Oracle 10g Unsupport by oracle ?

When Oracle Version 10g is going to retire(Oracle won't give support)

Oracle 10g (Release 2) is in extended support since last July 2010.
It will be supported, on the latest patchset - 10.2.0.5 until July 2013 with quarterly CPUs/PSUs (all the previous patchsets will be stopped to be patched from Apr 2011).
From 2013, it will retain the sustaining support (support on known bugs, but no new patches will be delivered).

I am thinking that all of this is caused by the various issues I had with the install. If I am incorrect, then please let me know. If it is true, I would like to know if there are any 11g docs on how to clean up a failed clusterware upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on any of the situations I am having.
    Thank you

    Hi Chandra,
Did CVU report any problems before the upgrade? No, there were no errors reported by CVU before the upgrade.
I don't there is note out there for cleaning 11g CRS
install...and I think can very use the 10g CRS note -
239998.1.Yeah I might have to go that way.
I have both the 11g CRS install and upgrade from 10g
    to 11CRS at

see if it helps.Yup, your guide is very simple, clear and error proof :) That's how mine when pretty much except right around 75% I started getting these strange errors of files not being able to be transferred to node 2. Anyways, it shouldn't be a problem as none of those errors were configuration related...or else I would have a messed up cluster.
Well, I actually rebooted both machines and now the whole CRS stack is up!! So I guess I am ok. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for your help Chandra...I always appreciate it.

The copy method being using is unsupported, hence the target Portal would be in an unsupported state.
This is unsupported as per the following note:
Note 333867.1 - Portal Export and Import Utility Supportability Scenarios :
Copy operations after an object is renamed:
Exporting and importing a page group, then renaming the page group on the target system (to create a copy) and repeating the export and import operation.

    Not supported.
Please do not rename objects if you plan to perform export and import operations.
Note: The display name can be changed, but internal name change is considered a renaming operation.

  • Unable to install Oracle Lite 10g on Windows 7 64-bit

I've tried installing Oracle Lite 10g on my Windows 7 64-bit computer but I get a message saying "JDK is not installed on machine". I even have Java installed on my computer too.
Any ideas what could be causing the issue?
    Thanks
    Gareth

Oracle lite 10g is not supported on Windows 7.    The core issue is you are running on an unsupported platform.
You have may have to go in the docs and figure out what JDKs were supported, i think 1.4 and 1.5. and try
installing one of those and maybe you can get uninstall to work.   This is just a guess though.
    thanks

  • Install Oracle 10g on windows 2008 Server 64bit

Is it possible to install Oracle 10g on Windows 2008 64bit . I read one post below it says , windows 2008 is not certified for oracle 10g ..
    windows server 2008 Oracle 10G 64 bit
before I installed 32bit , it is throwing error message on alert log file on every 5 seconds.
"OER 7451 in Load Indicator : Error Code = OSD-04500: illegal option specified
    O/S-Error: (OS 1) Incorrect function. ! "
if it is possible which version I want to download is best ..
and what is the recommendation whether it is 10g or 11g

You mean to say Oracle 10g 64bit will not work in Windows 2008..?No, i meaned the post you linked was written in year 2008, in that year it's was a unsupported platform for that oracle version. Actually its supported and you can install it.
Furthermore like Aman told you, It's more recommended install 11gR2 version

  • Oracle 10g installation on Windows 7

I am currently using Oracle 10g on my laptop running on Windows Vista. Now i am planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 7. My question here, is can I use the same Oracle 10g installable to install in windows 7 also ??
    is it possible ??
    thanks,
    JJ

    Possible yes? Brilliant no!
Windows 7 is totally uncertified and unsupported with all Oracle products and if you have an issue there is essentially no support or patch available.
Personally I think Vista a cruel joke so my recommendation would be to go to XP SP3 which at least has the attribute of stability or move to Linux which is what I did on one of my laptops.

  • Oracle 10g - architechture and compatibility

    I want to know that
    - Whether Oracle 10g support 2 tier Architecture Or it is strictly for 3 tier.
    - If it doesn’t support 2 tier then, is Oracle 9i is the latest version for 2 tier system.
    - If Oracle 10g supports 2 tier then ,Is Developer 200 version 5.6 is compatible with Oracle 10g. ?
Please response my query, as I have to take some urgent decisions based on this asap.

If Oracle 10g means Database server 10g, then it's independent from Client Architecture ( 2 or 3 tiers refers to Client Architecture), you can use the same DB with both architectures simultaneously.
Is Developer 200 version 5.6 is compatible with Oracle 10g. ?
In Metalink Note:207303.1 you can see the official Client / Server / Interoperability support between different Oracle versions, but I have to say that I've already used unsupported combinations, e.g. 8.0.6 Client with 10g DB, and they may work, so the best thing would be to try.....

  • Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

You didn't specify which Oracle10 Edition.
In the case of SE/SE one/EE, with a paid license Supported has a mean impact on production environments with paid licenses, since you wouldn't run on an unsupported platform facing the risk of being left without technical support from Oracle in case of an emerging issue.
For the XE Edition, this is not a certified combination, since the only certified editions are the Business, Enterprise, and the Ultimate editions, but you can try it, you don't have nothing to loose, supported, certified vs. unsupported in this case makes no difference since this XE is not supported either way (no patchsets, no bug fixes, no technical support from metalink), just an AS IS free software.
On the license agreement terms displayed when you download the XE software it states:
    "No Technical Support
Our technical support organization will not provide technical support, phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this agreement."
    and
"THE PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE FURTHER DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."
In case someone would be able to win a trial against oracle due to damage from the use of this software, the amount paid at maximum is 1,000.00 USD, not enough to even pay the lawyer's lunches.
For the XE users the primary source of 'kind of support' is the oracle forums, either the installation forum, the general database or the specialized XE forum.
Of course if this is for your own personal use for learning and testing and there are no third parties you could damage by doing this and if you don't have a paid license for this installation you may try it, but don't expect the Enterprise Manager to behave as defined by the manual, most of it won't work since the Home Edition doesn't have the privileges required for EM to work.
If this is your personal computer and when you bought it the computer provider installed from factory Home Edition, and if you want something to work there, you can try to install a Virtual Machine and install Oracle 10g on a supported guest OS.

  • Oracle 10g Release 2

    Hi Guys...
I am currently running Oracle 9.2.0.4 database on Solaris...
Our workshop plan to upgrade to Oracle 10g Release 2...
I need to find out what are the risks involved in upgrade from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g Release 2...
I will also appreciate reference to any material that might help me in that topic.
    Thanks in advance

The most frequently seen issue found when performing this kind of upgrades has to do with the changes in the optimizer. Most people complain about loss of performance, changed executions plans and 'surprises' with loss of implicit ordered sets (the group by clause no longer guarantees your result set will be ordered).
There are other issues that have to do with memory, you may face an ORA-04030 error, and it is because the oracle server process requires more memory and it may excessively consume memory resources at the PGA area.
The most important issue you must verify is to have your application certified against 10gR2. When asking some DBA's why they still run on unsupported 8.0 or 8i releases, most of them say because they have to drag an application that was never certified to run on more recent db releases.
I strongly suggest you to extensively run test environments and don't put the COMPATIBLE parameter to 10.2.0 unless you are absolutely certain you won't perform a downgrade.
I have found some issues when performing this kind of upgrades. Ref. [Issues found when upgrading 9.2.0 to 10.2.0|http://hrivera99.blogspot.com/2008/01/issues-found-when-upgrading-920-to-1020.html]

  • Blank space updatation to Collection field in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
we have the Oracle 9i database in the dev environment and Oracle 10g in Production environment.
In Oracle 9i, the below scenario works find, but in Oracle 10g it won'nt, The scenerio is ,
    Update table1
    set test_collection = ' '; -- works fine in Oracle 9i , but it wont works in Oracle 10g,
    Update tabel1
set test_collection = null; -- works in both the versions.
    Please suggest,.
    raja k

What is myv, is that the collection name ?? See post number 5 of this thread where I declared it.
    >
In Oracle 9i, we need not to specify the collection
name while updating the collection type field in the
table. 9.2.0.6 was notoriously buggy and wasn't considered stable till 9.2.0.7 if I recall correctly. And now (thankfully) it's unsupported.
The sql code was written in concern to Oracle 9i, now
while migrating to Oracle 10g, we are getting the
problem with this. The problem is , i don'nt have the
access to Production environment, which is migrated
to Oracle 10g, we develop the code on Oracle 9i, and
will release to deploy on Oracle 10g. Develop in 9i and deploy to 10g! Do you really think that's a good setup? How about upgrading your development environment to match production.
    update table1 set test_collection = null; - this
works fine in Oracle 9i ,
    update table1 set test_collection = ''; - this works
    fine in Oracle 9i ,
    but in Oracle 10g ,
    update table1 set test_collection = null; - this
works fine in Oracle 10g ,
    update table1 set test_collection = ''; - this won'nt
works in Oracle 10g , Yes, I already understand what your issue is.
as you suggested, do we need to specify the
collection name while updating the collection type
field. in Oracle 10g, In Oracle 9i , it won'nt
required ?? Yes, this would be the correct way to do it.
    Karthick,
because null is not same as ''
    SQL> select * from dual where ''=null
    2 /
no rows selectedErrrm, yes it is actually...
    SQL> select 1 from dual where '' is null;
    1
    1
    SQL>
... if you use the correct condition for checking nulls.

  • Installation of Oracle Developer suite 10g on windows 8

Can any one Please confirm, if Oracle Developer suite 10g is supported on windows 8 or not? Any types of Documents/materiel in this regard shall be highly appriciable.
    Regards,

It is an unsupported/uncertified combination - so the install may or may not work as expected. If the install completes, there no guarantee that the software will work as expected. Supported/certified OS versions are listed on the Install Guide. Is there a reason you are using this combination ?

  • Database links between Oracle 10G and 7.1/7.3 & 8.0 databases

    Hi All..
Unfortunately one of our customers is still using very very old unsupported versions of the database - 7.1 and 7.3 and 8.0. They wish to start an upgrade process - moving up to 10G (via staged upgrades) but wish to know whether they can still access information from old databases via database links.
I know that the Oracle 10G client cannot connect to database versions this old, and I am presuming that the database itself cannot via DB links but I thought it wise to check.
    Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Oracle 10.1 is certified to connect to 8.1.7 and later. Database links to earlier versions are not certified and generally do not work.
The general solution to this sort of thing tends to be putting an older version of the database (8.1.7 or 9.0.1, usually) between the ancient databases and the new database. 10.1 can create a database link to 9.0.1. 9.0.1 can create a database link to 7.3.4 and create views that reference remote 7.3.4 objects that the 10.1 system can query. Of course, you're taking data over the network twice, so performance isn't ideal, but it can work in a pinch.
