Oracle 8i Error "ORA-04030"

Hi there!
Can somebody help me on this issue???. I've been getting this error several times this week, but I can't find any solution. I've read many stuff about it, but all of them are about "OS issues".
Does anybody know something different, or at least passed the same situation?.

Dear One
You have not mentioned the os? Unix or Windows.
If unix which flavour.
If unix then you have to tune the kernel paramaters to accmodate the sGA.
As i do not know which flavour you are using otherwise i would have told you the commands.
Minimise the no of process parameters to less number than the current one. and test.
Revert back if not working.

From no sign of 64-bit in the product banner plus VA (address space) 2 GB (close enough), it looks like the server is running as 32-bit process.
With SGA + PGA (target) adding up to nearly 1900 MB, my guess is you are hitting the 2 GB per process limit.
Lower SGA, it should help in the very short term. For longer term: lower resource demands or start planning for migration to 64-bit.

ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00936: missing expression

Hello,
I am required to run "pass-through" Oracle SQL, to extract data from tables into SAS for processing and manipulation. My code (attached) reads and writes (executes) but with zero records to test first. I cannot get past the Prepare Error.
The query is very much like other queries that seem to work, but I cannot get past this prepare error. I have no other access to individauls with adequate knowledge of PL SQL, and as a last stop hoped others in the forum could quickly spot the source of errror.

Hello Again ,
Wish Oracle was a bit more informative. Am using a SAS Institute Product called Enterprise Guide. A "hot fix" was installed to address an issue that the product appears unable to save the latest version of edited code changes (hence " BETWEEN between" remaining even after a prior edit). In any case, with the change, am now receiving this error:
" ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00904: "PHRMCY_CLM_FACT"."LAST_SRVC_DT": invalid identifier". (Log file appears below)
-The error remains, regardless of whether one uses "pass through" code to pass the date range to Oracle (which looks ok from the log output below I believe), or if I hard code the date range into the PL SQL query itself.
-The Prepare error always appears at end of the inner SELECT.
-The Prepare error remains, with or without the GROUP BY clause.
Is there anything else here I am missing? Someone suggested a reserve word - but from other ANSI SQL versions, I do not see that is the case. I have consulted SAS Tech Support and SAS List Serve at University of GA. but nothing definitive from these sources. Have requested facility to be able to run Oracle directly, outside this SAS Institute product - in process.

OK, it looks like there's something else that's hogging your memory on that server. What do you see when you go into Task Manager, then select Processes, and then 'Mem Usage'?

Although this would appear to be high: Max PGA Allocated:1.66GB
What are your settings for pga_aggregate_target, and workarea_size_policy?

ERROR : ORA-04030 -out of process memory when trying to allocate 16396 byte

hi,
i have written a procedure that insert as well as update few table.
But when i am trying to execute the procedure then it throws error:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 16396 bytes something like that.
I don't know why it is?
I am using cursor with bulk collect and forall block to insert and update.

The error message says that you ran out of PGA memory. You are bulk collecting into a variable that resides in PGA memory. So likely you fetched everything from the query into the collection variable at once. You would need at least (number of rows of result set * average number of bytes per row) bytes. And you don't have that amount of bytes apparently.
A solution is to use the limit clause while bulk collecting and set it to a reasonable amount of rows, say 100 or 1000 at most. And use an extra loop while exiting when <collection variable>.count = 0.

Oracle Error: ORA-04030

Hello everyone. We are having production problem and need to fix. If anyone has run into this problem can you please post ASAP we need to resolve...... our shipping is being held up. When we run this specific program we keep on getting:
The exception must either be prevented, caught within the procedure
"DATA_SELECT"
"(FORM)", or declared in the procedure's RAISING clause.
To prevent the exception, note the following:
Database error text........: "ORA-04030: out of process memory when tryin to
allocate 64512 bytes (sort subheap,sort key)"
Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/FTCH/VLPMA ]"
Please check the entries in the system log (Transaction SM21).
You may able to find an interim solution to the problem
in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself,
use the following search criteria:
"DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR" CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DBC
"SDRQCR21" or "SDRQCR21"
"DATA_SELECT"

Restart work processes regularly (Note 101717)
You can release the memory allocated by the Oracle shadow processes by regularly restarting SAP work processes. This is of limited use if you use the automatic PGA administration, since the automatic PGA administration releases memory that is no longer required anyway.

Getting error: ORA-04030: out of process memory with EBS database

Dear experts,
I am getting this error with the EBS 11i database during the running of the system specially in the rush hour of the work day leads to disconnect between the database server and client:

Flashback : Error:ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate

Hi All,
I have executed this query on my db for using flash back features:
select * from flashback_transaction_query where table_owner='USERNAME'
However, it throws the error after being executed for 5 min:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 268 bytes (Logminer LCR c,krvxbpdl)
Please help me in understading the error and provide some links/docs to resolve this.

That's the error description:
What does an ORA-4030 mean?
This error indicates that the oracle server process is unable to allocate more memory from the operating system.This memory consists of the PGA (Program Global Area) and its contents depend upon the server configuration.For dedicated server processes it contains the stack and the UGA (User Global Area) which holds user session data, cursor information and the sort area. In a multithreaded configuration (shared server), the UGA is allocated in the SGA (System Global Area) and will not be responsible for ORA-4030 errors.
The ORA-4030 thus indicates the process needs more memory (stack UGA or PGA) to perform its job.

Hi,
This error is typically associated with the OS being unable to allocate any more memory to a process. It typically manifests itself in 32 bit operating systems, especially Windows, where processes are limited to a maximum 2Gb, but with the way memory is allocated, 1.5Gb tends to be a more realistic limit. With an Oracle instance this means that the total memory requirements, SGA and PGA, should not exceed about 1.5Gb. In Windows, because connection processes also run as threads of the server process, these are also part of the calculation.
The way then to avoid, or at least reduce this error, is to reduce the memory requirements of the database instance. Also, because some operating systems do not release unused process memory very easily, regular bounces of the database may also help avoid the error, provided you have the luxury to do this.
The long term fix to this error would be to upgrade to a 64 bit operating system, where this limit is greatly increased. There is also a feature of 32 bit windows that can be added (forget what its called) that increases the 2Gb limit to 3Gb.

I grow up memory for the sga and pga and i execute the procedure M4MIND.M4PR_ANALIZA_OBJETO without errors, the user M4MIND in this instance has executed this procedure without errors, but when another user try to execute throw the same error,

Not able to Start the oracle db error "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges"

Hi experts,
I have oracle 11g setup on so solaris. i changed the db_cache_size
& processes values and stopped the DB services after that i am not able to start the oracle DB. Listener is running.
when i start the db server its giving the below error(startup.log)

Adding a field to an sql statement in Oracle Reports error ORA-00933

We have been requested to add a field that already exists in the table referred to by the sql statement in Oracle Reports Builder. The report was set up by a consultant about 3 yrs ago and we don't really have much skill in this area. What is happening when I try to modify the SQL statement, either adding a field or deleting a field to the SELECT statement, causes an error message preventing the statement from being saved. The only way out of the error message is to click Cancel. The error message is
ORA-00933:SQL command not properly ended
ORDER BY Program ==> NAME
Even adding or deleting a space anywhere in the SQL statement causes the error (not adding any new fields). A coworker found that if we comment out the ORDER BY, the statement will accept the new field in the SELECT section, however then we lose the order by functionality. I would like to add one additional field before the FROM. Not sure if any additional data are needed. Thank you.

I tried your suggestion. The good thing is that adding the comma allowed me to be able to add a.campus to the select statement, unfortunately, another error message happened.

CASE WHEN : P_group_by = 'PROGRAM THEN a I started over and tried only putting in the comma and get the same message even though I didn't add campus. After that, removed the comma which led to the ORA-00933 error message. So once again, I had to close the file without saving, in order for the report to run at all.
