Only Search Removal

I have a problem with my safari and chrome. I don´t know how but something called "only search" was installed in both my browsers and I can't uninstall it. I've already tried erasing both safari and chrome extensions but nothing happens and it keeps me redirecting to this page. Also I´ve already rebooted both browsers to original settings but this keeps appearing.
What can I do?

  1. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.
2.  Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
     http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
    “Quit AdwareMedic”.
               or
Remove the adware  manually  by following the “HowTo” from Apple.

  • Before every time I use to open a new tab it comes as top site. Now not anymore and instead is an automatically website calle Only Search. I went to Safari preference I change everything and when I quit Safari all the changes are gone.

Every time I used to open a new tab it comes as top site. Now not anymore , instead it open in a website called Only Search, I went to safari preferences and made all changes but after I quit Safari and open again all changes are gone. I can not change anything and new tab comes by it self with other website.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the support article, you may also need to remove this item in the same way:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This malware is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do I get rid of 'only search'?

Think I may have inadvertently downloaded something dodgy? I have tried changing my home page preference but it won't stay as the apple page when I then go to open up a new one it reverts back to only search and also mac keeper adds keep coming up as the first page when I open a new tab…

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.midnight.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.midnight.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.midnight.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/midnight
    /System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Have problems with Only Search and McKeeper

    hello,
I made a big mistake: I 've downloaded the "MacKeeper".
When I'm on Safari, I can't start through google, because there is always a mysterious "Only Search" that starts my researches even if I've given "google" as first page in Safari. Despite this, The "MacKeeper" alway opens itself on new pages even if I canceled it.
    Could somebody help me?
    Thenk'you very much
    Alex

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. In addition to, or instead of, the files listed in the support article, you may need to remove the following items:
    /Library/Application Support/dot
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.dot.agent.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.dot.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.dot.helper.plist
    /System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
• Only-search on my mac

I have only-search on my iMac and cannot get rid of it. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

I apologize.   I was going crazy.
I have worked on computers for years, and what was driving me nuts was that no one considers this malware.   Also, the opinion is that this is something you can cure by resetting all your Safari settings.   Well, you can't. You also can't download AdwareMedic because it will redirect you.   You can't reset your home page and so forth.   These are not Safari settings, these are active programs that move in and change your Safari parameters back after you change them.
Please note, I didn't start this thread.   Someone else started it and had 15 other questions with no replies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please note also, that I was only able to get rid of the malware because I used ANOTHER computer to download AdwareMedic.   How does someone cure the problem if they only have one Mac?
There is almost no discussion of this problem, which is apparently REALLY common.
Why are these people not prosecuted????
Those are my lame excuses to being impolite to someone who was offering to help.
I guess the next step is to get Apple to step in.   There is no excuse for the status quo.

  • Searching Removable Media

    Hey everyone,
I seem to be having a problem searching removable media. I open an SD card from a camera that contains a top level folder called DCIM and numerous subfolders called 100Nikon, 101Nikon, and on down the line for like twenty folders. Inside are various jpegs and avi's.
I wanted to do a search for the AVI's so I could copy and watch them. I found that finder was unable to find them no matter what criteria I used. I then found it was unable to find either the DCIM or the various Nikon folders either. Finder has no problem finding any of those types of items in folders on my hard drive or on my firewire hard drive, but it refuses to find anything at all on the SD card. Is this normal behavior?

    Problem (finally) found and fixed!
There is apparently an issue with the application of the group policies under User Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/System/Removable Storage Access on Windows 8.
These policies basically restrict access to removable storage like SD cards and USB sticks (i.e. policies enabled = access restricted).
If they are simply enabled or disabled once by a single group policy, there is no issue.
However, if they are e.g. enabled by an overall domain standards policy (i.e. access restricted) and then disabled by a separate corporate policy overrides policy (i.e. access unrestricted) for specific users - as good practices dictate -, there is an issue
on Windows 8 (not Windows 7 or Windows XP).
That means if one wishes to restrict removable storage access overall on Windows 8, but still allow it for specific users, one should not enable these policies overall (access restricted) and disable them for specific users (access unrestricted) - which requires
2 separate group policy objects -, but rather leave these policies disabled overall (access unrestricted) and only enable them for those users whose removable storage access should be restricted (access restricted), even if they are the rule and not the exception
    - which only require 1 single group policy object, since these policies are already disabled (technically "not configured") by default.
Hope this makes sense and someone at Microsoft reads this!
    Thank you everyone anyway!

  • Only search virus (safari)

Hi, I recently noticed that my homepage was changed from "Google" to "only search" I did a quick search from my cell phone and read through some of the forums on here I even followed the instructions regarding the same issue last month but did not find ANY of those listed files in my computer nor have I downloaded any extensions (at least non that are visible through the safari preferences menu). I do not want to download that adware software cause from what I understand it only masks the issue....This is my first apple desktop so I'm still getting used to navigating through the OS. Please help.

I actually figured it out by back pedaling through the apple forums and figured out I have accidentally  downloaded some malicious files (downlite) here are the steps I took to remove it all (some of the files listed were not in found but one or 2 of them were the culprits. Thank you apple forums
Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac
Use these instructions to uninstall or remove ad-injection software—sometimes called adware.
    What is ad-injection software?
Ad-injection software is advertising-supported software that can come from third-party download sites. Software you download from such sites may have been customized to install both the software you want and the ad-injection software. If your Mac has ad-injection software installed, you might see pop-up windows, ads, and graphics while surfing the web, even if "Block pop-up windows" is selected in Safari preferences. Ad-injection software might also change your homepage and preferred search engine.
    Check Safari settings and extensions
Follow these steps to make sure that your Safari homepage, search engine, and browser extensions are the ones that you want.
    Check your homepage
Go to Safari > Preferences, then click General. Make sure that the Homepage field contains the website you want.
    Check your preferred search engine
Go to Safari > Preferences. The search engine setting is in either the Security pane or General pane, depending on the version of Safari that you're using. Make sure that the setting shows your preferred search engine.
    Check your Safari extensions
Go to Safari > Preferences, then click Extensions. If you don't want an extension or can't determine what it does, select the extension from the list, then click Uninstall. These are examples of ad-injection extensions:
Amazon Shopping Assistant by Spigot Inc.
Ebay Shopping Assistant by Spigot Inc.
    Searchme by Spigot, Inc.
    Slick Savings by Spigot Inc.
    GoPhoto.It
    Omnibar
    Remove certain ad-injection software
Follow these steps to remove Downlite, Conduit, or Genieo. If you're asked to enter a password when moving a file to the Trash or emptying the Trash, enter your administrator password.
Remove Downlite, also known as VSearch
Select each line in the list below, starting with /Library/Application Support/VSearch.
    Choose Edit > Copy.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
Choose Edit > Paste to paste the line you copied into the text field, then press Return.
If the file is on your Mac, a window opens with the file you searched for already selected. Drag the file to the Trash.
Repeat the steps above for each item in the following list. If you get a message that the folder can't be found, continue to the next item in the list./Library/Application Support/VSearch

  • Only search safari

    Hi there,
I probably have a malware called 'only search' which opens unwanted windows in safari and makes it nearly impossible to work.
Most of the windows refer to Mac Keeper and Mac Cleaner. I'm certainly not going to download any of these programs to get
rid of the malware but I have not found yet another solution. Anyone with the same issue? Possible solutions would
    be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks.

    1. If adware is installed without your knowledge,
use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
         http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once adware is removed, quit the app by clicking AdwareMedic in the menubar
        and selecting “Quit AdwareMedic”.
    Safari
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off one by one and relaunch Safari again to test.

  • Pacman only searches or installs from core

    Hi folks,
I seem to have developed an odd problem. My pacman only searches or installs (or sees) packges from core. My pacman.conf has core, extra and community enabled, -Syu updates all 3 of these repositories but any searches or attempt to touch any packages other than core results in a not found error. E.g. extra/sdl was installed. I removed it using -Rd but now can't install it or find it in a search.
[mongrol@scarce Downloads]$ sudo pacman -Ss sdl
    [mongrol@scarce Downloads]$ sudo pacman -S sdl
sdl package not found, searching for group...
error: 'sdl': not found in sync db
    [mongrol@scarce Downloads]$
    Any help much appreciated.

Hmm, Tried that. It says it's done it but it hasn't really. Here's the debug output from a -Ss sdl.

My safari browser seems to have been taken over by a malicious program called only-search.  Does any one know how to uninstall this program from safari?  I am running osX 10.10.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • Pacman only searching Core, it seems. [Solved]

Today, something went wrong with my FS which led me to booting into the ArchLinux liveCD, and fsck-ing it. After the cleanup, everything seemed to work. However, I am now noticing that pacman isn't working as it should. It seems that it's only searching the Core repos.
    If I typed
    sudo pacman -Ss
, it only lists core packages. I'm also trying to install the package "python-simplejson" so I can install and try "Gwibber". However, it is in the community repos, so I can't access it. I doubled checked, but trying to install "gnote", but again, pacman couldn't find it.
I hope you can help. I have tried "sudo pacman -Syy" to download a new package database, aswell as the futile "sudo pacman-optomize && sync", but nothing has worked. Please chip in, if you can.
Here is some further information that might be required.

Just removed the prefered servers from /etc/pacman.conf - doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. And /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist is definately there.
Here it is: (sorry about the length..)

  • Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?

Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?
I currently have an iPhone and iPad, and am soon changing over to a Mac. When that happen I'd like to try to see what I can migrate over from the Google ecosystem to the iCloud ecosystem.
    1) Currently I have the Gmail iOS app (a webapp container) that can search server-side of several years of email archive.  Can iCloud do this using the iOS native mail application?  Or is the search just limited to what the device has downloaded locally?
    2) Do I have to use a @me.com address for the full iCloud email sync to take place between server, Mac, and iOS devices?
Believe it or not I've read quite a bit about the iCloud services, but the answers to these questions were far from clear.  Many thanks for the help.

    2)  iCloud only syncs email between .me/.mac addresses.  For other accounts like google, you set up the account in the mail app and if they're IMAP accounts, you can sync between the google server and any devices you have defined that account on.
I'm not absolutely sure about 1) since I haven't had to search going back years - I use MailSteward for that on the mac.  On my iPhone/iPad, when I go into a mailbox and the emails are not immediately available, it downloads them.  I suspect for a search, you need the emails downloaded.

  • I have IPHONE 5s and my phone Bluetooth is not working its showing only its showing only searching for device but no results..?

BLUETOOTH NOT WORKING SHOWING ONLY SEARCHING THE DEVICE BUT NO RESULT?

We're all in the same boat, more or less. iOS 8.1 was supposed to fix Bluetooth issues (among other things) that appeared with the release of iOS 8.0.1 that iOS 8.0.2 didn't fix, and, well, they're still there...
A fix is probably on the way, already, but when will Apple release it, no one know...

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
