  • Suggestion regarding Oracle import & export utility

    hi
I am navneet,I want to give some suggestion on Oracle import & export utility to Oracle Corporation. can u tell me where to send these suggestions
    regards

It would seem to me that if they are enhancement requests, then the right way would be to file an enhancement request. If they are bugs, then file SRs so bugs can be entered.

  • Importing Oracle 10g export file to Oracle 9i

We have an export file from a 10g database and wanting to import them to 9i database. Is this possible?

Assuming that they have both 10g and 9i database, there is no reasom why they can't use the 9i export and import utilities to load the data.
If the dump file came from a 3rd party's database to whcih they don't have access, then obviously they won't be able to load the file into a 9i database.

A BIG thank you to both of you, Managed to import succesfully. appreciate your help.
Just for others who would be using this forum.
    Steps involved
    1. connect with Oracle 10g Export utility to the source db.
    2. export the db from source to target server
    3. create DDL & schema of the source db.... ( i used toad dba )
    4. run the DDL & schema of the target db (oracle 10g) .. ( i used toad dba )
    5. import the dump to target server.
    6. done...

  • Importing a few Oracle 10g schemas into oracle 11g database

    Hi,
I have the task to import a few schemas that are on oracle 10g database (10.2.0.4) into oracle 11gR2 database (11.2.0.2). Now I have only oracle 10g export and import utility (the 11g server is in not where I am given the import rights).
Can I do the export of the 10g schemas using the 10g export utility and then import into 11g database using the 10g import utility? I ran a test to do that and found it works but would also like to have expert opinion on it.
Also another question is: if the source schema is 11g - suppose- in that case can the 10g export/import utility still work? I mean export the schema from say db1 (which is 11g) using 10g export utility and import them into 11g database db2 (which is again 11g) using 10g import? I am asking because I don't have access to 11g server and trying to find what I can do with the 10g utilities.
    Thanks,

set up a database link to the 10gR2 version database in the 11gR2 database.
Now using the 11gR2 client impdp utility use
    impdp network_link=<link to 10gR2 database>
    Done.
Your 'objection' you don't have access to 11gR2 doesn't count as you can install a 11gR2 client.
Also generally speaking you should not use a lower version imp to imp to a higher version database
Also exp and imp are deprecated in 10g and higher.

  • What does Consistent=Y means in the export utility

    Hi,
I have been trying to understand consistent=y means through so many books however didnt get my fundamentals clear on that part.
can someone let me know what does this would do??( in brief)
I would also like to know what would happen if consistent is set to N?
also what oracle would do if the export is in progress and some update is going on?
    Thanks
    NK

CONSISTENT was used to get data consistency during the export time. As it explain as well in the doc of export utility.
That say, it's for old export utility, and it is no more used with the new 10g export utility, expdp. By reading the 10g expdp doc, you should learn to use FLASHBACK_SCN or FLASHBACK_TIME instead.
    Nicolas.

No, you must use the imp utility from target database which is 10g.

  • How to export data within tables in Oracle 10g

Since I'm using Oracle 10g, thus I wanted to know that do I have the option for exporting data from one table to another or exporting the whole table to some another databases like SQL Server or any other database.

    There are several options, each has different advantages and disadvantages. When both source and target are Oracle;
    1. you can use database links across databases -
    http://psoug.org/reference/db_link.html
    2. you can unload to external tables after 10g and load from external table -
    http://tonguc.wordpress.com/2007/08/09/unload-data-with-external-tables-and-data-pump/
    3. you can use data pump(expdp/impdp) after 10g -
    http://psoug.org/reference/datapump.html
    http://psoug.org/reference/dbms_datapump.html
    4. you can use traditional export(exp) and import(imp) -
    http://psoug.org/reference/export.html
    http://psoug.org/reference/import.html
    5. you can unload to text with an unloader and use sql*loader to load -
    http://tonguc.wordpress.com/2007/09/02/announcement-of-a-new-product-ubsql-from-ubtools/
    http://asktom.oracle.com/tkyte/flat/
    http://psoug.org/reference/sqlloader.html
    for some options you may get the meta information(all table related DDLs) with supplied package DBMS_METADATA;
    http://psoug.org/reference/dbms_metadata.html
When source is Oracle 10g and target is non-Oracle you may unload to text from Oracle and use the related text loader utility supplied with the other vendor.
    Also Heterogeneous Connectivity is another option between Oracle and non-Oracle systems;

  • Guide me for exporting and importing data from oracle 10g to oracle 9i

I have been trying export and import options in oracle but m not very clear about the procedure..
Also when i am logging in as Scott/tiger i am facing an error
ORA 1542 - tablespace 'USER' is offline and cannot allocate space in it.how to resolve it

    Hello,
    I see two questions.
ORA 1542 - tablespace 'USER' is offline and cannot allocate space in it.how to resolve it About the error ORA-01542 you have to bring the Tablespace USERS online:
    http://www.error-code.org.uk/view.asp?e=ORACLE-ORA-01542
If you cannot bring it online you may have to Recover it first.
I have been trying export and import options in oracle but m not very clear about the procedure..About the Export in 10g and Import in 9i (9.2 or 9.0.1 ?), you have to export with the Export utility of the Target Database (the lowest Database version here: 9.0.1 or 9.2) then, you have to Import to the Target Database using its Import utility (in 9.0.1 or 9.2).
The following Note of MOS may guide you:
Compatibility Matrix for Export And Import Between Different Oracle Versions [Video] [ID 132904.1]
NB: You cannot use here the DATAPUMP.
    Hope this help.

  • Is any way to install only Export utility without installing oracle

how in can install only Export utility in windows server or in windows xp
and if not is it possible to use Export utility in oracle 10g to export data from oracle 9i

The general rule of thumb is
    1. To export data from upper version to lower version, you need to export/import using that lower versions of exp and imp utility.
    2. To export data from lower version to upper version, you need to export/import using that upper versions of exp and imp utility.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/exp_imp.htm#sthref2852
I think it may be possible to install database utilities w/o installing full S/W. Please note that I have not tried this approach
    thanks

  • Can I use 10g datapump utility expdp to export an 8i database?

    Hi,
Can I use 10g datapump utility "expdp" to export an 8i database objects? The reason I'm asking this is because I would like to use 10g impdp utility to import the dumps to 10g.
    Thanks in advance,
    Raj

No, you can't use 10g datapump utility "expdp" to export an 8i database objects.
The legal values for the VERSION parameter are as follows:
COMPATIBLE - This is the default value. The version of the metadata corresponds to the database compatibility level. Database compatibility must be set to 9.2 or higher.
LATEST - The version of the metadata corresponds to the database version.
version_string - A specific database version (for example, 10.0.0). In Oracle Database 10g, this value cannot be lower than 9.2.
Database objects or attributes that are incompatible with the specified version will not be exported. For example, tables containing new datatypes that are not supported in the specified version will not be exported.

  • Steps to export and import oracle 10g databse from AIX to AIX and LINUX

    Hi,
I need the steps to export the oracle 10g database from AIX server to AIX server and LINUX server.
Please give me all the steps as this is my first exort an import activity.
    thanks,

For 10g there exist two ways to do so.
    1) Regular exp/imp.
    2) Data pump expdp/impdp.
As this is your first export and import activity, relevant concept understanding is mandatory for you.
    Documentation Link
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/toc.htm
Read the chapters 1,2,3 (Data pump expdp/impdp) and 19 (regular exp/imp). Good luck.

  • How to export oracle 10g data into parts (in excel or csv or txt)

is there any methods to export the data from oracle 10g in the form of excel or csc or txt. i already downloaded the sql developer tool but it only exports the data of upto one lakh rows ,but i have two tables of more than 3 lakh and 10 lakh rows respectively.for this i used where command to break the file through sql developer but that didnt work
plz help me out if any thing possible
i need to again import this data into microsoft sql if there is any direct method plz let me know

I wrote my own pl/sql tool to make csv upload/download tool, but the learning process is a bit painful and long, especially for beginner like me (end up using dynamic sql package because we pass in table name as parameter).
For your purpose, maybe the best way is to download a plug-in for Excel that can connect to your Oracle DB. There are many such products so you need to google around. For me, no need right now.
Another option is to use a commercial tool like Toad, or other products from same company.
