10 or more fields based on this one physical table. There's one field indicating what value is contained in the record, this means:
COL_F | COL_E
1 | customer name
2 | customer number
3 | customer branche
4 | salesman
5 | date
6 | report number
etc.
I don't think it's usefull to import the physical table as often as I need this field. So I want to divide it in business model.
thanks
chrissy

• Create temporary table to physical table.

i have created one physical table using temporary table. columns are like this create hi table as(no number, name varchar2(20), da date));
again do some transaction in my DB i need insert the temporary table values to physical table IF the no,name, date is same add the values into table.

What is your 4 digit Oracle version?
You can use a MERGE to do that
MERGE INTO permTable P
USING (SELECT a, b, c FROM tempTable) T
ON (P.no = T.no AND P.name = T.name AND P.da = T.da)
WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET P.a = T.a, P.b = T.b, P.c = T.c;See Merging into a Table: Example at the end of the MERGE section in the SQL Reference

• One-to-many relationship: problem with several tables on the one side...

Hello
I'm having problems developing a database for a content management system. Apart from details, I've got one main table, that holds the tree structure of the content ("resources") and several other tables that contain data of a particular datatype ("documents", "images", etc.). Now, there's one-to-many relationship between "resources" table and all the datatype tables - that is, in the "resources" table there's "resource_id" column, being a foreign key referenced to the "id" columns in the datatype tables.
The problem is that this design is deficient. I can't tell form the "resource_id" column from which datatype table to get the data. It seems to me that one-to-many relationship only works with two tables. If the data on the one side of the relationship is contained in several tables, problems arise.
Anybody knows a solution? I would be obliged.

• Problem in Summing the value in one internal table. Its very urgent.

Hi Experts,
I have 10 fields in one internal table and based on the 8th field changing, I have to sum the 3rd field.
I am unable to use AT END OF <FIELD8>, because any of the fields from 1 to 7 are changing, then this control break statement triggering.
Could any body tell me, how I have to do this.
Thanks,

Hi,
I think it could be as simple as below.
DATA: l_field8 TYPE bla bla.
READ TABLE itab
INTO wa_itab
INDEX 1.
l_field8 = wa_itab-field8.
LOOP AT itab INTO wa_itab.
IF l_field8 NE wa_itab-field8.
"Do the sum here
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.

• Dimension on Aliased Physical Table

Hi,
Simplified example of my problem.
I have two tables; -
journals
balances
Both of these are the fact tables connected various dimension tables.
One of these is code combinations, which has cost centres, expense types etc. This is used by both fact folders, by means of aliasing the physical table to pull it into the latterly created of the two business areas for balances.
This works fine, until I try to create a dimension against the code combination folder.
Then I get -
ERRORS:
BUSINESS MODEL Balances:
[nQSError: 15001] Could not load navigation space for subject area Balances.
[nQSError: 15019] Table Code Combinations is functionally dependent upon level Cost Centre, but a more detailed child level has associated columns from that same table or a more detailed table.
n.b. I do not want to run reports against multiple FACTS but as soon as I create a dimension on the aliased physical table the dimension points at the original physical table as its source - which I cannot change - and not its aliased version which is my desired action.
Anyone tell me where I am going wrong please??? (the dimension is large, I do not want to have to create multiple copies of the data in the underlying data warehouse)
thanks,
Robert.

Hi angel,
If i got your question right,
> I create a dimension on the aliased physical table the dimension points at the original physical table as its source ,and not its aliased version which is my desired action.
Definately it would point to the original table when you refer it as its source is that.
An idea can you partition the code combination table into 2 that is cost centres as one single table and expense type as 1 single table .So that way u can create dimension on the one desired.
Cheers,
KK

• Using multiple physical tables in a single logical dimension table

I have two physical tables that are related on a 1 to 1 basis based on a natural key. One of these tables is already part of my RPD file (actually, it is the W_EMPLOYEE_D from the Oracle BI Applications). The second table contains additional employee attributes from a custom table added to the data warehouse. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to display ANY data from this newly added custom table! I'm running on OBIEE 11.1.1.6.
Here's what I've tried to do. Lets call the original table E1 and the new one E2. E1 is part of the repository already, and has functioned perfectly for years.
- In my physical model, I have imported E2 and defined the join between E1 and E2.
- In my logical table for E1, I've mapped E2 to E1 (E2 appears as a source), set up an INNER JOIN in the joins section for E1 and added the attributes from E2 in the folder
- In the SOURCES for this logical table, I've set the logical level of the content for E2 appropriately (detail level, same as E1)
- In my presentation folder for E1, I've copied in the attributes from E2 that were included in my logical table
Consistency check runs smoothly, no warnings or errors. Note: E2 contains hundreds of rows, all of which have matching records in E1.
Now, when I create an analysis that includes only an attribute sourced from E2, I get a single row returned, with a NULL value. If I create an analysis that includes one attrribute from E1 and one from E2, I get all the valid E1 records with data showing, but with NULL for the E2 attributes. Remember, I have an inner join, which means that the query is "seeing" E2 data, it is just choosing not to show it to me! Additionally, I can grab the query from the NQQuery.log file - when I run this SQL in SQL*Developer, I get PERFECT results - both E1 and E2 attributes show up in the SQL - the query engine is generating valid SQL. The log file does not indicate there are any errors either; it does show the correct number of rows being added to cache. If I create a report that includes attributes from E1, E2 and associated fact metrics I get similar results. The reports seem to run fine, but all my E2 attributes are NULL in Answers. I've verified basics, like data types, etc. and when I "Query Related Objects" in the repository, everything looks consistent across all 3 layers and all objects. E2 is located in the same (Oracle) database and schema as E1, and there are no security constraints in effect.
I've experimented with a lot of different things without success, but I expected that the above configuration should have worked. Note that I cannot set up E2 as a new separate dimension, as it does not contain the key value used to join to the facts, nor do the facts contain the natural key that is in both E1 and E2.
Sorry for the long post - just trying to head off some of the questions you might have.
Any ideas welcomed! Many thanks!
Eric

Hi Eric,
I would like you to re-check on the content level settings here as they are the primary causes of this kind of behavior. You could notice that the same information might have written down in the logical plan of the query too.
Also, as per your description
"In the SOURCES for this logical table, I've set the logical level of the content for E2 appropriately (detail level, same as E1)"
I would like to check on this point again, as if you had mapped E2 to E1 in the same logical source with an inner join, you would get to set the content level at E1 levels themselves but not E2 (Now, that E2 would become a part of the E1 hierarchy too). This might be the reason, the BI Server is choosing to elimiate(null) the values from E2 too (even you could see them in the sql client)
Hope this helps.
Thank you,
Dhar

• Dynamic physical table name vs. Cache

Hello, Experts!
I'm facing quite an interesting problem. I have two physical tables with the same structure but with a different data. Requirement is to show same reports with one or another table. Idea is to have dynamically changed physical table name with session variable usage. Session variable can be change in UI so it was working until cache was turned on. When cache is turned on logical statements sent to OBI backend are the same even for different values of session variable that stores physical table name. Once cache is populated every users will get values from cache. This is possible source of discrepancy because some users might run reports with tableA values and some with tableB values.
Are there any options to set OBI to use data related to proper physical table name (i.e. accordingly to session variable value)? Model clone is not an option because it will be way to hard and complex to maintain both, beside same reports need to work sometimes with one table name and sometimes with other...
PS. Cache is set to be common for all users.
Lucas

thank you, I've found another way to make it running. In fact there are two ways of doing it: filter LTS and have all data filtered from single table with session variable or use fragmentation content also with session variable.
Now tricky part is to set variable from UI, currently I'm using issue raw sql: call NQSSetSessionValue( 'String SV_SIGNOFF=aaa;' ) but I have to figure out how to change session non system variable value without need of administrator user rights.
There is GoURL method, but it's not working...
2. Add In ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/web/display/authenticationschemas.xml
<RequestVariable source="url" type="informational" nameInSource="lang"
biVariableName="NQ_SESSION.LOCALE" />
inside the top <AuthenticationSchemaGroup> </AuthenticationSchemaGroup> tag

• "Select" Physical table as LTS for a Fact table

Hi,
I am very new to OBIEE, still in the learning phase.
Scenario 1:
I have a "Select" Physical table which is joined (inner join) to a Fact table in the Physical layer. I have other dimensions joined to this fact table.
In BMM, I created a logical table for the fact table with 2 Logical Table Sources (the fact table & the select physical table). No errors in the consistency check.
When I create an analysis with columns from the fact table and the select table, I don't see any data for the select table column.
Scenario 2:
In this scenario, I created an inner join between "Select" physical table and a Dimension table instead of the Fact table.
In BMM, I created a logical table for the dimension table with 2 Logical Table Sources (the dimension table & the select physical table). No errors in the consistency check.
When I create an analysis with columns from the dimension table and the select table, I see data for all the columns.
What am I missing here? Why is it not working in first scenario?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SP

Hi,
If I understand your description correctly, then your materialized view skips some dimensions (infrequent ones). However, when you reference these skipped dimensions in filters, the queries are hitting the materialized view and failing as these values do not exist. In this case, you could resolve it as follows
1. Create dimensional hierarchies for all dimensions.
2. In the fact table's logical sources set the content tabs properly. (Yes, I think this is it).
When you skipped some dimensions, the grain of the new fact source (the materialized view in this case) is changed. For example:
Say a fact is available with the keys for Product, Customer, Promotion dimensions. The grain for this is Product * Customer * Promotion
Say another fact is available with the keys for Product, Customer. The grain for this is Product * Customer (In fact, I would say it is Product * Customer * Promotion Total).
So in the second case, the grain of the table is changed. So setting appropriate content levels for these sources would automatically switch the sources.
So, I request you to try these settings and let me know if it works.
Thank you,
Dhar

• Multiple Data Sources In One Logical Table

I am new to OBIEE and I have came accross an issue. I appologize if this information is in the forum somewhere but I have searched and cannot find it.
My situation is that I would like to have one logical table that contains multiple data sources which have all the same columns. I already have session variables setup to differentiate the user's security through a row-wise variable for a specific column and a session variable for another column which determines the user's association to the data source in which they belong to. This security works well when the data sources are seperated in the Business Model and Mapping portion but the issue that arises is that the user's cannot share reports when the data sources are seperated in the BM&M.
I have dragged and dropped a table from the Physical model to the BM&M, I then dragged the second data source (with same meta data structure) over to the "Sources" folder in the first data source table in the BM&M. On the Content tab or each data source table I have defined the WHERE clause as such, where VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."SCHOOL") session variable is my row-wise column filter and the VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."GROUP") filter is my data source determinative:
sandbox."".SANDBOX.OBIEE_CROSS_ENROLLMENTS.HOME_SCHOOL = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."SCHOOL") AND sandbox."".SANDBOX.OBIEE_CROSS_ENROLLMENTS.DATA_SOURCE = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."GROUP")
Unfortunatley this only returns values in the BI Answers for the first drag and drop Pysical table in the BM&M layer and not the second Physical table drug into the "Sources" folder. I have also tried to create a new logical table and drag both tables into the "Sources" folder to no avail. I have experimented with the Fragmentation content on the "Content" tab of the seperate logical tables, checking the "This source should be combined with other sources at this level", which gives me an error in BI Answers that a column does not exist which really does.
What could I be missing? Advanced thanks to those who reply.
Thank you,
Kyle

Stijn,
Thank you for the article link. That was very helpful! It seems that I had a few things off as you do need the "This source should be combined with other sources at this level." checked. In my two table source columns for DATA_SOURCE I defined a literal ('086496' and '085597' for the other) in the Column Mapping tab. I pasted the following in the Fragmentation content, checking the "This source..." box on the Content tab:
eSIS.SANDBOX4_SCHOOLS.DATA_SOURCE = '086496'
And pasted the following into the WHERE clause, checking "Select distinct values" on the Content tab:
sandbox4."".OBIEE.NWOCA_SCHOOLS.SCHOOL_CODE = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."SCHOOL") AND sandbox4."".OBIEE.NWOCA_SCHOOLS.DATA_SOURCE = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION."GROUP")
This took care of my user's security, utilizing the session variables in the WHERE clause. I am now able to generate reports that only one user can access from one data source and share that same report with another user who can only see data from the other data source.
Many thanks!!!

• Skipping a table level

Hi, I have these 3 tables (with right FKs and joins) in my Product Dimension:
CITY, SUPPLIER, PRODUCT.
The right level hierarchy should be, from top to leaves: City -> Supplier -> Product
We'd want to build these dimension hierarchy:
City -> Product, but we get this warning in BI Admin (and error then in Answers)
[39008] Logical dimension table CITY has a source CITY that does not join to any fact source.
It can't navigate through the joins, skipping the intermediate table level?
Are we forced to build the entire hierarchy and skip the level (and the table) setting a preferred Drill-Path? (this solution worked)
Thanks in advance!

To resolve this you have two options.
Be sure that you have in the physical layer correct FK join relationships between these tables as follow:
City-<Supplier-<Product
In the BMM make logical table (dimension table) with logical table source Product. Now, in the logical table source Product general tab properties add physical tables and joins (add first Supplier table and join Product>-Supplier, then add City table and join Supplier>-City). Now, drag-drop columns from all tables that you want to use in dimension levels.
Build dimension object with levels, and put columns on each level.
Option one (all three levels):
City level: key use for drilldown checked
Supplier level: key use for drilldown unchecked
Product level: key use for drilldown checked or unchecked
Now you can drilldown in Answers from City to Product, the middle level is not shown, obiee make join through all three tables.
Option two (City and Product levels only):
City level: key use for drilldown checked
Product level: key use for drilldown checked or unchecked
Now you can drilldown in Answers from City to Product, obiee make join through all three tables, because you have define this additional physical tables and joins in logical table source Product.

• Logical table with data restrictions from the physical table

Hello, I have a question about the relationships between the Logical Tables in Business Model and Mapping and The Physical table in the physical layer. The problem is the next one:
I have a Physical Table named T1 that contains the attributes: Id, DateChangeState, State,…
T1
DateChangeState| ID |State | Other columns….
01/01/2011 | 1 | 03 | …
02/01/2011 | 1 | 11 | …
03/01/2011 | 1 | 02 | …
02/02/2011 | 2 | 01 | …
03/02/2011 | 2 | 02 | …
I need filter this table and extract only one row per ID. The row that I need is the row who contains the Max(DateChangeState) per ID. I don’t know how extract only the rows selected from the physical table to the Logical Table.
I need that the logical table contains the next rows:
T1_Logical
DateChangeState |ID | State Other columns….
03/01/2011 | 1 | 02 | …
03/02/2011 | 2 | 02 | …
How can I extract only the rows with the Max(DateChangeState) grouped by ID in the BMM?
I thought put this condition in the column mapping (CASE WHEN DateChangeState=Max(DateChangeState)) but the Max(DateChangeState) was not grouped by ID.
Any idea about how solve this problem?
I can not use the group by in the answer and I can not change the physical layer.
Thank you,
Best Regards.

Hi Rajeevagrl your solution is very good but I dont´t know why obiee is applying twice the max condition, The select is the next one:
select distinct D1.c1 as c1,
D1.c2 as c2,
D1.c1 as c3
from
(select D1.c1 as c1,
D1.c2 as c2
from
(select D1.c1 as c1,
D1.c2 as c2,
max(D1.c3) over () as c3
from
(select T379.ID as c1,
T379.DATE as c2,
max(T379.DATE) as c3
from
T1 T379
group by T379.ID, T379.DATE
) D1
) D1
where ( D1.c2 = D1.c3 )
) D1
order by c2

• Obiee 11g Noob question - bring in one sql table

I am a new to obiee.
Using version 11g and trying to bring in one sql table. I created my db and table, then I create the data source in odbc. Everything tests fine.
I then open up the oracle BI administration tool, and 'import metadata'. Everything imports fine - under the 'physical' side I see my sql table and if I hit 'view data' I can see my data just fine.
I think my problem is that under 'business model and mapping' the icon isn't green it has what looks like a red 'no' type icon. My guess is there is something I have to make that green before I will be able to create a report using my sql table. (diagram?)
This is just one sql table with no foreign keys or even a pkey. How can I bring in just this one table?

I created the key in the physical layer...
then I dragged over the table and then dragged it over again (into the BMM) this created a table called (IT_Metric #1)..
now I right click and select 'business model diagram', 'whole diagram' which opens a new window with my one table (IT_Metric) then the mouse cursor just shows waiting (hourglass) ...it never stops the hourglass..

• Schema Level Problem !

{color:#000080}Hi,{color}
{color:#000080}I have successfully configured the schema level replication, but some issues are front of me to struck me.
So, I am going to explain my scenario as following.{color}
{color:#000080}1: Site1 having oracle 10g DB and having two schema level processes: Capture and Propagate
2: Site2 having oracle 10g DB and having two schema level processes: Capture and Propagate
3: Central_DB having oracle10g DB and having two APPLY processes one for site1 and second for site2.{color}
{color:#000080}I have a plan to connect the total 18 branches to our Central_DB in future.
From all sites to Central_DB we will configure the Schema Level Replication using streams.(All sites have same schema)(DML + DDL)
But From Central_DB to all sites we will configure Table Level Rule-Based replication.(Only DML's){color}
{color:#000080}My Questions are:{color}
{color:#000080}1: Please recommend me that it's a good model or not ?
2: When site1 doing DML or DDL changes locally then changes are captured by capture process and
After that changes are propagated from source queue(Site1) to destination queue(CEntral_DB) and
Applied by apply process of Central_DB.
> If site1 doing changes and at the same time Central_DB goes shutdown and
restart again then changes are applied from site1 to Central_DB.(Normal Working)
> If site1 doing changes and at the same time Central_DB goes shutdown and
site1 doing more changes locally, after few minutes site1 also goes shutdown , Now site1 and Central_DB both are down.
> After one day when both machines are upped and running, but propagation process
contains some connection errors and no further changes are replicated, even status of processes are enabled.{color}

That would be if an IP or DNS lookup (depending on what is specified as HOST in the tnsnames entry) is failing.
Possibly, the lookups before the servers went down were via DNS and now the DNS is no longer available (it has gone down ?). OR that someone has recreated a hosts file and the earlier entry for the target host is missing.
