ORA-12500 and sort_area_size value
Hi,
I've hit an ORA-12500 'listener failed to start a dedicated server process' error after the increase of sort_area_size from 250M to 500M. DB server has plenty of RAM which would easily accomodate additinal memory for PGA. Has anyone experinced that before? Thanks.
There's (normally) no need to set SORT_AREA_SIZE, when a PGA is configured. From the parameter reference:
Oracle does not recommend using the SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter unless the instance is configured with the shared server option. Oracle recommends that you enable automatic sizing of SQL working areas by setting PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET instead. SORT_AREA_SIZE is retained for backward compatibility.

ORA-12500 problem, ¿can be?
We investigate all the facts that can provoke ORA-12500 and we are not allowed to connect to the database, the database is running, the service is running, the memory is OK , they are not too many connections because the database is just connected, and we are at this time allowed to connect to the database.
Then i have this question , maybe can the database be corrupt?
¿Someone have this problem after us?

Checkbox and ORA-20507: Invalid numeric value #:# for column
Hi All,
I'm facing problems Checkboxes in a form.
I created a form and report on a table. one of the fields on the form is a checkbox and when ever I want to create a new record or update with more than one value for the checkkbox I obtain the following error:
ORA-20507: Invalid numeric value #:# for column COLUMN_NAME Where by #:# is numbers
I think the error occurs at the processes of get_pk and process_row_of_......
how should I change the processes to accommodate the checkbox values.
Kind regards
MelHi Roel,

I believe if you want to set this to null, you need to use double quotes, (as in os_authent_prefix="")

Error Ora-12500 when using dblink
Hi all,
I have a database that I can connect directly with no problem, but there's error when I try to connect to that db from another db by using dblink
(Select * from someTab@link_name)
The error is Ora-12500
(Sure that tnsname.ora file is OK, I meant SID that using in dblink)
What can I do to deal with this prob?
Thank you!Mr_what wrote:
Thank you guys! Of course I've known what Ora-12500 means, google is always the first thing I do when have to deal with any prob. Then you should have run across the cause of the problem..?
The client (in this case, the PL/SQL code using the db-link) uses a TNS alias to connect to an Oracle Listener. Part of the TNS alias is specifying the database the client wants to connect to (e.g. using SID or SERVICE_NAME).
The Listener confirms that it services this SID or service (it needs to be registered with the Listener). It then "+hands off+" the connection to that database. It can do this either as a dedicated or shared server process.
In your case, your TNS connection does not request a shared server connection. So the Listener needs to provide a dedicated server to service your client connection. It does so by executing +$ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle+ - using the settings for that registered database (which includes the +$ORACLE_HOME+ dir). It passes command line parameters to this process (typically +(LOCAL=NO)+ ), and other data via the call (such as the socket handle this oracle executable needs to use to communicate with your client session).
This is the step that fails. The Listener fails to create this dedicated process. It uses a specific kernel call (differs from o/s to o/s) to create this dedicated server (a process on Linux/Unix, or thread on Windows). This call is usually what fails and results in the error you see on the client side.
There can be a number of reasons why this failed. The usual two suspects are:
- the kernel not allowing the Oracle o/s user to create more processes as it has reached it resource quota
- invalid +$ORACLE_HOME+ and the call fails to load the bin/oracle executable process
I would first eliminate these two as the cause of the problem. If it is not caused by these, then I would enable listener tracing and troubleshoot a connection that results in this error. There are various levels of diagnostics that can be enabled for tracing. At the lowest level one can trace the actual calls made by the listener, including the parameters values passed. -

Scheduled Web Intelligence report fails with ORA-01013 and WIS 10901
Hi,
the environment I'm working in is BOXI R2 SP4 on a Solaris 10 server using WebLogic running against Oracle 9i database.
I have a report written by one of the users. In SQL Viewer the SQL detailed is two joined Select statements. Each time this report is either scheduled or refreshed is fails with an ORA-01012 and WIS 10901 error.
I am of the understanding that this failure relates to the fact that the 'Limit Execution Time To;' value is being exceeded.
I also understand that this value is infact divided by the number of Select statements present, and that each Select statment is them allocated an equal portion of this value.
If any of this is incorrect please correct me.
I therefore have two questions
1. As such would I be correct in assuming that in my scenario where 2 Select statments are present and where the execution limit is set to 30 minutes, that each Select has 15 minutes to complete, and that if either fails the ORA-01012 and WIS 10901 error is generated.
2. Also would this error message get generated as soon as the first failure occurred, or would BO initiate a cancellation of the SQL by Oracle, ORA-01012, only when the final request has either succeeded or failed. The queries are not executed in parallel but in serial. So the total execution time configured will be for all the Select statements in the report combined.
As for your second question, since the execution is not parallel hence BO will not initiate any error message until the total execution time exceeds the defined limit. This could be during the execution of first select statement or the second.
Try executing the queries directly in database one by one and see how much time they are taking.

ORA-12500 error while refreshing webi report
Hi All,
The problem looks simple, but i am struck with this. I am trying to refresh a webi report in BO XI R3.1, it throws the error "DBD: ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process". It looks like there is no issue with the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora.whar could be the other cause for this issue ? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thanks
RajHi,
You need to fix up the issue on the Oracle D/B side first prior to testing on WebI.
Try this link, it explains the error encountered in more details.
http://ora-12500.ora-code.com/
Simply put, can you use client tool (e.g. TOAD) to log into Oracle D/B using the same machine?
Fix up the connection then WebI will work.

Error while exporting : ORA-24801: illegal parameter value in OCI lob funct
hello,
I am doing an export on a 10.2.0.4 , solaris machine.
The table i am doing an export has a blob & clob.
During the export I get the error :
EXP-00056: ORACLE error 24801 encountered
ORA-24801: illegal parameter value in OCI lob function
In metalink it was given : Check every parameter in the OCI Lob function call to make sure they
are correct. Offsets should be greater than or equal to one.
Where should I check for that OCI Lob function. Or is there any other alternative to do the export.
Thanks for any help.I have increased the space on the mount I was doing the export and that solved the problem.

ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL
Hi All,
I am using OWB 10gR2 and DB 10gR2. I am getting the following error while executing the mapping,
ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL.
I have used NVL function for the measure columns, but the problem is not solved.
Can anybody please tell me solution,
Thanks in advance,
SivaHi Siva
It may be that you've taken care of null value in just one place and now, the error is coming
from somewhere further down the line.

return l_dr;
--return ltrim(to_char(l_dr_disp,'999G999G999G999G990D00','nls_numeric_characters=,.'));
end;
both formula column return types are character. Please help me ASAP.
Thanks,
sriharsha.Hi,
First of all: when you should use concatenation operator (||) instead of plus sign when working with strings. So, instead of
:CF_CREDIT:= :D_CARRY_F_CR+:D_HD_SUM_REP_CR; you should use
:CF_CREDIT:= :D_CARRY_F_CR||:D_HD_SUM_REP_CR; If :D_CARRY_F_CR and :D_HD_SUM_REP_CR are both numbers then consider to use to_char function before you assign value to :CF_CREDIT.
I wonder, why your CF's returns varchar's if they operates on numbers?

Error ORA-06502, numeric or value error character to number conversion
I have been trying to create an email including data from a table as part of the body. Whenever I try to send it, I get an error ORA-06502, numeric or value error, character to number conversion. JDBC receiver error - ORA-00913: too many values
Hi all,
Facing a strange issue with proxy-jdbc issue.
Message fails with error - ORA-00913: too many values
Handling the missing fields from the source with - Empty String in the comm. Channel
Empty string handling works fine - whenever there is no value coming form souce, null is inserted into the field value on the DB.
Trying to insert the same data manually, it works fine. But gives this error END2END.
When testing END2END, if the field values are made couple of chars less in length, that works fine....fails with the actual data.....seems to be the issue with the field lenghts on the DB.
Increased all the lengths by 10 chars..still does not work.
Except the key fields of the DB table, all others are nullable.
Is there anything else, I am missing...
Note: Generally, ORA-00913: too many values comes when the number of fields and the number of values donot match in an INSERT/UPDATE statement.
regHi
When testing END2END, if the field values are made couple of chars less in length, that works fine....fails with the actual data.....seems to be the issue with the field lenghts on the DB.
Increased all the lengths by 10 chars..still does not work
Well the error you mention generally occurs when the insert statement has more fields mention than in the table .ie you are mentioning extra field .aur this error is due to the field lenght of any of the filed you had to check in the oracle itself by using the command DESCRIBE there you ll be able to see the field lenght of each and every field .
hope your problem got resolved :
