You need to switch from using VB6 at this point. As of the latest update, VB6 compiled applications will stop working with Adobe Reader. See the following KB:

I cannot open PDF files within Firefox.
I'm running Firefox 3.6.23 on a Macbook pro with version 10.6.8 installed. However I'm unable to open pdf files online. It works on google chrome from the same computer, just not firefox. There is a blank area where the pdf file should open, and nothing happens. I cannot download the file using firefox either. I've tried restarting and such, can you please help me?

Store and Display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms
Hi all,
How can i store and display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms 10g?.
ArifHow to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
Solution
Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
[OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
[JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
cd [JacobStage]
copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
Open a DOS command prompt.
Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
Sign the files, and check the output for success:
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
you may skip this step. Otherwise,
Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
errors.
Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
@[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
-- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
grant execute on webutil_db to public;
5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
to the CLASSPATH entry.
6) Start the OC4J instance
7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
Note 303682.1
If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
8) Create a new FMB.
Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
NULL;
to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
show_webutil_information (TRUE);
in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
the "Application Server URL" is empty.
Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
10) Run your form.sarah -
Opening pdf files on websites to fill them in on the website
With my iMac I can open and fill in all pdf files from websites using OSX 10.6.5. On my macbook pro using 10.7.5 or later safari will no longer open pdf files on websites and just gives you a blank black page. I use these all the time on sites from the IRS or other taxing agencies and fill in the forms and save them or print them. I have not upgraded my OS on my desktop because of this. Why is this happening and how do I fix it if it can be fixed. I talked to someone at applecare and they said the fuctionality was no longer in the operating system to do this and I can only download the pdf files. That is not sufficient because these are fillable forms on their websites. All businesses use this function and if apple really wants people to use their computers for business I would hope that their not so monumentally stupid as to write this out of the newer OS. HELP
Try another browser such as Firefox until this gets sorted out.

Feedback
Due to the way the support community web site has been working lately, your post may have dropped to where no one could access it. The "More" button at the bottom left of the page hasn't been too reliable. -
Firefox no longer opens PDF files. Explorer works OK. I have checked the Applications window in the Tools/Options and it says I am using PDF-xChange viewer....It just does not do anything. I get the message in the Download Error window which says...."could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Is the same error which I get when I attempt to open a PDF file on a webpage using the Firefox browser....Explorer works OK so I am now forced to Explorer to read PDF files via a browser.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== After removing a old copy of PDF-xChange Viewer and updating to the last versionThe error message suggests that the file (pdf) that you're trying to download cannot be saved in the folder Firefox tries to save it in.
This can be due to several things - it could be a non-existing folder (could be a problem with the updated application), the hard drive could be too full to store the file (less likely if you can generally surf the net without error messages) or it could contain an error.
To complicate things a little further, it seems to me that you have (at least) 3 different PDF-handling plugins in Firefox from different programs:
PDF-XChange Viewer Netscape Gecko Plugin
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.3.2"
Zeon PDF Plugin For Mozilla
This shouldn't matter too much, thou, as it will most likely simply use either the latest installed or the first one it finds when looking up associations for files of type 'pdf'.
First, in Tools > Options... > tab General > section File download, select "Save files in" and Browse your way to a (non-writeprotected!) folder on a drive where you're certain there is enough free space - like the Desktop folder to make the files end up on your Windows desktop.
Second, under Applications as you mention yourself, find all document types related to PDF files, and set these to one of the programs. Check the entire list to be sure there isn't one hiding under one of the other programs' document types (Adobe Acrobat document, PDF X-Change and Zeon).
Restart Firefox, and try opening a PDF again.
If it fails once more, try changing the documents again to one of the other programs, like "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
If it STILL fails, change it to simply "Save file". Then you can simply browse your way to the download folder with Windows Explorer, and doubleclick the PDF file to see which program actually handles PDF files as default on the machine, and if it works properly.
If Firefox flatly refuses to save the PDF files in a folder which you're certain both exist and has space for the file, some (probably security related) program is most likely interfering with Firefox, preventing it in storing PDF files on the system. -
Parameters for opening PDF files in a browser
I read some of the posts about making a text link from an html page to a specific location in a pdf document in the browser. I set up the parameters, as I understand it, according to the document "Parameters for Opening PDF Files." The result from my test took me to the top of page 1, not to the bookmark on page 3 that I specified. See the link below. What is wrong with the parameters?
http://www.tabardtheatre.org/YPASCfolder/2012/SummerYouthProgram2012.pdff#page=3&bookmark= anniejr
You can also go to the website: http://www.tabardtheatre.org/audition.html and click on the text link (in blue).The PDF Open Parameters do not contain the option to link directly to a bookmark, as was mentioned, but I've developed a script that can add this functionality to your files. Have a look here, if you're interested: http://try67.blogspot.com/2011/06/acrobat-link-to-specific-bookmark-in.html

How to Open PDF Files Embedded in an Excel File
This is a solution for Mac users who need to open .PDF files that are embedded inside an Excel file created in Office for Windows.
I hope this solution works for other file format combinations. I am doing some experimentation to find out and will repost if I have new learnings.
Problem:
- Colleague sends me a .XLS which has an embedded .PDF on one sheet
- Office: Mac 2011 will not open the .PDF because of lack of OLE support
Solution:
- Copy the .XLS file to a new file
- Rename the file from <filename.xls> to <filename.zip>
- Open the .ZIP with Archive Utility
- Browse into the resulting "decompressed" folder to filename > xl > embeddings
- Find the file of interest, named something like <oleObject2.bin>
- Rename to <oleObject.pdf>
VOILA!
The PDF is recovered in its fully glory.Hi Ram,
Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
After logging into Desktop Intelligence, you may be presented with a message stating:
u201CYou have received 1 document from users"
Examining the Inbox from within the Desktop Intelligence client shows no objects visible in your Inbox.
The object in your Inbox is in a format other than Desktop Intelligence format such as, PDF, XLS or other format. Therefore the object is not recognized by the Desktop Intelligence client inbox browser.
Log in to Info View or the Central Management Console, browse to your Inbox and verify the file name and format that has been sent to your Inbox. The object may be saved, copied, moved or deleted as necessary.

Problem with opening PDF files in Google Chrome browser
We have a web page displaying links to dynamically generated PDF files located on the internal repository. This files are not just text PDF files but PDF forms created using XFA technology. This means that they must be opened and filled only in Adobe Reader and not in Foxit Reader or browser's built-in PDF viewer.
Now, the problem is that a Google Chrome browser opens any PDF file using its own PDF viewer. And I want to force this browser to open PDF files in Adobe Reader.
How can I achieve this without disabling 'Chrome PDF Viewer' plugin since I can't do this for all users of our web site?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. We use LiveCycle ES3.Each user would have to set each browser individually.
Note: I don't think it's possible to set the default PDF viewer with code for every user who visits the site.
See the following link to enable Adobe Reader as the default PDF viewer in different browsers:
http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
Note: Not all PDF viewer browser plug-ins support PDF submissions, and most 3rd party viewers may not support forms created with LiveCycle or forms with Extended Reader Rights enabled. -

Opening PDF Files Not Working Sporadically
I inherited a VB.Net Windows application. It uses MDI Parent and MDI Child forms. Two of the child forms have viewers that open PDF files. In both cases the child forms are launched and the PDF file opened when the user selects a menu item. My application has references to four Adobe dlls, AcroPDF.dll, adodb.dll, AxInterop.AcroPDFLib.dll, and Interop.AcroPDFLib.dll. In both cases when the menu item for the desired document is selected (this raises a button click event) a very simple line of code " AxAcroPDF1.src = [path]\ [name of PDF file] " is executed. When executed from a CD, the application works fine on the development machine and on some user workstations, but on at least one workstation when the user selects the menu item that open the PDF file they get an unhandled exception error. The error message is quite lengthy, so I will only include excerpts. "0x8000405 Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component" is the meat of the error message.
The user's machine on which the error occurs has Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Distiller, as does another user workstation on which the application runs fine. Windows Vista is the standard, so I do not believe it is being affected by the version of Windows. All of our workstations are supposed to be imaged using the same master; however individual users can have other software installed as needed. We do have some stringent security requirements and they vary depending on the network the particular user is on. I do not think this would have any affect on a standalone Windows application running from a CD, however I am not certain that is the case.
Any answers, suggestions, thoughts, etc. on why this error would occur on some machines but not others will be greatly appreciated. There is so much on the net that my Google searches return it is difficult to filter through all of it. The error message in question can apparently be generated many ways and so far I have not found anything that is specific to the error occurring when attempting to open a PDF file within a Windows application.The user's workstation on which the application throws an error has Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as does one of the other workstations on which the application runs correctly. I verified this with the user, so we can eliminate the version of the software as being the culprit. Please express any thoughts or ask any questions you feel are pertinent. I would like to get to the bottom of this and will gladly do whatever will help other posters help me. Thanks.

How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?
Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files. How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?
Message was edited by: veeryTalonted"Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free. -
Can't open pdf files with firefox
After searching for a certain topic on Google I've tried to open the link with a pdf file, but nothing happens.
I receive an error message as if the Proxy that we use here at the company was refusing the connection, but in fact, I've already configured it correctly. This error started after the last update to Firefox 33.0.2.
I've already tried to change the configurations at Options > Applications > Portable Document Format with the option use Adobe Reader (default) and use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox), and also installed an Plugin "PDF Viewer", but nothing solved the problem.
Does anyone has the same problem?
Thanks■ Use '''Tools -> Options -> Applications ->''' <br> then look under content for Adobe Acrobat forms etc;
<br> note a choice of options is usually available
* see [[Options window - Applications panel]]
Firefox is of course a web browser. <br>Acrobat reader is Adobe's program used to read and display the pfd files on your computer. Other programs may be used instead of Acrobat reader. You would normally have the Acrobat program and the pdf file present on the local computer, often both on the same hard drive, if you were opening individual pdf files directly with Acrobat.
Firefox uses a plugin so that it may use Acrobat to open pdf files and display the results within a firefox window or tab. If you do not have that plugin installed, or it is not enabled firefox may be unsure what to do with the file and offer to save it to whatever your default local download location is, without attempting to open the file in firefox.

Hi,
I am trying to open 2 PDFs in Photoshop using Applescript, but there is a huge delay before PS even attempts to open/rasterise the files.
Beyond "open thisItem as PDF with options..." i don't know what I could do differently.
A solution would be to use javascript. I have found a number of scripts to open PDF files and then do stuff with them, but they all rely on a folder as an input for batch processing. I have done a lot of Applescripting, but no Javascript, so I am not sure how to pass 2 filepaths to the javascript. Can anyone enlighten me?
I have tried using the javascript from ScriptListener, but even though I change the resolution to 200, it is still opening at 300. Is this a bug, or am I missing another piece of code?
I would be grateful for any ideas.
IanThere is not normally a delay when I open the PDF usually. When the script is run, there is a delay of at least 1-2 minutes before you see Photoshop display a progress bar.
The PDFs have been converted to process, so contain no overprints, and in many cases are mostly rasterised already. They can be quite large but open up quickly in normal conditions.
This is a simplified version of the code:
on open (addeditems)
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
repeat with thisItem in addeditems
open thisItem as PDF with options {class:PDF open options, resolution:200}
--do stuff
end repeat
end tell
end open
Thanks
Ian
