OpenGL applications & nvidia
In glxgears I get about 800 fps, which is perfectly normal for my GF2. I also don't see anything wrong when I run glxinfo. There are some warnings in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but related only to fonts and APM.
Now when I run any game like neverball or lbreakout, it just hangs. No output on xterm, cpu stays near zero, but the game won't show up. The same happens if I change the driver from nvidia to nv.
All games worked before. I don't know what change has caused them to not work, because it's been a while since I last played those games. I uninstalled the driver and installed the archlinux nvidia package recently with:
nvidia-installer --uninstall
pacman -S nvidia
so I suspected this first and reverted back to the original driver, but it didn't change anything.
Any ideas what might be wrong here?
I don't have mesa installed.
When I run a game from console (xterm), there is no output, it just hangs.
$ ldd /usr/X11R6/bin/glxgears

libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0x409c0000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
I don't see anything obviously wrong in ldd output (I may be wrong though). All files exist and are symlinks to existing libs. There is difference between my and your output: in my case most libs are in /lib/tls/, while in your case are located in /lib/, but I don't know if that means anything.

After performing the OS X 10.10.2 update, OpenGL applications, for example Starry Night Pro fail to run, there are numerous windows update/refresh problems (incomplete refresh, remnants of window/frame borders), and some applications, for example Google Chrome are unusable, as cursor motion in the application window causes the display to flash horizontal bars in the window.
I've tried a variety of things, including downloading the most current release of Xcode, turning on/off transparency in Accessibility, graphics switching, and a few other things, but the problem persists.
The App Store display behaves similarly. I am running a MacBook Pro.
This is the output from EtreCheck:

Cyrilhat I DON'T WANT TO OPEN the window application FROM the Labview VI BUT IN the Labview VI. I think it's possible to do that and to do communicate the OpenGL application with the Labview Interface using an ActiveX but I don't know how. Can someone help me ?The desired behavior you desribed may not be possible with that application. In general LabVIEW does not offer a window object that other standalone applications can run it. The closest thing is the ActiveX container. If the programmers for your application created an activeX control of your program and they provided documentation, it should be pretty easy to incorperate the app and labview into one window. I recommend contacting the manufacuturer of the app to see if they have an activeX control version of the app.

IPhone OpenGL Application Template - Perspective and Depth?
Has anyone been able to get a perspective scene with depth to render using the new OpenGL Application template in XCode? I can't get anything to work other than Ortho.
Thanks!

Use windows, want MAC, write openGL applications
Hello,
Apparently I am still a fool in using a MAC and i don't have a
clue about using it but i want to buy such a thing.
2 Problems:
I am a hobby programmer of OpenGL and want to know wether programming MAC application is like (with "like" i don't mean "exactly like" of coure) Win32 API. Ok, All I want is creating
OpenGL applications on MAC. Is this a big problem for a young guy like me?
Next:
I am using much Win32 Apps like Milkshape3D (for OpenGLprogramming). Are there similar Apps on Mac which effect exactly the same or are there Win32 emulatoren on which WinApps can be ran on Mac.
I know i am a fool, please don't mention it in your answers again
Thx for all!Hi,
Writing OpneGL programs on the mac will be no problem for a young guy like you. Hillegass's book has an example OpenGL/Objective-C program in it. There are quite a few examples on the Apple ADC example code pages too (it's worth joining ADC - there is a free membership option which is good enough for hobbyists like me). I'd recommend learning Objective-C to program OpenGL stuff - nothing beats Objective-C in my opinion (it might even wean you off OpenGL - have a look at quartz 2d and core image). You'll be using Xcode as the IDE - it's good, powerful and easy to use.
As I don't use a pc I can't say anything about your second question except dump the pc, it's holding you back...
Cheers,

Black Screen with Sound on OpenGL Apps (nVidia GeForce4 MX 440)
After a couple weeks of a non-stop search for a solution that has taken me through countless forums and Google queries, I've come to the realization that I need some help before I drive myself insane. I am running an old emachine T3065 with an AMD Athlon XP 2.167 MHz processor, 1024 MB of RAM, 160 GB HD, and a good old integrated (POS) nVidia NV18 GeForce4 MX 440 displayed on a widescreen Acer X191W LCD panel. I followed the instructions dictated in the nVidia installation wiki to a 'T', and can start GDM and log into Gnome without any conflict. Then when I attempt to launch a 3D OpenGL game or application, I'm stuck with a black screen where I can still hear sound (in fullscreen mode) or, in a few windowed programs such as foobillard and Google Earth, a three-dimensional shape without textures. Here's a couple screenshots:

As you can see, direct rendering is enabled. This left me fairly perplexed.
Issuing glxgears returned a smooth animation without error running at an average of 1750 frames per second. I then began toying with my xorg.conf settings by turning "RenderAccel" on and off, trying the different "NvAGP" ranges, etc. All without revealing a solution. Here is my current xorg.conf:

Perhaps the warnings pertaining to my monitor and ACPI are pertinent?
Is it possible that there is some kind of issue with my configuration and OpenGL textures since I can still see some non-textured 3D objects? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am beyond frustrated with the matter. On a sidenote, in my latest issue of Linux Pro Magazine, I booted up a Sabayon live disc that game with the magazine and I had the same error except that a message blatantly said that I did not have OpenGL support. Anyway, I apologized if I rambled a bit and I hope that we'll be able to find a solution. Cheers!I guess I forgot to disclose that bit, haha. I'm currently using the 'nvidia-96xx' drivers which I thought were the correct set for the GeForce4 series. I recall reading that in a wiki somewhere, but I could be mistaken. I thought 'nvidia-71xx' was for GeForce2 and earlier.I really hope it is as simple as me installing the wrong driver.

How do I tell Windows 7 to use the AMD Radeon HD 4850 for my OpenGL application?
I have a customer with a new MacBook Pro model that has both the processor embedded 'Sandy Bridge' graphics chip, and an AMD Radeon HD 4850 chip. He has used the Bootcamp utility to partition his hard disk and installed 64-bit Windows 7. He needed som help getting the Bootcamp drivers updated but now Windows 'sees' the better Radeon grphics chip. However, when running an OpenGL based application in Windows, the Bootcamp drivers are not switching on the Radeon graphics chip so my customer has disgustingly poor graphics performance on his beautiful new computer.
What needs to be done so he can use the OpenGL graphics capabilities of his new MacBook Pro?As far as I can tell, switching of graphics calls from the POS Intel chip to the AMD/ATI chip is automatic, even for legacy (pre User Account Control aware) applications.
This is NOT true with computer with the Nvidia graphics chips. On these, UAC aware applications seem to generally work but legacy applications do not. They (Nvidia) supplies a tool called 'Optimus' that can be used to tell the OS what graphics chip to direct dispaly calls to based on the application you are starting.
What a mess. Why Apple chose to use these terrible embedded Intel 3000/4000 chips on an OpenGL based operating system like OS X completely baffles me. Anyone that buys a 13" Mac with only the Intel chip is going to be VERY dissappointed in the performance and stability of their applications. -
How can I enable OpenGL for Nvidia 7600 GT (CS4)?
Hello,
today I installed Photoshop CS4 and can't enable OpenGL. So I updated my Nvidia 7600GT driver and the driver info says, that OpenGL 3.0 should work, but Photoshop dosn't allow me to enable it. What can I do?

After effects instantly crashes while using opengl with nvidias new drivers 178.24
Since I installed nvidias new drivers 178.24, after effects instantly crashes while using opengl. Anyone else experienced this?
I have Geforce 8600 GT.
As a minor note, I had major problems with the new quicktime 7.5.5 update, both After effects and Premiere got problems with interpreting footage and frames here and there got the "missing frame" look. I also got more problems so I uninstalled it instantly. Is there a major problem with the update or a major problem with me?
Thanks
/ OlleI use Vista (in retroperspective this was probably a mistake, but the company wanted to test the capabilities with Vista when we bought the computer a year ago). And specs are:

Sorry not to give more info on the Quicktime problem, I don't remember exactly what more problems there where as we have had extremely much to do these last couple of weeks and I just freaked out and uninstalled it as soon as the problems emerged. I do remember the frame issue however, it was very clear, i imported an image sequence in premiere and everything worked fine, then i updated and frames were suddenly dropped, then i uninstalled and installed 7.5 again and it worked just fine. I also tried to flush the cache, restart and generally search for the source of the problem for a couple of hours.

Well, the thread title sums it up pretty concisely.
I develop OpenGL Apps in C++ on my Lenovo T400. My OS is Windows Vista 64 and I use Switchable Graphics. When using ATI Graphics my apps hang since i installed the lastest ATI Driver for the T400 (Release: 2009-04-28) when (and only when) starting the applications in the debugger. When starting the apps directly (either compiled for Debug or Release targets, both 32-bit) however, they work (!).
As far i can tell it hangs when it tries swapping the buffers (for double buffering).
This happens both in Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. When will there be a fixed driver?timebits wrote:
This is really annoying since this is the only driver supporting OpenGL 3.0!
The current Lenovo driver is Catalyst 8.12 based (8.56 driver release). I thought OpenGL 3.0 support was only added in Catalyst 9.1 (8.57 driver)?
The next Lenovo driver will be Catalyst 9.3 based (8.59 driver.) It was supposed to have shipped by the end of April but they had problems so decided to ship the Catalyst 8.12 based driver instead (the driver we had before 4/28 was really old -- based on Catalyst 8.8 -- 8.52 driver)
For the whole saga of Lenovo/ATI's tardiness in making switchable graphics work see this thread.
If you as a developer are dependent on having uptodate functionality in your graphics driver, you should consider modding the drivers you can download from the ATI site. All the links here are for Vista 32 but I am sure you can find the corresponding Vista 64 links. This means giving up on switchable graphics and setting discrete graphics (and os autodetect off) in bios.
Starting Catalyst 9.4 (8.60 driver) ATI included switchable graphics in the drivers downloadable from their site. But unless you want to waste a lot of time -- stay with discrete graphics in bios.
Btw I tried the modded Catalyst 9.4 (8.60 driver) on my Vista 32 T500 but had terrible performance in OpenGL (not 3.0) so went back to my modded Catalyst 9.1 (8.57 driver*) which I have good performance with.

[SOLVED] Using 32-Bit OpenGL Applications on a 64-Bit System...
I enabled multilib so I can install some 32-bit programs I like to use, and I'm having an issue with OpenGL. I decided to test it with ZSNES, and here's what I get in the terminal when I switch it to a video mode that uses OpenGL after it crashes...
libGL error: failed to load driver: i965
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped) zsnes
I just built this computer and it's the first time I've used a 64-bit system, so I'm not sure what I need to do to solve this. I imagine that I need to install 32-bit drivers, but I don't know what I need to install exactly and I don't know if there's any specific way I need to go about it.

Yes, it's installed...Not sure if I have to configure anything for it. My video card is the integrated GMA x4500 if that helps with solving the problem. -
Quad-buffered OpenGL Stereo (Nvidia Quadro FX5600)
I have some early 2008 MacPros with Nvidia QuadroFX5600 graphics cards, which
were purchased expressly for doing stereo visualization and computation. At the time they were
purchased, the best option for stereo monitors was from Planar (a setup with two monitors
and a telepromptor mirror) in which the left and right eye images are drawn to different
monitors (passive stereo, not requiring a fancy glasses/transmitter setup).
http://www.planar.com/products/desktop-touch-screen-monitors/stereoscopic-3d/
These setup works beautifully under Linux and Windows, but has never worked properly
under OSX - the only supported stereo model on OSX has been, it seems, the fancy
glasses/transmitter setup, and I have never been able to find a good reason why this
was not implemented in the graphics drivers on OSX. The shutter glasses also give me
a fantastic headache with extended use due to eye strain, which is not a problem with
passive stereo.
We've been dealing with this by dual-booting into Ubuntu, but I'm seriously considering
ditching the whole OSX partition and settling on just using Ubuntu - the hardware has
been rock-solid otherwise. It just seems a shame that the folks at Apple haven't
fully supported this part of the graphics/vis niche market, given that the MacOS is otherwise a
top-notch development environment.
Any thoughts on whether this will change with Mavericks, or whether anyone has had
any experience getting this kind of setup to work on either Lion or Mountain Lion?Hello Chris,
Thanks for the information. I have a Quadro 4000 card around here that I can experiment with, but was hoping to get a response from Sapphire Technology regarding the ATI Radeon HD 7950 I had installed before I went down that road.
I spoke to a very helpful tech at PNY on Friday who told me that it would be necessary to purchase the NVidia 3D vision "Pro" kit, and that it would work with a monitor that was capable of a 120 hz refresh rate over DVI or DisplayPort. Do you know if the "Pro" kit is required, which seems to run anywhere from $749 to $899, or if I could get away with the consumer/gaming version at $129?
I'll add to the thread as soon as I hear back from Sapphire.
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it!
