Opening a window in another .nib

Hi guys,
I have two .nib files, the default MainMenu and the MyDocument Interface Builder files here, but when I click a button (in this case "New file") I want the MainMenu window to activate the window that's inside the MyDocument file.
How can I do this?

Is your "New File" button on a window inside the MainMenu.nib file, and is the purpose of button to create a new blank document?
If so, you need to set the buttons target to first responder. You probably want to set the button's action to the same as the File > New menu command (I don't remember of the top of my head what the action name is).

Opening one window from another

I've created a method which opens a window that takes an input from the user and then closes and returns the input to the main program. When I called this method from a test program it seemed to work perfectly but when I tried to call it from my main GUI via an action listener on a button it just seems to crash.
So my input window would wait until the return button was pressed, I set up a while loop which delays the program until a flag is changed by pressing the return button. As far as I can tell it is this while loop which is causing the problem. Has anyone got any idea why this method works with my test program but not through a GUI? I expect that there is also a better way of retrieving this information from my input window and that I have probably just forgotten something very simple. If anyone has got any suggestions I would be very grateful.

Hi Tom,
the while loop is not very suitable for this situation.
The best solution, in my opinion, is to attach ActionListener to the 'submit' or 'ok' button of your child window, from the main GUI.
Let's say A is your main GUI class and B is the JDialog (better if modal) that should return the value. Proceed as following:
1. in the class B implement a method that attaches a listener l to the Ok button
public void addOkListener(ActionListener l)
okButton.addActionListener(l);
}2. in the class A, create a ActionListener object like:
ActionListener al = new ActionListener()
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent)
      do whatever you like, this code is executed when the user clicks
      on the button OK in the JDialog.
      For example you may want to retrieve the value from the JDialog:
      System.out.println(b.getMyValue());
}3. in the class A, attach the listener to B:
b.addOkListener(al);Antonio :)

Open portal window in another portal

I need connect from one portal to another one.
Explanation: I need to create iview or something like that which will open another portal in my portal, but like another user. It have to connect automatically, and I can't see the user name and password. Can you help me where to start?

If you mean that you want to share content of a second Portal onto yours then you can use the Federated Portal Concept.

How to open multiple windows from ALV?

I have a button on each line of ALV.
If the user clicks on the button on the first line, it shoud open a window in another session.
Now the user will be able to click on the button on the next line and another window should popu up.
Thus the user can compare the window contents and do the corrections.
How to achive this opening of windows simultaneously?

I tried the above function module and it does open anotehr session - but I am not able to pass values . I have to pass SAP Script texts and opent he window. but the above func mod calls t codes and allows bdcdata, messages or spa/gpa parameters only.
So I am back with my question - how to open the session with the text lines?

I switched on my PC and there was an update for realplayer. Since then firefox will not load. It is running according to Task Manager. I've downloaded a another copy of the programme using IE but whilst it loaded as a programme, does not open a window.

Helps if I give the correct link ! <br/>The press shift button appears to still work, but the option to start in safe mode from the programs listing of a standard install I do not think exists anymore.
Safe mode will start from a command line, (or a shortcut) and in some circumstances you may need to enter the full path name on a command or shortcut detailed instructions are at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Remember (at least at this stage) do not make changes when you get the options list, just click on the continue button.
If you think that RealPlayer is causing the problem you could uninstall that for now.
Firefox recent versions are 3.6 4.0 (and 5.0 in beta). There is some debate as to whether creating new profiles or re-installing Firefox is the simplest method of troubleshooting and solving some of these problems, personally I use multiple profiles and multiple versions of Firefox, and tend to forget the required procedures are less than straightforward. For now at least try [[safe mode]] again.

I came up with an alternative solution.
Instead of actually trying to move the JInternalFrame from one JDesktopPane to another, I added a single, maximized JInternalFrame to the left side. When one of the right side frames is to be docked, I merely copy its ContentPane to the single JInternalFrame on the left, set the original to be non-visible, and adjust the properties of the JSplitPane to make the "docked" frame appear.
When the "close" button on the docked frame is pressed, I simply undo this procedure to "undock" the frame and redisplay it on the right-hand side (with its content intact from the docked frame, but in its original position).

Unable to save document - Read Only or Open by another user error occurs when PDF is opened from Windows Explorer

Adobe Pro XI - using Windows 7 Pro OS
When a PDF document is opened from Windows Explorer, and pages are added, deleted, notations made, any type of changes, it cannot be saved until Windows Explorer is fully closed. If you try to save the document, you receive the following error - "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it opened. Please save the document with a different name or in a differnt folder. " I have confirmed the document is not read only, it is not open by another user, and it is not open multiple times. Once you fully close Windows Explorer, and try to save the document, it saves without a problem.
Are there settings in either Adobe Pro XI or Windows that will allow you to save documents without closing Windows Explorer first?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide. This error is a frustration since I open all my documents through Windows Explorer.

I have multiple iPhoto libraries and when I selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open apps window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.

If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

Firefox wont open a game in another window

Nope. Apple simply removed this feature without any warning. Why? Who knows. This really reduces the iTunes workflow for many of us. I have yet to see any offical Apple comment on this blunder, one of many in iTunes 11. Time to look for a 3rd party alternative.

Open every window in a new tab, even from another application?

I've got the extension Glims but even with all those options on, my other applications in Mac OS are still opening a brand new window and moving it too out of position.
Any way to make every window, no matter what app is opening a window, to place it in another tab?
I have BetterTouchTool but that's not controlling the window movement as it should be doing.
I can do this with Google Chrome but I would like to stay with Safari.

Hi i'm having difficulty doing this, i'm redoing the business

However when i tried to do this instead of another window opening,

How do you stop popups. Every time I open a window in Safari another window opens up

Opening new window or tab to the same site being viewed on another tab/wind

I am a new MacBook user. In my past experience with Internet Explorer, I would often open a new window to the same site that I was already viewing through File>Open New Window. This method was often preferable to opening a new window through the IE icon and loading to the homepage. I have gotten quite used to this pattern and am trying to figure out if there is a way to open a new tab or window to the same page that I am already viewing. I know how to open a new tab or window, but rather than going to the same page as in IE, the new tab is blank and the new window goes to the home page. I am using Safari and Firefox and can't figure out how to do this in either browser.

Try this, I think it works for both Safari and Firefox (not 100% sure on Firefox but think so...)
Press command+l (lowercase L) and then press commandoptionpress return. That will open a new window with the current webpage in the new window. To open a new tab with the same details, omit the option key in the second step.
Command key = one with the Apple symbol
Option key may be called Alt on your keyboard.
