Opening a new URL in an existing browser window from a Java application

I've tried one of the many codes to open a new browser window and it works, but I need something else.
Is there any way to open a new URL on the same window on a Java desktop application? (Changing the URL on the current browser window without opening a new one, I mean).

You can do that by using an add-on such as:
* NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
* New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

but it's not platform independent + I couldn't let it work in that way. It only worked with Runtime.getRuntime.exec("c:\\windows\\....\\iexplore.exe http://www.google.com");
But it's surely not platform independent.
So the answer is in fact 'I don't know'.

Control browser properties from a java application while launching a browse

How to control the properties of a browser when it is launched from a java application?
I am using the command " Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler "+url); " to launch the browser. The syntax of "exec" command is "public Process exec(String command,String[] envp) throws IOException". I would like to know whether we can give the arguments in this command to control the browser properties.
If you know any other option by which we can open a URL in a controlled browser, please share it.

Hi All,
I have found a solution to control browser parameters from Java applications.
1. Create an intermediate HTML file at runtime which contains Javascript to launch a browser. Pass the parameters like the URL and browser control parameters to the Javascript of this HTML file.
2. Open this HTML file and invoke the javascript while loading the file. Javascript will launch the required URL in a controlled browser.
3. Close the intermediate HTML file.
Limitation:
1. There will be a flickering of windows.
2. Applets will have permission issues with the above solution. For applets a better solution is JSobject. No need of an intermediate file here.

Suppose there are 5 windows of dwb browser open. Using a script I want to open URL1 in first window, then URL2 in second and so on...
Any other browser would do too.

So after a little tinkering around, I found this solution:
First I installend `xulrunner`. Then got conkeror .tar.gz from its git, extracted it and copied the folder twice; effectively creating 3 folders. Now in each folder, I edited each one's application.ini with
Name=conkeror1
Name=conkeror2
Name=conkeror3
Then I created .conkerorrc in home folder and added one single line:
url_remoting_fn = load_url_in_current_buffer;
You can also set it to `url_remoting_fn = load_url_in_new_buffer;` if you want newly issued urls to open in new buffers (tabs).
Then simply issued commands like this:
xulrunner conkeror1/application.ini "URL1"
xulrunner conkeror2/application.ini "URL2"
xulrunner conkeror3/application.ini "URL2"
Voila! Each window is targeted separately!

My first try was creating two applications, which refer to the same Component Controller. The opening of a new browser window is triggered by an action, which is called in the other application. As both applications have the same Component Controller, I thought, the context content has to be the same, but actually the context attributes are empty after opening of the new window.
In my second try I created two applications with two different Component Controllers, mapped via embedded Interface Controller. The effect is the same - I have no context content in the view.
Please, can anybody help me?

Opening an external url in the same browser

I need to open an external URL (for instance,www.google.com) from my WDA application by 'linktoaction' or 'button' event and this should be happen in the same parent window and not as a external window.
Please suggest me steps with example codes to perform this.

Why use a linktoaction? Just use a linkToURL.

You can use the target property to control how the link opens.

Hi,
Try using this option:
IE7 -> Internet options->General-> Tabs Settings (button)-> When a popup-encountered option -> Select "Always open pop-up in new tab".

How do I force firefox to open a new URl on the current viewed tab or a new one. It opnes the URl on an existing Non viewed tab

I have tried all the tab option and can not get Firefox to act like it did on the previous version. Firefox does not display the new url in the existing open tab or a new tab. Since installing the update, it opens the url in an existing backgound tab.

Open link/bookmark in new tab in same window:
*Middle-click (press the mouse scroll wheel) the link
*Ctrl+left click the link
*right-click the link, choose "Open Link in New Tab"
Open link/bookmark in new window:
* Shift+Enter on the link

When I open a new URL I want it to open in a new tab instead of replacing the last tab in line.

When I have several tabs open and I open a new URL the new URL replaces the last tab on my bar. I would just like for the new URL to open in a new tab.

When you're looking at the PDF that's on your site, is it opened in the browser or directly i Acrobat/Reader? If in the borwser, do you know if it's being viewed in the browser's default PDF viewer or Acrobat/Reader? It probably won't work in non-Adobe PDF viewers.
Are you saying that when you click the link that two new browser tabs are opened with the same URL, instead of just one as you'd expect, or something else?

Try running Pandora in its own tab and leaving that tab open (Safari 7.1.5, OS 10.9.5). I don't have Pandora to try this, but it works for me otherwise.

Why is Firefox opening a separate browser window for each link instead of a new tab in the current browser window?

Suddenly firefox has started opening a new, separate browser window for every link and thing I open. It used to just open a new tab in the current browser. I must have closed down 15 browsers when trying to get back to a previous web page - the back button doesn't work when each click leads to a new window opening! I went into options and my settings have not changed, they still say "open new tab" for links. This just started happening out of the blue today. What's up?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

The command to open a new window would be the "_blank" part of a command to link to a web page in the code below.

As far as the new window closing and getting back to where you were in the original window, I don't understand where that original window might have gone to... You should be wherever you last left it.

Open new browser window from a JApplet

I want to open a new browser window from a JApplet.My first thought was to use the Live Connect technology but it worked only with simple applets not with JApplets.Then i tried it by getting the Applet context (getAppletContext() method) but it still didn't work with JApplet...(it worked with Applet).I believe it has something to do with the applet security but i haven't yet figured it out.
For example when i call the getAppletContext() method from a JApplet i get an java.security.AccessControlException ... .Thanks

The getAppletContext() method does work with JApplets too.Still , i have problems with the Live connection alternative.It seems that it by importing the netscape.javascript package i get the security eror that i mention above...
