OperationNotSupportedException in Naming Listener

I tried to connect to active directory and set up a listener.
EventContext src = (EventContext)(new InitialContext(env).lookup("cn=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com"));
NamingListener listener = new SampleNCListener("nc1");
src.addNamingListener("", EventContext.ONELEVEL_SCOPE,listener);
I obtained the code of SampleNCListener from Event Listeners .
It throws an error saying :

    Is it possible to somehow prevent the database from registering the service name ORCL with the listener?
    If you're wondering why I'm asking that, it's because this database is a duplicated production database (on a different host), and I'd like to prevent the possibility of mistakenly connecting to the production DB. I'm aware it would be better if I change the database's SID altogether, but currently that's not possible.

    Thanks for the answer.
    Jut a question at the beginning. Doesn't the SID_LIST_listener_name parameter define which databases the listener listens to (and not the single services the database offers)? As I understand, I can prevent automatic registration of a database into the listener, but not selectively allow only some services the database offers? Maybe I'm completely wrong, so please correct me if it's so :-)

    I want enable listener tracing for one of DB instance for tracing connection time-out error in Prod env.
    Any suggestions how to enable for single instance only.

  • Oracle 11g Express: listener/DB stopped regularly ...

    Dear all,
    we currently use oracle DB 11g express edition on Win XP in order to do nigthly test of our product accessing the DB via a JDBC driver. After two successful nightly test communicating via JDBC doesn't work anymore due to stopped DB listener. The first error message I got was "ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection", I fixed it via settings up maximum processes to 450, then I got the next error message where I don't know what to do "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error". Please can you help me since I need a stable DB for nightly continuous integration tests.

    Bumping processes would seem to be a symptom fix, not a problem fix- if a session can't get a connection because available processes are at the max, must be some client programs with a bug/glitch where they aren't letting go of their session(s).
    Eg. maybe hitting an exception block, and the code never sees a "close connection" call? Until that bug (the problem) gets fixed, increasing process limits is not going to be much of a fix. Just a guess, can't know for sure without seeing the code.
    Anyways, for the ora-12560 something may have gone astray (or changed?) with host network adapter settings- hostname change? IP address change? IPv6? Is the host a DHCP client? Is there more than one NIC on the host? Do both the hostname and its IP address(es) resolve correctly? (... ipconfig /all ... `hostname` ... nslookup <hostname> ... nslookup <n.n.n.n> ...)
    One item to try, stop the listener and move the listener.ora file "out of the way" (eg move listener.ora listener.ora.bk) as others have suggested here before. Any RDBMS install has its default listener, named LISTENER, and if all the default settings are OK for your setup then using that should work fine. Double checking that the listener service still shows in the services applet would also be advisable, only takes a moment ... Start/Run/services.msc ...
    Another possible fix for ora-12560 is setting ...HOST=0.0.0.0... in listener.ora, that is the "any IPv4" address setting, but that is advisable only if the host has one NIC, otherwise the instance would be accepting connections at an address you might not want made available to remote clients.

    No, no, and no.
    No. The local_listener parameter doesn't create anything.  It tells the database where to find the listener so that it can register itself with the listener.  And it is only needed if the listener is not using the default port of 1521.

    No, there is no such this as a 'dynamic listener'.  There is dynamic registration with a listener.  But there is no 'dynamic listener'.  A listener is a listener is a listener.
    I don't know if you can have two listeners with the same name running from two different homes or not. I've never been so insane as to try it.  If it *is* possible, it would certainly be the most difficult to maintain multi-listener setup I can imagine.
    One more time.  Repeat after me.  "One single listener with the default name  of LISTENER and using the default port of 1521 was designed to support multiple databases of multiple versions running from multiple homes.  Anything else is needless complexity."
    Please tell us again what problem you thought you were solving by having multiple listeners ...

    I am trying to install Oracle Secure Enterprise Search 11.1.2.2 on Windows 7 64-Bit Enterprise Edition.

    i have done that. i copied the tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, listener.ora files from the c:>oracle-home\network\admin folder into oracle_devhome\network\admin folder. i have also set the environment variable oracle_sid=skoolman. skoolman is my sid as you can see on the tnsnames.ora. but the error massage still comes up as soon as i run forms from the forms builder environment.
    but as i said i am able to connect to the database with my user name and pass word from within the forms builder environment to access my tables and create data blocks etc but as soon as i run the form through internet explorer the forms servlet boots up and the error massage ora-12560 tns protocol adapter error pops up.

    Our unit have two(2) dev group but shared 1 database server.
    We installed 2 development database on the common DEV machine namely DEV1 and DEV2.
    This is so bacause each unit wanted to be indepent on each his database. Each one do his thing w/o interfering the others.
    The problem is I am not so good in configuring the listener. The DEV1 which is first installed uses the generic named LISTENER.
    And when the second database DEV2 is installed it rides on the same LISTENER.
    How do I create a separate listener for DEV2?

    Thanks a lotOne listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.

    MY DB Oracle 11gR1 on Linux is running fine, however there is a problem in Oracle Enterprise Manager Console.
    I dropped and re-create dbconsole using:

    Can anyone shed some light on this... I have just installed red hat linux 9 and have been trying install Oracle 9.2 (i have followed many instructions from sites and have done all the export cmds etc...). But i keep getting a ORA-12545 error when trying to connect (no target host found)i have looked at the listener.ora file and cant seem to see anything wrong. What else can i do to solve my problem???     There are several issues that you have to check out.
    ORA-12545: TNS:name lookup failure
    Cause: The listener on the remote node cannot be contacted.
    Action: Perform these steps:
    Verify that the ADDRESS in the tnsnames.ora file and the listener.ora file is correct.
    Verify that the listener on the remote node has been started. Enter:
    lsnrctl
    LSNRCTL> STATUS [listener_name]
    listener_name is the name of the listener defined in the listener.ora file. It is not necessary to identify the listener if you are using the default listener, named LISTENER.
    If the output indicates the listener is not running, try starting it with the command:
    LSNRCTL> START [listener_name]

  • How to create a database link to SQL Server from a RAC environment

    We have a 4 node RAC running 11.2.0.3 binaries on 64-bit linux.
    Grid owns the listener named listener.
    Oracle owns the database.

    Thanks all! But I tried to configure and I am getting
    TNS-01201: Listener cannot find executable /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/dbhome_1/bin/InfoEdb10 for SID InfoEdb10
    Listener failed to start. See the error message(s) above...
    So! What I did was
    1. Configure the odbc from the OS (only one node) and create the DSN and its odbc files.  connectivity works from Operating Systems.
    2. Create the listener entry (under GRID) user.
    3. Create the remotedb.ora file under $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin

    I am afraid I am back.
    I now have a primary database and a standby database and logs are being shipped but not applied. Done some research and I have got to the point where in my alert log I find the following when I try to start MRP:

    I always cleanup the standby before trying another dup
    OVERVIEW
    Step 1 - Password file fro standby - Copy from primary and rename
    Step 2 - Directory Structure on the remote server - Make sure noting is missing
    Step 3 - Oracle Net Setup - entry for the CLONE in your TNSNAMES.ORA on both servers
    Step 4 - SID_LIST_LISTENER addition ( assumes listener named LISTENER )
    Step 5 - Timeouts set in listener.ora and sqlnet.ora Both Servers
    Step 6 - Initialization Parameter File for the Auxiliary Instance
    Step 7 - Set SID for Auxiliary Instance
    Step 8 - Create an SPFILE for the new database by using a pfile with the INIT settings
    Step 9 - Shutdown and startup nomount on new Spfile ( Auxiliary Instance )
    Step 10 - Start RMAN and run the DUPLICATE Command

  • Patching doubts

    I am performing patching. The patching is going fine and there is nothing wrong in that. Actually we are patching the rac environment so all the environment has got min four nodes. Actually in the instructions we are asked to patch in each and every node. Consider the same db is running in all four nodes. My doubt here is as we patch only the oracle home gets patched right? so even if there are four nodes there will be only one shared oracle home so in this case why we need to patch each and every node? Please forgive if my question is stupid or if my understanding on the RAC is poor.

    Although 10g is designed to support cluster-wide sharing of Oracle software, should you do it? Keep in mind that if you do so, the availability of the Oracle software becomes a potential single point of failure for the whole cluster compared to the local per-server installation approach.
    We also have a grid environment where it is 16 node so according to you all these should be patched individually right?

  • OATS and multiple NICs

    on a controller system with multiple network interface, is there a way to force OATS to use a specific one????
    our scenario: The Controller system has NIC A and NIC B. All OATS agents are connected only to NIC B. Yet all OATS services (at ports 8088,9001, etc.) are for some reasons bound to just NIC A. We can ping and connect to those agents on NIC B but can't talk to the services on NIC A.
    Ideas? Thanks for any inputs

    The WebLogic management console is the most likely place to look. I recall that you can change the ports here, so the NIC management may be possible as well. The JMSServer may be something to investigate after you are logged into the Console. Also the Console-> Servers->AdminServer(admin) has a general configuration setting named "Listen Address".
