Open Safari in full screen by default?

Is there any way to set Safari to open full screen? Mail, iTunes etc all open full screen, just safari seems to open in a small window, I know its easy to click the expand button, would be just nice to set it as default.

I found that if you quit Safari (while being in Full-Screen mode) with cmd-alt-q instead of cmd-q it opens in Full-Screen, but you have to remember to always close it with cmd-alt-q
I'm on Mavericks
Edit: It opens also the last website you have opened, sadly... it is like the option to "close windows when quitting applications" but only for Safari.

  • Safari in full screen by default

    Hi.
Subject line says it all.  When I start sfari by clicking on a link in anouther application like Mail, I'd like it to start in full screen mode instead of in the window by default.  Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    Tom S.

The easiest way, I think, is to have Safari open already in full-screen mode because the link should then open as a new tab in the full-screen Safari.  There is no user-accessible preference for Safari to enable full-screen by default but there might be one hidden in the PLIST file for it.  Generally, you'll want Xcode Developer Tools downloaded from the Mac App Store so that you get access to the PLIST Editor so that you can both browse and tweak the PLIST file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist).  This is a relatively advanced topic and hacking PLIST files can lead to problems.  I'd have a look myself but I'm over my broadband limit this month and Xcode is almost 3GB.

  • Making apps open in full screen by default WITHOUT resume enabled.

    Hi guys,
I love using apps in full screen on Lion and would like to have all apps capable of it open in full screen by default.  Unfortunately I've found the only way to do this is to have resume enabled which I really don't like as I find it annoying having to exit out of whatever document I was using last whenever word/acrobat etc. open.  Also don't want what I have been browsing on Safari previously to be seen.  I have read from other users in the discussions and in other forums that Lion should remember if you have exited an app while in full screen and will re-open in full screen.  Unfortunately this is not the case for me as I am having to click my apps in to full screen each time I open them.  Does anyone know if there is some sort of preference file I can clear to get this functionality?
    Thanks

"How does one choose what player to use when , once saved to desktop, they all seem to open the file regardless of the type extension (.ave , .wmv and so on)?"
You can select a "default" player to open a specific file by following the instructions in #2 of my previous post.
Just make sure whichever player you download is for the Intel Mac.
"For instance , say you`re in a forum and there`e is a "hey , look at this...' type of thing. The "look at this" being an attachment of some sort."
This involves your "browser" plug-ins. Assuming you are using QuickTime, this is done through QuickTime MIME Settings.
    Quicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
Some browsers have their own default player plug-ins that can override QuickTime when you make a player selection on certain website. For instance: Realplayer opens .rm files. QuickTime cannot open .rm files.
In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes.
    Click the OK button.
I would restart just to be on the safe side.
    =========================
Sorry, I am not familiar with Intel Macs. Suggest that if you have any concerns besides QuickTime, you may wish to cross-post in the Intel-based iMac Forums where knowledgeable users using the same model computer as yourself hang out.
Maybe it would be easier if you would advise the type of player(s) you are interested in? I am assuming QuickTime since you posted in its forum. Are you having an issue making QT your default player?

Mountain Lion is set up to close windows when you quit a program instead of saving them. To change this, put Safari in full-screen mode, move the cursor to the top, open Safari menu while holding Option key and close Safari from the menu.
If you want to do it automatically with all programmes, open System Preferences > General, and deactivate "Close windows when quitting an application"

  • Open movies in quicktime full screen by default

I've got a question regarding quicktime pro for windows: is it possible to launch movies in full screen by default?
The thing is that the movies will be shown on a video wall. The actual computer that is connected to the video wall is mounted directly behind it, a few meters above the ground, and cannot be used as a work station. Therefore, any changes to the media files playing on the video wall are made from another pc via Remote Desktop Connection: transfer a new media file to the start up folder and then reboot the  (video wall) computer. This is why it is necessary that movies open in full screen by default. Is it possible?
    Thanks!

Thank you so much! I never thought of changing the movie itself - I only tried to change the player settings...

Safari status bar disappears. I have tried clicking on show status bar, under the View tab and it will only appear when I move the cursor to the top of the screen. I can not minimize the open page, only full screen or close the browser. Any idea how the rectify this issue?

One enters and exits full-screen with control+command+F keys. This is on the View menu in Safari. Optionally, the green traffic light in your browser title bar, if you roll over it, has the full-screen control it it. While in full-screen mode with Safari, moving your mouse pointer virtually up, and off-screen reveals the Safari title bar again, and you can click the green traffic light to exit full-screen mode.
You can hide/show the status bar by simply typing command+/. This too, is on the Safari View menu. and in 10.10.1 — it works reliably for me.

  • Safari in Full Screen

    Hi,
I have been using Mac OS X Lion for some time now, and I have noticed that when I use Safari in full screen mode and quit, the next time I launch Safari, it does not launch in full screen again. I have read about apps launching in full screen mode when you quit them in full screen, and all other apps on my Mac do so, but Safari.
Is there anything I can do to solve this?

I suppose that you have this exception when the second window is initiated...
Excuse my remark, it may be perfectly stupid : do you have two screens? The full screen window is supposed to show itself on the user's second screen.
Or maybe the screens are not handled the same way on each computer? (I'm not used at developping applications working on two screens...)
    thanks for your help

  • New MBPr when viewing safari in full screen mode it keeps switching to the desk top screen like I initiated a gesture

Everytime I am using safari in full screen mode my MBPr always switches back to desk top view within a matter of seconds.  I can be typing a website or entering data in to a form and it still switches back.  This has become very annoying.  I have reinstalled the software, restored from time machinw, and even reset safri but it will not stop

Delete the localstore.rdf file at the following location:
    C:\Users\'''USERNAME'''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\'''PROFILE NAME'''
I did this and it fixed it for several days, but it broke again eventually.

  • Unable to set safari in full-screen mode

    Hi folks,
I just factory reset my 15-inch MBP running 10.9.3. After doing so, I notice that I am unable to set Safari in full-screen mode. Any ideas??

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Did Itunes11 remove the preference setting to play videos in full screen by default?  How to set this way?

In the past I believe Itunes had a preference setting to play music videos, movies, etc., full screen by default; that is my preferred approach.
Now, my videos will play a full screen but with the itunes menu at the top.  I must hit the "double arrow" thing once the video starts playing to go true full screen.
In the past I think this was under preferences, playback but it looks like that option has been removed, reducing the amount of control the user has over video playback.
Is this accurate? Any way to change this back to the user choice?  Want to make sure I haven't missed anything in my reseach.
    Thanks.

You find different recipies on the net, adding all sorts of 'suffixes' (suffices?) to an existing yt-URL, example
    https://youtu.be/2zfqw8nhUwAQVQ=HD1080
… the last part VQ=HD1080 should 'force' a fullHD playback.
    And it doesn't
    What Phil said:
YT checks the connection and offers the 'best' quality based upon that.
You would be surprised, how many folks don't know, what this tiny button in the YTplayer means.....

all of sudden my iphone 4s any picture I take outside I cannot forward via email or text and I can only see it, in the camera roll. When I try to open the picture full screen it is blank. Anyone have any ideas to fix it?

Close out of the camera app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
Then do a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Then check your camera roll again.
