Oracle Forms 11.1.2.0 on Win 7 64-bit JVM bits error
Trying to install Oracle Forms 11.1.2.0 on Win 7 64-bit and keep getting INST-07407: Unable to detect machine platform or JVM Bits.
I read somewhere where having spaces in the JDK install path causes problems so I changed the path to c:\oracle\java instead of C:\Program Files\java\jdk1.6.0_24. I do have a 64-bit JDK installed. What else could be causing this error message? Opening an Oracle service request has been zero help - hoping for help here. I have set JAVA_HOME and added the java home to the end of PATH. I can start and stop the weblogic server at middleware home C:\Oracle\middleware_oraforms.

First, there is no need to relocate the system jdk. Part of your problem is more likely the result of a known limitation which is caused by the System PATH and/or CLASSPATH containing special characters like the parenthesis in (x86). So, do the following:
Before you start, be sure that your machine has a static IP address. If it does not, you will need to install the Windows loopback adapter. Read the Installation Guide and System Requirements for more details.
1. Clean up from your failed installation attempts. Be sure to also remove the C:\bea folder assuming no other product is using WLS.
2. Uninstall the 64bit jdk then reinstall it where you prefer it. I would recommend its default location.
3. Open a Notepad session and leave it open as a holding place to paste the following information.
4. Open the System properties. Computer > right mouse click > Properties > Advanced System Properties > Environment Variables
5. Locate PATH in the system variables and cut all of the values to the clipboard and paste them in the Notepad session you just opened above. Save this information for later.
6. In the PATH value, set it to the following, be sure that the path to the jdk is correct for your installation:
<blockquote>%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_37\bin</blockquote>
7. You will need the "generic" WLS download if you plan to run 64bit. This will be a jar file rather than an exe. Assuming you are using WLS 10.3.6, open a DOS window and start the installer as follows:
<blockquote>java -jar C:\PathToJar\wls1036_generic.jar</blockquote>
After you have completed the WLS installation and the FMw installation and configuration, you can reset your PATH back to the way you desire.

Need help for Oracle forms 10.1.2
Hi , I have installed oracle form 10g application in one of my linux box ( 64 bit) , After bringing up the servers , the system-linux box is getting rebooted automatically . Please help as the Everytime the servers are going down along with the machine.
My shop uses that version of Forms. 64 bit Linux gave us so much trouble we installed 32 bit Linux on the 64 bit hardware.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a 32 bit version of the oracle software so 64 bit Linux does not give you anything.
Best Regards

Hi All
Can someone please help me, I have Oracle Forms version 6i R2 installed on a Windows XP 32 bit machine, currently this is how it is: Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.8.0
I would like to patch up to: Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.20.1
Can someone please point me to the right direction on how to search for this using Metalink. Basically I just need the patch number.
Any kind of help will be much appreciated.
ThanksIf not the developer but the 6i client/server runtime only (which is free) you need, I have a bzip2 file for Linux and Sparc Solaris (sorry no Windows version), that includes the patchset 18 and the 10gR2 instant client's sqlplus (for xquery support). It is a tar.bz2 file and around 250mb - anyone wants it, I can put it into their ftp site - sorry no gets ;) Again, this is for client/server runtime only - no web stuff or development modules, documents, etc. It is a lean/mean client/server custom runtime environment for 6i Forms on Linux and Sparc clients. It has been tested (for years) against 8.1.7.4, 9i (first, second editions) and 10g (R1, R2 and XE) - it is for 32 bit but also runs under 64 bit (it includes missing linux/sparc libraries from 32bit). I offered this to Oracle folks years ago to be distributed from OTN but they said, they can not officially support it, therefore can not be distributed via OTN - which makes sense.

Oracle forms 10g (win Xp middle tier IE 8 Win 7- IE 8 client)
forms services 10.1.2.0.2
Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
Hi
I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

# This section defines the Default settings. Any of them may be overridden in the

# The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,

lookAndFeel=oracleYou have a mixture of problems here.
1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
In short, my recommendation would be the following:
o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

Win XP + Oracle Forms/Reports 6i
Hello,
I am having issues with Oracle Forms/Reports 6i with Windows XP.
I have session issues as well as printing reports problems.
I have heard that Windows XP is not a certificed operating system with Oracle Forms/Reports 6i. Can anyone confirm this to me ?
Regards,
PT
PS: I heard that there is a Patch issued by Oracle (Patch 11 ???) that might resolve these kind or problems (???)Paolo,
Patch 13 is the XP patch. However, if you install the most recent patch, then this includes patch 13.

Problem of Installation of Oracle Forms & Reports Release 6i in Win XP Pro
I can install Oracle Forms and Reports Release 6i in a P4 WinXP machine by using different Oracle Home. But the Net8 Easy Config cannot be run. This can be solved by editing the file TNSNAMES.ORA manually to configurate the connection. After that, the forms is workable but when I print the report, the report background engine show the error for printing.
I am still asking for whether any patch files or update can be downloaded to fix the installation problem of Oracle Forms and Report 6i in WinXP Pro.I don't have the 651, but the 865. The 865 came with a Mega disc and required installing the Intel drivers from the disc. Since the 865 is driven primarly by USB, windows would attempt to assign a driver to motherboard and devices, but would inevitably be wrong. Only by installing the Intel drivers were things found properly.
Is there any chance there are such drivers with the 651 as well? -
Oracle Forms 6.0: Message file\ORANT\DBS\FMCUS.MSB not found
Hi,
I have a PC with oracle forms installed on it and recently the operating system was updated from win. 2000 to win. XP. After the update, a particular form could not run. It gave the following message: Message file\ORANT\DBS\FMCUS.MSB not found. What could be the likely course of this?Hi,
That's because Forms6i has a 2nd edition for WinXP and you should apply patchset 13 at least for forms to work on WinXP.
what's your forms version?????
I don't know how would it react fors6i on upgraded OS from win2K to WinXP.

Dear Oracles,
I am facing problems while installing Oracle Forms 11g
I read many documentations - and follow many pages during installing - but the same error appears every time
I installed Oracle Web Logic Server wls1035_generic.jar perfectly, and then create a web logic domain through Fusion Middleware config wizard
and test the web server through
http://localhost:7001/console
http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/8558/consoleto.jpg
and then installed Oracle Forms and Reports 11g R2 using ofm_frmrpts_win_11.1.2.0.0_32 3 - Disks
I chose Install S/w only - it was installed successfully
then I opened Configure Classic instance and follow wizard
It stopped at creating domain
every time i try it.

]]In addition to Craig's feedback consider the following:
If you did not read the system requirements and installation guide, you likely will have problems.
http://docs.oracle.com/html/E25460_01/r2_fr_requirements.htm
<blockquote>1. Does your machine have a static IP address and/or the Windows Loopback adapter installed and configured?
2. You indicated that you have 2gig of RAM. This is the minimum requirement just to install the product. It is very unlikely that you will be able to comfortably use the product with 2gig of RAM. Likely the performance will be so slow that processes will timeout before they can successfully start. You can actually see this occurring already - look carefully at the log info you posted.
Further, if you are also attempting to run an 11g database on the same machine, this will never happen. Having only 2gig of RAM will never support running the DB and the components of FMw, and the Operating System.</blockquote> -

It looks Oracle Form/Applet die hard versus J2EE Servlet/JSP/JSF & AJAX
I left the form forum for a while and am busy with transfering our Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application (just because the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control.). After a year or so on J2EE which I enjoyed the fresh OO coding while keep enhancing Oracle webform app in production, I have some thought on Applet vs J2EE JSP/JSF plus AJAX.
1) JSP itself is hard to avoid the full screen refreshing even though user just does partial changes ,e.g., lists, on the screen, it has to use AJAX to do the tricks. While partial refreshing in applet is natural default behavior.
2) Forms is really an RAD, while J2EE's IDEs does help a bit(IBM's Websphere v6 even called iRAD) which takes way longer programming time compared to Forms. One IBM's article says it trys to win the Oracle Forms developers by giving the familiar graphical way of drag/drop GUI, so IBM recognizes the RAD coding power of Oracle Forms. So, IBM promotes the RAD similar to Oracle Forms.
3) GUI/business rules related validation: Applet offered a great advantage over JSP/ even JSF which to avoid the full screen refresh, AJAX/JavaScript is used heavily. User friendly interaction of applet is way better than J2EE.
4) Browser's back/refresh buttons also are headache to J2EE, expecially we need to support IE and Firefox. Applet basically is not bothered by these buttons.
Recently, I read techi news said that the new chips will make the network transfer speed 10 time faster than now-even the cell phone transfer the image will be way faster. Then I predict the applet, just like IBM's mainframe, will see its Spring again, not like now in its winter. Especially the Oracle Forms makes coding easier than pure applet coding.
Oracle folks, kepp beefing up the Oracle Forms, don't just pay attention to JDev. J2EE IDE, most of all, remove the Oracle EE ASxx block, be open. Oracle EE ASxx is really not a pretty baby, even though so Oracle thinks it is.1) Why we are transfering your Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application?
Since our corporate is IBM world-DB2/UDB, WebSphere AS (WAS) etc. It only allows Oracle Forms/reports servers to be compatible with the infrastructure. It does not allow to purchase another EE app server(espeically LDAP). We could not upgrade our forms/reports6i to 9i or 10g.
2.Therefore the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control because I did my best to talk to Oracle sales, but no avail. I am glad that I got a good chance to beef up my J2EE Struts skills.
If extract out the forms/report9i/10g engines from the Oracle EE AS 9i/10g, (don't attempt to bundle sell the EE AS to customers-regardless of the shrinked 9.0.4 forms/reports services version, it's still another EE AS) and make them compatible with other ASs(espcially the LDAP), then Oracle Forms will have more customers. -

Problems validating GL CS pages using W3C HTML Validator
I've tried validating a number of pages and they come up with approx. 30 errors and I think all of them are coming from the disjointed rollovers in the navigation. How do I get the page/pages to validate. Any help would be great. jodmcc49
