Oracle 10g FRM-41051 on a non-database text item with a LOV

Hi all,
I'm struggling with a problem I'm convinced must have a really simple solution, but for the life of me I can't figure it out!
I have a data block called query. It is a non-DB block with a number of items, with either LOVs or drop down lists. It is used to choose values, which are them programatically 'translated' into values in two other database data blocks (which are populated in the WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger of a button in the non-DB block).
This is necessary as I have a slightly complex query which takes values from many different tables and displays bits of information from all the different tables.
My problem is that, on my text item (which has a LOV attached to it with Automatic Display set to Yes); when I click on it, I expect the LOV to show and I am able to choose a value from it. Instead I get the error 'FRM-41051 You cannot create records here' and the LOV does not display.
I don't understand this. Everything on the block is a non-DB item, including the block itself, and I don't want to 'create' any records, all I want to do is choose values into my text items which I can then use in a DB query (written in my trigger).
What am I doing wrong?
Abigail

Probably this other item or block has got property insert allowed to FALSE.
I have suggested you to use a push button in order to check that everything in the LOV is OK.
Lov can also return value to item in another block; probably in your case there is something that fires the error.
Normally when I develop my form I disable on-error and on-message trigger in order to follow every step at runtime...
I'm happy that you have resolved your problem :D

  • Oracle 10g Personal edition as a Client Database

    Hi, Our enterprise application runs as in both Online and offline mode. For offline mode it uses Microsoft accesss as Data Store. Now we want to use Oracle 10g Personal Edition as Our client database, so that we can use stored procedure and have code base for both server and client. Oracle XE can not be used because Oracle XE is not supported by Oracle.
    Please suggest what is the best way to deploy Oracle PE to get smallest footprint and best performance. It is alright to use PE as client DB or it is too much for offline application.
    Any suggested customizations or Alternatives. We have rules out Oracle Database lite because it doesn't support Pl/ SQL SP. Thanks.

    Note that Personal Edition is actually designed for Developers. It includes all options to the Enterprise Edition (except RAC) but is limited by license agreement to being used by one named person. You can not legally provide data from Personal Edition through direct connection electronically (eg: a web or app server) to several people. You also can not say "John is using it now, and when he is off, Fred will use it."
    The best and smallest footprinit is XE, but (as you say) you can not purchasse support from Oracle. Next is Standard Edition 1, with a Standard Edition software install (SE and SE1 are the same s/w) and a custom-created DB.

  • FRM-40209 Field must be of form . - for a non-based text item

    Hello,
    When I try querying using a VARCHAR2 non-based text item in a table-based block, setting dynamically in PRE-QUERY trigger the DEFAULT_WHERE property for its block, in case I use characters > or < (for bringing values greater or smaller than the one in the field, as in a standard Oracle query) error message is raised: 'FRM-40209 Field must be of form .' The issue has nothing to do with the error itself (usually related to erronated format mask of the field), and it is known as an Oracle Forms bug: I found it as bug 851153 - which appears on execute query if you enter in a non-base-table-item and the block has a pre-query trigger. The bug has been solved later in Oracle Developer Forms Builder 6i, or so I've been reading, problem is the application I'm working to requires Forms Builder 6.0.5.
    I am trying to find an workaround for this situation and these are the info I managed to discover myself on the topic:
    - if I fill the field with '>value instead of >value, query works fine, bringing only values greater than the specified value. (So far, this and inactivating the FRM-40209 error in ON-ERROR trigger seems like the best I can do)
    - if I only use > (without '), I cannot use an auxiliar variable/global in which to store the actual value written in the field, I also cannot print the value in a message, because trying to use the exact string, it is shown as null (even though when the error is raised, value is still shown on the screen in the text item).
    Maybe someone could help with an idea for an workaround in order to copy the content of the text field before it actually becomes null…
    Thank you in advance.

    I have already tried that... but for some reasons the field already appears as null, when I try to use it.

  • How to generate database text items at run time in oracle forms 6i?

    i have a text item with NUMBER OF ITEMS DISPLAYED=3. My requirement is, i need to generate text items at run time under each TEXT ITEM(3 text items will be there since number of items displayed is 3) and the values will be stored in the database based on the primary key combination. pls help me to solve this pblm

    Hi,
    You cannot generate items dynamically at runtime. The only thing you can do is show and hide item on time. Thay seems that they are generated at run time. Second thing you can do is that you can put items on stack canvas and set visible property of stack canvas to no and at run time set it to visible according to ur condition. Otherwise there is no way. If you find any other way, plz do inform here also.

  • Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1.0 - Unable to log with any user

    Hi
    I have Oracle 10g R2 10.2.0.1.0. Recently, I enabled ARCHIVELOG on my server as I wanted to migrate the database to a new server. After one day, I tried to access the database using any user apart from SYS or SYSTEM but I could not log in.
    I investigated further and this is what happened:
    1. When i try to connect to the database using SQLDeveloper with SCOTT, it gives me a message confirming that it has successfully connected to the database.
    2. But after that, i cannot access any of my tables/views for this user as it again tries to load the database on the client. SQL developer hangs and I have to terminate the process to restart the client.
    When I try using SQL Plus and log in using sqlplus sys@orcl as sysdba; I can connect to the database, but when I try sqlplus scott@orcl; I get this error,
    ERROR:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    Please HELP!!! i am really stuck!!!

    OK... a new one.. after I try what you suggested, sqlplus is stuck after I enter the password:

  • Oracle 10g forms developer, How to add a graph item

    Hi guys,
    We are the final stage of Oracle EBS R12 implementation and developing inhouse applications and deploying them right now. However, would appreciate if somebody would share the knowledge about adding graph items with form modules. Most of the google search provides pointers towards graphs for reports. Any help would be appreciated.
    We don't have existing graphs, so migrating from 6i is not a piont.
    Thanks and regards,

    Thank you very much Andreas. As you could read with my first post, we were totally into forms 6i until last few months and forms 10g is pretty new environment for us. We would appreciate incase if you could be more specific. Our requirement is simple right now, add a graph item. Hence, you may point us towards some repositories which are reliable for beginners.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Non public text items into a Public page

    Hello,
    I have a Page with Public Access, but inside it an item text which I would like to set as non public access item. In fact I do that, but when I display the page in view mode I can see that non public item although I had set the access th it as non public.
    Is there any way of achieve that feature ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Izzat Sabbagh
    ITC

    Hi Izzat,
    What version of Portal are you running? I am unaware of any issues related to what you are trying. Ensure that you are not trying to view the secure content as the owner/creator of the page group or page even though you have not given this user access to the item. The owner/creator of the page will always see everything.
    I hope this helps,
    Candace

  • Oracle 10g on Windows Server off-line database backup - a few questions

    I'd like to do an Oracle off-line backup every night. Please tell me what you think about my plan.
    First, run this batch file.
    set oracle_sid=PLDG
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\sqlplusw.exe /nolog @c:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\shutdb.sql
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\oradim -shutdown -sid PLDG -shuttype srvc
    net stop OracleORADB10GTNSListenerPLDG
    This is the shutdb.sql script that the above batch file calls.
    set echo on
    spool C:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\shutdb.log
    connect /@pledgemaker as sysdba
    shutdown immediate
    spool off
    exit
    ....that should shut down the database.
    Now I will copy the files that the following three queries pulls up to another server.
    SQL> select name from sys.v_$datafile;
    NAME
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\SYSTEM01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\UNDOTBS01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\SYSAUX01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\DRSYS01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\ODM01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\TOOLS01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\USERS01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\XDB01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\MAILING01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\BO516_REP01.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA02.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA03.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX02.DBF
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX03.DBF
    SQL> select member from sys.v_$logfile;
    MEMBER
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO01A.LOG
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO01B.LOG
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO02A.LOG
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO02B.LOG
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO03A.LOG
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO03B.LOG
    SQL> select name from sys.v_$controlfile;
    NAME
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL01.CTL
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL02.CTL
    C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL03.CTL
    After copying the above files, I want to start the database back up.  First I run this batch file
    set oracle_sid=PLDG
    net start OracleORADB10GTNSListenerPLDG
    C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\oradim -startup -sid PLDG -starttype srvc,inst
    Then run this script.
    set echo on
    spool C:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\startdb.log
    connect /@pledgemaker as sysdba
    startup
    spool off
    exit
    - Is this plan complete?
    - Will the filenames that the above three queries retrieve ever change in the future? Or do they remain the same?
    - There are other files in the C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\ directory, such as TEMP01.DBF. I am assuming that I do not need to back these files up. Is this correct?
    Thanks so much for your help!

    I agree that I should eventually get to learning RMAN and should understand it thoroughly. I've read a lot of the documentation on it but it can be really confusing. I mean there are 666 page books on Oracle backups - it is intimidating.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.

    Edited by: DataHandle on Jun 14, 2012 9:49 AMYes, the official documentation can be pretty overwhelming. I suggest you go to amazon and look up "RMAN Backup and Recovery" by Hart and Freeman. It is very well written and cuts through a lot of the clutter of the actual reference manual.
    For the immediate, here's what you need to do
    log on the the sever as 'oracle' - or whoever owns the oracle installation
    then
    rman target /
    rman> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1;     << set this how you want -- it's a quick reference in the official docs
    rman> CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
    rman> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    rman> CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO COMPRESSED BACKUPSET;
    rman> CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT   '/oradata/fs91upg/upgbkup/%U';     << set the path to wherever you want to store your backup
    rman>the above commnads are one-time setup.
    rman> shutdown immediate
    rman> startup mount
    rman> backup database

    Well, I have noticed that you didn't provide much information. First of all you need to take a look at alert log file and trace files in order to get more information.

    it will connect to the default SID, there's no such thing as a default SID, what do you mean?

    want to connect to SID other than the default SID.just specify the desired SID prior starting rman.
    more over the same string is working with 9i but not
    with 10G.maybe due to a bug?
    to summarize, you have two options it you would like to start up the instance:
    either you specify the SID prior starting rman and use os authentication
    or
    you register the instance statically and use oracle authentication.

  • Create a new user for oracle 10G ASM instance with sysdba system privilege

    Hi,
    In our Golden Gate Project, we require the SYS user credential to connect to the Oracle 10g  ASM instance to read the database transaction logs.But our client is not providing the SYS user credential to  connnect to ASM instance.
    I'm getting the error message "ORA-01109:  database not open",When I tried to create a new user using the  below the steps in oracle 10g ASM instance
    1. Login using "sqlplus / as sysdba"
    2. Create user <username> identified by <password>;
    But in oracle 11g ASM instance, I'm able to create new  user  by connecting the ASM instance with SYSASM role without issues.
    Is there is any workaround to create a new user with sysdba system privilege in oracle 10g ASM instance?.
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi,
    Recreate the password file for the ASM instance as follows:
    Unix:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/PWD<SID> password=<sys_password>
    Windows:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/database/PWD<SID>.ora password=<sys_password>
    Now sys password is reset, we are ready to use sys for ASM management. I decided to create another user ASMDBA as I tried above.
    SQL> create user ASMDBA identified by test01;
    User created.
    SQL> grant SYSASM, SYSOPER to ASMDBA;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;
    USERNAME SYSDBA SYSOPE SYSASM
    SYS TRUE TRUE TRUE
    ASMDBA FALSE TRUE TRUE

    Thank you
