OPMN Process Manger failed to start during Oracle 10gAS installation

Hi,
I am installing OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 on AIX 5.3.
I am facing this problem while installing infrastructure
services.
I am facing an issue like
"OPMN Process Manger failed to start"
Please help me to solve this.
regards,
Mat

Hi,
Thanks for the replay. I am doing the installation once again. Now I am not facing OPMN problem.
Now I am facing some another problem. That DBCA fails to create infrastructre metadata respository database. Why it is happening?
regards,
Mat.

  • OPMN Process Manager failed to start - libmodapi.so libclntsh.so not found

    Hi all,
I am completely new to Oracle in its entirety. I am trying to install Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Console 10.2.0.1.0 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.1 through the OUI using the new database install. When I get to setting up the Oracle Application Server, it tells me the OPMN Process Manager failed to start, tells me to check the logs in /oms10g/opmn/logs, and to start OPMN manually before hitting retry.
The log files in that directory do not seem to contain any errors.
When I run ./opmnctl stopall, ./opmnctl startall, ./opmnctl status, I get no obvious errors, and then the following:
    DSA ~ DSA ~ Down
    HTTP_Server ~ HTTPServer ~ Alive
    LogLoader ~ logloaderd ~ Down
    dcm-daemon ~ dcm-daemon ~ Down
    OC4J ~ home ~ Alive
    WebCache ~ WebCache ~ Alive
    WebCache ~ WebCacheAdmin ~ Alive
When I do ./opmn start I get the following:
./opmn: error while loading shared libraries: libmodapi.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
When I do a ldd ./opmn I get the following errors:
    libmodapi.so => not found
    libclntsh.so.10.1 => not found
I am assuming my problem is that these two libraries are not linked in. I have looked through the forums, and found closely related threads, but none that seemed to help, most notably changing my PATH. If anyone has any suggestions, I would welcome them. Thanks for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Don

    Hi All,
We all agree that best practice involves a test installation. My original post was about a problem I was having with the creation of my test bed. I did create my own manual, which I am sure is not the best manual ever created, but does work to get the software installed. If it is proven out, I will post it to try and return something to the community.
In order to do this, I needed to read thousands of pages of documentation so far, which does not even scratch the surface of the total amount on OTN. I am still revising my instructions as I find that the documentation commonly assumes the reader has been installing Oracle for some time and is fully aware of all the appropriate acronyms and the entire logical and physical structure of the database. In order to just read many of the documents, I had to draw out a map of Oracle on a whiteboard as I went. As a systems administrator, should I have to search through all those papers, manuals, the web, etc. and try to gain an advanced DBA understanding to get a working default installation? Perhaps it seems like I am just a new user who is whining, but how many programs can you think of where this type of effort is required?
In looking at the relationship between the DBA and the Systems Administrator, where should we draw a line between their tasks?
Should the DBA have to learn how to assess appropriate server hardware, and then install and administrate every flavor of Windows, UNIX, Linux, etc. in any given environment? Should a DBA be required to build a Linux kernel, configure Active Directory, or install Solaris before installing Oracle?
Should the Systems Administrator have to learn the nuances of installing and optimizing Oracle databases in order to just put the base software on the system and configure the kernel so it is ready for a DBA?
More interesting, as stated above, I could hand you the Gentoo Handbook, and without knowing a single thing about Gentoo Linux, you would have a default installation of the Gentoo OS. You could also grab step-by-step instructions for a default installation of MySQL on Gentoo, or a myriad of other programs, for that matter. This would hardly replace the Gentoo systems administrator or MySQL DBA, but it does serve a very valid purpose of enabling the systems administrator and DBA. Shouldn’t Oracle have something similar?
I would think the Systems Administrator knowledgeable in the OS and Kernel should be able to perform the first half of the installation task where they are more likely to be an expert, and then allow the DBA to create and optimize the databases they install, which they in turn can spend years learning how to do. Time that the DBA spends learning the OS or time the Systems Administrator spends learning Oracle is valuable in the long run, but it is also extra time to get the initial database up and running. One of the largest reasons IT personnel exist at all is to keep users from having to spend too much time learning about their computers to get their work done. Shouldn’t this also translate between IT groups?
Databases are one of the few software installations that systems administrators commonly don't have to maintain on corporate servers. The best comparison I know of is web services. In this manner web servers are very similar, and are commonly installed by a team as well. I am perfectly capable of creating a default install of Apache, Tomcat, or IIS from step-by-step instructions provided by Apache or Microsoft without much more tailored information than the IP address and system name we are going to use to fill in the blanks during the installation.
While I have performed the role of sole IT staff at a small software engineering company, and have therefore been the SysNetWebSecDB admin hydra in the past, in larger companies there seems to be no problem with having the system administrator create a default installation of Apache or IIS, having the network team configure the switches and DMZ, and having the web team customize the server and design the site without each of them having to know everything.
So the above is a good idea and I would encourage
them to do it because after that, it makes them
stonger than when they use an already completed one
to install.Sometimes there is time to sit down and read all the instructions and become a more robust IT professional. Sometimes there is only time to read the Getting Started section and you have to read the full instructions and optimize later if there is time. Sometimes you have outside influences that mean it has to get done in less time than it should, whether or not the justification for rushing is reasonable.
Should I plan to read every knowledge base article ever published by Microsoft in order to create a test bed installation of Windows 2008? Honestly, I’d still be reading the NT4 docs.
Not only does not every business have a DBA, or the money to hire one, sometimes the business does not want to do so, or sometimes the security is such that the DBA is not part of the unit allowed to utilize administrative access on the servers. That doesn’t mean they don’t need a database tomorrow.
As an IT professional, I will never be able to come close to encompassing the amount of knowledge I actually could use to do my job. I try to specialize in a few areas so that I have the ability to keep up with the exponential rate of IT expansion, but I basically consider a vast part of my job being constantly thrown into the deep end, and, fair or not, getting things done anyway. Hopefully that makes me good at my job. The question is how much time and effort I should need to apply before I can get to a reasonable starting point where everyone else can do their work too.
    There
is normally no single document to achieve or complete
and installation unless the bespoke type. Apart from
the Install Guide, there could be Readme, Release
notes, Adendum etc. While I noted in a previous post that I shouldn't be too hard on Oracle in trying to document such a massive effort, that doesn’t mean that their documentation doesn’t need work. Why is the documentation for a single product spread out over tens of thousands of pages? It should be obvious that this has resulted in redundant and often conflicting documents, including the dozen readme documents in the installation files, the readme documents in the installed files, the install guide, the readme and addendum for each of those, the release notes for each of those, and a new set for each patch.
Obviously, for any installation, I need to complete a document for my own environment that contains the proper network configuration for our own LAN, or the proper partitioning. I do this for any program. Oracle needs me to change the name of the OS install to get their installer not to error out on their own OS. If OFA is so desirable, why not make the default install explain and follow OFA? Basic issues like this are highly avoidable, and shouldn’t be seen by the end user, even if in this case the end user is a highly technical audience capable of adjusting.
It will hard to get a single document because they
will be platform dependent and what someone did in
their install, may not always work everywhere.Again, please note that Oracle has "released" an OS that they intend for people to use on their Oracle validated hardware as a premier platform for their Oracle database. It isn't a stretch to feel that Oracle should then be able to provide valid, step-by-step instructions for a default installation of their own software, on validated hardware, on their own OS. I’m not expecting an optimized and populated database, but if the hardware, OS, and software are all under Oracle’s control, there aren’t really any variables other than machine name and IP address for a default install.
Hopefully my current knowledge will work for the time being, and I will be able to optimize appropriately in the future as I can.

  • The OPMN process manager failed to start

During the install of the 10g Infrastructure component I get the following
    error
The OPMN process manager failed to start. Please check the logs in
/home/oracle/Infrastructure/opmn/logs directory for the cause of failure.
Once the cause of failure has been remedied, start OPMN manually and click
    retry.
I've checked the status of OPMN with 'opmnctl status' and it show me that the OPMN is running
    What is the prb?
    thanks.

It could have taken few seconds to get up and OUI would have erred before that.
As long as all services are coming up, you have nothing to worry. If you want, you can increase logging levels in opmn.xml for more details

  • RE:The OPMN Process Manage failed to start.

    Hi everybody,
Can anybody help with following issue below, please?
I just install Oracle unbreakable linux operating system. I am trying to install infrastructure on it. All the time i am get error "The OPMN Process Manager failed to start". I changed the system requirement like it stated to the installation manual. But I am still getting same error.
I will appreciate to one will give me solution for this problem.
    Thank,
    Arthur

    Poa,
The operating system is Red Hat Enterprise version 4 ( 86-64 bits). My computer specifications: Process is Dual core AMD x86 64bits, and RAM is 2GB. I am trying to install Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2). I checked all the prerequisite before attempting installation.
    Thank you,

  • HTTP Server fails to starts during E-Business installation

    Hello All,
I am having issues installing e-business suite 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 6.2.
I have applied all the correct packages (and a couple that were not listed in the installation instructions), applied required patches, upgraded the startCD version to the latest, run the md5sum checks on the Stage directory, and a bunch of manual stuff which it doesn't tell you to do in the installation notes, but you have to do to make it work, e.g. linking unzip 5.x from the startCD to /usr/bin/unzip. I thought that I had it cracked until it failed at the last HTTP Server checks.
I have attempted to restart services manually but it appears as though the HTTP server cannot start due to a missing library libdb-4.3.so:
    HTTP_Server~1.log
    */u01/applR12/inst/apps/<SID>_<HOST>/ora/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd*
*/u01/applR12/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libdb-4.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory*
There was another post where a similar issue was resolved in a OEL 5 x86.x64 install by applying a i383 gdbm package, and linking the existing library as the document id which you posted suggested.
This package cannot be applied, as I have attempted.
I then started to look for the library which is reported in the logs as being missing, i.e. libdb-4.3.so. This does not appear to exist for OEL 6.
I then looked further afield and found a Centos 6.2 rpm which contained this library. I extracted this and linked it to the libdb.so.2 (patch 6078836).
I am getting the following from the adstrtal.log (I ran the cat command as root not adstrtal.sh which I ran as the application user):

    Hello Hussein,
Thank you for getting back to me! As per the installation instructions it states the following:
    # cd /usr/lib
    # ln -s libdb-4.7.so libdb-4.3.so
However there is no libdb-4.7.so library there to link to.
I have installed the db4 i686 & x86_64 packages which contain this library, then performed the above. I then ran the adstrtal.sh command which completed without incident.
As such the Required Packages in the installation instructions should be updated to include the following:
    db4.i686
    db4-devel.i686
    db4.x86_64
    db4-devel.x86_64

So from the layout above, I also want to give Free Space to */OVS*.
This excerpt talks about Logical Volume Creation during Oracle VM installation.

    Hi,
All databases created by the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) include the SYS, SYSTEM, SYSMAN, and DBSNMP database accounts. In addition, Oracle provides several other administrative accounts. Before using these other accounts, you must unlock them and reset their passwords.

  • S9 EPM Architect Process Manager fails to start.

    Hi All,
I just tried doing Hyperion System9 installation and am encountering a problem.
The Problem is, Installations are all done and the Configuration also seems to be
fine as i get to know from seeing the Configuration utility window, but once i am done with
configuring the Performance Management Architect, i tried starting the
Hyperion S9 EPM Architect Process Manager and it was not starting, even i tried increasing the
timeout setting for the startup of the dimension Server in the BPMA_Server_Config.xml file.Still
         it failed in starting..
Other than all the steps mentioned in the doc,Few steps i skipped during the Planning Installation was,
1.I didnt check the Activate instance option while creating the Planning Instance
2.I didnt Increase the Heap Size of App Server.
So could someone please suggest on what is creating the Problem during the startup.

    Hi,
For more detailed information on why it is not starting have a look in windows event log. In windows go to administrative tools > event viewer > application
Double click HyS9BPMA_ProcessManager and there should be a more detailed description in the window.
e.g. Service cannot be started. Hyperion.DimensionServer.ProcessManager.Interface.ProcessManagerException: Process Manager could not start because database connectivity could not be established. --->
    Cheers

    David,
Thanks for your detailed response. I will try all that you suggested and let you know my observation at the end. To give a back ground of the application I am working on.
    Background
Try to replace home grown cache (very well optimized uses custom serialization using NIO bytebuffer etc.,) my mandate is to replace the legacy cache with coherence (I love coherence product (at least 3.4) from my previous job experience). Since all kind of optimization is done in legacy application I am converting NIO byteBuffer generated by legacy serialization to byteArray and converting ByteArray into POF. Also for various other reasons, I have to send entry processor to do even get and put data from the cluster.
    Raw Data Set Size
My data size is just 500MB (In Production). I put enough cache nodes so that raw data is just 50MB per node. (Since it is compute heavy with entry processor and the number of clients are going to be ~2500)
What was happening when I got the exception?
I was doing stress testing of the cache. Not sure if that put lot of garbage in some of the node hence may be the garbage collection pause triggered the re-distribution of partition set. Since the stress testing was on the way it might had cascading effect on all the nodes.
    Datagram Test result.
    Tx summary 4 peers:
    life: 96 MB/sec, 68774 packets/sec
    now: 100 MB/sec, 71378 packets/sec, packets/burst: 1029, bursts/second: 69.41594
Success rate ranges from 0.87 to 1.0
Is a success rate less than 0.98 a cause for concern?
Regarding Size (to keep the extend client always connected to the proxy)
I do size request every 5 sec. if there is not other request has gone to the cluster in the past 5 sec.
In one of the oracle presentation it was said that "If you have map listener's and no other request from a long period of time extend client has to do a periodic size request to make sure that connection to proxy is alive"
In this regard my question is "Can the same effect achieved by doing member listener on the extend client and on disconnection do the size request?"
    Proxy Size guide lines
In production number of extend clients are going to be ~2500 connected all the time.
Of which 2000 clients with few map listener + entry processor gets (Each of the clients will have distinct and disjoint set of data on which they work and listener)
And the remaining ~500 clients will do all kinds of request on the entire data set.
In this circumstance is there any recommendation for Number of extend-client : Number of extend-server : Number of threads ratio?
    Regards
    /Anand

  • Apple mobile device failed to start during installing itunes

I got an error message while trying to install iTunes says that apple mobile device failed to start. i ignored this message and continued the installation process but it gave me another error and iTunes didn't work. i uninstalled it many times and tried many of the solutions on the support communities but it didn't repair it and i still have the same problem and now I can't use iTunes at all from the time i tried to upgrade to latest version.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies. The notes below the box include tips on removing troublesome components.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
The "for older video cards" version may well work for you when the regular 64-bit installer does not.

  • Adaptive Processing Server failing to start

    Hello everyone,
I have a BOE 3.1 (no fix packs) install on Windows 2003 where the AdaptiveProcessingServer fails to start.  Install path: BOE 3.0 + BO SAP Integration 3.0 + BOE 3.0 Sp1 + BO SAP Integration 3.0 Sp1.
This install does not include the additional Crystal Reports installs mentioned in some other threads.
I've tried creating a new server in the CMC, cloning the existing one, etc.
    Any ideas are appreciated!
    Thanks!
    John

    Hi Seb,
Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I've done both, I will paste in some results below.  The event log errors are vague and the server trace is very complicated!
    Thanks!
