Oracle Database Columns to PDF

Hi
I would like to select some columns from the oracle data base using the select statement and upload into the pdf file. But in Oracle database my columns name are like SALES_FORECAST,FORECAST_ACCURACY ,....... I dont want use the same names but i would like to give the descriptions like Sales Forecast, Forecast Accuracy,.....
Where can I give these description for the columns .
My BLT is like this 1. PDF actions
2. SQL Query
3.PDF Table.

Hi Madhu,
if you want to use spaces for your PDF table columns, you can use the following method.
In your BLS, write a MII query to retrieve the values from your DB. Create a MII XML output document with all columns you want to use in your PDF. Here you can use spaces in your columns names that will be displayed in the PDF table.
Then use a repeater action to run through all output rows of your query. Use a "Row" action from the MII XML Output to add all the query rows to your XML Output document. Finally, use the XML Output document as source for your PDF table.
This way you can use the column names you like.

Using Stored Proecdure is one option.Write a stored procedure that takes the rest of the column values as inputs and then uses the sequencne plus these values to insert data into the datbase.
Can you provide an example of how the insert query with the Call to the Sequence looks so that a standard insert option can also be looked into?

The file is in ZIP format and it is stored in BLOB databse column . The contents of file is in binary format .

How to load PDF files into oracle database and display them in APEX

Hi All,
We have a requirement for loading the Loading PDF files (lots of PDf files) to the oracle database and then display the PDF files in the Oracel APEX report.
So that User can view the PDF files. Our current APEX verison is 3.2..
Please let me know how to implement it and where to find the sample application!

We need to load a lot of PDfs (history + current).
I have a questions about the SQL loader. I am trying to insert a pdf file into a table by following the oracle loading sample:

This file contains the data to be loaded into each row of the table, articles_formatted.
Each line contains a comma separated list of the fields to be loaded in articles_formatted. The last field of every line names the file to be loaded in to the text column:

But i don't know to where should I put my pdf file on the server.
for example:

I try my local path, it didn't work. like c:\temp.
then I loaded teh PDf file into our server(/findev20/olmtest/orafin/11.5.7/olmtestcomn/temp) , and In my data file. I put the path
1, pdf_emp1,../findev20/olmtest/orafin/11.5.7/olmtestcomn/temp
but I got the error: the system can not find the file specified.
Where should I put the PDf files on the server and how to specify the path in the data file?

How to access a PDF file from Oracle DATABASE SERVER

I have some pdf files in "\home2\docs" directory in Oracle database server 10g. (OS is Linux) I want to access those pdf files from my client system through Oracle Forms. How is it possible?

Initially i tried to access pdf file from database server. I didn't get any solution for that. So I copied all my pdf files to Application server which is in Linux environment at "/home2/docs" directory.
I gave the following command for accessing the pdf files kept in Lnux Application Server from Oracle 10g forms in a button press trigger.
web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/home2/docs/test.pdf');
It says "page cannot be found"
So I copied one of the pdf file named "test.pdf" to "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" in Linux Application Server . Then the following command
web.show_document('http://192.168.1.53:7779/forms90/java/test.pdf');
has opened the the pdf file in browser.
192.168.1.53 is my Linux Application Server IP. and 7779 is the port.
Actually we have lacs of pdf files. So i cannot keep all the pdf files in "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/java" directory in Linux Application Server. And also all the pdf files not in the same directory , "/home2/docs" some of the pdf files r in the subdirectories of "/home2/docs/" like /home2/docs/sub1, /home2/docs/sub2, /home2/docs/sub3 etc.
Then how to configure my "/oracle/oas10g/IasHome/forms90/server/forms90.conf" file for retrieving pdf files from "/home2/docs/" and its subdirectories. Is Anything other than this, required for solving my problems.
Now My PDF files r in LINUX APPLICATION SERVER not in database server.
Please help!! It is VERY URGENT!!!

PDF Files in Oracle Database

First of all Hi and Thanks to All Respected Gurus of this forum for providing non-stop services to resolve problems on world-wide level.
I am using Oracle Database 11g-R1 with Oracle Application Express 4.1.
My clients (end-users) have the access to upload PDF files into database via an application built-in Oracle Application Express.
Suddenly ".dmp" size has been increased rapidly from 360 MB to 2.7 Gb and all it happened due to uploading of PDF Files.
I want to know is it alarming for Oracle Database? Because users have lot-of files to upload, so I am in doubt that will Oracle Database Services / Performance will be disturbed by increasing of database size or Oracle Database Server could be crashed?

Performance may be impacted.
Backup time would increase.
Backup space (Disk / Tape) requirements would increase.
There shouldn't be a "crash" of the database
Since you are running 11gR1, I presume that you are not running the Express Edition.

We were able to do the same thing with Oracle Application Server and Oracle WebLogic Server. I cannot remember how different the processes were, but it seems like they were very similar. I am going to give you the instructions on how we implemented a "Read PDF" procedure on the WebLogic Server. If you are still on the Application Server you may have to do some Google searches, but it all boils down to the mod_plsql DAD Configuration file.
Our PDF was located in a table with the following structure:

/Basically, you are passing in one parameter and that is the primary key for your table. You are selecting the pdf stored in a BLOB for that primary key. The commands below that allow the pdf to open up so you can view it – we got this off some search we did a few years ago.
Now, you need to add logic to your Oracle Form that will call the procedure above, but the URL is based on the dads.conf file that we will set up below… Anyway, we created a button on the form module with a label of "View". In the WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger the logic looks like this:

For WebLogic, you can either go through Enterprise Manager (directions below) or update the dads.conf file on the filesystem directly (if you update the dads.conf file directly then skip to step 4 and ignore step 5):
1.     Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
2.     Oracle HTTP Server (pull-down) – Administration – Advance Configuration
3.     Select File – dads.conf
4.     Add something similar:

</Location>You are adding the <Location> section to your dads.conf file. The "finddadgen" is the name that you will reference in a change you fill make to your Oracle Form. The "financial" is the Schema, the "sdo_3#d1" is the password for that Schema, the "ffindb" is the database that the stored procedure is located on, and the "read_pdf" is a stored procedure you will have to create in order to read the pdf.
5.     Press the "Apply" Button
6.     Obfuscate the DAD password by running the dadTool.pl script located in $ORACLE_HOME/bin (This was done on Unix on our server with the following commands):

$> cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
$> perl dadTool.pl -f /u01/app/oracle/middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/mod_plsql/dads.conf
7.     Restart the Oracle HTTP Server using Fusion Middleware Control:
Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Shutdown
Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Start Up
If you followed the instructions above, you should have created a stored procedure, added logic to your Oracle form to reference that stored procedure, and created an entry in the dads.conf file. Once you move the form onto the server and you restart the HTTP Service, you should be able to view a pdf that is stored in a table directly from your Oracle Form.

Ideally you would do the hashing of the password inside the client side application so only the Hashed value goes over the network, but the above demonstrates the principle of using hashes to store passwords. Because it's a one way algorithm, only a brute force method can be used to try and determine the original password. There is no way to directly un-hash the value. To check for a valid login, we don't retrieve the password and try to unhash it to compare against what the user has supplied, we actually take what the user has supplied and hash that in the same way and then compare the hashes.
The point of including the username or some other data in the hashing process means that if two users have the same password, they will still have different hash values, so it won't be apparent they are the same passwords. In my example, the point of putting another character between the concatenation of username and password is in case the username and password together would give the same result e.g.
If we had one user "Fred" with password "Fr3ddy" then just concatenating the strings would give "FredFr3ddy".
If we had another user "FredF" and he happened to choose a password "r3ddy" then just concatenating those would also give "FredFr3ddy"
by introducing a known breaking character they would be different e.g. "Fred!Fr3ddy" and "FredF!r3ddy" and hence give different hash values.
That's the basics of how passwords are stored for security.
It would take a lot of processing power and brute force methods just to determine a single password for a single user when using hashing methods of security.
With encryption, a brute force method could be used to find the decryption key, and once found that could be used to decrypt ALL the encyrpted data, hence it is less secure, especially when some clever person will no doubt have written the key down somewhere so they don't forget it. With hashing there's no key to write down.

Best practice idea;PDF forms to Oracle Database idea?

Working on a check list type of form
Most of the items are "Compliant," "Non Compliant," "Not applicable."
So with three check boxes all labeled "item2" I get the behavior that I want. Specifically there are three options but only one is allowed.
Presently the plan is to fill in the document, save, and print and/or email. So far so good.
BUT...
In the long haul it would be nice that the data go via email in some format to populate an Oracle database.
Question:
What type of logic needs to be attached (and where) such that "For 'item2' the one and only one choice from a universe of 3 is [answer]
I guessing Javascript (not well versed in this yet) but is there something simplier?

A question with three choices. Only one answer.
To have the checkboxes mutually exclusive I have given them a name which is identical.
This gives me the visual behavior I need.
The project will evolve next year to pushing the value to a back end database. Presently if I give each choice a unique name in order to record the answer then the mutual exclusivity breaks
I hail as an Authorware developer. From this perspective I'd do a "If then else" conditional statement for each choice.
So in the PDF realm I think it is some type of script that is needed.
