OpenBrWindow behavior in FireFox

I have a link that is opening a "popup" page from my root
directory in a custom sized and positioned window. Code looks like
this:
<a href="popupList_AF.php"
onclick="MM_openBrWindow('popupList_AF.php','AFLicenseList','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes ,width=470,top=20,left=20');
return false" target="_blank">(view list)</a>
This page opens in FireFox as expected in a new window.
There is link on this newly-opened popup page that is opening
a link from another server (not part of my site). Here's the code
for that:
<a href="
http://www.augsburgfortress.org/copyrights/licenses/af_hymms_license.jsp"
onclick="MM_openBrWindow('
http://www.augsburgfortress.org/copyrights/licenses/af_hymms_license.jsp','AFHymns','scrol lbars=yes,resizable=yes');
return false" target="_blank">Augsburg Fortress Hymns
License</a>
I think the code is identical aside from the pages being
targeted. However, this page opens a new tab in the aforementioned
popup window. Not what I want. Could this be happening because I'm
going "offsite"? Maybe there's somethind else I'm missing.
To follow the actual links, start here:
http://baytonemusic.com/copyrights.php
Click on the word "chart" in the middle of the page. In the
new window, click on "(view list)" in the middle/center table cell.
In the next window, click on "Augsburg Fortress Hymns License" at
the top of the page. It is this last window that insists on opening
in a tab.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks - JAY

Now try removing the target attribute entirely from the popup
window's link.
That just made the new page load into the parent window.

I believe the problem is that the "problem" window is not set
to a specific size. Set some dimensions for it and I think you'll
see what you want.
Actually, when I first encountered the problem (before I
originally posted) I had a size specified - a width at least. Just
to double check again, I have now added specific width and height
dimesions but it's still opening a new tab.
ANSWER
Just figured it out. I feel kind of dumb for not checking
this earlier. The window from which the last link was being opened
was based on a template that did not yet have the correct
JavaScript included. As soon as I put this into the template -
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0
window.open(theURL,winName,features);
//-->
</script>
- everything was cool. Thanks for your responses. Always
appreciated!

    Hi Kossa,
    You can also check if the issue occurs in
    Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
    Besides, uninstall it and re-download
    a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
    If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

  • Strange behavior with Firefox

    Hi Team,
    I am using HTMLDB V2.0 and Firefox V1.5.0.1. I used wizard to create a report/form application. However, when I press a button to update the form all the buttons line up in a vertical row and I then have to press the same button again.
    My application is 30412 at htmldb.oracle.com. The problem is occurring at page 4. Go to page 3 (2nd tab) and select any record. You will be directed to page 4. Then when you press any button (cancel, create, delete, apply changes) on page 4, page 4 is refreshed and the buttons strangely line up in a vertical column. I then have to press the same button again before the update occurs.
    I have the same report/form setup on pages 1 and 2 and it is working fine on those pages.
    This strange behavior is not occurring in IE. I also notice that the font size is bigger in IE .
    I would appreciate any help you might offer.
    I really enjoy working with HTMLDB.
    Thanks, Andy

    Sorry about that. I removed all the authorization schemes from the application. I also changed the authentication scheme to HTMLDB. Let me know if I need to do something more for you to get access.
    Thanks for looking at it.
    I think it may have something to do with the "button, alternative 3" template from theme 3 that I am using. When I switch to the "button" template from theme 3 then the strange behavior goes away in Firefox.

  • How do I change mouse button behavior in firefox to make new mouse shortcuts?

    Hi,
    For some time now I've wondered if it is possible to easily change the default behavior of mouse buttons in Firefox. What I'd like to do is define a new mouse button combination which replicates the function of an already-defined keyboard shortcut. In particular, currently, when one holds down the shift key while left-clicking the mouse while over a link, that link is opened in a new window. What I'd like to do is to have exactly the same behavior occur when I click and hold the left mouse button while pressing and releasing the right mouse button. This then makes opening a link in a new window a menu-less, one-handed operation.
    Anyone have any ideas how this might be done? Thanks!

    Hello,
    Does this addon - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mousecontrol/ meet your requirement? Also, you can check the list of mouse shortcuts here [[Use mouse shortcuts to perform common tasks in Firefox]]
    Hope this helps.

  • Observed different behavior between Firefox and Nightly ( on Facebook)

    I like to troll on Facebook like all with too much time on their hands. I've discovered something funny happening.
    I have 2 laptops. One an XP dinosaur running Firefox (x86 newest 33.0?), the other running Nightly. I'm using Nightly now.
    When I'm on Facebook on ol' trusty, I like to copy/paste emoticons (smileys) from other sites. This has always worked smoothly.
    On my x64 Nightly, Facebook appears to run smoothly but the the "symbols" website won't allow me to copy. Just a small black square appears when I try to select an icon.
    Here's the rub. Does the "broken" website behave so because I'm running Nightly - W8.1 and WTP, both x64. or is nightly unable to interpret the site correctly??
    http://www.piliapp.com/facebook-symbols/

    Those black boxes are showing if the Flash plugin is blocked (not activated), so check that via the Lego block icon on the location/address bar.
    You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
    *Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
    *Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
    *Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • Firefox asks to activate Acrobat reader for each web site. How do I make it stop this behavior?

    Each time I open a PDF Firefox makes me activate the Acrobat reader plugin. "Allow and remember" only remembers on a site-by-site basis. How do I get Firefox to always allow Acrobat reader plugin?
    This behavior is really annoying and excessively controlling. Although years ago the Acrobat plugin was buggy, it has been stable for a long time. I don't care for the Firefox builtin pdf viewer and I want to continue to use the Adobe viewer.

    You can set the default behavior in Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins.

  • After upgrading from Mac 10.6 to 10.9, firefox creates new windows by an "expanding" animation instead of just appearing. How do I get the old behavior back?

    On Mac 10.6.8, when I create a new window by hitting command-N or going to the file menu, or if another page creates a new window, the new window just appears instantaneously. However, after upgrading to Mac 10.9.2, new windows appear by an "expanding" animation, which takes slightly longer than the old "appearing" behavior. (Other apps on my Mac do not exhibit the "expanding" behavior, only firefox.)
    Was this behavior intentional? How can I get the old behavior back?
    I am using Firefox 28.0.

    Hi __trout__,
    Go to the mac system preferences and click on Doc. There is a Minimize window using.... select the animation there.
    Hope this helps.

  • When I open a new windox in Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows XP, it opens not only a new window, but all my existing tabs reopen in the new window too--how do I fix this?

    Whenever I open a new window in Firefox, it not only opens a new window with a new tab, it also opens all my existing tabs a second time in the new window. This has been happening for several days. Closing Firefox and rebooting doesn't solve the problem.
    A related problem is that if I close all tabs and close Firefox, then reboot and re-open Firefox, all the tabs that were closed re-open too.
    This is new behavior in Firefox in my experience.

    Firefox opens the home pages in a new window, so if you want to open a new window blank then you need to set the home page to about:blank
    You can check the startup setting:<br />
    Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my home page" | "Show a blank page"

    Did you perform the fixes from the "Preferences not saved" article?

    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

    Make sure that Firefox isn't running when you delete files in the profile folder.

  • I don't want Firefox to "remember" the folders I've saved in from websites before. How do I return Firefox to its old image saving habits?

    I recently got a new computer and upgraded to Firefox 8. Now, when I save an image from a website, Firefox will "remember" and, the next time I save an image, open a random folder that I saved an image in last time I was on that site, and choose to save it there. This wouldn't be a problem if, 1) it wasn't a random folder out of the several I save into, and 2), if I have to cancel out of an image for any reason, the next time I go to save (seconds later, without refreshing/leaving a page), it will have chosen another random folder for me to save in and I'm misplacing my files.
    I'd like to return Firefox to the previous image saving habits, where I have to choose the folder each time, and it doesn't "remember" anything that I've done, as it is only causing headaches.

    I have been frustrated by the same aggravating Firefox 8 "improvement".
    I have several hard drives, several partitions on each hard drive, hundreds of folders on in each partition, and hundreds of subfolders below them. When I am researching something, I download whole Web pages, PDFs, JPEGs, FLVs, and many other files from all over the Web. It is totally frustrating to be taken to different drives all over my computer each time I want to download a new file to the same folder I jut downloaded to. I have to drill up and down drives and folders to get back to where I was.
    In previous versions of Firefox, Save As opened in the last folder I saved to, and all I had to do was create a file name and hit Save. In Firefox 8 I am taken to some totally unrelated subfolder on some totally unrelated drive. The folder in which I last downloaded a file from Wikipedia, Fox News, BBC , Flicker, or any other URL usually has absolutely nothing to do with what I am presently researching.
    Why would anyone want to make the default download be the desktop? Total clutter and confusion. All I want Firefox to do when I hit the Save As button is to open the same folder I last downloaded '''''anything''''' to irregardless of the URL.
    Is there some way via modifying the about:config file that I can change this behavior of Firefox 8?

  • Restrict Firefox Access to Local Disk Drives in Linux

    I used to be able to modify the browser.js file and use regular expressions with onLocationChange to restrict access to about:, file:, and resource: I am unable to locate where to make the changes to have this same behavior in Firefox 4.
    I need to configure the browser to deny access to local disks under Linux (e.g. file://usr/local/data) I also need to prevent my users from using about: and file: in order to meet corporate security requirements.
    I have exploded the omni.jar file, and looked for some time. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

    Hi
    +". . . my 3TB RAID 5 that they're using has become rather full at this point (down to 200MB). . ."+
    I think the problem you're currently seeing starts (and probably ends) here. Regardless of what your data comprises of the general rule of thumb is to make sure you keep at least 10% of free disk space for any hard drive let alone a RAID. Most people would generally recommend 15% for a RAID 5. A rough calculation based on your 3TB RAID would mean you should keep at least 300GB free. You're well below that unless 200MB is a typo? I'm surprised the whole thing has not ground to a halt?
    Video Capture, Editing and Playback in a network home environment is always going to place a considerable strain on any network unless you've prepared the ground first. For example 60 seconds of RAW Video is roughly 200MB in size. Multiply this for a classroom of 16 and that's a lot of data. Even if you're not using hi-def you're still talking a lot of data.
    There are better ways of doing this.
    HTH?

  • Images Problem in Firefox -- very weird -- please help!

    Hi all, I need your help here with ideas...
    I have built a site that is 100% Flex, full size.  It uses images in two different ways: Image controls and HTML text.  Both are populated dynamiccally from XML resources.
    In IE, these all work perfectly.  But I get some very weird behavior in Firefox.
    I have a list with a custom item renderer using Images.  When the user clicks on the list, a pop-up Canvas is displayed with the same image and an Text area with htmlText in-line Images. In Firefox, these images do not populate -- neither the table nor inside the text -- but the text shows perfectly, even spaced around where the image would be.
    But elsewhere in the application, I have an Image control populated the same way, except driven by a datagrid selection, and that one WORKS FINE.  I also have other Text areas using htmlText, populated the same way, and the in-line Images work great there in Firefox.
    What is going on???

    I think I figured it out.
    The slashes in the image paths went the wrong direction. \ in stead of /
    Apparently, this is no problem for IE, but chokes Firefox.  Keep an eye out.

  • Adobe Reader XI - Save button not enabled in Firefox 19, 20, 21

    This problem only seems to occur in Firefox. IE9 and Chrome 20+ seem to behave properly. We have customers complaining that they are having a difficult time figuring out how to save PDF files from our scientific research web application. While, cntrl-shift-s and File->Save As are still available to them, they are confused that the "Save" icon that appears on the reader is greyed out.
    I had read the following blog post concerning the problem involving URLs with over 259 characters.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/dmcmahon/page/3/
    While our URLs are long and they are cgi-based in format, they didn't quite make it to 259 characters.
    I took our code base and created a very short path-based URL, removing special characters, such as periods and hyphens from the file name, and making sure that the tail of the URL contained the name of the pdf file, and the save icon was still greyed out.
    Installing Adobe Reader 9.5, and 10.0.4 seemed to exhibit the same behavior in Firefox.
    Are there currently any known issues with how Adobe Reader behaves with Firefox?
    Are there any possible work-arounds?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the screenshot, Pat. I think the light bulb went off for me. I was looking over the tips for configuring Firefox at the link:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
    And I think what confused me the most was this screen shot for plug-ins for Firefox mentioned Acrobat.
    I had Acrobat installed myself, but most of our users do not use Acrobat, since it's not a free product. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat, and the Adobe Acrobat plug-in was still there, so that forced me to realize that the plug-in that comes with Adobe Reader 11.0.3 is called "Adobe Acrobat".
    I went into Tools->Options->Applications and selected "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)", rather than "Use Adobe Reader (default)".
    This now allows me to not only view PDFs within a browser window in Firefox, but it also enables the save icon (which "Use Adobe Reader (default)" was not allowing me to do:
    It's a shame that the default setting is not for "in browser", because our customers may have to make a configuration change.
    There is no way to programmatically force a configuration change on a user's browser, is there?

  • When deleting bookmarks from Firefox, why does the program respond differently on similar installs to different computers all running OS X?

    On the subject of bookmarks...
    The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, my iMac, and my Mac mini...
    If the bookmark is itself a tab on the toolbar, right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu that appears.
    The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, but not my iMac or Mac mini...
    If the toolbar tab is actually a folder containing bookmarks and possibly more folders, left click on the toolbar tab to open a drop down menu of other bookmarks/folders, highlight the one you want to delete, then right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu.
    On the iMac and Mac mini, right clicking on an item in the drop down menu of bookmarks/folders has no effect. It does not produce the additional drop down menu at all.
    I can find no place to adjust this as a setting in preferences or anywhere else. Can you tell me why I am seeing a different response from the Firefox program on my MacBook Pro than I get from my other Macs?
    All Macs are configured similarly and running OS X 10.6.5. All have Firefox 3.6.13 installed.
    I realize there are many other ways to delete bookmarks from Firefox. My question is not about how to delete bookmarks, but rather why am I seeing the differing behavior from Firefox in other installs. It may well prove to be an issue within OS X rather than Firefox.

    In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.
    *Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
