ORA-01034: ORACLE not available error while creating ASM or database
Hi all,
I am using oracle database 10gR2 on windows 2000 pro system.
I have Installed oracle software and there was no issue with that but now I am facing ORA-01034: ORACLE not available error while trying to create asm instance or even while creating database through dbca.
I have tried creating the asm instance manually and it was succeeded. Also database creation was successful through manual steps.
Any idea guys?? How to resolve this issue??Hi FK,
On Windows, it can sometimes mean that the services are not running. I have a check here:
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_check_verify_windows_services.htm
Have you tried using oradim?
http://www.dba-oracle.com/tips_oradim_utility.htm
The oradim utility provides more than just the ability to start and stop Windows databases. Windows oradim can create and edit databases. It also allows DBAs to configure script-based installation mechanisms.
The oradim utility is used on the Windows platform to perform these tasks.
C:\oracle9i\bin\oradim -startup -sid ORCL92 –usrpwd manager
-starttype SRVC,INST -pfile C:\oracle9i\admin\ORCL92\pfile\init.ora
• startup – Indicates that the specified instance should be started.
• sid – The SID of the database to start.
• usrpwd – The password for the database user.
• starttype – Specifies whether to start the instance, the service, or both
Hope this helps. . .

ORA-24344: success with compilation error While creating workspace
Hi,
We had an instance with db 9.2.0.5 and HTML DB 1.56.
First we upgraded database to to 10.1.0.4.Then we upgraded HTML DB to 1.6.1(Upgraded html db 1.5 to 1.6, Then applied patch 1.6.1 patch - 4173133)
Logged to the HTML DB as an administrator for creating application developer's workspace. I have got the error "ORA-24344: success with compilation error" while creating the workspace.
We are able to create the workspace successfully on HTML DB 1.5.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks, VenkannaVenkanna - Do you think the workspace creation was at least partly successful? I mean, can you login to it, can you see anything about it in the admin app, etc.? It would be useful to get a list of invalid objects in the new workspace's schema. If there are none, then get a list of invalid objects in FLOWS_010600.

ORA-00902: invalid datatype comile error while using CAST function
Hi everyone,
I'm getting ORA-00902: invalid datatype compilation error while using CAST function.
open ref_cursor_list for select empName from TABLE(CAST(part_t AS partnumberlist));
The partnumberlist and ref_cursor_list is declared in the Package spec as given below.
TYPE ref_cursor_list IS REF CURSOR;
TYPE partnumberlist IS TABLE OF emp.empName%TYPE;
The error points the partnumberlist as invalid datatype in TOAD because of this i'm unable to compile the package.
Any suggestion
Thanks and regards

ORA-29283: invalid file operationHello,
ORA-39070: Unable to open the log file.It seems there's something wrong with the log file.
How is defined the Directory TEST ?
Do you use ASM ?
If yes, the log file must be written to a disk file, and not written into the Oracle ASM storage.
You'll find more informations about the LOGFILE parameter below:

ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error while linking tables in Access
One of my app dev is encountering an interesting error message while linking Oracle tables from Access. I am not able to able to reproduce this in my desktop or anywhere else. Details enclosed. Can you guys point me to a solution? Thanks in advance!
ODBC: Oracle Client version 10.2.0.1
Desktop : Win XP ; Access 2003
=>Able to login to the Oracle database sucessfully using sqlplus.
=>Able to create an ODBC datasource to Oracle database.("Test Connection" works fine)
=>But encountering the TNS protocol adpater error while linking the table(Access->File->Get External Data-> Link tables).
=>Not able to link any table in any schema in any Oracle database. Hence this is not a data centric issue.
What did I do?
=> Uninstalled Oracle 8 client and installed Oracle 10 client. No luck. Encountering the same error.
=> Turned on the ODBC trace and reproduced the error. The log is enclosed:

Edited by: user5598619 on Feb 10, 2009 5:37 PMThanks a lot for your quick reply.
I've read all the posts mentioned (quite a few more) but I couldn't find any suggested solution to the "non-oracle10g"-problem other than using the global db name instead of the sid - which didn't help in our case:
However, in a last desperate attempt to solve the problem on my own before launching another cry-for-help-post I did try running the configuration assistant using the correct password for the SYS user 8-} and - strange but true - it did work :-)
Needless to say: I used the global db name of course, so I can't say what would have happened without it, but I trust your hint was a legitimate one.
Anyway - I gues that error Message concerning a "non-oracle10g database" was slightly misleading in this case.... grrrr.

ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error while running Oracle Form 10g over IE
Hi,
I am getting the following error message while running my form over Internet Explorer. What could be the error and the solution.
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I am using the same user id/password that i used to create the database.
Plz help.
thanks,
RVunless you defined the TWO_TASK in your environment, you might need to provide it during the login. The typical Forms login screen has 3 fields, username/password and TWO_TASK , which is the alias used for the database server in the tnsnames.ora file on your end. If you are using iAS forms, then a proper RAD (Resource Access Descriptor) needs to be created by the DBA or whoever manages the iAS server. This is only if SSO is utilized, if not, then you need to provide TWO_TASK as well.
Hope this proves useful

ORA-12560 TNS: Protocol adapter error while installing database
Hello,
I'm having troubles while installing my oracle database 10g. My server is SUN OS 5.10
When I am in the copying datafiles step, a pop up message shows up [ORA-12560 TNS: Protocol adapter error]
Could you please help me?I am creating the database the database.
I am relatively new in Oracle but I have created a DB before and the ORACLE_SID was set after the database was created.
The steps I execute for are:
1. Install the Oracle engine (without create the DB)
2. Install the Patch
3. Create the database (dbca)
After the database is created, appears a popup (Database configuration assistance warning) where it says to set the oracle_sid among others steps.
Is it mandatory to set the ORACLE_SID before? some other configuration that I could be missing?
Thank you -

I am trying to configure ORACLE Workflow. I have given sys password and other parameters in the given format in Workflow Configuration Assistant. My DB Server is in my local network and I connect to it using SID in SQL Plus. But I got the following error while WorlflowCA tries to execute relevant script.
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
SP2-0640: Not connected
WorkflowCA: Non-Oracle10g database detected
If anybody is having any clues, please help me.
Thanks in advance
Ajish M.Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
Anyway - I gues that error Message concerning a "non-oracle10g database" was slightly misleading in this case.... grrrr.

Could you please help me to resolve this issue.Process chains might fail if the data source is not in sync between the source and the BW system. In such a case, go to the 'Source Systems' in transaction RSA1, find the datasource, right click and select 'Replicate Datasources'. Once this is done, the transfer structure needs to be activated as well. To do this in production, run the report RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL with the source system name and the infosource name. This will activate the transfer structure.

I think there is a part of the stored procedure you did not displayed in your post. I think your issue is probably due to a parsed value from java. For example when calling a procedure from java and the data type from java is different than expected by the procedure the ORA-01403 could be encountered. Can you please show the exact construction of the call of the procedure from within java and also how the procedure possible is provided with an input parameter.

Can any body help me in that?
Thank You,
AnupFirst of all I don't see a procedure header.
Secondly I see you commit inside your procedure. This is a bug.
Thirdly I see you also commit inside a loop. This is also a bug, and needs to be removed asap.
The error indicates a statement doesn't parse. As you don't post the error stack, nor a table definition no one can reproduce the problem.
You need to isolate the statements, one by one, and run them through sql*plus to see what happens.
