Oracle developer suite connectivity

I installed oracle 9.0.2 developer suite and can read tables from 9.2. Oracle forms compliles but won't run. It tries to connect to 8888 on the internet and hangs. I want it to connect to my local X-Pro machine and that doesn't work. It wants an HTTP port 8888 which is already defined in listener.ora. What is missing - thanks!!

Oracle Developer Suite Applications Can't connect to Oracle 8i database

Hello,
I have Oracle 8i installed on my PC.
Now I have installed Oracle Developer Suite on it.
During the installation it never asked for a Oracle home directory. It may be detecting the same.
It has created separate menus and configuration files like tnsnames.ora for this installation. The SQL * Plus version is also different, which is 10.1.0.4.2.
Now when I try to connect using usual scott/tiger authentication it gives error
ORA-12560: TNS: Protocol adapter error.
Even after correcting the tnsnames.ora file, which is installed by DS with proper service name, the problem persists.
Please help.

I have uninstalled Oracle 8i.
Removed all the services from Windows services by deleting corresponding registry entries and deleted the Oracle folder.
I have reinstalled Oracle 8i, this time i changed the name of global database to oracledb.
I channged the tnsnames.ora file from DevSuite appropriately as:

How to connect Oracle Form Builder - Oracle Developer Suite 10g - Windows 7

Hi brothers and sisters,
Hope all you are fine. I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows 7 successfully and it is working properly. But when I connect to Oracle Form Builder using Connect window asking:
a. User Name
b. Password
c. Database
a message box appear: 'ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified'
I verify my Connect String with: 'SELECT * FROM v$database', but the problem remain the same.
Please help me how can I connect to Oracle Form Builder.

Note:- your Database should be Up if its not Up it will through the same error so plz startup your database first.

How to make Oracle Developer Suite use different Oracle client version

I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4) on Win7 32bit
When I run Oracle Forms or Oracle Reports or any DB tool (like SQL Navigator or PL/SQL Developer) and trying to connect to remote Oracle DB 10g (10.2.0.5.0) I get an error ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION.
Then I've installed Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.4.0 and made DB tools use this client and error was gone, but I still get that error using Forms and Reports.
So my qustion is, can I make Oracle Forms and Reports use any other Oracle Client but that was installed with Oracle Developer Suite? Or any other suggestions are welcome how to fix connection issue in Forms and Reports?
I have read many threads and some suggested to set NLS_LANG. Done that, but it didn't help :(

The better question is why are you trying to use an obsolete Oracle product on such a new OS and expecting it to work properly? Are you also using MS Office 95 on this machine? Attempting to hack a solution is fine if you are just learning to use a product or just playing around. However, I would never recommend attempting to do what you are doing.
Oracle Forms 9.x was desupported years ago, long before Windows 7 was released. Trying to use it in this manner is risky at best and not something that should be done in a professional environment. If you are a student or just home user trying to learn on your own, I would recommend that you use a virtualization product like Oracle Virtual Box and create a vm of an older OS. For example XP, then install on that platform. If you are a licensed user of Win 7 Pro or higher, I believe Microsoft is still giving away (for free) "XP Mode". Details here:

Download Oracle Developer Suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2) for Microsoft Windows

I unable to download Oracle Developer Suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2) for Microsoft Windows from the OTN website. The download starts from here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ids/htdocs/101202winsoft.html
There are two files. The second file; ds_windows_x86_101202_disk2.zip downloads fine. The first file; ds_windows_x86_101202_disk1.zip stops at 46Mb with the message "connection reset by server".
When downloading using getright as suggested on the FAQ the connection has to resume at 46Mb. Using segmented downloading in getright I have been able to download 636.92MB of the 640MB file. The getright download window shows connected; waiting for reply but I am unable to get the last few Meg.
Any ideas how to complete the download? Has anyone else completed it successfully?

I guess, it is a problem with your network.
Yesterday I have downloaded both the files and installed successfully. The first file took around 20 minutes and secod file took nearly 10 minutes to download.
Are you using office network? You can try downloading at home with DSL.

hello friends i have problem in installation of oracle developer suit10g. I have downloaded windows ver of it from oracle site it came in 2 parts. i want to know weather i can install that ver to run a standalone database..
when i have installed that ver of oracle on windows xp it data base is not connection it says tns protocol adapter error... can some one tell me does oracle developer suit 10g needs some data base also to be installed to run forms and reports like oracle 10g express database..etc...

I believe they need to be in separate folders.
I extracted them into separate folders, then ran setup.exe from disk 1. It will ask you for the location of disk 2, enter that path and away it went.

Oracle DB 10.1.0.4 Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2

After installing the Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on my local PC I am no longer able to connect to our enterprise db using SQLPlus 10.2.0.1.0.
While connecting I get the following error:

Am I able to use 10.2 utilities on a 10.1 DB?

I already installed a package of Oracle Developer Suite in my pc.
During installing progress, it does not require me to setup user name and passowrd, but it ask me about username, password and Connect String when I use Oracle Designer or other tools in the package.
Does anyone know what default username, password and the string is to login ?
Beside that, how to reset the default username, password following to my option.

It seems OP has NO database at all,neither local nor remote. And 'installed on PC' looks like homework,no remote access to databases. So a local database has to be installed, the '2 Day DBA' tutorial may help:

Hi I m in learning phase of oracle and m trying to installing oracle development suite on windows XP.

How to install Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have windows 7 (64-bit) installed on my laptop. I want to install Oracle developer suite 10g R2 on this machine but when I run the Oracle Universal Installer, it gives me error stating "operating system version: must be 5.0, 5.1, 5.2. Actual 6.1 Failed<<<<

Can anyone please help me to solve this problem.

Unable to install Oracle Developer Suite 10 on SuSe Linux 11.0

The only serious flaw I can see in the config is that I'm using libstd++ 4.3 instead of the requested 3.2.2 which 'should' be acceptable as it's a newer version - can anyone help please? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice anyone can offer.

Problems installing Oracle Developer Suite 10g in windows 7

Hi Experts;
I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g in windows XP, but now I change to windows 7, 64 bits, I was trying to install this product and I'm having a lot of problems, apparently this product is not compatible with windows 7.
My question is, is there any product, like Oracle Developer Suite 10g for windows 7? I was looking for in the Oracle page, and I couldn't see anything, may be the name is diferent.

First off, Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) 10g is no longer supported so Oracle has discontinued improving the product. While ODS is not certified by Oracle for use on Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), you can install and use on Windows 7 (32/64 bit). This is a commonly asked question so a search of the forum would have given you several solutions.
The limitations of the Oracle installer are:
1. You must have Administrator rights to install.
2. Windows 7 is not a supported version (it's version 6 and it is looking for version 5), so the installer exits.
3. It's unable to recognize Windows Managed virtual memory.
To get around these limitations you must do the following:
1. Modify your Virtual Memory settings and define a specific Min and Max amount. Look at this MS article if you need help making this change: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory
2. You must run the Oracle installer in compatibility mode for Windows XP. To do this,
- Right-click on the setup.exe and select the Compatibility tab and click "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP2"
3. While still in the properties and the compatibility tab, select the option, "Run as Administrator" and click OK.
Now run the Oracle setup.exe and your installation should succeed.

Installation of an Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows XP doesnt work

Hello.
I try to instal Oracle Developer Suite 10g on Windows XP. I run setup.exe from DISK1 directory. Universal installer starts and Welcome screen appears. I click "Next" to "Specify file locations" screen. But when I choose Source Path and Destination Name and Path and I click "Next" again, nothing happens. In installation log I can see strange error message. You can see it in part of log bellow:

Can anybody help me? I am very confused about this error message.

Are you logged in as an administrator?
I wouldn't install in Program Files anyway. I'm not sure, but I have a gut feeling that Oracle doesn't like spaces in file and directory names. Install in C:\Oracle directory.
