Open hyperlinks from database

Hi,
I have a table in database that has files uploaded from front-end like XLS, DOC, PDF,TXt etc.
I need to create a report that shows the filename as hyperlink and when user clicks the link, it should open the attachment in Excel if .XLS, Adobe if .PDF ..
Ex: Filename
Test.xls
plan.Pdf
roadmap.doc
Where all entries under "Filename" column is hyperlink and when user clicks hyperlink, it opens the appropriate document
Can we get this done in BI Publisher out of the box or do we need any custom code?

in my humble opinion it's not good solution
why in table? why not use bfile?
if you want select blob from your table you must always download it to some directory on server in sql/plsql way
or if you use, as example, c#client then you can download it as byte stream to client side
if you use bfile then your file stored on some server directory and you can work with by ftp, http as for ebs sample
so in this case you can't have problem with attachment, you can use url+filename in your report

I am involved in developing a web application wherein I have to display the 'All Workbooks' similiar functionality in the 'Open Workbook from Database' dialog box of Discoverer. If you just need the list of workbooks then you need to use the EUL_DOCUMENT table:

Problem in Open Workbook from Database dialogue

Hi,
at my customer we migrated to 'OracleBI Discoverer 10.1.2' and it works fine with one exception.
In the item 'View' of the 'Open Workbook from Database' dialogue there i am able to choose one of four values. If i move with the mouse over the wanted value, the value is cleared - but it is choosable. Is this a bug or how can i change that mystic behavior?

I need to populate the hyperlink from database. The rule is
if the hyperlink equal to "-", then it returns "-". Otherwise, it

Open PDF from database in a browser and run Javascript within PDF

What we're trying to accomplish is to query a PDF in the database and open the PDF in the browse. Once opened if a user click on a link to open another PDF, it launchs a URL to Coldfusion, that queries the database and opens the PDF link. This all works but we also want to have the open PDF goto a section or bookmark within the PDF. We currently have JavaScripts within the PDF links that do that but only if the PDF is in the file system. We're using the app.openDoc to get a reference to the opened PDF. But when opening the PDF from the database we pass the control to Coldfusion using app.launchURL or app.getURL. These do not pass back a reference to the opened PDF and the JavaScripts fails.
I'm looking for different methods or ideas.
Is there another way to do this, I'm new to acrobat JavaScripting?

I tried tapping and holding the attachment icon, it just shows "Open / Bookmark/ Copy"...
Also i tried opening the attachement first and then tapping on it, it just shows "open in Safari"
Is there any settings to be done to add the options of Opening in Adobe Reader/or any other Docu Sign app . the exhibition booth systems one would work i think

Java to create hyperlinks from database-specified paths

Hi, I�m using Tomcat 5.5/Java 5.0. and Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 6
I have a network path specified in a MySQL database table (e.g. one path might be: \\Rpfs01\Department\Finance\Public\Requisitions 4000+\req 4005 Sigma.xls)
I�d like to query this database table and display the results in an HTML table with the above path to be used as a hyperlink (i.e. the user clicks on the hyperlink and up pops a 2nd page containing the xls file specified by the path).
the problem is that web-page is viewing the path as containing escape characters. (i.e. if I click on the link as specified above, I get a file not found error. But if I add extra backslashes directly to the html code, the link works fine [e.g. \\\\Rpfs01\\Department\\Finance\\Public\\Requisitions 4000+\\req 4005 Sigma.xls]).
Is there a way to have java automatically add the required back-slashes to make this work? I tried replaceAll (i.e. myPathString.replaceAll(�\\�, �\\\\�) ) but this is giving me a PatternSyntaxException.
Any suggestions on how to fix?

Opening Hyperlinks from PDF in a new browser Window

We have a web based (ASP.NET) tool to author HTML content. Authors can create/edit HTML content, preview, and save the file as PDF. A 3rd party component- abcpdf is used to convert HTML into PDF. The converted PDF form will be distributed to consumers.
The PDF typically contains Hyperlinks, text boxes and submit button.
Clicking the hyper link in PDF should open the HTML in a new browser instance. It should not hijack (overwrite or reuse) existing browser instance that may be active in users computer irrespective of browser setting. Changing the browser setting IE: Internet Option > Advanced > Reuse windows for launching shortcuts is not acceptable by users.
Please let us know the solution if any

You can right click on the link and choose properties and then in the actions tab you can select the desired action you want .
You will get a list of various actions specifying how and where do you want to open that link.
Try this and let us know how it goes.

Dynamic hyperlink from database table

I have requirement to create left hand menu on a page. Menu label and hyperlink is stored in database. What is the best way to achieve this. Basically when user logs based on his user name query will fetch the labels and hyperlink source. How to achieve this in ADF? I could not find anything out of the box. I have view object which stores that information but i dont know how to convert that information into hyperlinks.

Assuming the UrlInfo is the name of the View Object that has the attributes label & link, you can use the af:iterator to show the labels & links as follows:
1) Drag & Drop the UrlInfo into the page as a table. Delete the table in the .JSPX page and keeping the pageDef as it is.
2) Instead of the af:table, use af:iterator to show the same.

Is a Windows registry error responsible for Firefox opening two browser windows whenever I use a hyperlink from a Word file?

Whenever I use a hyperlink from an MS Word document, Firefox opens two windows instead of one. The first window is the one I need. The second contains a message that the page could not be found and the address bar contains the URL appended with "Firefoxhtml/shell/open/command".
This problem is similar but NOT identical to one in MozillaZine headed "Windows error opening internet shortcut or local HTML file - Firefox". But none of the solutions in that article work for my problem: I've disabled all extensions but that hasn't helped. I've tried editing file types so that the DDE is removed (I'm not a teccie so have no idea what that means), but after following the instructions to the letter it doesn't seem to remove the DDE. Also I read that removing the DDE is not a good idea for people like me who need to open numerous firefox browser windows at one time. Furthermore, the MozzilaZine article refers only to problems opening a URL link in a MS Outlook email when Firefox is NOT running. My problem concerns the opening of URL links in MS Word when Firefox IS running!
I've run countless different virus programmes, rootkit checkers etc but they all come up blank. However, I did come across guidance on this website: http://antivirus.about.com/od/windowsbasics/a/shellopen.htm which suggests that something may have altered the shell open command for two registry keys used by Firefox.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.

Hyperlinks from Numbers open incorrectly

In Numbers' document I define a hyperlink to a csv file. That link opens in Safari (my default browser) as a text web page. So I have to save it as a file, then go and open that file manually in Numbers (and still later manually delete that file to avoid the disk clutter) . This is unacceptable, Firefox for example gives me an option of directly opening that link in Numbers (saves it in temp directory, and tells Numbers to open it).
So how do i get the Safari to do that?

The idea here is this. My Numbers' document contains some stock symbols and the hyperlink to Yahoo to download a csv file with the latest prices. The idea was, click on the hyperlink which will open in a browser which will in turn download the file and automatically open it in Numbers so I can paste the most recent numbers back into my original worksheet. This is how Firefox works but not Safari.
