Open Library on Startup

When I launch iTunes on my Windows Vista PC, it opens with the Store tab. It takes a long time to load. Can I configure iTunes to open in the library view??

iTunes normally opens with the same view that was active when it was closed. If it doesn't then perhaps it is having problem updating the preferences file C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunePrefs.xml. You could delete this and force iTunes to regenerate it. You may need to reset your preferences for organizing media, preferred import format, or reconnect to your library if it is stored in an alternate location.

It's the Resume feature.
When choosing Restart, Sleep or Shutdown there is a checkbox you can uncheck to prevent the apps from launching.
Also in System Preferences > General there is a hard-to-find checkbox under "Number of recent items" you can turn off.
Also, you can hold the shift key to disable resume on a one time basis.
You can turn off Resume globally by going to ~/Library/Saved Application State and deleting that folder.
(note that the User Library is hidden - one way to get there is to go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library")
To turn off autosave and versions globally
If you're experiencing slow opening apps or windows since upgrading to ML... as I have... and you don't want your OS to automatically save your TextEdit files, etc. then simply disable Autosave and Versions via Terminal.
If you don't want autosave or resume you can copy & paste this command into Terminal at the prompt...
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
Press return
Now reboot.
The reverse would be "yes".

Aperture fails to open Library

Aperture (3.4.1) is frequently (i.e. every week or so) hanging on startup open lIbrary. Console shows message:

Only solution is to reinstall and repatch.
Application hangs with "Opening Aperture Library". Appears to be responsive (menus appear to drop down) but never opens up browser window.
Don't really make many changes to Aperture so unclear whether this is my actions or something else that is causing this.

do the hangs also appear when you are working from a different user account? This way you can check if any non-standard start-up items, haxies, kernel extensions are interfering with your installation.
Something must be corrupting your Aperture installation over and over again, if reinstalling and patching does fix the problem temporarily.
Only solution is to reinstall and repatch.
What kind of patching are you doing and how?

Please help - Firefox will not open. library - applications - and no firefox is listed to get to my profile manager. . What's next?

firefox has been running slower. When this happens I'll reboot my computer and this speeds up firefox. When I restarted the computer firefox would not open. Just the spinning wheel with no access to the tools.
After I force quit - it says ignore or notify/report to apple. I tried sending a report, and it ques up the box with details, system config, etc... but when I click on send - it will not let me send one - I've never been unable to send a report before.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled. Upon opening I get the spinning wheel and nothing happens - I need to force quit. I see on this mozilla help site that I need to update my profile manager. I followed these instructions - Finding your profile without opening Firefox Open Finder and go to your home folder. Note: your home folder is usually the name of your Mac user account From your home folder open /Library/, then /Application Support/, then /Firefox/, then /Profiles/. Your profile folder is within this folder. but when I got to library - application support - there is no firefox listed.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.
If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.
Open a cmd.exe window:<br />
Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter>
At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r)
If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Can't find tnsapi.h and net8 open library

After install oracle 8.1.7 on Sun OS 5.6 successfully, I can't find tnsapi.h and net8 open library, such as libtnsapi.a. In documentation of 8.1.7, they suppose to
be found under: $ORACLE_HOME/network/public and $ORACLE_HOME/network/lib respectively.

You do not need these files. You should be using ocidfn.h instead of ocidef.h and Cda_Def instead of csrdef.

I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?

Can't Locate Files in Library although names appear in "Open Library Screen

I have scoured this forum but can't find a solution to this problem. I engaged in the forbidden act of moving files within the iPhoto library and now when I launch iPhoto several photos are missing. What is more troubling, however, is that I cannot locate the files in my iPhoto library.
The strange part is that whn I launch iPhoto and hold down the option key to select a library, I can see all of the files in the library on this screen. When I go back to the actual library, folders that appear in the "open library" screen are not physically present in my library??
I reallly would appreciate any suggestions, advice. Most of these pictures are of my 2 year old daughter. It would be beyond devastating to lose these.

Can you give me a little more info? Did you move photos around in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder? How many did you move? Did you change their name?
Can you put them back to where they originally were?

Duplicates in Open Library... list

I am a novice using FCP X 10.1.4. Everything seems to be working fine.
However, when I select File>Open>New Library..., the list shows identical duplicates of three of 5 libraries.
The Finder shows each Library without any duplicates.
I do have a clone backup HD, but it is not mounted when this happens. There are no other volumes with Libraries.

Thanks very much for looking. The right part of the image is my fcp x HD, (FCP X) with the Libraries at the root level.
On the left is the dialog window that I get when I Opt-Launch fcp, or Open Library... within fcp.
I don't have any other Libraries on drives for fcp to see. There are backups on my boot drive. But the location in the dialog box shows "FCP X" as the location of the Libraries. The "bu Jan 10" Folder is an empty folder just to let me know when I last cloned my working drive (FCP X).
So, why are 3 of the Libraries duplicated in the list?

This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
# If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
# Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
# Select Tab Groups.

Shift + enter does not open library selection

No matter how I try to open iTunes - shift + left-click, highlighting the icon (or program in Explorer) and then shift + enter, iTunes only opens the last opened library. I am not getting the dialogue box that lets me choose which library I want to open.
Windows 7 Home Premium + iTunes 10.7.0.21

The way that I find works is to click the icon that launches iTunes from the start menu (or double-click one on the desktop) and immediately press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. If iTunes opens normally, close and try again.

trying to import my old bookmarks which i found in html file, favorites, after a crash. Followed your instructions all went ok until, i selected favorites html file and selected "OPEN". library window was to close but didnt ??? what now ??? no other options to continue process.

Doesn't sound like that is an HTML file, but rather a folder of favorites sitting in Windows. Sorry, Firefox can't that data in that format.

Finder window auto opens at every startup

I have a finder window open at every startup.... odd. I looked in my accounts and login items and it is blank.... I then looked in the login options and the auto log in as "me" is checked, display login windowas: list of users is checked, and show the restart, sleep and shut down buttons is checked....
What do I need to do to get rid of this finder issue?

I have removed all iphoto files and avatars as one person has suggested. I am suppose to reinstall iPhoto using the discs that came with the computer.
I am not sure what to do with any options that might be provided. Any help will be appreciated.
