ORA-24334 error after loadSampleData
Hi Stephen,
There is a known issue with reading/writing large CLOBs and double-byte
characters. For the Oracle jDriver in WLS 6.1 sp1 you will need to request two
patches from WLS support ( http://www.bea.com/support/index.jsp ). Request the
patches for CR046149 and CR060917.
Also, verify that your Enterprise Applications use "Use CLOBs for Read" and
"Use CLOBs for Write" = true (this is the out-of-the-box setting for the example
apps). You set these properties in the console (http://<server>:port/console).
For the portal application, you would navigate to Deployments --> Applications
--> portal --> Service Configuration --> JDBC Helper Service.
When the true settings are used the JdbcHelper will read CLOBs using
ResultSet.getClob() and Clob.getCharacterStream(). The JdbcHelper will write
character data to a CLOB field in the database using a
PreparedStatement.setCharacterStream() call for the CLOB field (for the true
setting). If the settings are false then reads are done by using
ResultSet.getString() and writes are done with PreparedStatement.setString().
If the patches do not solve your problem, please re-post.
FYI, the WLCS team is working on a delegate model for the JdbcHelper that
will allow Portal 4.0 to take advantages of database-specific extensions to the
JDBC 2.0 spec for writing CLOBs. The JDBC 2.0 spec does not handle writing data
to CLOBs. Notice that java.sql.Clob has only methods for reading CLOBs. These
extensions to the specification will allow us to stream data directly to the
CLOB instead of inserting character data into the CLOB field in the database.
Watch the release notes for Portal 4.0 at
http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs40/relnotes/index.htm for updates.

Hi all,
Just download & install Portal 4.0.... take longgggg time to startup :(.
Anyway, after I get Portal 4.0 up and running, I went thought the
configuration for Oracle, after I ran loadSampleData.bat and restart the
server, I got the following error:

ORA-00372 error after DB backup
Hello,
After performing a backup on tape using Amanda, one of the tablespaces is generating an ORA-00372 error. The DB is 10g1, on Solaris' SunOS 5.10.
ORA-01110: data file 6: '[path]/filename.dbf'
ORA-00372: file 6 cannot be modified at this time
ORA-01110: data file 6: '[path]/filename.dbf'
While trying to log in sqlplus as a regular user, I get the ORA-01033 message:
ERROR:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
I can log in as sysdba, to find out that the DB is only mounted, when I issue an 'alter database open;' I get the 00372 error above.
The RMAN backup sequence was the following:
run {
allocate channel ch1 type disk;
backup
incremental
level=0
database;
release channel ch1;
After the backup, the state of the DB was not checked, but some application process that used it stopped responding, so after trying to restart the process, a reboot command was issued from a shell - I don't know if this has anything to do with the actual state of the DB.
- What can I do to get the DB to the open state ('alter tablespace ... online' doesn't work with the DB in mounted state)?
- What possibly generated this particular situation?
Thank you all for any ideas,
AdrianI tried to retrieve the status of the tablespaces with the following query
select TABLESPACE_NAME, STATUS, CONTENTS
from dba_tablespaces
order by TABLESPACE_NAME
but I cannot run it, as the DB is only mounted - I get the error:
ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
Is there another way to find out? And I don't know how to find the status of the file... -
Buffer to small ORA-22835 error after migration from 9i to 10g
Hello Oracle-Experts,
I had to calculate hash-values for a corresponding clob-field which worked with oracle 9i (9.0.2.1)

MatthiasYou have hit a bug, 3984527 - CLOB LARGER THAN 4000 INSERTED INTO VARCHAR2(4000) COLUMN IS.
You may want to check this metalink note: Note:388512.1 for further explanation and workarouds.
From the error message manual, Verbatim:
ORA-22835: Buffer too small for CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW conversion (actual: string, maximum: string)
Cause: An attempt was made to convert CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW, where the LOB size was bigger than the buffer limit for CHAR and RAW types. Note that widths are reported in characters if character length semantics are in effect for the column, otherwise widths are reported in bytes.
Action: Do one of the following:
1. Make the LOB smaller before performing the conversion, for example, by using SUBSTR on CLOB
2. Use DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR to convert CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW.

ORA-12154 Error After Install of Enterprise Manager
I have a new new laptop with minimal software installed. Everything was fine and I was able to connect to 4 different Oracle 9i databases.
This morning I installed Oracle Enterprise Manager (10g) and now I get the dreaded ORA-12154 error.
I now find a copy of TNSNAMES.ORA in three places. I have copied the correct version to the two new 10G locations and I have verified that all three copies of TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA are correct and identical.
Do anybody have any idea what else could be wrong?I am certain the TNSNAMES.ORA file is fine as it is "pushed" from a central IT department. I have compared it to the one on a second computer (which has only 9i installed) in my office and they are identical.
I examined the Oracle 9i directories and there was no LISTENER.ORA anywhere. On the 9i only computer the command - C:\>dir listener.ora /s /p executed in a DOS window returned no files.
Everything was working fine until I installed Enterprise Manager 10g (10.2.0.2.1).
I have TOAD installed and it connects to both of the 9i development and production databases, so I know the TNSNAMES.ORA is okay.
It woudl seem that there is a conflict between 10g and 9i Developer/2000. -

Please suggest.Umesh,
Since it is case of Ora 600, for which only last solution is oracle support, but i would like to mention that your are getting ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4193].... So, this 4193 is cause to read following links too:
http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/47048/2/ and. see Metalink note 153788.1 and 39282.1.

ORA-12545 error after changing the host name as IP address in Tnsnames.ora
HI,
I tried to connect PHP and oracle in Red Hat linux. I got error ORA-12545 after changing the host name as IPAddress in Tnsnames.ora file. In sqlnet.ora file also i have entry for tnsnames in Directory_Path. I struggled so much but i couldnt solve that. Please give me ur valuable suggestions....12545, 00000, "Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
// *Cause: The address specified is not valid, or the program being
// connected to does not exist.
// *Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the
// most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the
// executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.)
// If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the
// host name to a numeric IP address and try again.
Seems you specified wrong IP address. -
ORA-27125 error after installing 9.2.0.7 patch on FC2
Hi!
After installing 9.2.0.7 patch over 9.2.0.5 database (some time ago patched from 9.2.0.4) Oracle instance is not starting anymore. Error is:
ORA-27125 - unable to create shared memory segment.
I have Fedora Core 2 Linux.
Pls help!Problem solved by folowing this thread (http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/37530/0/) and particulary doing this:
From oracle user:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
mv oracle oracle.bin
cat >oracle <<"EOF"
#!/bin/bash
export DISABLE_HUGETLBFS=1
exec $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.bin $@

ORA-012203 error ----after the installation of forms 10g
I have forms6i in C: and installed forms 10g in other drive....but now when i am trying to connnect forms6i application i get this error ORA-012203 Unable to connect to destination
i have even seen this thread but it did not help much
Re: Forms 6i - ora-012203 tns:unable to connect to the destinationOnce you locate all of your TNSNAMES.ora files, identify one as your main file. Make sure all of your connections are located in this file and are correct.
Then go to every other TNSNAMES.ora file and replace everything in the file with ifile=<directory_path/filename>
For instance, mine is:
ifile=C:\DevSuiteHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
Now you only have to maintain one file for your multiple tools
Edited by: ChrisBaker on Jan 4, 2010 5:59 AM
I used this to check whether this solution works or not......after i tried the abv sol ... i dont ger ora -012203 but i get ora 012154 -TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified... i have checked my tnsnames.ora n everything is right in it -
ORA-12560 error after installing ODT
I use Oracle XE, VS 2008 and just installed ODT 11.1.0.6.20.
When I try to connect to the database (using System.Data.OracleClient ADO.NET Provider) I get an ORA-12560 exception. It worked fine before installing ODT.
Same in trying to connect in Server Explorer: in Add Connection dialog I get the same exception.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks

As this is your PRODUCTION system THEN_ The best help to offer in case of ORA-600, and ORA-7445 is to open SR with metalink. Submit with the SR the following
1- Alert log
2- Trace files (in ur case e:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\orcl\udump\orcl_ora_6012.trc: and e:\oracle\product\10.2.0\em_2\rdbms\trace\orcl_ora_4756.trc:)
3- Describe what was happening when you had these errors.
Try to avoid free help when you have ORA-600 and ORA-07445. This errors could be becuase of BUGS. Oracle Support will know this from the call stack in the trace file.
Then Do your best to patch 10.2.0.4 and the latest CPU patch.
Good Luck -
Getting an ORA-24333 error while parsing a non SELECT statement ...
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I've search through the entire forum to see if my problem was already solved, but at first sight it doesn't ?
So I hope that someone can help me one this : I'm facing a strange problem with the OCI 8i. I've encapsulated any OCI call into a set of C++ classes. Everything works fine apart for one point : whenever I try to parse a NON "select" statement, I get the ORA-24333 error.
Basically, the code follow the current schema (only "important" states are written here) :
-> Opening an Oracle Session
-> Receving de statement.
-> Analyse it with a call to OCIStmtPrepare() with OCI_NTV_SYNTAX set.
-> Calling OCIBindByName() to associate each variable with a data.
-> Calling OCIStmtExecute() with OCI_DESCRIBE_ONLY set in order to retrieve the current list of INPUT/OUTPUT columns.
And this is where the problem arise.
With a statement like : "SELECT MyPackage.MyFunction(:v1) FROM DUAL"
Everthing works fine. I can bind the INPUT/OUTPUT ":v1" variable.
But with a statement like : "BEGIN MYFUNTION(:v1); END;"
I get the ORA-24333 error after the call to OCIStmtExecute().
I get this error only when I set OCI_DESCRIBE_ONLY. If I call OCIStmtExecute() with OCI_DEFAULT, the OCI execute the statement. This is fine but it's not what I want. I cannot change the statement received (by design), so they should be proceeded as received.
What I'm looking for is a way to successfully perform the OCIStmtExecute() with OCI_DESCRIBE_ONLY set in order to get the list of variables columns related to the current statement.
Any help would be greatly apprecitated here. Thanks !
Here are my current configurations.
-> Windows 2000 SP5 OCI 8i / VC++ 6.0
-> Macintosh OS X 10.3.4 / Code Warrior 8.3
(The code produce exactly the same results/troubles on both plateforms.)
