Open pdf-file on mac OS 10.4

Does anybody know how to open a pdf-file on mac OS 10.4 (tiger, jvm 1.5). I already saw related links but couldn't find the clue.

JDIC seems to me a little complicated, just to open a pdf file, Why do you think this? Sure it does more than just what you want, but so what, that does not make you code any more complicated. It would just be a call to org.jdesktop.jdic.desktop.Desktop.open
and Desktop.open is a methos in jvm 1.6. The Desktop.open in 1.6 is taken from JDIC.
Isn't there a simple way like in windows Why is that simple in your eyes? You would have to create a version for every supported OS, using existing code (like say JDIC) you can let someone else do the complex part.

  • Cannot open PDF files on Mac

    I cannot open PDFs on my Mac but can open the same files on my PC.  When I create a PDF from the computer and when I send it to our office printer as a scan-PDF, I cannot open either.  Have downloaded Adobe Acrobat, etc., and still waiting for a response from them.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Don't use Acrobat, use Preview. Preview is already pre-installed on your computer. If you cannot locate it, type Command-Shift (opens Spotlight) and type in Preview and hit return.

    My guess is they don't care. Most likely they're illiterate and don't know what a colon is for. They probably think it's a little-used character. Remember: these are the people who don't know the difference between "deprecate" and "depreciate".
    I have the same colon problem as you do. But it's not the biggest problem I have encountered in Lion. If it was only that I'd be Mr. Delighted with Lion. There's worse than having a colon - uh -  that won't cooperate. A lot worse, in Lion.

  • Cannot open PDF files in AIR app on Mac OS error 3204

    Hello,
    I am having trouble opening a PDF file in adobe air application on Mac OS 10.9.2. I already installed adobe reader 11 and air on mac.
    I also traced HTMLLoader.pdfCapatibility, which returns 3204 (An error was returned by the OS when trying to load the Adobe Reader or Acrobat application or one of its necessary libraries.) .
    I am showing you some sample code to you.
    if(HTMLLoader.pdfCapability == HTMLPDFCapability.STATUS_OK)
                var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(tempFile.url);
                pdf.load(request);
                var ui:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
                ui.addChild(pdf)
                container.addChild(ui);
      else
      trace("PDF cannot be displayed. Error code:",HTMLLoader.pdfCapability);
    It shows the output :  PDF cannot be displayed. Error code: 3204
    Please let me know if anyone have any ideas ............asap

    Hi jon123_123,
    I dont understand what you mean by opening PDF file in Adobe Air, that is platform.
    You should try uninstall Adobe Reader and install Latest version of Adobe Reader with latest updates patches and check again.

  • Hello. My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files. Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????? I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9

    My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files.Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????/ I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9
    Please help me!!!!

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    Once you have your Firefox running again, try this recommendation from another thread:
    ''If using a Mac, go to the Firefox Plugins and disable the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3. This is a recent plugin update, and as soon as it was installed I noticed that PDFs wouldn't download.''

    Can't open PDF file from iBook on MAC. error "The application “ACDSee Pro” can’t be opened."

    Hi arewers,
    Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

  • I cannot open pdf files on my mac

    can anyone help me find out how I can open pdf files on my mac? I used to be able to open them and all of a sudden, whenever I link on a pdf file, it directs me to a blank screen. Thanks!

    You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • I can't open PDF files even though I have downloaded Adobe Reader.  I am using a Mac book Pro

    I can't open PDF files as the screen message says I have to reopen the computer and sign the Adobe Reader agreement but even though Adobe has downloaded I don't get any screen message indicating where I would do this.
    Where is this?

    after downloading, did you install adobe reader?
