Oracle 8i client lib.'s

Where can I find the Oracle 8i client libraries for download?

Hi
Thank you for replying.
The TNSNAMES.ora file looks very fine and I have also checked the listener, which works fine too! But still I can not connect to the main databse thru the dev. machine! It would be very nice if someone can help me coz this is getting serious and urgent!
thanks a lot
Priya
Make sure you have the proper tnsnames.ora
in your ORACLE_HOME\network\admin directory.

  • Backward-compatibility of Oracle 10 Client libs

    Hello,
I would like to know if a program written with Oracle 10 client libraries can communicate with Oracle 9 and Oracle 8 databases on Linux ?
In other words, are Oracle 10 client libraries 100% backward compatible with Oracle 9 & Oracle 8 ?
    Many thanks,
    Colm.

Currently, the 10.1 client will communicate with any database 8.1.7.4 or above. It is expected that the first 10.1 patchset will allow communication with databases 8.1.7.0 and above.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function odbc_connect() in /var/www/html/waseem.php on line 20
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is the problem with oci_connect or odbc_connect?
The phpinfo() output shows '--without-unixODBC' which may be a root cause. There is no 'odbc' section shown in the phpinfo() output so I wouldn't expect odbc calls to work.
But if the issue is with OCI8, then make sure that Oracle environment variables and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are set BEFORE starting Apache.
More information on OCI8 and PHP is in http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/underground-php-oracle-manual.html

  • JVM Crash With Oracle OCI Client

    Hi
My app is running on Windows 7 64 bit, Jboss 4.2, launched from Eclipse, and runs fine when I use the Oracle thin client (10g, 32bit). However when I try to use the OCI client, I get this:
    # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
    # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x6d906f21, pid=4740, tid=5656
    # JRE version: 6.0_21-b07
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (17.0-b17 interpreted mode windows-x86 )
    # Problematic frame:
    # V [jvm.dll+0x106f21]
I'll post the contents of the log in another message because it's too long to fit here. Using the thin client is NOT an option unfortunately as the thin driver is missing some functionality that we need to use.
I've installed the Oracle client in a folder that doesn't contain spaces, or parentheses (c:\oracle\.....) and the JDK is installed in a similar directory (c:\java\...)
I've tried both 32bit and 64 bit versions of JDK1.6 and the Oracle 10g client. I have also tried mixed mode and interpreted mode JVM (Xint) with the same results.
ojdbc14.jar is in my JBoss server's lib directory, and ocijdbc10.dll is in my path (c:\windows\system32).
Anyone any ideas what's going wrong? Been trying to fix this for days now. Appreciate any help.
    Richard

Sorted it (well, my colleague did anyway). We installed a fresh version (32 bit) JDK (6u21), the Oracle 10g (10.0.3) client (32 bit) and made sure that there were no other OCI DLLs anywhere. I had some in the JBoss bin directory which I had copied in earlier that morning and forgotten about. So, the only OCI DLLs I have now are in Oracle's installation directory. Once we removed those erroneous DLLs from the JBoss directory, the server made the connection successfully. I don't full understand why, because I was getting the error earlier without the erroneous DLLs being present too, so I think there was some additional interaction going on somewhere. One other thing that may have been important is the tnsnames.ora file I had. We found a post that said the tnsnames file generated by the installer, when it only has one entry in it, can include dodgy whitespace at the end which can cause problems. So, just to be on the safe side we added a second entry (to another DB) - maybe that was something to do with it.
So, the Oracle 10g client and OCI driver DOES work on Windows 7 64 bit (at least for me anyway)

  • How to install Oracle Database Client 32-bit libraries.

    Dear All,
    In the document : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31765.pdf
it is written "For 64-bit Linux system installations, you must use the Oracle Database Client 32-bit libraries"
how can i install just the libraries from OUI Database 11.2
Is it must to install these libraries first, whatif I install Oracle11.2 64bit client, and then install the OBIEE. Anyhow i need to install OracleDBClient to connect to Oracle server 11.2.

You can't "just install the libraries", you need a full ORacle client installation. The Oracle client can be installed after OBIEE but you must have an Oracle client to connect to an Oracle database via OCI (which is the recomended approach). 64bit client should be fine as long as it has the 32bits libraries. The 10g client does, not sure about the 11g client. Make sure you install the FULL Oracle client, not the Instant Client. The 32bits client libraries are located under lib32, the lib directory is for the 64bits ones. You might need ot re-link them if they were linked correctly during the client installation. But for more information post a message in the Oracle client forum, this is the OBIEE forum.

  • Location of tnsnames.ora for Tora and Oracle XE Client

I Googled far and wide and did not see a CLEAR answer to my question, hopefully this will help others.
I have installed the debian oracle-xe-client and tora packages (tora rebuilt for oracle) on Ubuntu 8.04.
However, I did not know where I was supposed to place the tnsnames.ora file for my databases. I have tried running Tora with the environment variable of TNS_ADMIN set to the file where I placed my tnsnames.ora, however that did not work as Tora did not 'see' the file or its entries apparently. I know this works because I copied it from a Debian Etch box with the client and server installed.
I had even added a 'network/admin' directory structure to the //usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/client (ORACLE_HOME) with the tnsnames.ora but also with no success.
    Now for the solution:
Simply remember that TNS_ADMIN points to the directory where the tnsnames.ora is and it will work. :)
I do have a suggestion that both Tora and sqlplus use a config file to set these directory(s) in addition to the overriding ability of the environment variable, TNS_ADMIN as is usually the case with UNIX apps (and thus expected).
    Thank you,
    Jason

The ODBC Instant Client Readme that is included in the install also indicates that %ORACLE_HOME%/network/admin/tnsnames.ora is the correct default location. What about OCI?

    Pls help me.

Apologies - thought it was a database to database connection that you were trying to create.
isql: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryThe readline library is in package readline-4.3-13 on RHEL4 and in readline-5.1-1.1 for RHEL5 on my servers (minor version number are of course dependent on the kernel version used).
This is also not an ODBC or Oracle issue. It seems that isql is using rlwrap or similar - this requires the readline library. And possibly LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be set too.

I don't understand your step 7 (the first step 7, actually).
What is that unixODBC-2.2.14-linux-x86-32.tar.gz, where did it come from, and why are you doing all that?
unixODBC should be installed after step 5.
I guess that that is the cause of your problem.
isql is not linked against readline at all on my RHEL 5 system.
Do you notice any improvement after removing the files from that tar.bz file?

  • Error Compiling php 5.1.6 with Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.5 on Fedora 5

    Hello
I have Oracle 10.1.0 enterprise database installed on a Windows 2003 server.
I have another machine that has Fedora Core 5 installed on it. I downloaded:
    Apache 2.2.3
    Php 5.1.6
OracleInstantClient 10.1.0.5 (base and skdk packages) from technet.oracle.com
I created a directory called /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 in which I unzipped
the files for the Oracle Instant Client and the SDK into /usr/lib/instantclient10_1.
    So inside /usr/lib/instantclient10_1 I have:
all the unzipped filed from the base for the instant client as well as
a directory called sdk with files inside this subdirectory.
    I compiled and installed Apache.
I then tried to configure php using the instantclient with the configure option
    --with-oci8=instantclient/usr/lib/instantclient10_1
The first time I did this I got the error: "link from
    /usr/lib/instantclient10_1/libclntsh.so to libclntsh.so.10
    not found"
Well I had the libclntsh.so.10 but no such link. So I did the following:
    ln -s libclntsh.so.10.1 libclntsh.so
I assume this was OK to do but I found it strange that I had to do this.
Question #1 - why should I have to do this?
I then tried to configure php again but got an error that I paste in from
the debug.log. From this debug log you can see the configure options I gave for
php as well as the error. It says "cannot find -lirc". Now I did put into
/etc/ld.so.conf the line /usr/lib/gaim since that is where libirc.so is and ran
ldconfig but it still complained. When I copied libirc.so into /usr/lib it then said there were
lots of errors in that libirc.so. The only item in the configure options depending on lirc is
the with-oci8.  Why does with-oci8 depend on lirc?
I also tried the above on Red Hat AS 4.0 and got the same errors.
    Question #2 -- what do I do?
    Thank You
    Gail Lange
Here is the debug.log in the case when libirc.so is just in /usr/lib/gaim:
    CONFIGURE: './configure' '--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs' '--enable-track-vars'
    '--enable-inline-optimization' '--with-gd' '--with-zlib' '--enable-debug'

    Thanks

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. Everything I could find on it had to do with IRC or some kind of remote control thing (for controlling audio/media players). Maybe if Ivan stops by he'll know what it means... he knows quite a lot about the inner workings of many of these libraries.
http://us3.php.net/install.unix was the most useful info I could find.
    There's also this thread:

    One question :
I'm trying to run sqlplus, but have a pb of version :

I had the same problem when I tried to compile directly from the client.
    I can't find GLIBC_2.3.3 on FreeBSD 5.3.
Do you know if it works with another version of FreeBSD ? or should I install an emulator (I tried red hat 8.8, but doesn't work)? I tried to compile glib2.3.3, but it hasn't been ported on FreeBSD.
Anyway, I will try with redhat9.

  • Oracle Instant Client libraries wouldn't install

I tried installing Oracle libraries (main file is called "oracle-instantclient-basic-10.2.0.4-1.i386", SDK and SQL according to the manual Oracle provides here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B1930601/install.102/e12121/insttask.htm#CIHEJFGF
After files is unzipped, manual instructs to use "runInstaller" command out of the directory where files are placed but this command is not recognized which tells me that either command file is missing or command is spelled wrong in the manual.
If anybody has successfully installed Oracle Instant Client on OS X 10.6 from the official Oracle download, please help! Thanks in advance.

Ok - I ran an ugly hack (similar to what I did with Linux) and manually moved files to locations which Oracle considers default and which do not require environmental variables, as follows:
When in the directory where Oracle client files were unzipped, run these commands:
    cp sdk/include/*.h /usr/include
    cp sqlplus /usr/bin
    cp lib /usr/lib
Also, to be able to install OCI8 PHP module, following symbolic link will need to be created:
A symbolic link will need to be created as follows:
    cd /usr/lib
    ln -s libclntsh.dylib.10.1 libclntsh.dylib
I then installed oci8 for PHP and DBD::oracle for Perl and ran some test files, they work. However, if somebody knows why libraries didn't install with the command, as manual instructs, please answer! Thanks in advance!

  • PHP 4.3.11 Oracle Instant Client  10.1.0.4 and my firewall

I've successfully compiled php with oci8 instant client support.
The web server is in the DMZ and Oracle on a windows machine in my
local net .. I've set up my firewall to allow the communication
betweeen my web server and the oracle machine by freeing the
    standard port 1521.
when I call the ociplogin function I pass as server argument //192.168.10.3:1521/medDB which match my oracle server configuration.
    As result I become
    Warning: ociplogon(): ociopen_server: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
Well I've checked my firewall ad I noticed it blocked connections from
my web server to my oracle on the port 1035.
Today I rebooted the web server .. restarted apache
and on the firewall I had the same blocking
but this time on the port 1044.
Someone knows something about this strange behaviour ?
    thank you in advance

  • Need to download Oracle 10g client - 64 bit

I have to move many of my applications to a new server, and this one is a win2008, 64-bit system.
So... I need to download the oracle 10g client - but 64-bit version, and SQL Plus.
But I can't find it. I found 2 big files under databases for 11g, but I want the client; I don't want to set up a new database system. I just want to install the client so my software can continue to talk to existing databases.

If apps are 32-bit their libraries (e.g. Oracle Client libs) are 32-bit also - regardless if host system is 64-bit or not.

I just want to install the client so my software can continue to talk to existing databases.Use the See All links to find the Database Client media, or direct link (for 11.2, win32)
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win32soft-098987.html
However - simplest way of supplying OCI libraries is by Instant Client.
It's just a few files and not even a real "install", just drop the files in PATH or in same folder as app executable file.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html
(and if you find it's not suitable for your specific apps, then you could always remove and install the traditional Client package)
If you have ODP.Net, Asp.Net or OLE DB apps, then look for the ODAC package with Xcopy Deployment. It builds on Instant Client (and it is included).

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply since I am quite new to BPEl can you elaborate a bit on this .
    What I did was
    1. I created a Async BPEL process in JDeveloper and in the same project I put my servlet code and html part when I deploy it on the server and ascess it the welcome jsp is displayed when I click submit on wecome.jsp it forwards to servlet and there the error originates .
2 If instead I deploy the BPEl process seperately and the try to access the BPEL process using my JDeveloper java code I don't get any error it works fine.
3 I have included config and schema folders in source path . wf_client_config.xml,user-properties.xml and wf-config.xml is also present in the source folder.
4 Along with this the jars needed have been also added.
So when I deploy the BPEL process created in 1 above from Jdeveloper it creates a .ear in j2ee\home\applications and the deploys it .This .ear doesn't has any .class files .
I take bpelclasses.jar from the .jar which is created when I compile the project and put it in the j2ee\home\applib folder and made an entry for it in the server.xml file. After this it is able to get .class files.
If there is any alternate way to do the same thing kindly tell me .
    Thanks
    Pranay
