ORA-01722: Nombre non valide
Hi community,
so here's my problem: I tried to create a cube with pentaho workbench ( Business Intelligence tool) unfortunately the cube doesn't appear.
The error is :
Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01722: Nombre non valide ( unvalid number)

As a remark, the type of my measure in the DB is NUMBER(12,0) and in the cube is integer.
Please help me to find the prb and solve it :'(((

I would recommend posting your question in a Pentaho forum.

Another ORA-01722: invalid number Error
Hello All,
I have 2 Validations on 1 Item, Not Null and Not Exists, very standard.
select fk_session_name_id
from hrt_session
where fk_session_name_id = :p9_fk_session_name_id
and fk_class_id = :p9_fk_class_id;My Item needs to be a Select List that returns the ID of FK_SESSION_NAME_ID.
select distinct SESSION_NAME display_value, PK_SESSION_NAME_ID return_value
from HRT_SESSION_NAME
order by 1My Form Page throws the ORA-01722 in invalid number Error only when I make the Item a Select List. If Item is a
Text Field and ID value entered and Create is clicked the data is saved but not when its a Select List. I have read alot
of threads that talk about converting this Item to_number but I have not been successful in doing this. Once the Item is
a Select List the Not Exists validation works but the Not Null Validation populates the Error Message. Can anyone
assist me with this please? Thanks
My Data Type is INTEGER for FK_SESSION_NAME_ID and SESSION_NAME is VARCHAR2.
SESSION_NAME data....
SESSION 1
SESSION 2
PMAS 1
PMAS 2
BASIC WORD 2003.....
Edited by: Charles A on Jan 11, 2010 1:42 PMHey Jari,
The PK_SESSION_NAME_ID in the select statement is the value that is going to be returned. FK_SESSION_NAME_ID is the Foreign Key value that will get the value from the Primary Key PK_SESSION_NAME_ID.
Yes, I do have an account that you can log into, thanks for assistance Jari.
Once you log in Select link 'Hrt_Class' which will populate Page 2. Region 'Cascading LOVs has 4 Items. Class Meridiem, Class Name, Class End Date and Class Location. Select these values then click 'Search'. Once the values are populated click the red button at the bottom 'Add Session Info'. This will populate Page 9 which will allow you to test the Create button. You should not be able to add any Session Name that exists in the Report below and you should not be able to Create a Null FK_SESSION_NAME_ID. Let me know if this is clear, thanks again.
The PK_SESSION_ID cannot be Null so just start with values 60116 on up to avoid that error message. I do not have any sequences or triggers created since this is just a testing app.

ORA-01722: invalid number Error in lpad
I get an ORA-01722 error on the following update statement when field1 contains a non-numeric character. The field is defined as CHAR(4). 99.99% of the time field1 will contain spaces and/or numeric data.
set field1 = lpad(to_char(to_number(field1)),4,'0')
where (substr (field1, 1, 1) = ' ' or
substr (field1, 4, 1) = ' ')
If I remove the to_number portion of the lpad statement I still get the ORA-01722 error. (This baffles me, to be honest.)
If I remove both the to_char and the to_number so that I just have the lpad statement, the field is not being padded with zeros, as per the following code example.
set field1 = lpad(field1,4,'0')
where (substr (field1, 1, 1) = ' ' or
substr (field1, 4, 1) = ' ')
First, I don't understand why the stand-alone lpad statement will not pad field1 with zeros.
Second, since the stand-along lpad isn't padding the fields, what can I do to make the set statement work to avoid the ORA-01722 error when non-numeric characters are present?
Thank you.To take your points more or less in order.
The TRIM function came in 8 something. It works in my 8.1.7.4 instance, but I don't have anything earlier to test with. You can use LTRIM(RTRIM(field1)) (substitute where appropriate below) instead. That should work even on your 7.3.
When I said "all 4 characters", I really meant had no spaces in them e.g. 'A123' not 'A12 '. Doing LPAD(TRIM('A12 ')) would return '0A12' which is probably not what you would want.
My approach to the fields with alpha characters would really depend on how critical this field is to business operations, and whether you could automate a fix for it. You could identify them using something like:
FUNCTION isnumber(p_totest IN VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS
l_tmp NUMBER;
BEGIN
l_tmp := TO_NUMBER(TRIM(p_totest));
RETURN 1;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RETURN 0;
END;
SELECT * FROM t
WHERE IsNumber(field1) = 0what you do with that depends.
Avi's solution needs a minor re-work. The TO_CHAR function adds an extra space to the character representation of the number to hold a sign. You could use something more like:
UPDATE t
SET field1 = TO_CHAR(TO_NUMBER(field1),'FM0009')The FM format mask stops TO_CHAR from adding the extra character. As long as all the numbers are positive this would be fine. However, it will still throw 1722 on all spaces or an alpha character.
It is not that LPAD cannot handle all spaces, it is the TRIM that screws up all spaces. By trimming all spaces you get NULL, and NULL LPADed to any length is NULL. Because the column is defined as CHAR(4), all records, except explicit NULLs, will be right padded with spaces to that length, so in order to LPAD with zeroes, you need to trim off the extra spaces.
If I understand your basic requirement, you want to get field1 set to a four digit number, left padded with zeroes, or all zeroes if it is null or spaces. I would likely do this in a single step using the IsNumber function above. Something like:
UPDATE t
SET field1 = NVL(LPAD(TRIM(field1),4,'0'),'0000')
WHERE IsNumber(field1) = 1If getting '0A12' in field 1 is acceptable after the update, then you don't really need the IsNumber at all.

ORA-01722: invalid number - Error during implicit conversion (10g vls 11g)
I am facing oracle error for few SELECT queries in 11g which were working fine in 10g environment.
Oracle Version:
10g - 10.2.0.5.0
11g - 11.2.0.3.0
We are storing numeric values under CHAR or VARCHAR2 column in few tables. This is known design issue & it can't be changed for now.
I know this will work fine until all the data is numeric in those columns for respective table. Because by some reason, if any row got character value for that column then implicit string to number conversion will fail and this error can occur. But I have verified that there is no data issue.
But I can see difference in the execution plan! But not able to recognize the reason issue.
Any other pointers on why the queries are failing in 11g would be of great help..
Example SQL:
Note that table structure and data is same in both the environments.

SELECT * FROM LC_LOCATIONS WHERE productid = '75';The problem doesn't appear to be related to the Oracle version, at least not directly. If your query plan does the string to number conversion before eliminating the rows that have non-numeric data, you'll get an error. If the query plan eliminates the rows that have non-numeric data before doing the conversion, the query will succeed. It is entirely possible that you'd get the "bad" plan in 10g or the "good" plan in 11g.
You can capture the query plans from your 10g database and move them over to the 11g database. Oracle has a nice white paper on upgrading from 10g to 11g that walks you through that process.
Of course, you really don't want to be dependent on the optimizer picking the "right" plan, you really want to fix the underlying data model issue.

'ORA-01722: Invalid number' error message in BeX
Hi Gurus,
We have a new report built on top of a DSO. When I run this report, I get the message 'ORA-01722: invalid number'. On furthur testing, I found that when I move two objects 'Date Changed' & 'Time Changed' [both are 'Z' objects we created] from the 'Rows' to 'Free Characteristics', the report runs as expected. So the issue seems that it is with these two objects. One of them is of type 'DATS' & the other of type 'TIMS'. These two are mapped to respective 'Date' & 'Time' fields in SAP R3.
SID's exists in the Master Data tables for both these objects. The data for both the fields contains the normal 'Date' & 'Time' values.Running the query using RSRT shows the same error message. The RSRV check on this report says that 'Query execution not possible as the variables contain invalid values'.
I have seen a couple of other posts in SDN with similar issues but none of them have a solution identified so far. Just wanted to check if anyone who has experienced this issue have been successfully able to resolve it?
Thanks
ArvindHi Ravi,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, the 'Date' & 'Time' objects have 0DATE & 0TIME as reference objects.
I couldn't find any invalid vallues for these date and time fields. If invalid values were present, wouldn't the DSO activation have failed?
Thanks
Arvind. -
ORA-01722 Invalid Number Error - report parameter
I have a report which runs successfully using the following simple select statement: -
select u.user_id, u.user_forename||' '||u.user_surname user_name,

fo.record_number = foe.record_number and

Where P_Start and P_End are parameters passed from a form. I want to add further user option selections for the report and have added another parameter (P_inClause) where the user can select one or more items to select from. The column selected is a number on the table. I then want to pass this as another parameter into the report listing a number of valid values using the IN statement. The updated select statement is: -

u.user_id = foe.user_id and
u.user_id IN :P_inClauseorder by u.user_surname
u.user_id is a number column in the table. The value of P_inClause is set as a character parameter in the report and has the value (45,5,13,26) - as an example.
When I try running the report interactively it comes up with the ORA-01722 : Invalid Number error and points to the P_inClause parameter. If I type in the value directly into the select statement it works fine.
Do you have any ideas as to how I can make this work?

sql server 2008 r2
RS2008 r2
I can execute the query in BIDS 2008 with out a problem and I can run on our RS2005 server without a problem
But when I deploy report and run on our RS2008 server I get the error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for dataset 'NIR'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
ORA-01843: not a valid month
QUERY:
select * from NIR_QUARTERLY where birth_date between :PARAM1 and :PARAM2
order by PT_CODECAUSE
The problem is caused by not using VALID dates values in the dataset.
- This data problem was masked in the original version as the Predicate(s) used can change between versions of Oracle
- Oracle does *not* guarantee the same explain plan or the specific order of predicates used between versions of Oracle
Reviewing the EXPLAIN PLAN for both versions revealed in this case:
1) The table was partitioned
2) The EXPLAIN PLANS were not the same due to how the partitions were accessed
3) If the same query was used against a non-partitioned table using the same data, the following error would always occur
ORA-01843: not a valid month
4) The problem string value was in this case found to include the string value of '0000-00-00'
The ORA-01843 occurred when using the TO_DATE function against '0000-00-00'
There is *no* Year= '0000' Month= '00' or day = '00' -- therefore the ORA-01843: not a valid month

The output result of compilation is "GETAGE Compiled", I think the 01722 error is not caused from an sql syntax error, but probably caused from an invalid or unsupported or 'strange' configuration on nationalization... the fact surprises me that the previous version did not give problems

ORA-01722: invalid number
Hi,[email protected]
we are working on Import tool, which takes a CSV file and inserts in Oracle
DB.I am using PLSQL UTL_File.Please look into the PLSQL file and clarify my

If the Last column is a Varchar field, we are able to insert Records

Clearly one or more records has a value in the last column that is non-numeric. Broadly speaking, a number consists of characters 0123456789, with optional minus sign and decimal point (scientific notation is also allowed). Just about anything else is not a number. 934-89 is not a number. 786.567.765 is not a number. A NULL should not throw ORA-1722 but spaces will.
So, check your data. You find it necessary to employ an intermediary table and cleanse the data there. Alternatively, yell at the people who produce the extract. Or change your schema definition. Whatever's right.

Interface not running: ORA-01722: invalid number
Hi,
I have migrated my ODI master&work repositories from my development-machine to my local laptop and now I get this error when executing one of my Interfaces:
ORA-01722 Invalid number (I translated this because I get this error in Dutch!!).
On my development-machine, I do not get this error, and IF I get errors, I get them in English (which I prefer).
So, my questions are:
1) how do I change my errors on my local machine from Dutch to English?
does that depend on the database? or on java? or on ....?
2) can I make changes in ODI to get this Interface running?
Thanks in advance!
Steffen
ps. I already tried
a) to set in 'odiparams.bat'
ODI_ADDITIONAL_JAVA_OPTIONS='-Duser.language=en -Duser.country=US"
but this didn't help...
and
b: set my Oracle database run in AMERICAN_AMERICA.
set my Locale Settings to English [US]
.. still no luck.. ;-((I think to change the language of the error message of oracle you got to change the value of the variable NLS_LANG
you can change it only for a session if you want to try
alter session set NLS_LANGUAGE='AMERICAN'
and you can verify your language with this script
SELECT USERENV ('language') FROM DUAL
then you can see if the problem come from here
And for your interface this message could come from a character which is not valid in Dutch.
execute this to see which numeric delimiter is allowed:
SELECT * from NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS where
PARAMETER='NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS'
which this I hope you to find your error -

However, the property for ATM_HOPS and beyond should be number, NOT charaters... according to the table structure on the server. Can anyone tell me why sql loader is recognize them as character instead of number? My source file also have these column in numbers (their actual property in Excel is "general") Please advise, and thank you all in advance.load data
