I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
We have a Schema A with database objects.
We need to provide access to another group on selective items.
We need to provide Read access to one table (T1) of Schema A and Insert/Update access to another one (T2).
If we create another user/schema B in our instance, they can see other than T1 and T2 of Sch A via other User Objects (via TOAD/SQL Developer etc) or using Database catalog.
How do we hide our other objects for User/Schema B?

With Oracle everything is prohibited; except that which is explicitly GRANTed.
simply put SCHEMA_B has privs to see objects that are owned by SCHEMA_A.

You should never, ever create user objects in the SYS schema. If you created the table in the SYS schema, you really need to drop it and create it in a more appropriate schema.
You indicate that you're coming from SQL Server, so there is perhaps a terminology issue. What SQL Server refers to as a "database" is roughly equivalent to what Oracle refers to as a "schema". An Oracle database contains many schemas. A schema is the set of objects owned by a particular user.

If you really want to, though, you would need to log in to the SYS schema and grant access on the table to your new user

Modern versions are used to build three-tier applications. You can also use APEX to build web-based applications. Depending on what "remote users" means though, it may be rather ill-advised-- you'd never want to open up a database to the internet directly, for example, you'd want to ensure that the remote users are connected to your network (i.e. via a VPN).

It looks like you are working with a debug build:

But then further down in your output I see this:

You appear to be mixing debug and release libraries which will not work correctly.
This is in the following step in the blog post:
"Expand Configuration Properties node, expand Linker node, select Input item, enter "oraocci11d.lib" for a debug build or "oraocci11.lib" for a release build."
If you are creating a debug build you need to use oraocci11d.lib as input to the linker.
You use oraocci11.lib as input to the linker for the release build.

Oracle 11G/ MV log is newer than the last full refresh

We access from two data banks about MATERIALIZED VIEWs a big master table.
The second data bank is new created. A Complete-Refresh lasts > one hour.
Then never takes place fast-refresh because the MV log on the master db
does not reproach with the data long enough. What can we do? Can one
increase the hold duration of the data in the MV LOG?

Allow Windows AD domain user to access and manage objects in Oracle 11g

Hi,
I'm using Oracle 11g on Windows environments, XP, server 2003 etc.
If I use a domain user (user1) maintained on domain server (adsvr.company.com) to manage Oracle objects in DB server (dbsvr), do I have to assign user1 as member of administrator on DB server (dbsvr)?
I'm asking this because my software vendor requires for it but our security policy doesn't allow us to assign normal domain user (user1) to administrator group on local machine (dbsvr).
If I have to assign user1 to administrator group on dbsvr, please point me which document says so.

As per the above process, if we observe that drop of index on a table arel lead to invalidation of view which* depends on that table and all the objects which uses this view will also get invalidated.*
The above invalidation is being occurred only in Oracle 11g R2, due to which we are facing the issue in our application.
We got a procedure where we disable a constraint , drop a index and process the insertion/updation into the tables. After successfull insertion/updation, at finally we are enabling the constraint.
This worked fine with previous releases of oracle 11g R2 , where as we recently migrated to 10g R2 which was leading to invalidation of all packages which uses the view , and in the application which uses previous db sessions are unable to access the invalidated package and raising an exception.
Please provide the solution if any possible

I tested the behavior in 10.2.0.4 and 11.2.0.3
In 10.2.0.4, The view was valid if we disabled the constraint using the keep index option but it became invalid after dropping the index. SO i guess you are making them as unusable and rebuilding them after data load.
in 11.2.0.3, The view became invalid as soon as we disabled the constraint using the keep index option.

Accessing Oracle spatial objects (SDO_GEOMETRY) through ODBC/OLEDB

Hello.
I tried googling and reading through these forums and Oracle documentation, but I'm still uncertain on this question:
Are Oracle spatial objects (of type SDO_GEOMETRY) accessible through ODBC and/or OLE DB drivers? Can I retrieve them with SELECT clause? Can I write them to database?
I'm limited to these options because I'm developing Delphi application based on ADO and it must work with different DB servers. However I certainly don't want to implement different ways of accessing database for each server.
If geometry objects aren't suported by ODBC/OLEDB, is there any way to convert SDO_GEOMETRY to (and from) BLOB or string or whatever, so I can read and write them like a normal data field?

The SDO_UTIL package has lots of options to help output spatial data to other formats, and you may be able to use some of them to help.
Some that come to mind are:
SDO_UTIL.TO_WKTGEOMETRY
SDO_UTIL.TO_GMLGEOMETRY
SDO_UTIL.TO_KMLGEOMETRY
This is covered in chapter 32 of the Oracle® Spatial Developer's Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2).

How to export a table of data from MS Access 2007 to Oracle 11g

I have been looking all over trying to find a way to get a table from Access 2007 to Oracle 11g. I tried using the export options in Access but can't get them setup correctly I guess. What are the steps to setting this up correctly or is there another way to export the data?

6. I created db link: create public database link macs using 'MIKEACS' (connected as sysdba);

That's the problem. DG4ODBC on 64bit Windows is 64bit and thus it also requires a 64bit ODBC driver.
If you don't find one - maybe you can install DG4ODBC 32bi on a 32bit platform (please do NOT install it on the 64bit Windows machine) and then use this 32biit DG4ODBC with the 32bit ODBC driver.
Another option would be to purchase a commercial ODBC driver or a bridged ODBC driver.

Oracle 11g for Oracle access manager, OID version details

At present we have 1og db for sso and oid. I have checking in db that our exsisting OID and SSO versions are
Oracle9iAS Single Sign-On 10.1.2.0.2
Oracle9iAS Internet Directory
OID 10.1.2.1.0
We are moving to diff hosting solution and vendor is recommanding to have 11g Oracle access manager(in 11g sso is replaced by OAM) and OID.
What is the version of OID with 11g or please refer me to the documentaion where i can greb 11g OAM, oid etc versions

Vb6 ODBC - Syntax error or access violation in oracle 11g migration

Hi,
We have VB6 application with Oracle 10g and the same is working fine.
Now, we are migrating to Oracle 11g now and we have updated the odbc drivers too.
{ call M_FR(?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }

L_SUP_TYPE = 1

When calling the above sp in oracle 11g getting error: [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation.
But user has all the right and no issue with access. Also no syntax error. In SQLplus the same is working fine.
Kindly help us to resolve this issue.

Try downloading the latest version of the 8.1.6 driver off OTN.
That sounds like a bug that was fixed a while ago.

Create Type as Object not working in linux oracle 11g

Pleae refer to the following simple create type as object statement.

It is working in oracle 11g and windows server 2008 environment.
But it is not working in oracle 11g with linux environment.

How to identify the locks in oracle db objects? i dont have access to check the v$lock or v$ objects. i dont have dba access. what are the symptoms for table, row or objects lock? how v guess it would be lock?

I believe you will have to call your DBA on the phone in that case.
You can query something with a select ... for update nowait.
If it raises an exception you can handle it within a when section.

Cannot access APEX on Oracle 11g XE Beta on Windows 7

Hello,
I installed the Oracle 11g XE Beta on Windows 7 (32 bit). The installation went ok, and I am able to connect to the enterprise manager website using system/password and also using SQL Plus.
I didn't see a link to APEX setup as part of the install and hence tried http://localhost/pls/apex to launch APEX but an error page shows up.
Are there any post-install steps that I may have missed? Any pointers appreciated.

Check your listener status output (in a command/dos box) , it should have the http endpoint port number and host bits for the apex URL. It should not be port 80 which is what you get when the port is not specified.
$ lsnrctl status
... Listeneing Endpoints...
... PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<your hostname>)(PORT=8080))(Presentation=HTTP) ...Given that output, apex URL would be http://<your hostname>:8080/apex
