Oracle CPU question with 11.5.10 CU2

Just a general question. First time trying to apply an Oracle CPU and in this case applying the July 2010 CPU to our Test E-biz 11.5.10 CU2 RUP7 install.
My configuration is RH Linux ES 4.8 with a 10.2.0.4 database server running admin, db and CCM services and then an app server running forms and web services.
I'm referring to "Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 11i and 12 Critical Patch Update Knowledge Document (July 2010) [ID 986534.1]" and then the subsequent articles that follow that.
My questions are:
Q1. My database level is currently 10.2.0.4. It would appear my steps are first update Opatch (no problem there).
Then apply 9032412.
Then it looks like I apply either CPU Patch 9655017, or PSU Patch 9654991.
But PSU 9654991 REQUIRES PRE-REQUISITE 10.2.0.4.4 so I can't apply that right?
I will apply 9655017 instead and will that get me to 10.2.0.4.5?
Q2. My configuration is DB Tier with CCM and an app Tier running forms, reports as mentioned.
Do I have to worry about the Fusion Middle-ware stuff?
Q3. Patches to apply to E-Business Suite.
Looks like 9578142 applies to my environment.
Check the pre-reqs to ensure I have anything that needs to be applied first.
Then depending on what modules we use or have installed (does it make a difference) I'll apply subsequent patches say for 'Financials'.
Q3. Anything else I need to consider? We are patching Test first and when done if it's all good we'll schedule Prod.
I realize this is a pretty generic question. My main uncertainty is on the db 10.2.0.4 patch and if the 965517 will get me to 102045 or not.
Update - My first patch is giving me the OUI-67620 superset error which I believe is telling me the new patch contains all the fixes from the existing patch so ok to proceed. Right?
ApplySession adding interim patch '9032412' to inventory
Verifying the update...
Inventory check OK: Patch ID 9032412 is registered in Oracle Home inventory with proper meta-data.
Files check OK: Files from Patch ID 9032412 are present in Oracle Home.
The local system has been patched and can be restarted.

    Hello,
question regarding the Oracle CPU Oct 2001 pach on oracle 10g 10.2.0.5 version on windows 32 bit. in the readme instructios there is step for post installation for database instances to add an event to fix the bug 8298501 to the init.ora file. is this to RAC systems or any single database sevvers? could any one clarify this please? do we have to add this event to the init.ora file at all?
    Please shed some lignt....
    Thanks a lot...

If there are no conditions stated in the README, I would assume this would apply both single instance and RAC installations.

  • How Oracle to deal with the data lose?-----QNo.104

In incomplete recovery, some data will be lost. How Oracle to deal with it?
For example, at 9:00am, you find that it is a mistake to drop a user(you dropped it at 8:30am). But other users' transactions are in progress. A lot of data is input between 8:30 and 9:00. If decide to make a incomplete recovery, does this means all the data input between 8:30 and 9:00 will be lost?

I dont think that you would loose any data.
The other workaround for this issue would be,
I would clone this on other server just before the user dropped, take the export and then import the user in the production.
    Is this satisfy your question?

  • Questions with Third-Party Access Management Systems

    I was reading: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/idmanage.1012/b14078/tpsso.htm#i1009152
And few questions raised in my head:
1st: On the IPASAuthInterface implementation we're told to fetch a header that was set by the third party server. Well, if we do a redirect from that server the header does not reach the destination, what would look like the code on the client?
2nd After oracle fetches the info needed, will it then generate the SSO_ID cookie put on the response? Where does it redirects the user afterwards?
3rd Will this overwrite the convetional way of authentication within Oracle AS?
    Best Regards

I am also trying Oracle EBS / Oracle SSO integration with IBM TAM and facing the same problem.
Where as IBM trace shows that user-id has been passed to backend but it never reaches the custom authentication file in http header.
But it works if I use harcoded userId in custom authentication module!
What I have noticed is, Once TAM passes the user id and before it reaches the custom java code, there is one page is being displayed (index.html) this page is autogenerated thru autoconfig utility.
I think http header reaches till this page but this html pade does not f/w the http header to custom java file.
I dont know how to modify this auto generated index.html!
    Also this file has:
    <META http-equiv=REFRESH content="1; URL=https://ORACLE_EBS_HOST:443/OA_HTML/AppsLogin">
this tag does a auto refresh and send the request.
    What you guys think?

  • Oracle Designer 10g With Oracle 11g DB possible

    Hi,
    Please clarify my below query,
we are currently using oracle designer 10g and deploying the components to production DB which is in oracle 9i, We are planning to migrate to oracle supported version 11g DB, since oracle designer 11g is not there we would be sticking to oracle 10g itself, Now my question is, will we be having issues or road blocks with this combination Oracle designer 10g and Oracle 11g DB???

Don't have a doc id. You have to go to the certication tab in My Oracle Support. Search for Oracle Designer 10.1.2.6.0 there you will find the three supported database version.

Colleagues of mine have imported a designer repository inside 11gR2 and where not able to change objects inside the repository. When they imported the same designer dump inside an 11gR1 database it worked fine.
In the other post (Re: 11G compatibility it is also written that there are some major bugs and those bugs will not be fixed.

  • Oracle Discoverer 9i with 11g R2 Database

    Hi everyone,
Currently our company is still using Oracle Discoverer 9i with Oracle 10g. It is working very fine without any problem. My question is, if we were to upgrade the Database from 10g to 11g R2, is it "technically" possible to continue using Oracle Discoverer 9i? We understands that Oracle Discoverer 9i is de-supported product but actually it is working fine with our current Database 10g.
If Oracle 11g R2 can be connected to Oracle Discoverer 9i, we would very much prefer to continue using Oracle Discoverer 9i even though it is de-supported.
Appreciate if someone can enlighten us.
    Thanks and rgds,
    Zack

    Dear Srini,
Thank you very much for the advise. However, the problem here is my company will not upgrade to 11g if Discoverer 9i is not working. This is because they find so troublesome to re-create all the existing reports which is more than thousands of report...;-(.
Really appreciate the feedback from someone who has experience using oracle Discoverer 9i with 11gR2.
    Thanks and rgds,

  • Oracle CPU Jan 2009 cause performance issue

I did installed Oracle CPU Jan 2009 on HP-UX machine. But once the installation is completed, users complaint saying that it takes more than 1 minutes to open a new ticket on that application. With this, it cause a backlog processess increase tremendously.
Will the CPU Jan 2009 patch cause any of the network performance issue:

I believe the latest CPU Patch for Oracle 10.2.0.3 on HP is CPU Jan 2009 only.Don't you think your database should be on 10.2.0.4?
Anyways, do you have any benchmark statspack/AWR report? Can you compare that with the latest one? Do you see any difference?

  • Combination: oracle 9i server with Oracle 10g client??

Hello, we are running R/3 4.6C on Windows cluster system (node1-DB instance and node2-Central instance) and on Oracle 9i server. We also have several dialog instances running Oracle client 9i. Hardware and software (sap, oracle, windows) - everything is 32bit.
We are replacing those several old application servers (=dialog instances) with new X86_64 hardware and Windows 64 bit + Oracle client 64 bit. The question is: is it possible (and also supported) to install Oracle client 10g 64bit on new application servers? We are not planning to upgrade DB server to Oracle 10g yet!! So, can we run DB server on oracle 9i 32bit and oracle client 10g 64bit on applicaton servers??
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards, Igor

    Hello,
    To Andreas:
    A little puntualization:
the oracle client software version depends on the sap version and not on the oracle server version...as far as i remember, oracle client 10 is either supported for sap kernel 7.00 or the brtools 7.00, which means that you cannot use oracle client 10 with sap kernel 46D_EXT
This is correct for <i>UNIX</i> systems, not for windows.
On windows the client to be used is the same version as the RDBMS.
I think this also answers Igor question.
If you RDBMS software is 9i then you have to use the client 9i

  • Architecture Question with WebLogic

WE have started a new project using WebLogic (in fact we will do that very
soon). Since we are new to WebLogic, we are questioning the following
              tradeoff:
              About the system:
The end system will be a web-based application providing secure access to
its web users. The business logics (combination of some session and entity
beans) store data in Oracle. The system is very report intensive, meaning in
most of the time, people using it to get some report. The system also have a
specific web interface to specific user for administration purpose. The
admin ultimately create, update, remove data stored in Oracle.
Questions 1 -- Servlets, JSP, and use of RMI:
To generate the report, we decide to use WebLogic Servlet with JSP. There
are 40 different reports, and each is mapped to one servlets. There will be
a servlet manager to start other servlets, the ones that actually using the
JSP to dynamically generating the HTML pages (the report).
The Servlets themselves have to interface with the business logic objects
using RMI. They have to do that since we don't want to re-implement the
business logic in the Servlet again. The Business logic (Java Beans)
executes on separate NT computer. Is this is a good architecture?
              Question 2 -- Applet/application and RMI:
The system needs to interact with some admin users. To do that, the business
logic portion (the session and entity Beans) provide remote interfaces to
the applets/application. With Applet, Of course we can embed them in the
HTML pages.Note that the business logic Beans are the ones also used by the
              servlets.
Anyone see any problem with this approach? Is there any other alternative?
Remember this approach has to be worry about synchronization between the
report pages IF data is changed through applet/application by some
administrator? This is something that we like to avoid! Anyone has a better
              alternative architecture or any suggestion?
              Thanks,
              Mansour

    Manish,
              See below...
              >
              >WE have started a new project using WebLogic (in fact we will do that very
              >soon). Since we are new to WebLogic, we are questioning the following

So currently, you're supporting two different clients - one typically
generating reports using a browser-based interface (HTTP/HTML) and the
other a little more complex which may need the functionality of an
              applet or application.
Servlets/JSPs should definitely be used to bridge the gap between your
browser-based clients and your application's components. How dynamic
is the underlying data used to generate the reports? Are the majority
of reports static or based on adhoc queries? Sounds like they may be
fairly static. If so, consider caching the reports somehow to prevent
database hits. Although, consider the fact that the database caches
data a lot better than we can - typically. I would create a few test
              cases to validate an approach.
              >Questions 1 -- Servlets, JSP, and use of RMI:

Sounds like you guys have decided on using the second access model for
JSPs and this certainly provides the most flexibility. Good decision.
I'm assuming you really mean your business components are EJBs and not
straight-up RMI objects as your statement may be interpreted?!?!?!
EJBs are the correct choice for a lot of reasons.
              >Question 2 -- Applet/application and RMI:

Using servlets to provide an interface to clients who choose to speak
HTTP to your application is a good approach. For browser-based clients
its a must and you may easily use the same servlets in your
applets/applications as well. However, do consider the fact that your
applets/applications may speak T3 to WL. My only concern with the
latter approach is duplication of logic in the client itself and you
will certainly want to eliminate this. Leveraging the servlets will
              certainly be a benefit.
              >Remember this approach has to be worry about synchronization between the

Consider a report manager layer that will be responsible for ensuring
the latest report is potentially cached and available or is
responsible for generating the report (by calling the servlet or bean
              or whatever...).
Again, if the underlying data is fairly dynamic, then I would tend to
generate the reports each time and rely on the database to cache data,
optimize queries, handle synchronization issues... rather than
attempting to cache reports in WL. If the data is fairly static
though, developing a report manager layer that can cache reports...
              may be worth while.

  • CPU Issues with music production. LOGIC 8

    CPU Issues with music production.
Hey guys. I bet this sort of question has been asked so many times, but i really have spent a long time searching google to get an answer. I have had no luck. I found many things on the subject, but nothing about this exact situation.
Okay, I have a Macbook 4.1 which has 2gb of ram, 2.1 GHz Intel core 2 duo processor, and a 111 gb HD with a rpm of 5400.
I have been having major CPU overloads whilst using Logic 8, And it is much worse when using Pro Tools 7.2 M-Powered.
Now, im not that knowledgeable with computer stuff, but I have a plan.
Im about to upgrade my ram to 4gb, and im getting a new hard drive that will be 320 gb and will be 7200 rpm and 16gb cache (whatever that means).
I believe that having a hard drive at 7200 rpm is pretty essential for music programs like these.
Now hopefully this will help me with the CPU, as i have found out I cant upgrade the processor as its soldered on.
Will this machine be able to handle Logic Pro 8 after the mod??
The real question i guess is: Is a "2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" processor enough to happily run logic 8?
P.S I will not be recording audio. I use the synths etc included.
    Thanks in advance guys.

    Alexander Farrar wrote:

    111Gigs is a small disk
How much free space in your system disk?
when a disk contain files from over than 80% and only about 20% is free the speed of the hard drive goes down... some disk can loose more than 50% of fast addressing speed
Leopard require at least 50GB free space for run without problem!
for better performance up to 1/3 of the disk size should be required...
I have been having major CPU overloads whilst using Logic 8, And it is much worse when using Pro Tools 7.2 M-Powered.
you use Logic with a Digidesign Drivers?
try to disconnect the Digi device and use Internal Audio of your Mac...
maybe only that can solve your issue.

    buying a 320GB at 7200?
    I suggest you a 500GB at 5400 RPM
the 7200 Hard drive are not so good for stay inside Macbook chassis
the working temperature in a 7200 RPM disk should be cause slower speed than a more cool/fresh 5400 RPM
The temperature rise up if disk is full over than 1/3 of its capabilities...
(this rules are related with Disk performance but can be affected also CPU power in the real time processing because the system run on the same disk)
The hard drive temperature is strictly related with disk speed performance
and logic use a lot of streaming from to disc access for the EXS24 virtual memory and other Instruments and Synths...
*this can be the primary cause of CPU spikes*
I believe that having a hard drive at 7200 rpm is pretty essential for music programs like these.
    I suggest a 500GB 5400 RPM!

How do I reset my apple id security question with out a rescue email?

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

in some articles i read that hardware inventory runs about minutes up to more hours but some machines runs longer, someone more as 1 day.
here an example of mine PC:
at 8:07 i started Hardware Inventory Cycle, in the InventoryAgent.log i can see that some Collection Namespace are captured.
after a few minutes there stopped and does nothing round about 5.9 hours or better, after 21436.097 Seconds.
For any hints i am grateful. :)

Looks like something in one or both of those wmi queries.  it goes from 8:10:03 to 14:06:43 right around there.  6 hours to do that...
try running those queries from wbemtest manually; and see which one just never finishes.

  • Database link from Oracle to MySQL with the use of unixODBC

    Hi,
    I have 2 servers.
    Server A:
    - CentOS_5.1 x386
    - MySQL 5.1
    - unixODBC
    - mysql-connector-odbc
    Server B:
    - CentOS_5.1 x86_64
    - Oracle 11g
    - unixODBC
    - mysql-connector-odbc
I've configured ODBC, so I am able to do "isql <DSN> oracle oracle -v" sucessfully with "root" and "oracle" user on Oracle server. I've configured listener.ora and tnsnames.ora
I added below lines to listener.ora
    SID_LIST_LISTENER=
    (SID_LIST=
    (SID_DESC=
    (SID_NAME=mysqlware)
    (ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1)
    (PROGRAM=dg4odbc)
    (ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/hs/lib:/usr/lib64/:$ORACLE_HOME/lib)
    and lines below to tnsnames.ora
    mysqlware=
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=TCP)
    (HOST=<server's FQDN>)
    (PORT=1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA=
    (SID=mysqlware))
    (HS=OK))
    The content of $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initmysqlware.ora is
    # This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
    # needed for the Database Gateway for ODBC
    # HS init parameters
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = mysqlware
    HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /usr/lib64/libmyodbc3.so
    # ODBC specific environment variables
    set ODBCINI=/home/oracle/.odbc.ini
    # Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
    set <envvar>=<value>
    tnsping mysqlware returns.....
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION= (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=TCP) (HOST=<server's FQDN>)) (PORT=1521)) (CONNECT_DATA= (SID=mysqlware)) (HS=OK))
    OK (10 msec)
when I login to oracle and create PUBLIC DATABASE LINK with command....
create public database link link2mysqlware connect to
    2 "oracle" identified by "oracle" using 'mysqlware';
    Database link created.
    THIS IS WHAT I GET.....
    SQL> select * from "emp"@link2mysqlware;
    select * from "emp"@link2mysqlware
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from LINK2MYSQLWARE
There is "emp" table in MySQL, from where I can even select with the use of isql command and from this Oracle server.
I would really appreciate some help here.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tomaz Bracic

    Evening Ed,
I changed to debug and repeated the select ....... The output below is for one select that I did. (select * from "emp"@link1)
