Oracle 10g release 2 and Oracle Unbreakable Linux 5

Hello, I tried to install Oracle (Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86-64) into the last oracle linux distribution. I have problems with the installation process:
@SRVAXILAB072 database]$ ./runInstaller

I see in this forum some solutions but none works for me (I´m installing Oracle Unbreakable Linux 5 x64) to solve this problem I put libXp lib but the problem is the same.
The library is installed:
[root@SRVAXILAB072 oracle]# ll /usr/lib64/libXp.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Aug 16 18:10 /usr/lib64/libXp.so.6 -> libXp.so.6.2.0
[root@SRVAXILAB072 oracle]#
But I think the installation process are searching in /usr/lib but I didn´t have the library in 32b I tried to copy to /usr/lib and another crazy ideas but didn’t work.
I read alot of post and guides for installation process but I didn´t see nothing to install Oracle in Oracle Unbreakable Linux 5
Some ideas??
If not..... I will try with Oracle Unbreakable linux 4 :(
Thanks
Best Regards

Well, I've not been in touch with installs on linux myself for a long time, but it seems you need a few 32-bit libs. Try installing libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm.

    There is so much you aren't telling us. For example, if you created a user "oracle" to be the Oracle software owner and install the Oracle software with, there will be a directory named /home/oracle. Inside this directory will be a file called .bash_profile. You can put lines like export ORACLE_HOME=, export ORACLE_BASE= and export ORACLE_SID= so that your environment is set up when you login. Jeff Hunter has a lot of information like this on his website. Check it out.

  • Oracle 10g XE and Oracle 8.1

    HI,
    I am new in oracle and I installed both Oracle 10g XE and after Oracle 8.17 Standard with Apache server. Does anybody know why Oracle 10g XE doesn't start (doesn't find APEX) when Oracle 8.17 is running on the same computer?
    Tks,

    You can not use XE parallel with another Oracle instance. Only one instance per network.

  • Oracle 10g lite and Oracle 8i compatibility

    I have a series of Oracle 8.1.7.4 database servers running on Unix platforms scattered around the globe that use multi-master replication for synchronization. I need to populate approximately 500 Windows 2000 deployable systems that will operate in austere communication environments. These remote systems will need to be kept synchronized with the primary servers. I have no choice but to keep Oracle 8.i on the primary servers but have some flexibility in deploying a more current version on the PCs. Are there interoperability problems between Oracle 8.i and 10g Oracle Database Lite?

    After having wasted 2 days trying to get Oracle Lite 10g Release 2 (10.0.1.2)working with Oracle RDBMS 1.8.7.4 (running on VMS) we failed. We had to downgrade to OLITE 10g R1 (10.0.0.) that evntually worked in combination with 8.1.7.4. We also found out that Oracle Lite Mobile Server repository should reside on the same Oracle instance as the back-end database.

  • (again) oracle 10g client and oracle 10g express in one computer

    hi again, sorry if this question looks like a double post to you.
    Well this is quite embarassing yet still make some headache for me. I have my office PC installed with Oracle 10g client using admin component option, for connecting some application with database on remote server. Now, after I have developed some basic map using Oracle 10g Express on my home PC, I want to test it in my office network. But everytime I tried to install Oracle Express, it web interface will working normally while all other aplication can no longer connected with remote server from the client. If I remove Oracle Express, all client connection will working again as if nothing happened. I already created Microsoft LoopBack connection using IP 10.10.10.10, edit TNSNAMES.ORA, etc that could possibly helpful but nothing fixed. Strangely, if I install Oracle 10g Database version, all connection to remote server working again, and map application also working. But this kind of installation takes up all my PC resources (grrrr!). Any more suggestion?
    best regards
    net2surfin

    I'm sorry if the information not accurate, but the client connection made by application which try to connect is simply "not resolved" and show no error code/number at all. I'll try to connect from sqlplus though, maybe the error number will be known from this way.
    About 10.10.10.10 tcp loopback, I got this work around from here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/reqs.htm#BABGCEAI
    in the Ora Database Preinstallation requirement, where it states like this:
    +16.In the Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address and do the following:+
    a.IP Address: Enter a non-routable IP for the loopback adapter. Oracle recommends the following non-routable addresses:
    +■192.168.x.x (x is any value between 0 and 255)+
    +■10.10.10.10+ <---- this is the value suggested that I've been used in my home PC
    b.Subnet mask: Enter 255.255.255.0.
    c.Record the values you entered, which you will need later in this procedure.
    d.Leave all other fields empty.
    e.Click OK.
    I'll try to remove the loopback later and see the ORA environment, to see the result. In the mean time, all suggestions is highly appreciated.
    thank you n best regards

  • Auditing in oracle 10g database and oracle 10g application server

    Dear friends,
    We have oracle 10g application server and oracle 10g database server in place.My criteria is to audit users connected using oracle application user credentials to the database.
    Can you please tell me how can i do it.
    Thanks & regards,

    Its the database connection you want to track. The session audit will show where it came from.
    Auditing is turned using this command:
    alter system set audit_trail = DB scope=spfile;
    Note: The use of spfile will require a DB bounce before audit starts
    To audit Sessions:
    audit create session;
    Query by Audit Type:
    SELECT A.USERNAME,
    OS_USERNAME,
    A.TIMESTAMP,
    A.RETURNCODE,
    TERMINAL,
    USERHOST
    FROM DBA_AUDIT_SESSION A
    WHERE USERHOST = <replace with iAS servername> ;
    By User
    SELECT USERNAME,OBJ_NAME,ACTION_NAME , TIMESTAMP
    FROM DBA_AUDIT_TRAIL WHERE USERNAME = 'SCOTT';
    Check for users sharing database accounts
    select count(distinct(terminal)),username
    from dba_audit_session
    having count(distinct(terminal))>1
    group by username;
    Attempts to access the database at unusual hours
    SELECT username, terminal, action_name, returncode,
    TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),
    TO_CHAR (logoff_time, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    FROM dba_audit_session
    WHERE TO_DATE (TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'HH24:MI:SS'), 'HH24:MI:SS') <
    TO_DATE ('08:00:00', 'HH24:MI:SS')
    OR TO_DATE (TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'HH24:MI:SS'), 'HH24:MI:SS') >
    TO_DATE ('19:30:00', 'HH24:MI:SS');
    Attempts to access the database with non-existent users
    SELECT username, terminal, TO_CHAR (TIMESTAMP, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
    FROM dba_audit_session
    WHERE returncode <> 0
    AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 'x'
    FROM dba_users
    WHERE dba_users.username = dba_audit_session.username);
    Other audits you might consider:
    audit grant any object privilege;
    audit alter user;
    audit create user;
    audit drop user;
    audit drop tablespace;
    audit grant any role;
    audit grant any privilege;

  • Difference between oracle 10g dba and oracle 11i apps dba

    hi
    can any one please explain this.
    thank you

    Hi,
    can any one please explain this.An Oracle Applications DBA is very different from a regular Oracle database administrator and requires specialized skills in business administration and Oracle application server architectures. The Oracle Applications DBA job role is less compartmentalized than a traditional Oracle DBA and the Oracle Applications DBA must also have skills in these areas:
    Database Design - Many shops require customized functional extensions and reporting data marts and the Oracle Applications DBA must have outstanding Database design skills.
    Oracle Application Server - The Oracle Applications DBA must understand the internals of the Oracle concurrent manager and understand how to monitor and tune Oracle Applications.
    Functional Expertise - Many shops requires a business degree and a general understanding of the Oracle Applications module. For example, accountants are widely used to support Oracle eBusiness Suite (Oracle Financials), and accountants with an IT background are easily trained in Oracle Applications DBA support.

  • Singl/Multiple Server Oracle 10g DB and AS- Advantages and DisAdvantages

    Hi Friends,
    I am using Application1 using Oracle 10g Application Server and Oracle 10g database.
    Now i planned to use Application2 using Oracle 10g AS and Oracle 10g DB
    I need to know what will be the Advantages and Disadvantages if i have the schema for Application2 in the existing Oracle 10g DB / having it in another Oracle 10g DB Server
    sameway what will be the advantages and disadvantages if i have the Application2 regsiterd in existing Oracle 10g AS(Multiple OC4J Instance) / having it in another Oracle 10g AS Server.
    Regards

    To start the list, for me some of the advantages are:
    Same DB:
    - less overhead and wasted CPU Cycles (therefore potentially lower license fees)
    - easier maintenance (backup, recovery)
    - easier tuning (fewer conflicting external environments asking for same resources)
    - Oracle is designed for this, allows use of Resource Manager
    - technically RAC is a clustered 'same DB'
    Same AS:
    - less overhead and wasted CPU Cycles (therefore potentially lower license fees)
    - easier maintenance (backup, recovery)
    - easier tuning (fewer conflicting external environments asking for same resources)
    - Oracle is designed for this, use AS clustering
    Different DB:
    - separate maintenance (patch, upgrade) cycles for different SLA
    - easier tuning (isolate tuning to one app)
    - easier security (most developers have no idea about Oracle security and make merge impossible)
    Different AS:
    - separate maintenance (patch, upgrade) cycles for different SLA
    - easier tuning (isolate tuning to one app)
    - easier security (most developers have no idea about security)

  • Compatibility about oracle 10g release1 and unbreakable Linux

    Hi there,
    My OS is "Oracle Unbreakable Linux" which is from ORACLE, when I tried to install oracle 10g release 1 , it got error as below:
    [oracle@O10gR1 Disk1]$ ./runInstaller
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    Checking installer requirements...
    Checking operating system version: must be redhat-2.1, redhat-3, SuSE-9, SuSE-8 or UnitedLinux-1.0
    Failed <<<<
    Can somebody tell me if unbreakable linux is compatible to oracle 10g release 1 ?
    Thanks

    Oracle 10gR1 is certified with OEL, you might have using old downloaded installer, that's why you getting error. Download new installer from otn.oracle.com.
    OR
    you just need to execute runInstaller with -ignoreSysPrereqs switch:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    OR
    Update oraparam.ini in STAGE_AREA/Disk1/install

  • Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux x86-64

    Hi All,
    During installation - Oracle Database Configuration Assistance, I have got below error and thus I stuck. As per Metalink note 293988.1, this will be resolved if I do [root@localhos]# echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock . But problem is when I do this because I dont have /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock file in my system, it giving ¨bash: /proc/sys/vm/disable_cap_mlock: No such file or directory¨ error. So I am unable to get rid of this error. I also set SELinux Default and Current mode as permissible and rebooted it.
    No use, Its giving same error.

    Trust me I verified installtion guide and release notes atleast 20 times. I never had luck witht any thing. I was wondering how come edelivery.oracle.com packages (both Linux 64 bit Linux with upgrade to Unbreakable and Oracle 10g db version) is not workign for me. Finally below trick to the installed file could make my installation work(Ref link http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gInstallationOnFedora2.php) . In this I am setting DISABLE_HUGETLBFS to value 1. My only doubt is, does this have any impact on performance? Can some one relay on such tweeking for prod installtions? Ofcourse I am yet to go for commercial. At present I dont have ULN or metalink authorised access.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    mv oracle oracle.bin
    cat >oracle <<"EOF"
    #!/bin/bash
    export DISABLE_HUGETLBFS=1
    exec $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.bin $@
    EOF

    Hey Guys,
    I am Srinivas Here who had been trying to install Oracle Database 10G on Windows X86 on Windows XP Professional.
    If you have Win-XP Professional as your Operating System. Do not download the oracle Database using windows - XP Professional because XP will block certain installation files while downloading. In your machine install Windows 2000 or any other Windows version as a dual boot. First the download Database Zip files using your other version of Windows Operating system and then when you Unzip the files it will create a folder called Database and all the files will be present in it.If you want to store the same to cd for having to install the 10G Rel 2 database through CD then copy the contents of the unzipped database folder and store only the contents of the database folder and write them to CD's. Please see to it that while writing on cd's do not copy the folder itself .
    After this, restart the system and get into windows XP Professional (Your XP Professional should be with Service Pack 2 in order to install 10G Database on windows XP - The Basic requirements for Oracle Database 10G on Windows X86).
    I request you to check the software and hardware requirements from oracle Documents before you install the Oracle Database 10G on Windows x86 as well as Oracle Database 10G on Linux X86 or any other operating systems.
    Finally, After you run the Oracle Universal installer in the last you will get messages for all products installed Success and finally it will ask the password for DBA and open the password management and give the password and reenter password and on the left you will have to unlock the items you would like to use.
    In the last it will give you various URL links for Isqlplus, DBA, Enterprise Manager and a log report stored into oracle directory stored in your C:\Program files\Oracle folders. The correct link will be given at the end and you will have to watch the installation carefully.You can find DBCA and other options working. Try login in to Oracle through Command prompt, Sqlplus prompt availabe in Start ->Programs->Orahome10G->application Development-sqlplus as well as login through isqlplus link- Before this you should login at the command prompt as SYSDBA. YOU CAN SEE THAT YOUR DATABASE IS NOW WORKING IN WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL FORUM MEMBERS WHO GAVE ME IDEA AND SUPPORT

  • OWB on Oracle 10G Release 2

    Dear all,
    I planned to use an Oracle 10G Release 2 database for a new OWB project. Research on the web just told me that this new version of the database does not support OWB, because of a check for DBA privileges.
    The website advises to either use an earlier version of the database (10g R1) or wait for the release of the 10.1.0.4 patch for OWB.
    Is this patch available at this moment? If so, can anyone tell me where I can download it? If not, does anyone know when this patch will be released?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul Versluis

    Hi,
    I have installed 10.1.0.4 OWB on Suse 9.3 and Suse 10 x86.
    I sent correction notes to Oracle Documentation team as there were a few errors for the Linux Install.
    More importantly i found in 10.1.0.4 one of the key install shell scripts will never work as the coders forgot to export a JAVAPATH variable meaning the script could never find the JRE
    Good to see ORACLE test the installation of their releases
    When i get back from Bew Year holiday i will send you my notes if you like

  • Oracle XA library not available  - Oracle 10g Release 2.0.1

    Hi,
    We have downloaded Oracle 10g Release 2.0.1 enterprise edition from oracle site and installed on Red hat Linux 4.0. After installation we found Oracle XA library is missing. Ideally it should be in folder $Oracle_Home/rdbms/xa/.
    The entire XA folder is missing in rdbms folder. Since the XA library is missing, we are not able to complie some C++ code which uses XA interface to connect to Oracle DB. Any help on this will be highly appreciated.
    Is this possible that XA library only comes with the license version??
    Regards,
    Sanjiv

    There is no such thing in Oracle as a "licensed version." When you download you download the entire product.
    But if you don't have a license then you really should contact your Oracle sales rep immediately. First for reasons of ethics but second to get a support contract which it looks like you are going to need to get patches for 10.2.0.4.
    My vanilla installation contains it so you might want to try first checking the installation log file for any reference to it.
