Oracle Forms is a useless and pointless product.
Hi to everyone,
This is a rant on the stupidity of Oracle Forms. From my point of view, it is pointless and VERY PAINFUL to develop.
Come on, who in the right would use Oracle FORMS to develop database applications? Heck, I can develop my very own web application in Servlet and JSP twice as quick as this piece of crappy framework can produce. Who are you trying to kid? Tie down PL/SQL to the application level? The very idea of FORMS is bullshit.
To whoever who is reading this, please flame me all you want. Oracle Forms is a crappy product. Dont't waste your time and efforts using it. You are better off using some other MORE PRODUCTIVE framework. So there.

How can I open a url in oracle form 9i without toolbar and menubar
I want to create a button in my form. When I click on the button it should open url without toolbar and menubar.
I tried with web.show_document. but I am not able to remove the toolbar and menubar. plus not able to specify width and height. Any way to achieve this.
Thanks,
MansoorDear Frank,
I have done as follows
created a form with a button, and in my button pressed event I wrote
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('javascript:openMyURL("http://192.168.1.34/HELP/ADMF0005.html");', '_Self');
and in my formsweb.cfg I have the following
HTMLbeforeForm=<script> function OpenMyURL(page){window.open(page,"myURL","width=700,width=400,top=0,left=0,toolbar=no,menubar=no"); } </script>
When I click on the button it is coming with toolbar , etc as well as no page found is coming with the following in the address bar.
javascript:openMyURL("http://192.168.1.34/HELP/ADMF0005.html");
My html view source comes as below for the form

Oracle forms 10g,multiple insert and update problem
Hi,
I have tabular form(4 records displayed) with one datablock(based on a view).
After querying the form could not update all the records but only first record value can select from LOV.
I called a procedure in in-insert and on-update
The query is lik this
PACKAGE BODY MAPPING IS
PROCEDURE INSERT_ROW(EVENT_NAME IN VARCHAR2)
IS
BEGIN
IF (EVENT_NAME = 'ON-INSERT') THEN
INSERT INTO XX_REC_MAPPING
(BRANCH_CODE,COLLECTION_ID,PAY_MODE_ID,RECEIPT_METHOD,CREATED_BY,
CREATION_DATE,LAST_UPDATED_BY,LAST_UPDATE_DATE,LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN)
VALUES
( :XX_REC_MAPPING.OFFICE_CODE,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.COLLECTION_ID,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.PAY_MODE_ID,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.RECEIPT_METHOD,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.CREATED_BY,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.CREATION_DATE,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATED_BY,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATE_DATE,
:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN);
ELSIF (EVENT_NAME = 'ON-UPDATE') THEN
UPDATE XX_REC_MAPPING
SET BRANCH_CODE=:XX_REC_MAPPING.OFFICE_CODE,
COLLECTION_ID=:XX_REC_MAPPING.COLLECTION_ID,
PAY_MODE_ID=:XX_REC_MAPPING.PAY_MODE_ID,
RECEIPT_METHOD=:XX_REC_MAPPING.RECEIPT_METHOD,
LAST_UPDATED_BY=:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATED_BY,
LAST_UPDATE_DATE=:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATE_DATE,
LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN=:XX_REC_MAPPING.LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN
WHERE ROWID=:XX_REC_MAPPING.ROW_ID;
END IF;
END INSERT_ROW;
END MAPPING;
Whether the table gets looked or sholud i use some other trigger or loops ?
someone suggest me how to edit this query for multiple update.
Thanks
sat33I called a procedure in in-insert and on-updateWhy are you writing this code in the first place? If you have a block based on an updatable view, just let Forms do the inserts and updates.
If it's not an updatable view, use instead of triggers on the view.
See this current thread too:
INSTEAD of Trigger View for an Oracle EBS New form development -

I have made many form using oracle internet developer suit 10g R2, all are working fine. few days ago developed one form and deployed on the application server 10g R2, while calling from the menu no response and no error and after calling this form no other form is calling. it works 2-3 days initially after that it happens . How long is Oracle Forms/Developer Suite to be supported?
Hi.
I'm just curious how long Oracle are committed to supporting or creating new versions of Oracle Forms Developer / Developer Suite. I've heard, from one or two sources, that the intention is to abandon forms, and move the focus completely to Jdeveloper some time soon...
Is this true? does anyone know anything different?Here we are again whith that question...
I'm a senior forms developer (and to make a little humour i've just recently learned designer...)
I think the confusion comes also from "J2EE Application Development for Forms and Designer Developers" which can make us thinking oracle is pushing up to J2EE and prepare us for the Dead of Forms RIP ...
And also that forms developer like me are a little bit afraid because they probably have no skills in J2EE.
But for me it is clear now.
There is no reason to migrate Forms to J2EE with whatelse tool can be sell to you.
I tried some demos in the past with such tools and it makes me laugh, converting a simple master detail forms dept/emp.
What can such tools make with very complex forms and logic ?
But the question is if I had to create a new application will i still do it with Forms ?
And the answer (for me) is no, especially when I see what the next Jdeveloper 11g will be able to do (I tried the fusion order demo and i was really impressed)
You say "I've invested so much time in learning, and becoming proficient at Oracle Forms..."
And so did I but I bought the book "Oracle JDeveloper 10g for Forms and PL/SQL Developers" and I study it page after page to enter the ADF world and upgrade my knowledge.
So Forms or J2EE it is your choice and i will not post the link to the SOD (francois did it) but Forms can also live in a SOA world http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10gR2/forms-soa-wp.pdf
but we, forms developers, we must not only focus on forms and its death, but also go ahead and invest so much time we did to learn forms in learning J2EE, BPEL and etc etc.
Hope this can help
Jean-Yves
ps : relating to older post, forms was dead each time a new version of the appServer was comming :o) -

Hope you can help me.

eRieIt worked for me in Windows 7 Home premium, both in 32 and 64 bit operating systems...
What I did was,
After successful instalaltion of developer suite, I've installed latest JRE from www.java.com and configured formsweb.cfg and default.env file.
I've used IE8 only. I haven't tested on any other browsers.
Do modify these lines to configure formsweb.cfg to change to JRE from Jinitiator (As said by CraigB )

About any free edition of oracle forms
hi all,
is there any release of oracle forms which i can use for production purposes ? 6i for example or earlier ?
thanksJust visit the link I gave you, and click the things together which you'd need; as far as forms goes the minimum on licenses would be 10 named users. As far as the memory consumption goes: this is not up to you; the type of the installation will decide for you how much ressources you'd need. As for the Forms 11g installation that would mean 3 instances of weblogic which would consume from 512MB to 1GB Memory each; no matter if you run 1 or 10 forms runtimes. The configuration might be suitable for big installation, but as previously said with smaller installation a total overkill. And in your one-session scenario I'd even consider it a no-go.
So for a single user application I'd definitely not use Forms, and as far as the database goes I'd depend that on the amount of data you want to collect / analyze. There are other databases available; a lot of them are free. Oracle XE is one of them:
Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2</title><meta name="Title" content="Oracle Database…
but then you'd need to decide for yourself if even a XE installation would be an overkill for a Single User application.

Oracle Forms 6.0: Message file\ORANT\DBS\FMCUS.MSB not found
Hi,
I have a PC with oracle forms installed on it and recently the operating system was updated from win. 2000 to win. XP. After the update, a particular form could not run. It gave the following message: Message file\ORANT\DBS\FMCUS.MSB not found. What could be the likely course of this?Hi,
That's because Forms6i has a 2nd edition for WinXP and you should apply patchset 13 at least for forms to work on WinXP.
what's your forms version?????
I don't know how would it react fors6i on upgraded OS from win2K to WinXP.

Calling a Web service from Oracle Forms....
Hi ,
I 've tried to follow the steps described in the link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_10g/deploy/callws_fromforms/forms_webservice.htm
which uses : a)JDeveloper 9.04 and b)Oracle Forms 9.0.4.
However , i have installed Oracle Forms 10.1.2 and JDeveloper 10.1.2. (Developer Suite 10.1.2.).
The problem is that in JDeveloper 10.1.2. the type of applications and menus and properties and.... have changed and i cannot finish the tutorial!!!!!
Is there any document/example showing how to create a web service in JDeveloper and call it form Oracle Forms....?????
NOTE: I have also installed JDeveloper 10.1.3...
Many thanks ,
SimonCheck the JDeveloper tutorials page on OTN (linked from the JDeveloper home page) and you'll find a tutorial on creating a web service.
The steps to invoke it from Forms should be the same.
googling on Oracle Forms web services will bring a few more samples. -
Validations in Oracle Forms 6i
Hi,
Can anybody please let me know how do we use phone and email validators in Oracle Forms 6i for textitem.
and what is the format for phone and email and how do we create.hi
you can validate the format of an email in the WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger
by using a function stored in the db that checks if the format of the email is correct
for example :
FUNCTION is_valid_email(i_email IN VARCHAR2) RETURN BOOLEAN
IS
v_dummy NUMBER := 0;
BEGIN
SELECT 1 INTO v_dummy
FROM dual
WHERE regexp_like(i_email,'^[_a-zA-Z0-9-]+(\.[_a-zA-Z0-9-]+)*@[a-zA-Z0-9-]+(\.[a-zA-Z0-9-]+)*(\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4})$');
RETURN TRUE;
EXCEPTION
WHEN no_data_found THEN
RETURN FALSE;
WHEN others THEN
RETURN FALSE;
END is_valid_email;
you can also use regexp for the validation of a tel number
I hope that helps you.

Decimal Point Validation in Oracle Forms 6i
One of my table has a column named interest. Data type of this column is number (4,1) so it can hold 99.9 and 100 both.
If user enters 9.99, oracle form accepts the values and rounds it to 10. When scale defined for this data type is 1 so user shouldnât be allowed entering 2 digits after decimal.
I would like oracle to give error stating that user can enter upto 1 decimal place only so 9.99 is invalid input. Is there any function in oracle form (D2k)that let you know how many digits user has entered after decimal?
Is there any function in oracle form (D2k) that let you know the length of input ?Hi
Why don't u use Format mask property for the same,so it will not allow user for wrong i/p
alternatively use forms message to display pop-up .
