We have Oracle 9.2.0.1 database running on win 2k server.
At the client end we have 8.0.2 client inst . How do i establish communication between 8.0.2 client and 9i(server databse)?
Through net80 easy config it gives me follwing error?
-12203 - destination not found
12604 - no listener
Awaiting quick help....
Thanks

Hi,
Don't think that Oracle does any real support here. It is just for users collaboration. For quick help on a saturday, I think what you need is a support contract.

  • Oracle 10G and UCCX 5.0 Database Connection return 0 rows on query

Currently I have an issue with UCCX 5.0 and Oracle 10G, we need to access a table on an Oracle10G DB, form IP IVR, so I installed the driver, created the ODBC connection and declared the ODBC, user and password on the Database subsystem (name on UCCX match the ODBC name) and restarted the engine.
Im trying to do simple select statement (SELECT * FROM TABLE) and I'm getting a 0 count once I test it.

    Hi,
I see it has been a while since you posted this question, but I am having exactly the same problem with an Oracle integration and I was wondering if you were able to fix this and how.
Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

  • Can Oracle 7i and 8i be connected from Oracle 9i database

I want to know if i can do the following. That means is it possible in production scenario. If yes then how and will it affect the performance to a great extend.
We are now upgrading the application server to weblogic 10.3 . But this server supports only Oracle 9i and above. But we have two more data server which are Oracle 8i and Oracle 7i. These databases will be upgraded later on but not now. So the problem is i can not connect to these Oracle database versions if i use Weblogic 10.3. So i wanted to know if there is any possibility of connecting the application server to a intermideate Oracle 9i database which will act as a bridge from Application server to Oracle 7i and 8i. Can Oracle 9i connect to Oracle 7i and 8i. If yes then how. You can provide me online references if any.
Thanks in advance. Waiting for your reply.

The connection what you are refering is from a normal pc to Oracle 7i or 8i database. But i want to connect from Oracle 9i to Oracle 8iWhen connecting from one db to another (via a db_link) the 'calling' db is just another client to the 'called' db. if you can connect to 7.x (there was no 7i) with a 9.x sqlplus, then you should be able to connect with a 9.x database. At a previous job, we did something similar to get an app compiled against 8.1 to use a 10.2 database - set up a 9.2 intermediary that had nothing but db_links and synonyms pointing on to the 10g.
However, I wouldn't bet the company on making your scenario work. You really should upgrade your databases first.

  • Oracle 10g and internet connection

I recently installed a program which uses and installed the Oracle 10g database, but cannot run the database while I have an internet connection. If I disable my internet, I can run Oracle and my program. If I am connected to the internet and run the program it pops up this box:
    DATABASE LOGIN FAILED
    +... due to Oracle condition:+
    ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    OK
When I click Ok, it pops up a new box with 2 tabs: one asking for me to:
    Choose a (named database)
This installation stores data in a named Oracle database.
Since you may have several such databases, please select the name of
your desired database from the list below.
Note: If you are connecting to a local, single-user database, it may not have
a name, or its name may not work.  In that case, you would need to choose
    the entry "<<always use default>>".
There is a drop down box with 3 choices for the Database to use for this installation: XE, ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA, and <<always use default>>
    The other tab is:
    Describe Privileged Account
For maintenance purposes, this system also needs the name and password of
a privileged Oracle user account.  It uses this privileged account
only as needed, for various setup and maintenance tasks, such as
o     creating the application's user account,
o     providing it with storage space,
    o     providing backup/restore services,
    o     applying software updates.
Please enter the privileged account's name and password below.
If you do not know the account's name and password, please contact your
    Oracle database administrator (DBA).
And it is asking for a user name and password. The Oracle help said that info should have been displayed somewhere during the Oracle installation process, but being as though I installed another program that did the Oracle, I don't think I ever saw it.
    I think it may matter:
    XP Pro SP 3
    2.4 GHz processor
    3 GB RAM
To summarize; is there a way to run the Oracle database and my internet connection?
Finally, I apologize for likely not providing all you would need to answer my question, I will provide anything else I can if it will help.
    Thanks

Hi, thanks for the quick response.
I went through the steps in the loopback adapter installation link you provided and have added a loopback adapter. When I do the ipconfig/all I get the following for the loopback adapter:

So it appears that is good to go. The issue still persists. Below is system information and Oracle information.

  • Connectivity between Oracle database and client...

    Hi guys,
I was asked to make a connection between oracle client and database via internet so that our clients can access the database from different parts of the country, and the data that is transmitted in the internet does not require security consideration. And I have successfully implemented this.
But later onwards they asked me to structure it in such a way so that clients must be able to select, insert, update and delete data offline, in case there is online connectivity problem.
So my question is, are there any possibilities in oracle to temporarily store data that are available in the oracle database to the client side and then later onwards transfer those datas once the clients are available online. Or are there any other alternative ways...
Additional Information - Client access the database through an application created by VB.
Please do help me on this project.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Asif. You probably should do a cost/risk analysis. Where you are headed might be able to be done (but it will require that the "clients" also have their own copy of the database) but it won't be easy and it certainly won't be cheap, either in initial implementation or in on-going maintenance. The alternative is to take a hard look at your network connections and see if it wouldn't be cheaper/easier to be able to ensure that it is reliable. Remember "the internet" won't break, it is highly redundant. If you have connectivity issues, they will almost certainly be in your own equipment and configurations, so your (your organization) will have the ability to address and fix any issues there.

I'm getting the above error for DB links between Oracle 10.2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. But the same, when configured for MS SQL server 2000 works fine without any issues.
Please advise me to rectify the error. We've been working for the last couple of weeks.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Sunil,
You don't need an Oracle ODBC driver.
The way it works is that in the gateway init<sid>.ora file, in your case initTelemetryDB1.ora, the parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO points to a system DSN. This DSN should then be configured to use an ODBC driver to connect to the non-Oracle database. So, in your setup when you want to access the SQL*Server 2008 database then the DSN should use an ODBC driver that can connect to a SQL*Server 2008 database. If you still use the initTelemetryDB1.ora file for the connection then the TelemetryDB1 DSN should be configured to access the SQL*Server 2008 database.
However, there are a couple of problems with your actual setup -
    - the configuration you have - 10.2 RDBMS on a Sun machine and HSODBC on Windows - is not supported. HSODBC should only be used from a RDBMS that is in the same ORACLE_HOME as HSODBC.
    - 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) and the configuration you want is supported. That is because unlike HSODBC the DG4ODBC gateway can be installed standalone with a RDBMS being installed.
I recommend that you download and install 11.20.2 DG4ODBC on your Windows machine in a new Oracle_home and access that from the 10.2 RDBMS on Sun - which is a supported configuration. But to do this, you will need to apply either the 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to your RDBMS.
There is more information in the following note available on My Oracle Support (MOS) -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
The 11.2.0.2 DG4ODBC can be downloaded from MOS as patch and for the gateways on Windows 32-bit you just need to download -
    p10098816_112020_platform_4of6.zip
However, to check the HSODBC ou need to confirm that the DSN used by HSODBC points to a System DSN configured to access SQL*Server 2008.
    Have a look at -
Note 109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for Windows NT
But remember this is not a supported version or configuration and you should be using Dg4ODBC.

    Mike

  • Connect to different Oracle server and database in PL/SQL code

    Hi,
There are two oracle servers and databese, A and B. I need to read data from database A and insert those data to databse B. Is there anyway I can do it in PL/SQL program?
    Regards,
    Shiva

In a SQL*Plus session, [connect string] is generally a TNS alias (i.e. in the command "connect scott/tiger@orcl", orcl is a TNS alias). I don't know if it is possible in some release to have a fully qualifies TNS entry (i.e. connect scott/tiger@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(...)) ), but it is certainly uncommon. Depending on the version of Oracle, there are various ways to configure a client to resolve a TNS alias, but local naming is the most common, so I'll assume that is what you're using...
If you are trying to query a remote database, you would either have to
    - Create a database link (i.e. CREATE DATABASE LINK db_link_name ...) and refer to the database link name in your SQL statement
    - Embed the full TNS entry in your query (i.e. SELECT * FROM emp@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=( .. .)) )
If you choose to create the database link, one of the things you have to specify is the TNS alias (or the fully qualified TNS entry). If you specify a TNS alias there, you would generally have to ensure that the TNS alias existed in the tnsnames.ora file on the database server where the database link is created.

  • Connect Oracle 10g and OWB to SQL Server 2005 in Windows XP

I am unable to create a working connection between Oracle 10g and a SQL Server database. I have followed the instructions in several sources, but when I attempt to connect to the MSSQL database through SQL Plus or SQL Developer, I get the ORA-03135 error. I set up a non-Oracle location in OWB and the connection test was successful but the metadata would not import. Creating an Oracle location with the same parameters produced the ORA-03135 error.
In TNSNAMES.ORA I placed the following definition:
    MSSQL =
    (DESCRIPTION =

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = MSSQL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2)
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
The inimssql.ora file contains the following:

    HS_DB_NAME = MSSQL
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
    HS_FDS_TRACE_FILE_NAME = c:\hs_fds_mssql.log
    What is missing?

could be a copy paste issue, but please make sure the tnsnames.ora has at least on space in from of each line after the alias.
In addition what is the listener status? Please post the output of lsnrctl status <listener name>.

I tried "sudo yum install openssh" and "sudo yum install emacs" and "sudo service sshd status" and none of these worked (it could not find these packages). I could not get apt-get or app-get or aptget to work either. I was hoping that "uname -a" would tell me if this was fedora or debian or something else but no luck. What command do I use to learn the distro name?
How do I make ifconfig tell me what the ip address so I can use "scp" and "ssh" to get into the box? Ok, /sbin/ifconfig works and I see there is only a loopback address. Ack! How do I create a socket so I can ssh into this little beastie?
How do I disable the firewall or (better yet) punch holes in it so I get use JDBC and ssh, scp and samba from windows 7?
I tried firing up the SQL Developer 3.1 and getting a test connection with username and password of "oracle" with no luck. How do I get a test connection to work?
How do I determine if the database is running? If not, how do I start it and stop it and restart it?
    Thanks
    Siegfried

There is no "oracle" account native to the database itself. This is just the default account that owns the application. Log on as oracle/oracle to the OS. (OEL) You can change the passwords of the sys and system account by setting your $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID. Default SID is orcl on a database install. Also set a path to the oracle binaries in the form of $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    Then sqlplus / as sysdba
Change passwords of sys and system using the following example.
    ALTER USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY [password];
    ALTER USER SYSTEM IDENTIFIED BY [password];
The supplied appliance runs oracle enterpirse linux. Not debain or fedora.
    Why do you need "emacs"?
I haven't personally load this appliance with Virtual Box but there has to be a readme file somewhere that details all the passwords and etc.

  • How to set connection between oracle forms and DB?

    I have installed win xp,
    oracle database 10g in c drive ,
oracle forms and reports 10g in d drive ,
how do i set the connection between forms and DB ?
i know its an old question but i am very new to this !
    thanks in advance.

You didn't mention the versions or whether you are using Developer Suite or Application Server. I guess it really doesn't matter in this case, but please provide complete information in the future.
In order to connect the F/R home to a db you will need to make the appropriate configuration entries in tnsnames.ora found in the F/R home (\NETWORK\ADMIN). The entry you add will be similar to the one found in the tnsnames.ora for the db which is found in a similar directory in the db home. The entry will look something like this:
    ORCL =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myMachine)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = myMachine)
      )
